GrecianJorge Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Nation on Eurth: Maritime Federation of Porto Greco National Flag: Capital Name: Porto Greco Capital Location: Starter Stats: Population: 1 point (medium) Economy: 2 points (high) Land: 1 point (medium) Culture: Pseudo-Venetian culture with a very big emphasis on individualism, even moreso than IRL venice Climate & Geography: Hot Semi-arid (BSh), Hot Desert (BWh), Tropical Rainforest (Af). Porto Greco's territory is very disparate and spread out, allowing different climates and conditions in general History: Porto Greco's origins remount to the discovery of the New Wurld, specifically in Alharu in western Eurth; this period was subsequently followed by a boom in trans-adlantic trade between the old Europan powers and the new settlements and colonies that were being created. The New Wurld and its promising potential encouraged sizeable groups of Mantellan and Tagmatine aristocrats and wealthy tradesmen to inmigrate into the general region, creating and expanding various settlements dedicated to commerce and trade. Porto Greco quickly flourished as a trading center and a premier stop-over point for trans-adlantic ships, thus quickly catapulting Porto Greco into a prolonged period of economic prosperity and social stability even amidst sharp ethnic divisions among the populations that comprised the territory of what was known at the time as the Serene New wurld Corporation. Further, the increased volume of trade was met by the Corporation with a flurry of eastward expansions, ultimately culminating in the occupation and annexation of the territories that would be incorporated as the region of Benedetti. This annexation expanded Porto Greco's economic might and ship-building capabilities, and cemented its position as a solid middle power that due to its privileged position acumulated power in the Messothalasan region and was able to engage in covert activities elsewhere. Modern Porto Grecan history begins with the promulgation of the 1871 Taddonio charter, which among other aspects established the Maritime Federation of Porto Greco as a modern republic and stripped power away from the Serene New wurld Corporation. A holdover from the nation's corporate past, Gemiliano Taddonio (who also promulgated the epynomous charter), member of the Supreme Reunion, with support of 4 of the 9 members of the body, introduced a sweeping series of political and economic changes aimed towards the abandonment of mercantilism and advancement of liberalism. The country entered the twentieth century in a period of relative but fragile stability; it was during this time that regionalism and factionalism would begin to play a key role in national politics as well. However, it was also a period of unprecedented economic growth aided by the country's entry into the industrialization process. Porto Greco entered the 21st century facing several unique challenges; decreases in international trade, less ships using Porto Greco as a stop-over point in comparison to other periods throughout the country's history and domestic opposition to tourism all caused Porto Greco's GDP to shrink by 6% from 1997 to 2007. The latter year would also initiate a further decline of Porto Greco both politically and economically; the 2007 Riva Moneta crisis, among high-profile cases of state censorship and suppression of various movements, significantly decreased international trust on Porto Greco, all causing the economy to further shrink by 4%. Xio Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Congratulations on passing the academy, time for the last hurdle: figuring out where you go on the map. Points are good, they add up to ≤4 points. You would have a land area range of 90,000km^2 - <260,000km^2. Your history matches up well with your desired culture in your desired location. Regarding your desired shape of your country, due to the points requested and overall realism (how were some of these really thin coastal territories maintained into the 21st century?) the number of distinct exclaves would have to be consolidated, however we can try to accommodate for the 9 members. Below I have selected 4 areas which I think could fit your country, please choose the one (or none) that you feel is the best for your nation, then we can discuss the finer details such as city placement and border tweaks on Discord or in the Forum messaging system.1. Unnamed Bay At 258,400km^2, this is a consolidating form of your desired locations. There are only 6 regions (counting islands) but I'm sure you can have some of the larger parts be divided. It's a bit sheltered away as well, considering nations like Kertosono and Kharai exist. Still, I think it's quite a fun distribution of states. The climate would be almost entirely tropical savannah with the southern most member bordering Eulycea being between a third to a half desert, primarily in the east. Another benefit, seeing how the bay is unnamed, you can help name it! Perhaps the Serene Bay, after your old colonial company>2. Adisi Ocean Coming in at 251,000km^2, this area is more open and is at the tripoint of Aurelia, Marenesiam, and Alharu. The climate is entirely tropical savannah with a very steady temperature due to the moderation of the sea, however expect a lot of tropical storms / cyclones due to the open ocean and proximity to the equator.3. Synthe Sea Directly in the passage between Alharu and Aurelia, this proposal comes out at 258,200km^2 and stretches across the Synthe Sea. The climate is, once again, mostly tropical savannah however the northernmost member is a humid subtropical climate with dry winters and the westernmost member bordering Kertosono possessing a strong monsoon climate.4. Turtle Sea Lastly, at 255,900km^2, are three big regions in a triangular fashion around the gateway between the Turtle Sea and the Synthe Sea, dropping you right in the middle of Alharun politics. All once again tropical savannah except for some strong monsoon climate along the eastern coast of the westernmost area. 5

Xio Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 (edited) Alrighty, all you need is consent from @Kertosono, @Fubukino (Fubukino is the main owner of the Anglian Mesothalassa colony), @Ngoc Luat, and @Kharai. They will have a week to provide consent (22/06/28) otherwise consent will be assumed. Edited June 21, 2022 by Xio (see edit history) 3
Kertosono Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Nice, welcome to eastern Alharu. The trading empire thing makes sense since during your so-called "golden eras" of being a trading hub, Kertosono was pretty much closed off for various reasons. I have several questions: 1. When do you imagine old wurld powers first setting sail and landing on Porto Greco? 2. What ethnic groups/cultures were present in Porto Greco before the arrival of old wurld powers? 3. Where are you going to place your capital? Thanks, and good luck 3

It wasn't a nation who set sail and landed on Porto Greco, those first groups that arrived were rich and crazy aristocrats from Mantella (1650-1700) and later on southern Tagmatines 2. As for the pre-coloniation ethnic groups, I don't have that completely figured out; my focus and ideas have mostly been on post-contact history 3. 4

If you need help deciding, Kertosono is Javanese, so you're likely to find other Malayo-Polynesian cultures in the area. Below is a map of all 'Boreaurelian' Cultures on Eurth thus far) And the large island where Kharai, Ngoc Luat, and Rhava is largely South-East Asia. Here's the map to these cultures, grouped together as 'Synthic': Lastly, Mesothalassa is our Andes+Mesoamerica analogue region, there isn't currently a map for this though. The cultures near Eulycea are Andean though. 5
