  2. The Andallan Broadcasting Network, or simply ABN, is the largest commercial broadcast television and radio network in Andalla. Its main office is located at the ABN Broadcasting Center at Erik S. Dahlsen Avenue (ESDA) corner Olsen Avenue while its primary transmitter, the Millennium Tower, is located in Haugvange. The ABN broadcasts primarily through its flagship television channel DSEA-TV (better known as Commonwealth TV or CTV), as well as through its flagship AM radio station DZMB-AM (Radio Andska 630). The ABN is best-known for its nationwide evening news program, Andalla Today, and its noontime variety program, Middandska, both of which are simulcast on CTV and Radio Andska 630. ABN programs are also broadcast internationally with Andska TV, a subscription-based cable and satellite television channel with approximately 1.8 million subscribers worldwide. Andska TV is based in Porto Libertad, @Sunset Sea Islands, with major offices located in other countries with a significant Andallan diaspora. The ABN maintains an online presence through its main website, abn.com. AT Online (news.at.net), a standalone news website affiliated with Andalla Today, serves as the ABN's primary news outlet alongside Andalla Today.
  3. [ OOC topic // IIWiki page ] The Thalassan War Tiauhai Sea 5°42'43"N 119°26'46"W 18 November 1941 0750 hrs It was a calm November morning. Gentle waves lapped against the cold, gray hull of the Giokton Type 3A-class submarine C-23; her blunt bow cutting silently and steadily through the surface of the Tiauhai Sea. A soft sea breeze blew against the cheeks of five men perched atop the bridge, nonchalantly keeping watch over the seemingly endless void of blue water that surrounded them on three sides. Behind them lay the western coast of Giokto; the faint shadow of mountains and dense forests looming in the distance. The land grew smaller and smaller until it had completely disappeared beyond the horizon. There was no turning back. C-23 was part of a flotilla of six submarines deployed from the naval base in Chiongto, all tasked with one single, specific objective—to eliminate any Andallan troop transport steaming east, towards Giokto. The top-secret operation was ordered by an emergency meeting of Giokto's highest military officials, only days after Giokton moles in the Andallan Commonwealth Army uncovered plans to deploy the 14,000-strong 1st Infantry Division to reinforce Liamchia—a Giokton province under Andallan control. The meeting was presided by none other than the commander-in-chief of the Giokton military—High Leader Tseng Ho-soa (曾賀山)—with State Minister Li Siong-lan (李翔蘭) present. Tseng was, needless to say, a crazy man. Having served as High Leader since 1931, he had abolished term limits in 1939 and was known for his cult of personality. Luckily for him, he had many cronies and supporters in all ranks of government—a result of political decay in a democratically-structured but highly-flawed administration. As the top-secret meeting took place, the SS Theo Antonsen steamed past the breakwaters surrounding the Ålsstrand Naval Base—the headquarters of the Andallan Commonwealth Navy. Soldiers lined the upper decks of the merchant-turned-troop transport, waving to passing fishing boats and enjoying a panoramic view of the entire Arkhavn Bay. "Ever seen this kind of a view before?" said a young soldier in his mid-20's, to the one beside him. "Many times, yes," said the other one. "I've been places. I've been to Liamchia, too, twice." "Oh? How is it there?" "Not bad. Kaohen somewhat resembles old Møllerup, if you've been up north. But that was 8 years ago, when I went there. Definitely much better by now." The Theo Antonsen was bound for Kaohen, a large port city on the coast of Liamchia. Aboard were 1,629 soldiers and their equipment from the 8th and 9th Infantry Battalions, as well as 683 crew. Displacing 11,000 tons and measuring 135 meters from bow to stern, she was among the largest active auxiliary vessels of the Andallan Commonwealth Navy. Built in 1929 by Albertsen Skipsverft A/S in Skager, she plied Arkhavn-Argis routes as an ocean liner before being acquired by the Navy in 1938. "Contact, eleven-o'clock, bearing three-two-zero. It's flying Andallan colors." "Good! We've found our target. Prepare the boat for dive." Captain Hong Hsu-eng's order rang throughout the boat. In seconds, the bridge was cleared—Hong himself sealing the hatch shut. Officers and crew gathered around the captain as he unraveled a rolled-up sea chart on a table. At the same time, an operator sat at the controls of a small panel with several red and green bulbs. One by one, the red bulbs turned green as Captain Hong lifted his head towards the board and waited expectantly. This was the "hull opening indicator panel", a small board that indicated which hull openings were open or closed; the crew had to secure all openings shut before the boat could commence its dive. At last, the final red light turned green. "Full green, Captain." Hong nodded in acknowledgement. "Bow planes, five degrees down. Begin dive." The final countdown had begun. As C-23's sail slipped below the waves, it was only a matter of minutes before her potent weapons could be unleashed. "Forward room! Ready tubes one, two, three. Depth zero-five feet." "One and two ready," came the voice from the telephone, which was lying on the map table as the captain made his final computations. "All tubes ready." "Aye. Ready tube one, and... fire!" The faint sound of the torpedo's engine whirring to life was barely audible from the control room. "Tube two... fire! Tube three, standby... and, fire!" "Torpedoes in the water." Leaving a visible white streak along the water above them, the three torpedoes zoomed towards the Theo Antonsen at 55 knots. In seconds, a warrant officer on the bridge had spotted them. "Torpedoes on the starboard! Approaching fast!" An ear-piercing scream rang from within. "Haaaaaaard to port!" Immediately, the Theo Antonsen made a sharp, abrupt turn to the left. An old ocean liner wasn't the most maneuverable of seagoing vessels, however the sudden list was enough to catch several men off-balance. It was just enough for the first torpedo to miss the ship's bow by several meters. Seconds later, at exactly 0832 hrs, the second torpedo fired from the C-23 scores the first hit on the doomed vessel, detonating right off the bow and creating a sizable hole in the forward cargo hold. The cargo hold began to fill with seawater as the ensuing fires quickly licked up crates of supplies. Yet before any action could be taken, the third torpedo rips through her amidships where the bulk of the passengers' quarters were located—instantly killing anyone who happened to be in their cabins at that time. Flames continued to engulf the forward cargo hold, threatening to spread to the upper decks, as the hull continued to fill with seawater. Damage control teams are sent to quell the worsening fire in the cargo hold—the breach amidships left almost unattended—as the Theo Antonsen began to list 15 degrees to the starboard. At 0835 hrs, an explosion rocks the forward section of the vessel; the fires had reached the ammunition stores for the soldier's firearms. Meanwhile, the situation amidships continued to worsen as the hole enlarged due to water pressure buckling the hull. The Theo Antonsen's list slowly increased to 20 degrees, threatening to capsize the vessel. The call to abandon ship is made at 0838 hrs—a mere 6 minutes after first impact—as seawater slowly crept up the foremost section of the bow. The upper decks, already a chaotic mess, began to flood with men waiting for life rafts; others opting to jump off the ship instead. As a result, several crewmembers are ordered to throw as many large buoyant items into the sea as possible, in order to provide the men with something to hold on to. With a lack of buoyant items save for several pieces of light furniture, the men aboard quickly resort to chopping off doors, windows and wooden panels lining the deck. At 0844 hrs, a loud, eerie creaking noise resonates from below decks, as the Theo Antonnen's list increases to 30 degrees. Seconds later, a second noise is heard, followed by a large crack running up to the starboard side of the deck amidships. With the davits rendered inoperable due to the sheer number of men crowding the decks, the situation grows hopeless as the few remaining lifeboats and life rafts are thrown overboard instead, forcing the men to jump as well. Suddenly, at 0849 hrs, the Theo Antonsen capsizes, trapping hundreds of soldiers and crew below decks. Those on the upper decks tumble along with the ship, killing several men on the starboard side as the force of impact with the seawater slams them against the wall behind them. The vessel remained afloat for a few moments, her keel exposed, and slowly began to sink again. By 0853 hrs—21 minutes after first impact—the last of the Theo Antonsen fades beneath the waves, taking over 800 lives with her. Minutes before the SS Theo Antonsen capsized, the vessel's wireless telegraph operator—young 23 year-old Kjetil Frandsen—had managed to send a single, desperate distress call on the 500 kHz emergency frequency. Luckily, it was picked up by the AMS Bodalf Hjalmarsson, an Arngrim-class destroyer which was about 6 hours out. SOS SOS SOS SOS SOS ATQH ATQH ATQH ATQH MARINESKIP. TORPEDERET TO GANGER PA HOJ HAV. In a snap of a finger, the 3rd Infantry Regiment had lost nearly a third of its manpower. Early the next day, 19th November 1941, saw the Landstinget—the Andallan parliament—convene in an emergency joint session for an address by President Hakon Carlsen Thus the Thalassan War begins.

    Flight 371

F L I G H T 3 7 1 "Papa, kha-kin neh!" (hurry up) "Yes, yes, almost done." "But, papa, ah-peh (uncle) can't be late." "I know, I know, just hold on a bit, Jans." For the fifth time, young Jans took a glance at the clock. It was eight minutes past one, the morning of November 30th. He turned around and looked out the window to check if the car was still there. The Esé patiently waited; its headlights illuminating the cold, lonely midnight street. Two women stood outside talking — Jans' mother Anna, and her sister Ashley. Even from inside the house, he could hear the low hum of the Gordo's engine. Nothing made a sound in this corner of Arkhavn; Sønderlev was a peaceful neighborhood. Located only two blocks away from the country's financial center, Sønderlev was a "village for the privileged" as commoners would say. And privileged his family was — his father, Robert Cheng, had worked 18 years at Alfaland, serving as COO for six years and sitting on the Board for five. And if being a senior official for one of Andalla's most prominent real estate companies was not enough, Robert Cheng also served as a non-exec and major shareholder in several other corporations. Now retired, his humble father sought to make more time for his family as opposed to the hectic schedule of a wealthy aristocrat; he now ran a small café chain with Anna. Their main branch was built on an empty lot right next to Jans' school, which was a ten-minute walk away through the quiet streets of Sønderlev. . . . "Here, help me close this luggage and bring it out so you and Mama can load it in. I'll double-check the house if we left anything." "OK, but don't take too long, alright Papa?" "Of course, Jans." Robert was not a man of many servants. Born to a middle-class Giokton family, he had to slowly work himself up the corporate ladder; a gruesome experience from beginning to end. Throughout his career he had learned courage and independence, two important values that sustained him even until the present. It was for this reason that he did not hire any nanny or chauffeur — everything was done by the family themselves. Outside, Jans had just finished loading the last luggage into the compartment. Anna was pleased to see her little boy doing so much work; now he was really growing up. Turning ten in two days was no small matter. Jans was off on a week-long semestral break, and they were going abroad to celebrate. "Now, Jans, get in the car. Ah-peh has a surprise for you. I'll just go back and help Papa fix everything." "You'll be done soon, right Mama?" "Depends if we have lots of things to fix. Don't worry, we won't take long." Anna disappeared back into the house. Robert was arranging all the things, unplugging any electrical appliances. Anna ran through the bedrooms, making sure nothing was left behind. One could never be so sure. One by one, Anna switched off the lights and closed all the windows in each room. She took one last glance into Jans' small bedroom, which was adjacent to theirs. He had been sleeping alone since the age of eight, which was rather impressive. He was really a mature little boy, much to the delight of his parents and everybody around him. Anna smiled to herself and flicked the switch. She could've sworn that she had seen something sparkling in the moonlight. It was very small anyways, and after all, she was too happy to care. A moment later, Jans' parents emerged from the house. Keys in hand, Robert began to secure each of the door's three locks. As they walked to the car, Jans gladly opened the door from inside. "Say your last goodbyes to the house, Jans. You won't be seeing it for a week." A week. OOC: I know this is something rather unexpected, but be assured it won't actually have much effect on the world's current situation (As of the time of its conception). It's all for your reading pleasure. Enjoy! 😉
  5. The Oriental Meteorological, Atmospherical and Hydrological Administration, abbreviated as OMAHA, is a joint meteorological organization between several nations in the vicinity of the Oriental Ocean. Formally established on 28 August 2017 in Waipahu, @Kualoa, founding members included Kualoa, @Andalla, and the @Sunset Sea Islands. OMAHA was established to provide its member states with a quick and reliable source for weather reports, usually regarding tropical cyclones. Though OMAHA does not hold national status within any nation, it represents a partnership between the national meteorological agencies of its member states, and is recognized as the foremost authority on weather information within the vicinity of the Thalassan and Southern Oriental Oceans. OMAHA officially monitors tropical cyclones and weather disturbances that occur within an area of nearly 60 million square kilometers, bound by the following coordinates: 45°S 105°E 20°S 105°E 20°S 150°E 20°N 180°W 20°N 120°W 20°S 120°W 20°S 180°E 45°S 180°E TROPICAL DEPRESSION, ten-minute sustained winds of up to 63 km/h (34 knots) TROPICAL STORM, ten-minute sustained winds of 63-88 km/h (34-48 knots) SEVERE TROPICAL STORM, ten-minute sustained winds of 89-118 km/h (48-64 knots) TYPHOON, ten-minute sustained winds of 118-220 km/h (64-119 knots) SUPER TYPHOON, ten-minute sustained winds of 220 km/h (119 knots) and up.
  6. The calendar read 5 July 1948, Monday. It had been a year since the Thalassan War had ended, when the Gioktons had surrendered and the @Sunset Sea Islands liberated from its oppressive leadership. It was a bloody war that saw the deaths of millions — military and civilian alike. It was not unusual that the Commonwealth had not yet recovered; yet despite this, the economy was, as a matter of fact, growing. People were looking for new ideas. And where else could they find new ideas other than Europa, the political, ideological, cultural, economical and technological center of the world? The opportunities were very promising. Yet despite all the possibilities, though, Europa was undeniably far — a trip across to Europa by sea could take up to three weeks, and in an increasingly competitive and fast-paced world, time was of the essence. People had to get there quicker, cheaper, and more efficiently. A few years back, while Thalassa was still caught within the tight grip of the menace it had created itself, the Skandinavisk SK-2 had begun production. At that time, Andalla was too preoccupied to even take notice its new creation, the same creation that would soon carry thousands of passengers across Argis and Europa each week — all in the name of Andalla. The SK-2 was a ground-based aircraft, which at the time was not as attractive as the large, powerful flying boats of Saeb. What it did have to boast about, however, was its impressive range - over 6,000 kilometers. And as it was a land-based aircraft, it could reach important inland cities such as Toledo, O'polis, Saipuo, Moskovo, New Halsham, Girk, Bogd Gioro, Delta, Novumcastrum, and Centridge City. It had the power to end the era of flying boats, yet nobody bothered to take notice... except the airlines. One could never really explain properly what was going on with airlines during the war. While there were those who wanted to flee the violence, others chose to stay. Their trained employees were drafted into the military, leaving many positions empty — some airlines choosing to temporarily fill these positions with untrained workers, or leaving them unoccupied altogether for the sake of safety. Mismanagement and inexperience quickly became one of the leading causes of incidents and accidents of Andallan carriers during the war. There also loomed in the air the threat of Giokton fighters; they would often harass or even shoot down the defenselss airliner upon discovering it during a routine patrol. It was for this reason that airline passengers were required to wear oxygen masks for the entire duration of the flight above the Tiauhai Sea, in the event of a rapid pressure loss. Patched-up bullet holes on the wings, tail and fuselage became a common sight on Andallan airliners, if the aircraft had not already been downed. But as the war went on and Giokton air force numbers slowly dwindled, more airlines became confident to resume operations, while a handful of airlines had also been founded in hopes of exploiting a new-found source of profit. And when they finally had the chance to begin operating their shiny new SK-2s, they put them to work as soon as possible. This was the "Northern Route", one of the most heavily-traveled air routes during the late 1940's to the mid-1960's. It ran from Andalla to Central Europa or @Orioni, with stops at @Iverica, @Prymont (Ostport), Deltannia and finally to wherever in Europa the passenger was destined for. It remained that way until 1964, when the transoriental-capable SK-3 Series 20 jet airliner entered service. It was also in the same year that the airport at Burkini opened; situated near-perfectly in the middle of the Oriental Ocean, the new airport allowed a transoriental crossing to be done in two 4,000-kilometer legs. But for now, the Northern Route was their only choice. Airlines could make it through in under 5 days, with many competing against each other for the fastest passage. But for passengers, it was heaven. Their wildest dreams had come true; no longer would they have to take 3 weeks by ocean liner just to reach Europa. Weeks became days, ships became planes, and seas became skies. From the corner of his window, Daniel Arvesson could see another SK-2 take off. This one belonged to Østhav Lufttransport, one of the several airlines created solely on the hopes of exploiting this new Silk Road. To him, these airlines were naive and ignorant. It took more than just a startup to be able to travel the Northern Route, because flying was expensive, not only for the passengers but even for the airline itself. In a way, every country charged flyover fees — that is, if they even allowed foreign aircraft to pass through. And though Andalla had been able to at least negotiate discounted fees with Iverica, Ostport and Deltannia, aircraft had to land. And once they were on the ground, airport fees entered the question. Combined with several other fees, taxes and administrative issues made operating an airline an extremely difficult task — one that could drive these "start-up airlines" into bankruptcy within a mere few years. It was a disaster. And somehow, it was Arvesson's duty to fix it. In the background, Arvesson heard the faint sound of a phone's sharp ring. His secretary, Miriam Byessen, came in the office. "Sir, Minister Holme's on the phone. He wants to speak to you." "Why didn't he call me in my office..? Ah, never mind, hold on." ... "Director-General, you have been reading the news regarding our Northern Route, have you?" "Ah, yes, of course Minister Holme. Daily." "Then, surely, you have heard of what happened in Delta?" "Definitely, Minister. I believe we must act on it as soon as possible." "Exactly. And what would you propose in order to fix it?" "Perhaps a bilateral agreement standardizing aviation regulations could help... But we may not be able to accomplish such a thing anytime soon." "Not at all, Director, that is possible. You may want to contact the Deltannian aviation authority... What was the name again? Uh... anyway. I was trying to say, you should contact them and arrange for a bilateral meeting setting the foundations for standardized regulations... I'll bet you they're just as willing as we are to standardize them, especially since the perpetrators only did it for the money. I'm sure we both know that Deltannia is an important stop on the Northern Route, and we can't afford to lose it... Am I understood, Director-General? "Yes, sir. I'll arrange a meeting as soon as possible." "Thank you." Arvesson wasn't amused; Minister Holme was crazy. It wasn't like Andalla and Deltannia could organize a bilateral meeting in a flash. But that was what Minister Holme wanted — Arvesson could not let him down, lest he lose his job as Director-General of the Andallan Aviation Authority. After all, the problem was quite significant — though it was a scandal by a small band of Deltannian airport officials, it did highlight an important flaw in their aviation regulations... Delta was, undoubtedly, the most important stop along the journey. Much like a busy bus terminal, it was where passengers would disembark and board another plane for wherever they wished to go. When one traveled the Northern Route, landing at Delta signified the final leg of the journey... and that the aircraft did not crash somewhere in the endless sea of ice surrounding it. Icing was definitely not uncommon when flying in the extreme cold of the Argic Circle. When ice crept up to the wings or vertical stabilizer, the pilot could lose control of the aircraft. When ice got into the engine, there would be nothing moving the aircraft forward. And when ice got into both, you'd know where exactly you were — in the middle of a frozen hell. A few days ago, several Deltannian airport officials found a difference between Andallan and Deltannian aviation regulations — one that could, if properly implemented, restrict the passage of any Andallan aircraft within Deltannian airspace. But they weren't going for the safety — instead they only increased flyover fees, airport fees and other taxes for all Andallan aircraft. And through their network of shady deals and accomplices, those extra fees went to... them. Once their plot became known, there was nothing the government could do — aviation regulations were aviation regulations, implemented only to ensure the safety of anyone flying within Deltannian airspace. So instead they halted the increase in taxes and prohibited any Andallan aircraft from entering or exiting Deltannian airspace, effectively grounding all Andallan aircraft in Deltannia, Ostport, and elsewhere in Europa. Being the most important stop along the Northern Route, the entire future of the Andallan airline industry was placed in jeopardy... — TO BE CONTINUED — This topic was formerly disputed by Vocenae. As a result, all mentions of Vocenae have been replaced with Deltannia. The discussion is located here. OOC: Prelude to the establishment of an ICAO for Europa. I believe @Gallambria and @Orioni is working on a version of the UN, so we could say this organization evolved into whatever ICAO's counterpart in the Europa UN is. A very special thanks to ORIONI for fixing some issues while I was away. Tak!
  7. @Iverica @Prymont @Derthalen @Astriedan @The Eurofuhrer @Girkmand @Sunset Sea Islands @Selayar @Little Flau @Variota @Cashar @Orioni @Afropa @Tagmatium Rules @Fleur de Lys @Cristina @Magnaeus @Gallambria (Phew, that has got to be the longest line of mentions this forum has seen!) Fellow mentioned test subjects comrades, allow me a few minutes. According to my foreign relations factbook, Andalla has retrospectively established foreign relations with your country. Do not worry, in most cases it's just a consulate in the capital, not an embassy. I'm just trying to be a friendly little hippie island guy and also to strengthen my foreign trade, as Andalla's economy is focused on exports. If you have any objections, kindly reply in this thread. I'm okay if you wish for foreign relations to be established in the present instead of retrospectively, but do note that would sort of mean you and I have not done much in the past. If you're friendly enough and wish to establish embassies (In most cases I'll accept), then just tell me here. Thanks! Lys, if you're okay with it then I am maintaining foreign relations with all your countries. Unless some of them are against you, then I won't keep them in the list.
  8. Skandinavisk Aircraft Manufacturing, officially Skandinavisk Flyindustri A/S, is an Andallan aerospace company that designs, manufactures and sells both civilian and military aircraft. Skandinavisk is the largest company in Andalla and among the largest in Thalassa by revenue, total assets, and employees. At the end of FY 2017, the company reported $43.568 billion in revenues, $72.133 billion in total assets, and nearly 86,000 employees worldwide—67,442 in Andalla and Giokto. Skandinavisk aircraft are delivered to customers across the world, with major final assembly plants located in Andalla, and @Limonaia. The company's international headquarters are located in the Skandinavisk Global Tower along Antonsen Avenue in downtown Arkhavn, with regional head offices in Nordhaven (Orioni), Toledo (Iverica), Limone (Limonaia) and Feerefaaierhafen (Variota). The company was founded on 2 September 1907 by Markus Olstad, along with the same group of engineers who built the first successful Andallan powered aircraft — the Olstad Flyer. Wilbert Vernesen, the first Andallan pilot on a powered aircraft, served as the company's chief pilot and trained several more to become the very first Andallan pilots. The first Skandinavisk-built aircraft was the Model 1, a small experimental biplane based off the Olstad Flyer. The company soon began producing general-purpose biplanes, the most popular of which were the "P-series" mailplanes. In the early 1920s, the company began to venture into larger commercial aircraft. Throughout the 1930s, focus was gradually shifted from general-purpose aircraft to the much larger airliners. Skandinavisk competed very closely with Saeb, which later ventured into flying boats to address the needs of the archipelago. However, as the popularity of flying boats began to diminish, Saeb ultimately lost its foothold in the large airliner market. Meanwhile, Skandinavisk had introduced the very successful "SK-series" airliners, cementing its position at the top of the Thalassan aerospace industry. The company entered the jet age after Saeb was forced to sell its jet fighter project due to the rapidly-falling demand for military equipment after the Thalassan War. Soon later, Skandinavisk entered the commercial jet age with the classic SK-3. It was at this time that Skandinavisk began to grow rapidly, producing several more jet airliners, all of which were successful. In the early 1980s, Skandinavisk formed a joint venture with Khiimori Aeronautics of @Fulgistan to develop and manufacture the SK-7. The SK-7 project was only beginning design studies at that time, and the newly-formed KAS Aerospace took over development. Along with KAS Aerospace, Skandinavisk remains one of the world's largest and most prominent civil aviation manufacturers. Skandinavisk Aircraft Manufacturing is subdivided into 5 major divisions: Skandinavisk Global, primary manufacturer of SK-series airliners; based in Finkenveder, Andalla, with a second final assembly plant in Tailam, Giokto. 9. The following is a list of prominent Andallan arms manufacturers. Until the 1950s, most of Andalla's arms manufacturing was controlled by the government. In 1949, the Arms Industry Privatization Act was ratified, granting more leeway for privately-owned arms manufacturers. The present Andallan arms industry is dominated by Skandinavisk, Faerfrisk Arms and Kungsborg Land Systems. SKANDINAVISK Skandinavisk Aircraft Manufacturing (Officially Skandinavisk Flygproducent A/S) is the largest manufacturer of aircraft in Andalla and the Andallan Commonwealth Air Force's primary supplier of both combat and transport aircraft. It was established by Anton Bergqvist Saeb in 1913 as Saeb Aeronautik (Saeb Aeronautics), following the early success of Skandinavisk. Bergqvist envisioned Saeb to become the leading aircraft manufacturer in Thalassa, producing primarily flying boats to serve the many Thalassan islands. Saeb soon became the dominant manufacturer of military aircraft in Andalla, supplying significant numbers of Commonwealth Army Air Command (Samväldet Haer Luftkommando) aircraft. In the civilian market, Saeb's flying boats competed very closely with Skandinavisk's landplanes; Saeb emerged as the larger manufacturer during the latter years of the 1920s. In 1936, Bergqvist began to venture into the production of military vehicles, developing the P.1 armored car and establishing Saeb Dynamik (Saeb Dynamics). It was followed by Saeb Armen (Saeb Arms) in 1939, which was highly successful and would continue on to produce most of the Andallan military's small arms. Saeb Aeronautik was highly successful during the Thalassan War, as demand for new military equipment hit a record high. As the Thalassan War came to a close, it was decided that Saeb would begin development of a civil aircraft. It was during this time that demand for military equipment continued to fall across the region, and among those largely affected included Saeb. Unable to continue development, Saeb Aeronautik was forced to sell its jet fighter project to Skandinavisk, which had expressed its desire to begin a combat aircraft program. In 1965, the Saeb Group was forced to sell Saeb Armen to rival Faerfrisk, cementing its position as the leading small arms manufacturer in Andalla. Today, Saeb Aeronautik continues to retain its prominence and is currently the second largest aircraft manufacturer in Andalla next to Skandinavisk. No longer having a foothold in the military aircraft market, Saeb Aeronautik mainly produces turboprop and regional jets for the Thalassan market. Saeb Dynamik continues to produce military vehicles in small numbers, with most of its business lost to Kungsborg Land Systems. FAERFRISK ARMS Faerfrisk Arms (Faerfrisk Armen A/S) is the primary manufacturer of small arms in Andalla, and one of the largest in Thalassa. It started out in 1939 as a factory producing bullets for the ACA, and later Saeb Arms. As demand rose, Faerfrisk (Then Faerfrisk Munitions or Faerfrisk Krigsmateriel A/S) began to produce parts for military vehicles. As demand for military equipment fell following the end of the Thalassan War, Faerfrisk entered into a period of stagnation and recovery; Faerfrisk's military vehicle business went into liquidation in 1953. With massive amounts of surplus arms available at cheap prices after the Thalassan War, it was decided that Faerfrisk would begin development of more advanced, more capable guns to be released when demand for the surplus arms fell. Following the rise of the assault rifle in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Faerfrisk enjoyed a period of success. In 1965, Faerfrisk purchased its largest rival, Saeb Armen, leaving it as the sole major small arms manufacturer in the country. KUNGSBORG LAND SYSTEMS Kungsborg Land Systems (Kungsborg Jordsystem A/S) is a subsidiary of Kungsborg Heavy Industries (Kungsborg Storindustrigren A/S) responsible for the production of military land vehicles including tanks, rocket artillery and trucks. Formerly Christensen Defense Engineering, a subsidiary of Christensen Automotive, Kungsborg Heavy Industries acquired the company in 1992. ASKANGER STEEL YARD Askanger Steel Yard (Askanger Stålvaerft A/S) is the largest Andallan shipbuilding company. Established in 1754 as the Royal Askanger Naval Dockyard (Kongeligen Askanger Flottvaerfter) and also encompassed the artillery factories surrounding it. After the kingdom was replaced with a Commonwealth in [YEAR], the Royal Askanger Naval Dockyard was renamed to the Askanger Steel Yard (Askanger Stålvaerft) and its surrounding factories were sold to the private sector. Since then, the Askanger Steel Yard has constructed many of the largest Andallan-made vessels. The company also operates several other shipyards on the island of Himøy. BOFORSEN Boforsen is a manufacturer of heavy machine guns and heavy weaponry including autocannons and naval guns. Among its well-known products include the 40 mm M36 anti-aircraft/multi-purpose gun, the 51 mm Mk.20 dual-purpose naval gun, and the Skytten 155 mm self-propelled gun. GRIPEN Gripen Artilerieselskab A/S is a manufacturer of heavy guns and artillery, including naval artillery, field artillery and tank guns. It has been the dominant manufacturer of naval guns in Andalla since the early 1800s. Its headquarters are located in Askanger, near the Askanger Steel Yard. The company was founded in 1788 after businessman Gjermund Hatlestad purchased one of the artillery factories in the Askanger Steel Yard. Though it was unsuccessful, Hatlestad acquired more factories with the money he was earning from his other businesses and eventually grew the company to become a major producer of naval artillery.
