February 2022 Eurth community census

Recently, we ran a community census. The goal was to find out more about the people we spend so much time with here on Eurth.

The deadline to complete this census has passed, and the form was automatically locked for any new entries. (We may repeat this census again the future.)

 

Results

Those of you who took the time to answer are probably very interested to find out more about the results. So, let's dive into each of the 5 chapters, and find out more about what the Eurth community looks like in early 2022.

 

Demographic information

• Most of our members are 18 years old or older. A small minority is younger, but not below the age limit.
• Roughly 85% identify as male, 10% as female, and 5% as non-binary.
• 60% claims to be single, and 40% has a partner or is in a complicated situation. 4 members are married.

  

 

Cultural information

• Exactly 1/2 of our members are originally from the United States. This also means the other 50% are from all over the world.
• A little over 70% of members currently reside in the United States or United Kingdom.
• Since this is an English writing forum, it'll as no surprise that 3/4 have English as their first language.
• Many people also speak a second, third, and even fourth language. One member even listed six languages.

 

 

 

Socio-economic information

• Roughly 1/2 of our members are students.
• The majority of members (60%) has a job, either full-time, part-time or as an employed student. One person is currently unemployed.
• We refrained from constructing a vague political spectrum or left versus right. In stead, two questions helped us map the political compass of our members on two axes.
• The average member is scored 5,8 on the societal and 5,6 on the political scales. (Indicated by the star.)

 

 

Eurth Worldbuilding & RP Community

• 56% of member joined more than a year ago. Everyone else is relatively new. We know this is pretty normal for an online community.
• Most of you are happy with our all-volunteer staff. The average rating is 8,8/10 and the median is 9/10. Obviously, some of our staff have given themselves perfect grades, for which they will be whacked with a wet trout.
• When asked about the main interests that drew you to Eurth, the most popular themes (>50%) were:
  • 82% — Worldbuilding (IIWiki)
  • 73% — Role-playing (forum)
  • 73% — Community and friendship
  • 70% — Politics and diplomacy
  • 52% — Graphic design (maps, flags)
  • 52% — Character development
  • This may mean we focus more on these popular themes, or figure out a way to improve the less popular themes.
• We also asked if you have any RP ideas: "Do you have any ideas for future community RP events or competitions?"  The ideas and suggestions were really quite interesting. (See the source list below for all suggested ideas.) Several of them were mentioned multiple times:
  • Eurth (Winter) Olympics
  • Space, aliens, a multiverse
  • Economic crisis and collapse
