History

The United Republic of Argis/Alharu traces its origins to a tumultuous period when one of its colonizers, driven by aggression and implementing disliked economic policies, forcefully took control of the other settlements. These oppressive circumstances forged a sense of unity among the affected colonies as they collectively bore the brunt of their colonizer's actions. Grievances against their now common oppressor became the unifying thread that brought these settlements closer, setting the stage for the eventual struggle for independence.

Led by visionary figures (akin to the Founding Fathers), the United Republic declared its independence and waged a war for liberation. Their determination to break free from oppressive rule ignited a fierce and protracted conflict, testing the resolve and resilience of the United Colonies. Through perseverance and a shared desire for freedom, they emerged victorious from the dust, establishing the foundations of the young nation. 

However, the challenges of early independence loomed large for the young United Republic. While the common cause and struggle for independence was a uniting factor initially, one can’t ignore the diverse cultural backgrounds of its constituent colonies, on the other hand, the colonies couldn’t afford to ease their guard. Safeguarding their newfound freedom continued to be a primary unifying force. Vigilance and preparedness were paramount in maintaining their hard-fought independence. The struggle to forge a cohesive national identity amidst cultural differences was a monumental task, but unifying figures, (including a Washington counterpart), emerged to spearhead the unity of the United Republic.

Directly after its independence, the United Republic faced tensions with its former colonizers. While some would recognize the nation’s sovereignty, after its hard-won independence, others sought to reclaim lost territories or tried to exert their influence over the new nation in some way. The level of tension would vary, depending on the distance, and their nationalistic or irredentist sentiments. Over time, relations would normalize with most nations, but pockets of tension may still persist, again dependent on those nations' level of nationalism and irredentism.

 

 

Geography

The majority of this would rely on my map placement, however, I would like to have a range of climates that would be found in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States (so, NY, PA, NJ, MD, DE, NC, SC, VA, so, in general, a mix of temperate and subtropical climates. (so a humid continental climate, and humid subtropical climates). The coastline would exhibit sandy beaches and rocky cliffs, offering scenic beauty and plenty of opportunities for coastal activities. Notable bays, inlets, and natural harbors dot the shoreline, providing strategic locations for trade and maritime endeavors. Prominent in the nation’s geography would be a mountainous region reminiscent of the Appalachian Range. This would act as a natural barrier for the nation, And of course, there would be a network of rivers and lakes, ensuring for plentiful supply of freshwater resources, and supporting agriculture and manufacturing. 

While I’d love to give more specifics, my aim is to encapsulate America’s natural beauty as much as I can, perhaps the initial states that I’m drawing my influence from may not be as beautiful. It’s a start. But again, it all depends on my map placement.

 

Economy

The United Republic exhibits a gradually emerging economy, with a growing presence in the Quaternary sector, particularly in Information Services and Technology Markets. Access to valuable resources has positioned the nation to venture into technological manufacturing, contributing to the development of its emerging technology sector. The economy is also well-established in the Tertiary sector, encompassing a range of service-based industries, especially tourism.

Agriculture continues to play a significant role in the United Republic’s economy, drawing inspiration from the agricultural practices found in the states I mentioned earlier. The nation’s agricultural sector, while experiencing some slight decline, is compelled to innovate in response to changing dynamics. This has led to the growth of the agricultural technology industry, where advances are made to improve productivity and sustainability.

Manufacturing remains to be an important component of the United Republic’s economy, albeit with some limitations imposed by environmental policies aimed at preserving the nation’s natural beauty. However, efforts to revitalize the economy and foster sustainable growth may lead to future expansions and relaxations of these policies, allowing manufacturing to gradually progress in a slow but steady manner.

Several factors have contributed to the weak economy and delayed economic growth of the United Republic. The absence of a slave trade (unlike in the real-wurld United States), altered the trajectory of economic growth. Additionally, the United Republic had to face external hindrances to trade during its struggle for independence, as neighboring colonizers sought to impede economic progress. Overcoming these challenges and revitalizing the economy will require focused efforts and strategic actions.

 

Government

The United Republic operates under a federal system of governance, resembling that of the United States. The government structure ensures a division of powers between the federal government and individual states, promoting a balance of authority and autonomy.

The executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the UR are organized as separate entities, each with its own distinct functions and responsibilities. While maintaining their independence, these branches are subject to checks and balances, ensuring accountability and preventing the concentration of power. The United Republic also has some additional branches of government that don’t fit the ordinary trias politica theorem: A Central Bank, Supreme Auditory Institute, Civil Service Commission, Constitutional Convention, National Ombudsman, and Human Rights Commission make up additional branches of government.

At the core of the United Republic’s governance is its Constitution. This foundational document reflects the aspirations of the people for freedom and self-governance. It encompasses a section dedicated to the rights and liberties of individuals, safeguarding their fundamental freedoms. Another section outlines the powers and responsibilities of the government, defining the framework within which is operates.

Political leadership in the United Republic is determined through a democratic process. The President is elected every six years through an Electoral College system. Each state sends two senators to the Senate, elected by their respective state legislatures. The House of Representatives, representing specific districts and their constituents, are elected every three years using an FPTP system.

While race has not been a primary issue in the United Republic’s political landscape, the rise of identity politics in modern times has contributed to increased polarization. Various political ideologies, factions, and movements shape the nation’s political discourse and decision-making processes. Although multiple parties are represented in Congress, the ‘’Republican’’ and ‘’Democrat’’ parties remain the larger political entities in both houses.

 

 

Culture and Ethnicity

The United Republic embraces a culturally diverse landscape, resulting from its historical origins and subsequent waves of immigration. The nation’s cultural makeup reflects the rich heritage of its settlers, with prominent influences from Spanish, English, Swahili, Scandi-Slav, and Russo-Ukrainian descent. This fusion of cultures has given rise to a vibrant and varied societal tapestry.

The cultural influences have left an impressive mark on the nation’s art, music, cuisine, and other forms of cultural expression. Traditional practices and celebrations from diverse backgrounds hold significance, with many of them recognized as federal holidays, or observed in other meaningful ways.

The United Republic’s cultural fusion has contributed to a cohesive societal fabric. Over time, the blending of different cultures has eased tensions and fostered a sense of unity. The nation celebrates its diversity and recognizes the value of individuality, while also placing importance on community, family, and shared values.

English serves as the primary language in the United Republic, followed by Spanish, Russian, Swahili, and Norwegian. A multitude of other languages, dialects, and even some Creole languages may also be present.

Citizens of the United Republic embody a strong sense of patriotism and take pride in their cultural heritage. They celebrate their unique backgrounds while maintaining a collective identity as a resilient and hardworking nation. The United Republic’s people are known for their warmth, hospitality, and openness to diversity, creating an environment that welcomes both citizens and foreigners alike.

 

Military

The Military of the United Republic is structured into several branches: the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force, with the Marines operating as a specialized unit under the Navy for the moment. Each branch may have additional specialized units to fulfill specific roles and missions. The United Republic values a strong and well-equipped military to ensure national defense and security.

National Defense in the United Republic is achieved through the utilization of National Guards and Militias. The National Guard units serve as a vital component of national defense during both peacetime and times of national or statewide emergencies. Additionally, the right to bear arms is upheld, allowing citizens to own firearms. Militias, although varying in activation and structure across different states, can be called upon during times of war.

The relationship between the civilian government and the military is defined by civilian oversight and control. The President serves as the Commander in Chief, and soldiers pledge their allegiance to the flag and constitution they are dedicated to defending. During peacetime, the National Guards are commanded by their respective state governors, with the potential for federalization if necessary. The Joint Chiefs hold regular briefings to ensure coordination and collaboration among the branches. Military culture is closely tied to the presidency, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

The United Republic has a significant historical milestone in its independence war, which solidified its sovereignty and independence. While other historical conflicts are yet to be determined, the United Republic’s military has developed a doctrine centered around tactical prowess and logistical expertise. Their approach to warfare emphasizes strategic planning, adaptability, and effective utilization of available resources.

The United Republic is currently in the process of reassessing its role in international security. While its capacity for power projection is limited due to budget constraints, there is a growing desire among political leaders to expand the nation’s international engagement.
