Amnalos
The first international Cricket match, between Akiiryu and Tagmatium, finished today. It was held in the sunny coastal city of Ombroy and spectators regard it as one of the finest matches they have ever seen. Tagmatium won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting pitch. They got off to a good start, with Tiberius Jones in fine form. Jones and the big hitting Marcus Pertinax put on 105 for the fourth wicket. Jones scored the first international century, but soon afterwards Pertinax was well caught at 2nd slip for 85. The Tagmatine tail enders fell in rapid succession, and Jones was eventually out for 132. All out for 319. Rathu Kannaric picked up five wickets off his 27 overs. In contrast, the Akiiryan batsmen struggled badly in their first innings. From 2/68 they collapsed, losing five wickets for 20 runs. Two painful tail-end partnerships bumped the score to 123 when the last wicket fell. Gallus and Sicinius took four wickets apiece. Akiiryu avoided the follow-on by four runs. The Tagmatine second innings got off to a shaky start when Miller was out to Hanalii third ball. Wolaston followed soon afterwards and the score was 2/14. But Jones was again the hero, bludgeoning a quick 140. Unfortunately, Alerisus Peterson was the only other batsman to make a score with 37. Tagmatium's tail collapsed again to be all out for 216. Jorcu was the best of the bowlers, with three wickets including the prized scalp of Tiberius Jones. Akiiryu, chasing 413 with the better part of two days remaining, knew time was no issue. But on a wearing pitch that was increasingly favourable to bowlers they had to be prepeared to grind the game out. Uthacicu fell for 21, and on the next ball Gorthic Thalii survived a close run out attempt. Thalii and Joric settled and put on a determined 154. Thalii eventually was caught for 88, and another three wickets fell soon afterwards including Joric, out for a magnificent 142. It seemed that Akiiryu's challenge was over. But the wicketkeeper, Gothanoc Jor, and tail-ender Janeath Rathacicu put on 95 runs to take Akiiryu to within 22 runs of an improbable victory. Jor was deceived by the clever Aemilian and was caught by Miller, and Jorcu departed soon afterwards. Tagmatium felt they were back in with a chance. But the cool head of Rathacicu prevailed. He notched up a patient half century and Vannoc Hanalii scored the winning runs with a four. Akiiryu had won by two wickets. Basil Aemilian was the best of the Tagmatine bowlers, with 4/94. Tiberius Jones was deservedly named player of the match, with centuries in both innings. TAGMATIUM 1st innings Player ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Status ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Runs ? Nicephorus Miller ? c. Amnalos
An unbeaten 155 from Camile Mississippi was the difference, as Meteorola notched up a comfortable 10 wicket win over Phil IV. The Philians won the toss, and went in to bat. Godwin and Humphries made half centuries, and most of the Philian batsmen got starts without making a big score. Tight bowling from the Meteorolan bowlers, especially Jersey and Hispaniola, made sure that Phil IV's wickets fell regularly. All out for a respectable 250. Gloria Jersey was the pick of the bowlers with 3/44. Meteorola got off to a good start in the 2nd innings. Hugo Carolina and Camile Mississippi patiently accumulated runs and the score was 1/175 when Carolina fell for 91. Mississippi combined with the middle order to keep the runs flowing. At 5/342, it looked like they might accumulate a huge score. Gedder Laden and Andrew Locksson, who'd been belted around unmercifully, had other ideas. They dismissed Meteorola's tail-enders cheaply and it was all out for 353. Meteorola led by 103 runs. Harry Badgersmith claimed five scalps. If Phil IV thought they were in with a shot, those hopes were dashed when Godwin, Humphries and Sideman went out early. Frederick Baker and Phil Gallrat did their best to revive the Philian innings, but Gallrat was well bowled by Louisiana for 32. There was only token resistance from then on. Harvisson and Badgersmith made sure it wasn't an innings victory with an annoying partnership of 36, but it was only postponing the inevitable. Jersey bowled brilliantly with 5/30. Meteorola were only chasing 22 runs to win the match and cruised past the total without losing a wicket. PHIL IV 1st innings Player Status Runs James Godwin c. Carolina b. Amnalos
(OOC: Sorry. I've been swamped with work the last few days. Plus I am still waiting for Europtima's player names.) Niederoestereich proived to be too strong for the Republic of Mamofump in the their clash at Morek. The Niederoestereich team won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch that definitely favored the bowlers. Mamofumpian bowler Bernard Summers struck early, running out Hughes and neatly bowling Matthew Kirby the next ball. Despite a gritty innings of 36 from Peter Harold, Niederoestereich were floundering at 6/100. Bowler Luke Belcher then made a half century to bring the score up to a respectable 182. Presley took 6/44 for Mamofump. Mamofump's first innings was a debacle. Niederoestereich took wickets quickly and regularly, Meehan and Newman taking three wickets each. Only Jazzy J put up any sort of fight with a quick-fire 21. All out for 88. With a lead of almost 100 runs, the Niederoestereichians went into the second innings feeling confident. None more so than Nicholas Wall, who made a magnificent 101 in very difficult conditions. Supported by Kirby's 35, Wall secured a good score of 232. Presley and Johnson took 3 wickets each for Mamofump. Trailing by 327 runs and staring defeat in the face, Mamofump were determined to put in a good show and did not disappoint. Despite sharp and accurate bowling fro Newman and Belcher, and the loss of Hendrix for 1, Jazzy J and Neil Tennant put on 51 runs. Wickets began to fall, but Mamofump put in some obstinate batting. The highlight was a Burns' towering six off Newman. But it was not enough. Mamofump's last wicket went down with 148 runs still to be made. Newman finished with 5/38 and was named player of the match. NIEDEROESTEREICH 1st innings Player Status Runs Mark Babic lbw b. Presley 16 Andrew Hughes run out (Summers) 9 Matthew Kirby b. Niederoestereich
At the after game press conference the Niederoestereich team spokesman spoke on their behalf " The team is quite please with the result, although the first innings was a worry, still much work to be done before the next match. We would like to congratulate Republic of Mamofump on a well played match. They showed Europa what it means to be sportsman on an international stage." Link to comment
cooperscuba
Speaking after the game, The Republic of Mamofump's sports minister, Fatnokando, congratulated Niederoestereich on their convincing victory at Morek. Fatnokando denied rumours that J. Hendrix was seen leaving a club in the early hours on the day of the game, and that this had effected the player's performance. He pointed out that, prior to the game, Mr. Presley had been the victim of speculation about a perceived weight gain problem, and that rumours regarding Jimi were fabrications from the same sources. He went on to say, "I am confident that our team will not only improve from this point on, but be ultimately victorious at the end of the (European Shield) competition". Reports of a message from Mamofump's benevolent dictator to the players ("You better be, or Else") were also denied by the minister. Stop Press: In a surprise move, Fatnokandotoo, son of the Minister of Sport, has been appointed as Sports Editor of Mamofump's national newspaper, "You Better Believe This, or Else", after the sudden resignation of the previous sports editor, Slimkandobetr. Amnalos
(OOC: I couldn't wait any longer for Europtima's team sheet, so I made up some vaguely Irish-sounding names. Also, this is going to be the last game where I put in the whole score sheet. It's just too damn long. As of next game, I'll just put the top three scorers and two best bowlers in each innings.) The final game of the first round, delayed due to poor weather conditions, concluded today. The home team, Amnalos, held off a fast-finishing Europtiman team by just 39 runs in a game of the highest standard. Vislor Sedesso was the hero for the Amnalites, while the underrated Ross Pickering played two brilliant innings for Europtima. The Europtimans won the toss and sent Amnalos in to bat on what appeared to be a very bowler-friendly pitch and for a while the opening batsmen struggled to stay in. However, the tide turned and Vislor Sedesso and Otyros began to hit the boundary with great regularity. Otyros brought up his 50 with a six, but was caught on the next ball. Kilpatrick took up where Otyros had left off, hitting a slick 72. When Sedesso fell, it was only a short while before the talented Europtiman bowlers had Amnalos all out, but the Amnalits had scored 353. Steve Lanigan took six wickets. Europtima's second innings got off to a poor start when they lost William Martyn for 1, but they recovered well. David O'Reilly and Peter Kerrigan put together a 51 run partnership, and Pickering in the middle order reached his half century in quick time. He went out for 91, just short of a well deserved century. Moorhead, Lanigan and Callahan, the last three batsmen, all made nuisance runs to whittle Amnalos's lead down to just over 100. All out for 227. John Stavian put in a herculean effort in bowling, taking 7/29. With a commanding lead, Amnalos had no need for heroics. Sedesso and Otyros patiently accumulated runs, but once they were out for 72 and 54 respectively, Amnalos couldn't find any more run scorers. They collapsed to be all out for 211, after being 2/156 at one stage. Steven Lanigan was the destroyer, taking 6/36. The lead was well over 300, but Europtima's fightback gave them confidence. O'Reilly, Martyn and Kerrigan all made runs, which must have made Amnalos a little concerned. But when Joey Cullen was well caught without scoring, it looked as though it would soon be all over. Ross Pickering had other ideas. Putting together useful partnerships with the remaining batsmen, he kept the score creeping up. It was a brilliant piece of fielding by Vislor Sedesso's younger brother Corad that removed Pickering, run out for 54. Ben Jones and Neil Moorhead gave it one last shake, but it was all over. Europtima were all out for 298, just 39 runs short. Barry Rendor took 4/54. Vislor Sedesso was named Player of the Match. AMNALOS 1st innings Player Status Runs Vislor Sedesso c & b. Amnalos
Amnalos v Meteorola A stubborn 72 from Amnalite veteran Niall Kilpatrick, who turns 38 next week, got the home team over the line in a surprisingly lacklustre game against Meteorola. (OOC: somehow the scores for this match got corrupted. All I know is Amnalos won by 6 wickets, and I remember that the 72 was the top score) Niederoestereich vs Akiiryu In something of an upset, the strong Niederoestereichians succumbed to a powerful batting display from Akiiryu. The enigmatic opener Gorthic Thalii was the hero with big centuries in both innings. Mark Babic was the only Niederoestereichian to offer any resistance, with scores of 87 and 104. Niederoestereich 1st innings: 216 all out 87- Mark Babic 30- John Griffiths 17- Luke Belcher 4/28- Daroc Jorcu 4/28 Akiiryu 1st innings: 270 all out 141no - Gorthic Thalii 28 - Thaneath Joric 17 - Danthric Karalii 4/49 - Steve Newman Niederoestereich 2nd innings: 251 all out 104 - Mark Babic 59 - Matthew Kirby 31 - Peter Harold 6/55 - Janeath Rathacicu Akiiryu 2nd innings: 2/201 (target 198) 126 - Gorthic Thalii 41no - Thaneath Joric 26 - Kannoc Uthacicu 1/22 - John Griffiths Player of the match: Gorthic Thalii Shield match- Tagmatium vs Europtima A steady, competent performance by the Tagmatines overwhelmed an inexperienced Europtima by 6 wickets. Superb bowling by Richard Gallus was the highlight, as well as a surprising unbeaten 80 to Europtiman all-rounder Walter Fannin. After being skittled by the Mamofumpian bowlers and left reeling from a Jazzy J century, it took a 156 from James Godwin to resurrect Phil IV and Gedder Laden's bowling genius to shake off the opposition. Phil IV 1st innings: 149 all out 59 - Jonathan Humphries 31 - Frederick Baker 10 - Phil Gallrat 4/26 - Matt Johnson Mamofump 1st innings: 228 all out 107 - Jazzy J 32 - Pete Burns 28 - Jimi Hendrix 4/59 - Gedder Laden Phil IV 2nd innings: 397 all out 156 - James Godwin 69 - Frederick Baker 48 - Gerald Harvisson 4/85 - Elvis Presley Mamofump 2nd innings: 180 all out (target 319) 43 - Pete Burns 32 - Jazzy J 30 - Jimi Hendrix 3/21 - Gedder Laden Player of Match: James Godwin Link to comment
Amnalos
Europan Cup grand final- Akiiryu vs Amnalos After a dour struggle, Akiiryu took home the first Europan Cup. Defeating Amnalos by five wickets, the Akiiryans won the match through relentless pressure from the bowlers. Apart from Vislor Sedesso, who made centuries in both innings, Amnalos could not find run scorers. Their cause was not helped when middle-order batsman Myro Otyros pulled out before the game with a hamstring strain, replaced by all-rounder Armend Keille. Akiiryu's players shared the load, with no one player dominating. Thaneath Joric came agonizingly close to a century. On 95, he attempted to hit a slow ball from Armend Keille for six but hit it straight to Barry Rendor. This gave Keille his first international wicket. Chasing 196 in the second innings, Akiiryu looked shaky at 3/37, but an unbeaten 81 to Lanroc Kathric gave them the win. Especially from the Philian bowlers, who had been quite good in their previous matches. Tagmatium however, batting first, amassed runs quickly and relentlessly as though the likes of Gedder Laden and Andrew Locksson were second rate pie-chuckers. With a terrific 151 to Severus Wolaston and an unbeaten 172 to Marcus Pertinax, the Tagmatines declared at 6/490. At 1/221, Phil IV looked like matching the Tagmatines for sheer batting power. James Godwin continued his good form and Fred Baker had reached a half century in quick time. But when part-time bowler Michael Palaelogus deceived Baker, the rot set in. Godwin remained invulnerable, but the middle order and tail came and went like leaves on a breeze. Only Gedder Laden was entertaining. He was out for 13 off just four balls. Godwin remained not out on 150. Phil IV trailed by 207 and were forced to follow on. It did not improve for them. All out for just 122. Tagmatium won by an innings and 85 runs. Amnalos
The players from all eight nations walked out onto the field after the match for the closing speeches. "First of all," began the Director of the ACC, "let me congratulate the victorious Akiiryan team. I'm sure you will all agree that their performances over the course of the tournament have been magnificent." The Akiiryans came forward to receive their medallions. "And now the winners of the Shield, Tagmatium. The Tagmatines were unlucky in the first round and nothing short of brilliant in the Shield competition." The Tagmatines collected their medals, followed by the runners-up, Amnalos and Phil IV. The captains of the victorious sides held their trophies proudly. "Now we come onto the individual awards. Perhaps their reliance on one or two players brought them undone, but Amnalos has produced both the top run scorer and wicket taker of the tournament. Please give a round of applause to Vislor Sedesso and John Stavian." The two players collected small trophies. "Finally, the Player of the Series trophy. This fine young man did not win a Player of the Match award, so the voting on this has been somewhat of a surprise. But with an average of 23 with the bat and 11 wickets at 22 with the ball, he is surely deserving. Let's hear it for Janeath Rathacicu!" ---Stats--- Europan Cup Winners: Akiiryu Europan Shield Winners: Tagmatium Run scorers: 524 - Vislor Sedesso (AMN) 431 - Gorthic Thalii (AKI) 413 - Tiberius Jones (TAG) Wicket Takers: 22 - John Stavian (AMN) 20 - Rathu Kannaric (AKI) 18 - Basil Aemilian (TAG) Player of the Series: Janeath Rathacicu (AKI) Link to comment
