Charkov Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) The Charkov News Agency was founded in 1927. In the 98 years since it has grown to be the largest news source in Charkov. It reports the news daily in the morning and evening, although major stories or emergencies can be reported on at any time. It stayed independent from the government for a few months into the Volkov regime before getting taken over. It was used to spread propaganda during Volkov control, but became independent once again when the clans started attacking the Volkov army. They stayed reporting a few months into the civil war, but eventually fell into disarray after the headquarters was destroyed. Throughout the civil war, CNA would post several more newspapers randomly, but could never deliver many. In 2015, it quickly recovered and started posting newspapers consistently again. The CNA would have a new headquarters constructed quite fast, one of the first non-government buildings to be rebuilt that also wasn't housing. In early 2016 they also started broadcasting the morning and evening news again. Like other threads in the newsroom this thread is for news posts related to Charkov and the people's perspective on international incidents. There is very little government regulation on the CNA, mostly just the same rules that apply to all tv broadcasts. Charkov Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 10/1/2025 FOG CAUSES 40+ CAR PILE-UP There has been a giant pile-up South of Arldgrod involving dozens of cars, fog and low visibility has been blamed for the chaos. As everyone knows, there are many towns South of Arldgrod and each day most of the residents commute North to work. Last Wednesday, however, in the morning a thick fog formed, reducing visibility to almost zero. Even with the strongest headlights, drivers could not see further than 20 meters ahead of their cars. Most drivers slowed down along the highway, but almost no one was going the same speed. At around 9:30am, approximately 9 km out of Arldgrod, the first collision occurred. Over the next half an hour, 41 cars piled up, one after the other. All but a few cars were completely wrecked, and many drivers could not move for hours until emergency services freed them from the carnage. Emergency services struggled to assist, as they had to navigate out of Arldgrod and through the fog themselves. Once they stumbled upon the wreck, they closed off the road completely to prevent further damage. It took over 27 hours for everyone to be freed and bodies recovered. After a couple of hours, the sun came out briefly and mostly dissipated the fog, allowing visibility to improve drastically. Due to the road being completely barricaded, a traffic jam going kilometers back formed. Police eventually managed to create an alternative route using a lane on the side of the highway, usually going South. While not everything is known, there are currently 17 people confirmed dead, a further 23 in critical condition, and 13 people injured but not critical. Only a few people made it out unscathed, and some people are already using this as another example as to why regulation must be improved to make the road and other cars more visible in fog. We got the opportunity to interview some of those paramedics and firefighters that responded to the pile-up. Most refused an interview, and we have only included those who gave explicit permission. “It wasn't like other car pile-ups, it was like this small hill of twisted metal and blood. One of the first things I noticed was muffled screams from those injured and trapped inside. We came across several messes where a driver seat used to be, it was almost impossible to think it was once a person like you and me…” said firefighter Ivan Egarov. He was one of many who assisted in ripping away doors and metal to reach trapped drivers and passengers. This is a truly tragic day for many communities in the greater Arldgrod region, and our hearts from CNA go out to all affected. 7
