Introduction

This is a brief OOC post providing a bit of information on Mikochi and my NPC, Nanshima. The majority of 'information' regarding Mikochi can be found in the iiWiki links above. Anything else you'd like to know, I'm more than happy to clarify.

I am open to joint RP projects. If you'd like to set up a trade deal, collaborate on a RP or anything like that, feel free to let me know on discord!

The aim of this post is to provide a very basic overview and backstory to my country, to help people understand a bit more about my nation, and how their nation may interact with mine.

P.S. Any useage of 'postwar' refers to after the second civil war.

What is Mikochi?

Mikochi isn't inspired by one specific country, but more so a collection of ideas from many real wurld countries.

  • Architecture - Malaysian, Taiwanese and Japanese primarily inspire Mikochi's architecture.
  • Culture - Mostly Japanese. Post war, the culture in Mikochi shifted dramatically left. People started to care more about community than country.
  • Language - Japanese, but with loan words from Spanish instead of English.
  • Economy - Mikochi's economy is mixed. It operates similarly to Scandinavian Socialism, with lots of government regulation, and significant government ownership of services, such as healthcare, transport, water and power. However, most companies are privately owned. Mikochi as a whole is very against foreign ownership.
  • Politics - Mikochi has a two-chambered parliamentary system, with members democratically elected. As a whole, the political scene is quite left. The two large parties are the SDP (Left) and Centralists (Centre/Right). Other parties include the Ruralists (Centre/Left) and The Young Party (Right/Nationalist).
  • Military - Focus on Naval and Air Power.

What is Nanshima?

Nanshima was created following the end of the 2nd Mikochinese Civil War, which lasted from 1976 - 1980. The 2MCW ended in a stalemate, resulting in the creation of Nanshima, which represented the 'legitimate' government, headed by the Tengoku Dynasty. Nanshima, in many ways, is still alike Mikochi. However their politics and economy are much different.

  • Architecture - Prewar identical to Mikochi. Postwar, started going for 'efficiency', i.e like what is seen in many Chinese cities.
  • Culture - Same as Mikochi mostly, however remained quite conservative/nationalistic postwar.
  • Language - Remained the same, no significant differences to Mikochi.
  • Economy - Nanshima embraces foreign investment, low tariffs,
  • Politics - The government is head by the Tengoki Dynasty, currently Aeko Tengoku. The country is somewhat democratic in that it has an elected chamber, however this chamber has little power. The majority of the power sits with the Imperial Council, with positions appointed by the ruler.
  • Military - Focus on Ground and Air power.

Basic History of Mikochi

  1. 35,000 BC - First evidence of settlement.
  2. 1,200 BC - Proto-Azumics settle Mikochi Island.
  3. 6 A.D - Sheng establish a tributary relationship with the Proto Azumics on Mikochi Island.
  4. 433 A.D - Shijin Dynasty centralise the clans on Mikochi Island and create administrative reforms, new laws and a cultural 'golden age', which diversified Mikochinese culture as it's own thing, seperate to the other Azumese.
  5. 903 A.D - Internal strife and natural disasters cause the collapse of the Shijin dynasty, bringing about a dark age and a return to tribalism.
  6. 1202 A.D - The Hakkei Clan reunifies the island. Hakkei Yuji establishes the Hakkei Dynasty and takes his conquests outside of Mikochi. Aozorashima and Takarajima are conquered from native tribes.

  14. 1980 A.D - Tengoku government overthrown in the Second Mikochinese Civil War. Tengoku Dynasty breaks away with Nanshima.
  15. 1984 A.D - Democratic People's Republic of Mikochi declared.

Interactions - Overview

Below, I'll go into a few ways and list a few facts that may influence how you interact with Mikochi and Nanshima.

It is completely fine and dare I say, even preferred if you may want to not officially recognise either Mikochi or Nanshima. If your country is vehemently anti socialist, anti-revolution/breakaway or perhaps had significant assets siezed post civil war, it may make sense for your country to not recognise, or atleast not maintain a diplomatic mission with Mikochi. Similarly, if your country is highly activist, pro human rights, socialist, etc, then maybe you don't recognise Nanshima! It's completely up to you!

Mikochi:

  • Mikochi tries to be quite neutral in foreign affairs.
  • Mikochi does not have a standing army, but has a strong navy and air defence system.
  • Mikochi leans towards socialism, and tries to appease other socialist/left leaning nations.
  • Mikochi values regional connections.
  • Following the 2MCW, Mikochi nationalised almost all wealth in the lands it owned post-war. This includes a lot of foreign-owned assets.
  • The ruling party in Mikochi is the left leaning SDP.
  • Mikochi is quite strong about environmentalism.

Nanshima:

  • Nanshima has the better claim on reunification.
  • In terms of numbers, Nanshima has a very large army and strong defences built up as a result of the 2MCW, however would lack the means to use said army offensively.
  • Nanshima is pro glubalisation, and has policies that make the country attractive to investers.
  • Nanshima is somewhat alienated from much of Aurelia due to Mikochi's efforts in the AL.
  • Nanshima is still ruled by the Tengoku family, albeit more democratically than before. Despite this, the Tengoku name is still associated with human rights abuses from previous generations.
  • Nanshima currently has a bit of a leadership crisis. The current leader, Tengoku Aeko, a 17 year old girl, shows little interest in actually leading the country, but greatly enjoys the the benefits of being royalty.
