(META) AN Agencies

This thread is kind of out of time and space. There's a decent amount of IRL UN agencies. There's already been some RPs and requests.

Agencies

• UNESCO → ANESCO
• WMO → GMO

Departments

• DPO → ANDPO

If I recall correctly, I thought @Gallambria had a version of the ICAO, though I don't see a thread about it. Am I remembering that right?

Since there are many more agencies and departments, I was thinking that we could streamline the process by listing everything that remains and providing a central place to make a case for headquartering the agency in one's nation.

Let's say claims should be posted in reply to this post. They should include:

1. Name of organization.
2. Proposed founding date of organization.
3. Proposed headquarters city.
4. Explanation for why IC you think your nation is suitable to host the organization.
5. Optional: OOC any IRL expertise, experience, or background you have with the subject matter.

If there are no OOC objections regarding the quality or logic of the claim and/or counter proposals within say, 10 days of a claim, then let's say your nation got the agency.

If multiple players have a desire for an agency, and multiple proposals are put in within 10 days of the initial request, then the fate of the organization can be decided within its own in character RP thread. (This idea by @Poja )

I know there's already been a request for a department, but from here I think it could be a good idea to start with claiming agencies before moving on to departments.

For the time being, lets stick to one Agency per player. Depending on the amount of interest from Eurth residents in hosting Agencies, that could change.

Unclaimed Special Agencies

1. !(FAO) Food and Agriculture Organization
   • "Leads international efforts to fight hunger. It is both a forum for negotiating agreements between developing and developed countries and a source of technical knowledge and information to aid development."
2. !(IFAD) International Fund for Agricultural Development
   • "The International Fund for Agricultural Development, since it was created in 1977, has focused exclusively on rural poverty reduction, working with poor rural populations in developing countries to eliminate poverty, hunger and malnutrition; raise their productivity and incomes; and improve the quality of their lives."
   • Thoughts on combining the above two into one agency? For Eurth gameplay reasons it could be redundent having both.
3. !(ILO) International Labor Organization
   • "Promotes international labor rights by formulating international standards on the freedom to associate, collective bargaining, the abolition of forced labor, and equality of opportunity and treatment."
4. !(IMO) International Maritime Organization
   • "The International Maritime Organization has created a comprehensive shipping regulatory framework, addressing safety and environmental concerns, legal matters, technical cooperation, security, and efficiency."
5. !(IMF) International Monetary Fund Major Organization
   • "Fosters economic growth and employment by providing temporary financial assistance to countries to help ease balance of payments adjustment and technical assistance. The IMF currently has $28 billion in outstanding loans to 74 nations."
   • I know the IMF and wurld Bank serve different purposes and mission, but is it worth combining them into one organization on Eurth?
6. !(ITU) International Telecommunications Union
   • "Specialized agency for information and communication technologies. It is committed to connecting all the wurld's people – wherever they live and whatever their means. Through our work, we protect and support everyone's fundamental right to communicate."
7. !(UNIDO) United Nations Industrial Development Organization
   • "The specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive glubalization and environmental sustainability."
8. !(WTO) wurld Tourism Organization
   • "Agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism."
   • If there's no interest in this one, could we combine it with ANESCO?
9. !(UPU) Universal Postal Union
   • "The primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services."
10. !wurld Bank Major Organization
    • "Focuses on poverty reduction and the improvement of living standards wurldwide by providing low-interest loans, interest-free credit, and grants to developing countries for education, health, infrastructure, and communications, among other things. The wurld Bank works in over 100 countries."
    • Includes five sub-organizations.
11. !(WHO) wurld Health Organization Major Organization
    • "The directing and coordinating authority on international health within the United Nations system. The objective of WHO is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

    • "Protects intellectual property throughout the wurld through 23 international treaties."

There were certain agencies that were claimed by nations before the decision was made that claimers had to make a thread to put the case forward.

ICAO (ANCAO) by @Gallambria was one and ANCLOS by @Orioni was another. It was felt it up be unfair that they had to then do it retroactively.

• Organization: (WHO) wurld Health Organization
• Founding: 4 April 1960
• Headquarters: Gorlenje, Dosnima, Konfederacija Poja
• IC Reasoning: The Konfederacija Poja has a robust and modernized healthcare system that would be considered first wurld in our real wurld.  The focus on public health of the WHO, with ensuring high health quality for all peoples of the wurld, combating and eradicating diseases, and establishing international standards would fit very well with the Pojački perspective of healthcare.  The Pojački government would offer little to no resistance to an organization such as the WHO working to eradicate diseases like smallpox, malaria, and polio (to name a few) nor would it think that nations do not deserve to have the best health resources available.  It would see the Assembled Nations as an excellent vector for this, perhaps more so than many other agencies, except perhaps with the historical registers one that it would hold in equal standing.
• OOC Reasoning: This isn't something I have any experience with or expertise in but have great interest and I am hopefully that my activity commitments will outweigh this.  It's certainly an organization that I could RP with the collective membership to have prominent roles during epidemic outbreaks, a pandemic if we ever decide to torture ourselves, and just the general programs run by the WHO such as vaccinations, healthcare support in rural or underrepresented areas, and the general science of learning about medicine and health.

4. wurld Trade Organization (WTO)
5. Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization Preparatory Commission (CTBTO Prep Com)

Rolling some of the ones that could be seen as having overlapping jurisdictions together seems like a good idea. It'll be less complicated for us.

[Mikochi]

Name of organization: International Maritime Organization

Proposed founding date of organization: Original Founding: Whenever. Moved to Mikochi: 7th June 2001

Proposed headquarters city: Shiokaze City (Shiokaze is part of the capital's greater area, but administratively it's own city.)

Explanation for why IC you think your nation is suitable to host the organization: Mikochi being in the Lotus Sea and near the mouth of Manamana Bay means that a lot of maritime trade goes near the country. A portion of Mikochi's navy is dedicated to anti-piracy, something that Mikochi is quite proactive in.

Mikochi's maritime culture also helps play a part. A lot of Mikochi still relies on fishing, meaning the country has quite a high boats per capita. Additionally, shipbuilding is a prominent industry in the country, be it military naval destroyers, or just a small family owned business that builds and services fishing boats.

My plan for it would be that the IMO was originally founded in another country, but probably Manamana, due to having the canal etc. Perhaps due to corruption or political instability, the IMO had to be moved , date isn't really important but lets say 2001, and the chosen destination would be Mikochi.

As the host of the organisation, Mikochi would definitely push for greener shipping rules, due to Mikochi being one of the Wurld's most at risk countries from climate change. Additionally, Mikochi is quite defensive of sea wildlife, and would be quite proactive in seeking to limit the damage shipping has on sea life.

To expand on the ANCLOS, here is some information you should know.

• The original story to settle these Laws of the Sea was initiated by @Faramount.
• The convention is supposed to have taken place in the @Sunset Sea Islands in 1959.

With the SSI currently under military control, I suppose the ANCLOS HQ may have temporarily moved to my country just to remain operational.
