The Commonwealth Of Welkija,

     Formerly the Socialist Commonwealth Of Welkija, the birth of the commonwealth was a turbulent one, emerging out of the fires of revolution, however it never truly found its place. The first government was formed out of a broad coalition of left-wing parties all vying for some degree of social reform, the largest faction within the coalition was the 'Socialist Party Of Welkija' (SPW). It utilized its influence to leverage its subordinate members into 'merging', of course every merger which came out of this heavily favored the core of the SPW. By the time of the next election, the 'broad coalition' transformed into a Party which could only be described as a amalgamation of various schools of left-wing thought, so large it no longer held a concrete party line, often times holding various contradictory positions at once.  Calling itself the 'United Workers Party' (UWP). The first bill which the party could actually agree on was the addition of the prefix 'Socialist' to the name of the state, the second being the dismantling of the opposition via the 'Act of national unity' which stipulated that any other party which wishes to run for election must sign a stipulation agreeing to not campaign or oppose any decision voted for within parliament 'democratic centralism.' Of course, not many parties decided to legally turn themself into a controlled opposition and those which did were often branded as "Communist collaborators" and the likes.  

Today

     Various cliques at points controlled the party, often undermining the efforts of prior governments, economic planning was never properly implemented, collectivization abruptly ended just after it barely began, land reform was restarted multiple times. The uncertainty of tomorrow allowed for opposition parties to begin forming, the largest one being a trade union, 'Freedom' which organized a mass national-strike, disrupting a significant sector of the economy. Eventually the government came to the negotiating table and ended up agreeing to hold the first properly free elections since the revolution, and formerly removed the prefix 'Socialist' from the name of the state. However, the election results saw nobody satisfied, as 'Freedom' failed to garner a majority of the seats due to its voting base being split amongst the dozens of newly created minor parties, while the UWP did not have enough seats to form a majority. The Commonwealth lies on a standstill, being a purely parliamentary republic, there is no other avenue for pushing through legislature. The future of the commonwealth lies in the ability of both sides working together, or finding alternative means of securing power.

• Iron Mining and Steel Smelting form the majority of the industry, with expanding construction sectors however lacking light industry and consumer goods production.
• Little to no service sector, primarily heavy industry.

Vision

• The various parties within government all seek to end the political Gridlock, however they remain fundamentally opposing each other.
• The defacto ruling government will seek protection and political support from a nearby 'socialist' state
• The opposition will attempt to unite itself around one of its parties, potentially seeking foreign investment and support in organizing protests and strikes.
• Carry out economic and political reforms in line with whichever party wins the power struggle and seek to join whichever 'bloc' has been supportive. 
• Long term goal: Gain access to the international waters, either by carving out a trade deal with a friendly power to allow us to conduct trade via there ports or go about negotiating a lease.

Other

• Despite being a made up of various minor ethnicities, the nation has one unified language, based of off Interslavic, however minority as well as nationalist groups seek to revive ethnic languages and bring them back into popular use.
• Despite its multi-ethnic nature, secessionist movements are usually small and only attract ultra-nationalists however with recent political uncertainty this may begin to change.
