The Armed Republic of Paranoid Schizos is a huge, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 947 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 58%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Genetic researchers have been expelled, the pikey is a protected species, citizens can be frequently spotted going about their business stark naked, and the nanny industry has had a boom after maternity leave was recently banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Paranoid Schizos' national animal is the pikey, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the transit van.

HISTORY

The Armed Republic is a coalition of fiercely independent tribes brought together under a unified plan by the forward-thinking prowess of the leader of the then largest tribe, the Wallassi, in the mid 1800's.

He quickly pressed ahead with the unification plan and established proper borders and adopted a dictatorial style of leadership when it became apparent the entire country was crying out for this kind of direction.

The country developed into an insular, untrusting military dictatorship, with a disproportionate amount spent on the accumulation of weapons. However, the leadership unwisely decided to purchase new weapons rather than invest in the development of their own weapons, consequently, the Army has a lot of unreliable, antiquated equipment that is poorly maintained. The need has been recognised and plans are in place to update the Army. By far the biggest love of the military commanders are their artillery. They have thousands of gun tubes and a ready stock of High Explosive, Phosphorous, Chemical and Biological shells.

MILITARY

Military service is compulsory.

We have no Navy to speak of, just a few converted tugs and inshore boats for mine laying and coastal defence.

The Air Force is very much in its infancy and the self-styled President fails to see the potential despite encouragement from his military leaders.

In short, we are an aggressive bully that can't really cope with the vast changes in the (then) modern world. Life is cheap.
