Gaellicia Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) So after a discussion on Discord some of us came up with an idea. So the way Eurth works, there is not such a great disparity in power between nations as there is IRL. As a result we may as a community get to a point where we have more nations looking to produce naval and military equipment than there is existing producers in OTL, and thus a source of skins/reference images. To potentially head this off I figured it would be useful to have one central place to document IRL ships being used by Eurth players for reference images. That way players looking to produce their own ships will be able to see what is already in use. This can then help in making gameplay decisions, whether they want to buy, license, etc. an existing IC design or whether they want to introduce an untapped design. My idea for this thread is that here in this first post I'll make a table or list of some kind collecting all current tech. Post will be edited by myself or, if they like, moderators with edit ability as new ships get added. My hope for this thread is that it won't be just claiming ships and designs and such but also a discussion. A place for us to hash out/discuss Eurth naval architecture. We'll be able to trace design philosophies/characteristics across nations. Gaellicia Posted March 11, 2023 Author Posted March 11, 2023 To start us off I'll try and sort out existing designs. I believe @Seylos uses mostly modern British designs. Definitely the IRL Type 45 Destroyer. One of my ships shares the IRL SAMPSON multifunction radar with Seylos' Eclipse class. I'm tending to use a hodgepodge of other stuff. For older ships I'm looking to use mostly British stuff like the Type 82 and County Class destroyers, and the never built CVA-01 carrier. More modern stuff I'm tending to use is Dutch, Danish, and Finnish like the M Class frigate and Niels Juel corvette. @Aurivizh You figured out your naval vessels recently though I forget a lot of them. I know we agreed that we co developed the IRL Walrus class submarine. @Ahrana I believe you're looking at a hodgepodge of designs too, though I wanna say mostly Swedish? Correct me if I'm wrong. For TRIDENT designs it seems that @Ivericauses a variety of designs. German frigates, AEGIS destroyers and cruisers. American carriers (except the IRL Charles de Gaulle). @Gallambria You use a variety of IRL British and commonwealth designs, especially Australia and New Zealand right? @Orioni Looking at wiki, looks like you use mostly modern Japanese warships? Some Korean ships too I believe? With some others as well. @Tagmatium Rules We just discussed on Discord the idea of you using mostly IRL French warships. If you still want to do that then it might work out nicely to have Adaptus use some Italian ships as IRL those two nations share a lot of naval tech. Also we talked about how you and Adaptus both use the Gerald Ford class carrier design. I don't believe anyone currently uses Chinese naval vessels nor have most Russian ships been sorted yet. I was thinking Chinese vessels might be a good fit for a villain NPC nation. Anglia? Volsci? A future villain that emerges from the ashes of the Grand War? They are very sleek and clean looking ships which to me could give them a powerful/villain quality. 2

As stated on Discord, I'll probably be using French ships in the main, with the Greek missile boats to fill the holes in my roster. Along with one or two submarine types and corvettes, of which there will be several types, as much of the Tagmatine navy is built towards coastal defence and control of the close waters of the Central Europan Seas. I also need something for the Protosebastos-class guided missile cruisers and something else for the Limanion class. The latter is noted as a CVL but is probably an amphibious assault ship or helicopter carrier and I've dithered over the sort. It was to be a hybrid ship but that's probably silly. I see Gal's already got the Mistral. The Protathlites tou Khristou class (Maximus in Adapton service) aircraft carrier is represented by the Gerald R Ford class.

For your CVL/Amphibious Assault Ship I could see a couple of ideas. You could use the Italian San Giorgio class. They are true landing support ships with aviation facilities only for helicopters. Or you could use Spain's Juan Carlos I class. It can do both roles. Not sure how well but it has a well deck for amphibious ops and a ski jump for STOVL flight ops (with harriers and F35Bs). Not certain but I think they can unload most of the amphibious landing craft/equipment to create extra storage space to be better at light carrier duties. IRL Australia has a version of this ship for its Canberra class ships but I think Gallambria licensed the Mistral class from Ivy so I think it's free. Lastly, you could look at the Principe de Asturias class, also from Spain. Truly a light carrier though perhaps you could use it as a skin if really dedicated to the hybrid role. For your cruiser, the first idea that comes to mind would be the Ticonderoga class. They are old though so if you're after something more modern then I'd have to think/look further. Otherwise you could use one of those old US Nuclear cruiser designs designs but again they might be too old. That said, age might only be really immediately apparent to naval nerds. I was thinking of the Ticonderoga but I wasn't sure if anyone had claimed it. Age matters a bit less - I've been using a split in the names of my ship classes. Secular (such as Limanion "Port" named for the major ports of Tagmatium) ones represent ships commissioned prior to 2000 under the Rule of the Admirals and ones with religious names are ones commissioned post 2000 under the Theodosios/Kommodos regime. "Protosebastos" would be the former, and named for leading historic figures who attained that as a title for heroic or famous deeds. 1

Haruspex Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) Whatever's been listed forever in HIA is what I've been using as naval surface vessels, and I'm not sure what country the images came from.
