From: Elena Þornviður, 1st Gotneskan* Ambassador to the Assembled Nations

Subject: Glubal Meteorological Org. Application

The nation of Gotneska is pleased to announce that we would like to put our name on the list of candidates for the newly founded GMO.

Why do we feel that we should be the candidate for the newly created GMO?

The response is simply our location. We are located in UTC+1, which means we're not too far ahead of any nation on Eurth. This allows for better forecasting and will hopefully aid nations if they lack the modern technology to predict future weather systems and help save lives.

But at the end of the day, why do we care about this? Gotneska and her people have always been fascinated by the weather. Maybe that's because if we don't pay attention, it could later be a life-or-death situation. If you don't mind, I'd like to tell a short story.

Three years ago, Gotneska had one of its worst winter storms. In June 1954, the Gotneskan Parliament passed the first set of laws that stated how the nation would respond to a potential weather disaster. Its main topic was winter-related. Now fast-forward to January 1955. That month, a powerful upper low slammed right into southern Gotneska. With this knocked-out power to millions of Gotneskan's, the storm would leave anywhere between 9144 and, 21336 mm of snow in the higher elevations. Along the coast, cities like Læniguëuíl and Göteborg would pick up anywhere between 254 and 558.8 mm of rain. Knowing that with all the snow melt coming in that spring and summer, the Gotneskan Government issued a disaster for all of Gotneskans major rivers, informing citizens that if they lived in flood-prone areas, they would need to relocate. With government action, we prevented hundreds of lives from being lost because of that historic winter and flood season. We hope that we can show that things like this are possible, and all that is required is for us to help and make sure no one dies, but that's our wish. We understand that making a wish will be hard, but for everyone saved at the end of the day, that is the main goal.

Thank you, and we can't wait to hear back from you. If we are the chosen candidates, would you all like a list of potential cities?

Sincerely,

Elena Þornviður

1st Gotneskan Ambassador to the Assembled Nations

Notes

* In 1958, Gotneska was known as the Goutian Empire (Kingdom of Gotneska)

Further the Goutian Empire is used until 1979 but may have survived even after the war until 1985 but during that period from 79-85 the official gov’t was called Provisional Government of the Gotneskan People. It is understandable if during that period the GMO was temporarily moved.

As a nation that shares positive relations with Gotneska, Mavran would be more than pleased should the newly-founded Glubal Meteorological Organisation find its home in the wintery wonderlands of your wonderful nation. While Mavran has not always shared the most positive relations with Gotneska historically speaking, the recent sobering events that took place on our continent, as well as the changing course of time, have surely elevated Gotneska to the position of a nation with which Mavran would wish to enjoy warm relations. Your nation may recall the aid that Mavran sent to your nation during the storm, which you have mentioned in your application. While Mavranai aid may have been relatively minor due to circumstances related to reconstruction, this move highlights before all Mavran's willingness to cooperate with your wonderful nation. Additionally, the effective response by Gotneskan has sparked much debate in Mavran itself regarding following similar methodologies, particularly in the often snowy Arbar Mountains. Gotneska continues to set an excellent example regarding meteorological preparedness wurldwide, and as such the Federal Government sees no better nation to host such an important organisation for meteorological events.

Mavran would additionally be interested in hearing of the potential cities which would host such a vital organisation, possibly through private channels, should Gotneska be willing.

This being said, Mavran wholeheartedly supports the Gotneskan Application for the GMO.

Gracefully,

Milina Hauter, Mavranai Ambassador to the Assembled Nations

Your excellency,

The Greater Holy Empire of the Aromans gladly welcomes the candidacy of the Goutian Empire for the headquarters of the Glubal Meteorological Organisation. It seems that this organisation has been overlooked by many other nations and international organisations, despite the undoubtedly vital role it might play in life on Eurth. Not just the life of the ordinary people of our shared planet but also for that of future generations. Studying and then promulgating any changes in these patterns is vital for all peoples and nations – after all, it is well known that any changes in weather greatly impact trade between nations and agriculture. Long term droughts can cause famines and even unexpected downbursts can have massive impacts on harvests and therefore livelihoods. Governments and, indeed, nations have fallen due to lack of basic foodstuffs.

Aromania will support the candidacy of the Goutian Empire as the location for the headquarters of the Glubal Meteorological Organisation. Although your nation seems to be the only one to have put itself forward for this role, this shows that your nation holds this position dear to it and is willing to put itself out on a limb – and not just for the sake of national prestige but genuine concern for the lives of the rest of the people of Eurth.

My government will not ask for a list of city locations. It is felt by the Holy Imperial Government that this is a decision best left to the people of the Goutian Empire, so long as the considerations of logistics and connectivity with the rest of Eurth are considered. After all, if an organisation's headquarters are difficult to access for other nations, then it may render it redundant.

May God bless the people of Goutian Empire.

Eteokles Antoniatos
