OOC Balticas Forgotten Territories

@Baltica — Will you be using Morshu Land to block the Keelpijp? Many have claimed never to do this, but all have tried, i.e. Variota and Sayf.

A resounding No. Ive been informed of past attempts to block the Keelpijip, and the subsequent mess that resulted from the times it's been done. Lore wise I don't see why I would have any reason to block the Keelpijip since it directly harms my current economic endeavours and goals (A Free and Liberal Baltica) and as such blocking the straights is not In my best interest, now or in the future. I've very much attempted to maintain Baltican neutrality in the current ongoing conflicts and refrained from placing my navy within the Keelpijip thus far, my navy is also quite small, both compared to my neighbours and other dominant naval powers. I understand the hesitation, especially because of the past attempts to block the Keelpijip, but I've been reluctant to do so up to this point and I don't see why I would block it even if I had the chance to do so. If required, I also would not mind doing an RP revolving around securing free travel through the Keelpijip (perhaps something similar to the Montreux Convention with the Bosporus) just to put people at ease.

As a note, I'd add that Variota, being a fairly well armed NPC would have a massive issue with Morshu Land. Placing borders down with a highly militarised state sharing control is a sure fire way to begin a long standing history of bad relations- mainly because it upsets the status quo.

If the claim is made for Morshu, it implies either very good relations with Variota after some historical event or a terrible one. I'd like to note for the record that this is burden to be solved before any reservations are made.

Could it be simply resolved by moving Baltica's proposed territory away from Variota's border and giving a bit of a buffer zone?

I like the idea of RPing an international accords to protect free travel through the Keelpijp. Especially if you move forward with this historic expansion.

Wouldn't Variota see this as easy pickings due to being so isolated from Baltica proper, even with a buffer zone?

OOC Balticas Forgotten Territories

Hello everyone! I've decided that as a part of my plans for the future of Baltica, I would like to detail some of my possible plans revolving around expansions and territory in the future. Nothing here is really final, and this is mostly to gauge other people's opinions and thoughts on the possible future of Balticas expansions going forward. If you have anything to say regarding these plans please do :) all opinions and Ideas are welcomed.

The Bogan / Krause Islands

The Bogan / Krause Islands, are probably my most likely expansion after my existing one in Kalnija. The two Islands are located fairly close to Baltica, and rest within the Kezanoi / Green Sea. My plans for these Islands is to house what was formally, the government and monarchy of the Kingdom of Baltica, who fled to those islands after their defeat during the first Baltican Civil War (That took place in the 1960s and eventually led to the formation of the Republic Government), setting up a government in exile, that seemingly never became incorporated into Baltica proper. The Islands themselves would have been discovered after Baltica, in a similar fashion, Dolch merchants would discover the Islands accidentally and end up settling them. However, the Islands would experience large famines in both the 1400s and 1500s, which saw their populations collapse. It was at this point that Gintarian Dolch (Baltic Germans) from Baltica would end up sailing and resettling the devastated Islands, eventually leading to the formation of the Principality of Bogan, an independent princedom. This age of independence would not last, and after the death of the first Bogan King, King Ebber, after which the islands would be inherited by his brother, King Bruckwin at the time, Duke of Mels. Eventually the Islands would become the personal domain of the Baltican Royal family and were managed directly by the future Kings, who slowly transformed them into a hub of arts, natural beauty and wealth. After the Civil War, the government would flee (alongside a part of the Royal Navy), establishing the temporary Kingdom of Baltica, which would be renamed in 1988 to the Kingdom of Krause, the original Dolch name for the Islands. As mentioned this is most likely the next expansion after Kalnija. I believe that due to the fall of the former Republic Government, which was evidently very anti-monarchy, the new Federation might very well attempt to reunite these Islands to Baltica proper as part of the grander dream to reunify all former Baltican lands. How would this go? I'm not fully sure, but I see some great potential in the RP from this situation regardless, especially regarding Balticas slow transition into a much more glubalised and less nationalistic state.

Morshu Land

Morshu Land is my second proposal and is much more unlikely. It rests on what I consider to be a very strategic location within Alharu, being one of the few transport ways out of the continent's interior. Because I don't really want to Interfere with this vital waterway, Morshu Land is less about being concentrated around said waterway and more focused on the little lake that's right next to it. Historically, I see it as justified that the Balticans would have wanted some sort of territory across the Keelpijip to justify their control over the straits, and as such it would make sense to settle that area. As for some of the history behind Morshu Land, it would have most likely been settled sometime in the 1600s or 1700s, the supposed “Golden Age of Baltica”, being the first time all of present-day Baltica would have been united as a single state. A sponsored expedition would be set across the Keelpijip, after which a small piece of territory would be settled along a particularly large Lake, which would be dubbed New Morshu (Named after the largest Lake in Baltica), and the territory around it would be dubbed Morshu Land. Similarly to the Bogan / Krause Islands, this land would have gained Independence during the first Baltican Civil War in the 60s, but a local and native government would take control of the area before the Monarchy was able to stop them, forcing them to subsequently flee East to the Islands. Although I have not yet decided what the native culture of the land would have been (Most likely native Variotians or possibly an entirely new group), it would still retain a large Gintarian Dolch population as well as possibly a small Raskian Minority. Unlike Baltica proper, the Confederation of Morshu is a much more decentralised state, that managed to retain its democratic ideals past its independence in the 60s (In Baltica, after the first civil war a dictatorship would be established shortly after). My main RP between Baltica and Morshu Land would involve agriculture, and the development of the industry within the nation through Balticas help, eventually either leading to a monetary union or outright expansion as Morshu joins the Baltican Federation. As I said however, I'm still hesitant to expand here unless I have the support of the mods, as I don't wish to discourage anyone from settling that area in the future nor do I really want to control all trade going out of Eastern Alharu. This is why I also don't wish to claim any part of the river that would be North of Morshu, Instead my true wishes are only to control the lake, as much of the agricultural RP would revolve around it.

Although these plans are currently quite barebones due to my focus with my current expansion in Kalnija, I just wanted to share my ideas to see if anyone would have any clashes with them which can be resolved now, or possibly even add on to these Ideas to maybe one day make them a reality. As always if you have anything to share just leave your Ideas behind or dm me personally :)

I see nothing wrong with this idea but I to would agree with what Ivy said and think that should be looked into a bit before going forward to figure out exactly how the relationship would be and if it would be better to have a small buffer zone between Morshu and Varitoa.

After a little bit of consideration, I think I will abandon my attempts for Morshu Land for the foreseeable future. Although I do think I might attempt an expansion across the Keelpijp one day, I don't think it will be in my best interest to do so atm. Instead, I think I will focus on my current location on the Northern side of the Keelpijp and possibly try to expand there rather than crossing the straight into Alharu. Thanks for all your suggestions. I will however, continue my plans for the Bogan Islands. And a possible future Keelpijp Agreement for free trade is still something I would like to explore in the future, especially after the whole Dolchland-Anglia conflict passes.
