Kingdom of Dunhorn

The Kingdom of Dunhorn is a more northern state than Pentium, sharing a similar culture and history in many ways.  The two states aren't allies on the wurld stage but haven't found much disagreeability between each other during their long stewardship of the peninsula.  Finding common ground in their traditions and language for the most part, though there have been several smaller-scale conflicts and wars with the northern nation.  Often facing the same threats as the Republic to its south, but very rarely fighting alongside Pentium.  But, rarely invading on its own without additional support from other nations around it.

Dunhorn finds itself more sparsely populated and poorer than its southern neighbours despite their larger landmass, a mix of lessened habitable locations and poorer economic opportunities have forced the nation to push itself away from the international scene to maintain what little domestic industry that remained within the nation.  Although not cut off from the rest of the wurld's markets and systems, the protectionist policy has reigned in much of the exports and imports in an attempt to consolidate resources and raise government funds through tariffs and taxes.  While somewhat unpopular, the policy has helped to keep the bleeding economy away from complete devastation.  Rich in natural resources, however, Dunhorn's industrial output is only hampered by the lower levels of population for its size.

Militarily, Dunhorn's defence forces are purely focused on defending its borders from outside threats.  Mandatory conscription grants the Kingdom vast defensive capabilities concerning manpower, but lacks motivation and sustainability due to lowering wages and worsening equipment as the economy struggles to repair itself from its current rut has the force becomes more and more incapable year over the year.  Not to the point of becoming pushovers, as any conflict in the nation would result in a bloody and protracted guerrilla campaign that would bleed many local and regional forces dry before a total victory could be declared.

The Government is jointly run between the King and the parliament, in a sort of limited constitutional monarchy.  The King oversees the Military, Foreign Policy and Law Enforcement while the Parliament oversees Domestic Policy, Economic oversight and Taxation.  The King ultimately has say over much of the elected representatives, but cannot remove ministers appointed by the parliament and is incapable of overturning policy without approval from parliament, or during times of crisis.  Over the centuries, this system has generated and maintained strife, frustration and resentment between the two institutions.

This expansion is going to be attempted diplomatically, but I am going to pull out the dice of random chance when it comes down to figuring out what happens from a list of options internally.  It may mean that there is a war in the North or a peaceful transition of power.  We will have to see.

Statistics wise,

Population: 0 Point (7 Million)
Economy: 1 Point ($12,560)
Land Area: 1 Point (~199,787 km2)

And to share some of the answers to the questions that Orioni asked me in:

1)
I envision proposing an offer to the government of Dunhorn an out for its economic rut, access to greater industrial capacity and assistance with helping to modernize the economy, it's not quite failing yet but is starting to edge towards the brink of economic depression which the state is unlikely to resolve on its own.  It will be somewhat of a burden on the Pentian state until the economic fortunes in the Kingdom change, but part of the said agreement would involve some form of economic integration with Pentium.  These two states share much in the way of culture and working together isn't something foreign to both states, but there hasn't been much in the way of cooperation between them in a broad sense.  Especially with Dunhorn adopting a policy that veers into the more isolationist, not out of fear of the international order like in Pentium during its reconstruction, but in a desperate effort to raise funds through tariffs and import duties.   It is also plausible that Dunhorn was better off than Pentium for the last 100 years or so, and has only begun to fail economically for the last 20 years.  Slowly but surely losing its ability to compete on the wurld stage through a lack of population and capital.  I'd prefer it to be a diplomatic affair, as I don't believe that Pentium has the political willpower to invade another state for the sake of taking it over, but I will be drawing on my D6s to keep things interesting.

2)
This would be a modern-day expansion, the history of Pentium is fairly well explored in places like the wiki and I'm pretty happy with how it is at the moment.  It also allows me to expand on a few characters within the current Pentian government in the civil sector rather than the military side.  It would take a few months of IRL time to complete the agreements and RP for it.  And I believe I would have to get consent from Gotneska since he is the only neighbour that could potentially border me.

3)
As for the integration, I mentioned that there was a history of frustration and resentment between the institutions of the King and the elected Parliament.  I would have to balance both sides of the government to have a peaceful integration, but there is room to play off either side of the government to advance the goals of integration, both sides have support from different parts of Dunhorn society, such as the aristocrats and wealthy landowners, while the Parliament has more support from the common man and local industry.  However, as an end goal.  The final agreement will likely see either an abdication of the current king, or legislation that makes the kingdom a genuine constitutional monarchy in which the king has no power beyond a figurehead.  It would sort of mirror how Pentium has removed its monarch from power but has allowed the royal family to blend into regular society.  Of course, this will have potential consequences down the line, such as resentment from royalist elements in Dunhorn, but will likely result in little actual violence.  (Unless the dice tell me to).

If anyone has any questions or criticisms, please let me know and I'll get to work on it.

Yep this all looks good to me! I'm happy to give this the stamp of approval.

Just a bit of caution on the dice, I wouldn't recommend leaving too much up to chance. Make sure you're also guiding the expansion towards a coherent story :P. When you begin your expansion I will add it as a reserved territory.

Sounds good, Thanks Xio.

I've got a storyline in mind that branches off in a few paths which is where the dice come in, there won't be extremely sharp turns because of weird dice rolls.  I'll probably be putting a post out for it tonight.
