Eurth is a veritable paradise, a mix and match of the most exotic and mundane nations, creatures and characters one could imagine. From the deep depths of the Adlantic Ocean to the neutral waters of the Keelpijppassage, from the temperamental people of Argis to the relaxed islanders of Marenesia, there is something to enjoy and partake in. Take a seat, young padawan student and let your good old Uncle V tell you what's what. Europa is a long-standing region with a history of role-playing that dates back more than a decade. As part of that legacy and as part of the great renaissance of the region, we like to ensure that our members know what's what. No one expects you to be a full-blown novelist but, like most wonderful things, we do have an 'entry fee' of sorts. Other regions may call it a sign-up thread, some might use invitation only, others call it vetting, here it is the Academy. Now, the Academy's purpose is three-fold. It serves as a place to separate the threads you'll make that are not (yet, perhaps) part of the canon and those that are. It serves to get to know you and your RP and see if you are a good fit for the region and community, personality-wise and quality-wise. And lastly, it serves as a place where we can help those that might not yet reach the standards that we want for the region, but that are willing to grow, willing to learn and fit into the community. Our Academy is thus, in a way, far more lenient than a regular sign-up thread, where others will only take one look and judge you. "As Monitor Ga'ames death was announced, all of Daamur is a halt. Stores in Illain are closed, people are out from work, and children are out of school. His coffin is to be transported across all 27 states of Daamur, to then receive rites from the head of the Inmuli Church in Northern Bastionwest. After his rites, his funeral will proceed and he will be buried at the "Hall of the Honourable" where previous leaders of the Czechowitz have been buried for centuries. Now, with his death, comes need for a leader, and that has been announced to be Kriista - Now Monitor Kriista - the close friend, and the secondhand leader of Ga'ames political troupe - The XC - or the Xeiien Conference. The total warfare has left the country devastated and technologically backwards. However, the war is coming to a close. The United Peoples Front of Adrashan is right on the edge of victory with the Coalition capital in sight. The future still remains uncertain though, as the High Commanders Health is quickly failing and without him to hold the revolution together, sectarian divisions might reignite and plunge the country into further internal strife. Do you have an IIWiki page?: No WRITING EXPERIENCE How would you describe your level of experience in regards to roleplaying?- I would consider myself fairly experienced, i have participated in, moderated, and created several roleplays in a multitude of styles and settings. How would you describe yourself?- I consider myself to be fairly reasonable and willing to try out new concepts but i am a passionate writer when in comes to roleplay but a heavy procrastinator (which is why writing 1 and a half major factbooks took me three days) However, if i get truly involved in a project i can easily devote larger amounts of time and energy into it. I can also be a bit confrontational at times. RP/Writing samples (if available already): THE QUESTION OF LEADERSHIP For 35 years Yosef had lead the revolution. From the founding of the Adrashanii Popular Movement in 1984, to the Tychu riots in '89, Yosef Polk had always fought to advance the interest of the working class. He was of course, the man who kickstarted the Adrashanii civil war. He had lead the Popular Front from the cobblestone streets and salty breeze of Xoxa to the ancient and awe-inspiring walls of Tryi. Now, after 7 years he and the Popular Front stand on the precipice of victory, the liberation of the Adrashanii working class. However, Polk knew that he would never live to see it. He had been battling an advanced stage of brain cancer for 4 years and he knew that it was quickly getting the better of him. But the one thing more painful to him than the cancer was having to watch the movement he created tear itself apart while being powerless to stop it. THe Popular Front used to be united, they had to be. There was no time for sectarianism while war raged on. However, being so close to victory and the disclosure of Polk's condition has reignited old tensions and began a debate on who shall be Polk's successor. Although there are four major factions that make up the U.P.F.A, only the Vanguardists and Confederalists have the power to take control. It is a funny act of fate that the two strongest are the ones at odds with each other. 15th Meeting of the Peoples Assemblies, March 4th 2019 "Who will be your successor?" It was Jyhan Kai, the leader of the Unionists who had raised the question. It had come right after Polk's announcement that he will be resigning from party leadership in one months time. It was a question that although seeming simple, drew the room into a deep silence with anticipation. Polk had the appearance of confidence, and before he had entered the assembly his choice was the Confederalists, but now it was evident that Polk had no idea. His own personal beliefs borrowed from both the Vanguardists and the Confederalists, and even if he did choose one, it would still be contended by the other. His only option was to wait, to listen, and to think. He would make plans to meet and discuss with leaders of older, and stronger socialist states. But for now....... "This is not an easy decision, and until it is made i want to ask all of you to discuss what i have suggested, one party does not need to rule, if we have any hope of transitioning power peacefully and with stability, a government based on concession is the only way to do it." Ruled by the Monarch as the head of the state, and the Archpriest as the head of the religion. Although since the rule of Ometecutli, both roles were merged into the Archpriest. Giving the leader both power of the state and religion. Which over many centuries, became one and the same. Culture/ethnicity of your nation: Mētztlitlalio has two main ethnic groups; the Totasazlo, and the Karisazlo. The Karisazlo have rustic light brown skin tone usually with black hair, on average around 6’2’’ in height. With the Totasazlo, having dustier, light grey-brown skin and a dark mud brown hair, and around 5’1’’. Although due to constant contact, the differences between the two groups are more of a gradient then completely split. When it comes to Culture, both share the same "Azlo" Culture and religion. Azlo has many similarities to the Mexica/Aztec and Modern Day Mexican Culture. Give us a short description of your nation: Mētztlitlalio for centuries has been an isolationist state within the mountains and was only really known by their neighbours to have ever existed. Only with the arrival of the modern era and globalisation was Metztli forced to confront the outside world. Although they generally regard outsiders with a lack of trust, foreign business and trade make them overlook the xenophobia rooted deeply within their culture. Brutalist architecture distorted by Mesoamerican Influence is commonplace coloured in crimsons, magentas, greens, reds, blacks, and streaked with enough gold that would make El Dorado blush. Crescent Birds (Metztlitototl) can be seen often at temples or at people's homes as a domesticated guard animal, a silver white bird with the form of a Cassowary and peacock feathers, a blue-tinted grey casque sits on the bird's head in the shape of a lunar crescent. Mētztlitlalio's largest exports would be metals and minerals from it's mountains, destroying the very lands that protected The Dominion for centuries for it's own greedy ventures. But below I'll write a small extract of "The Brother's Conflict", when the Totasazlo and Karisazlo had their final battle:Ometecutli craned his masked head to the view the bloody spectacle in all of it's morbid glory. The raised ledge gave Omet a clear view of the battle that was taking place below him. Battle Drums from both sides played the same war songs in unison, the very songs they had practised to use against the enemies below the mountains, now beat a distorted echoing tune, like children who played with the instruments carelessly. For they were children at this moment, for their disunity brings carelessness to the defences around the mountain ranges. Omet knew if this battle did not end soon, the drums' rhythms would become powerful enough to make the ground itself shake like a bell and alert their enemies to the disunity. He was the rightful Monarch and Archpriest, the Gods had shown that. But they had not shown this to his people. That was his job. Two Brothers Fighting. Two War Drum Armies. Two Hours to end this bloodshed before the more ancient rivals of his people begun to claw at the flesh of the Crescent Empire. Hoffman has been very helpful NATIONSTATES Why do you want to join this region?: Hoffman showed me this region, and the dedication I could see when I joined to check it out was very clear. All the regions I had been in so far where empty and the owners of them apathetic. I could tell there was a real sense of community to this region. And after being in a feeder nation for so long after many failed attempts at joining regions. It would be nice to finally be part of a new, proper community. Several district leaders, called "Directors," rule their districts as if an absolute monarch, as that has been the system ever since the country was founded in the 1920s. The central government is trying to change that by using force and coercion while trying to keep Fenarr up to par with other nations of the world. Starting off as simply a safe place to call home, the capital Fieding an der Telga swiftly became something much larger than any of them could have expected. Over the years, Rallingen has grown into a fully fledged democracy with elections held every 4 years for the president and chancellor and every 5 years for the federal assembly. Give us a short description of your nation: Altegonnia is a nation new to stability with a long history of civil conflict. Ideological differences between opposing groups flared into a fifty year long civil war that only ended a decade ago at the hands of a determined military. However after victory the military did not hand power back over to the civilian government, but instead reformed a new government in which the military itself holds a strong hold on political power, leading most to find the democratic aspects of the new government to be a farce. The violence from yesterday's riots has left thousands injured within Gida and the Parliament does not, unfortunately, have the physical resources to treat all of them, including those with life-threatening injuries. This is a humble request from ourselves to you- we require medical assistance in the form of medicine, especially painkillers, bandages and other supplies, but most importantly, medical professionals. Gida International Airport remains open, as does its port facilities. Starting as a mere extension of the Aroman Empire, to establishing the first national Vilicus, nearly becoming a theocracy, and steadily introducing more and more democratic elements to the system. The modern government of Creaturae consists of one Vilicus, [#] Principes Provinciae (number will be updated after location is decided and provinces are drawn), and several dozens of lesser Ambactuses. The Ambasctuses are not represented in higher government and cannot create laws or officially voice their opinion on anything political. Their only obligation is to collect the taxes of the people and carry out that which the Principes Provinciae and Vilicus have decided. This is the basics of what the government is like, though I do realize a few details are missing, such as justice system and the specific duties of the Vilicus and Principes. If those are needed, please let me know (though I will 100% be going over them in the factbook I eventually write up). Culture / Ethnicity: The majority of Advenae are descendants of or are somehow related to the original colonists from Aroma. Therefore, they share many cultural and ethnic similarites. For example, they both share olive-colored skin and dark hair and eyes. The major religion in Creaturae is a RL variant of Roman Mythology. While it is the major religion of the nation, it is not practiced the same as it used to be. Blood sacrifices have fallen out of style, though some cities do still hold animal sacrifices on ancient holidays as a tourist draw. Short Description: Creaturae is a former colony of Aroma, sharing many cultural and societal similarities. The two are still quite distinct from one another, however, as the expensive and grandiose marble buildings were not practical to build. Instead, buildings made from the local rocks and wood. Though the buildings don't match the look of the Aroman ruins, the architecture and remnants of the culture are enough to bring tourists from around the world to their oldest cities. WRITING EXPERIENCE RP Experience: I've always had a passion for writing and making stories, I even wanted to grow up and become a professional writer. When I was just a little kid, I used to roleplay on Roblox, as cringy as it sounds. After a few years of that, I eventually found myself in the Undertale RP and NationStates communities and my ability to describe my thoughts and ideas began to mature. I've spent about 3 years of free time roleplaying as either individual characters (UT + NS) or news agencies / governments (NS). Writing Samples: I didn't have one I could easily access, so I thought it'd be best to write up something with (Flavius) Sanguine Valerius—the current Vilicus. Spoiler [16th of September, 1997 - Confugerunt, Creaturae] [2:23 PM] Flavius stood motionless inside a hallway, with the curtained exit about a yard away from him, with his eyes closed and his breathing slow. He was dressed up in the ceremonial robes and ornaments of the past Vilici; a white toga with purple and yellow sashes, a silver ring embedded with a supposedly blessed ruby, and a golden laurel wreath. Flavius had been standing here, attempting to soothe his nerves, for the last couple minutes. He couldn't help it, this ceremony mean the start of his new position of power. Years of "My Vilicus, are you well?" One of the young volunteers had walked up behind Flavius, speaking up with a concerned voice. Flavius did not turn around but responded to ensure that the—Flavius assumed was a young boy of just pubescent age—wouldn't worry and call for someone else. "Yes, just my nerves getting the better of me... It's silly. I am about to be inaugurated as the nation's Vilicus, after years of laboring for this title. You would think I'd be overjoyed." He may have said a bit too much. Flavius sighed, looking up to the decorated ceiling, portraying major events in the history of Creaturae. The one that caught his eye depicting the initial voyage over the sea to Argis. He studied it for a moment, losing himself in the details and imagining what it would be like to be one of those first Advenae. "Do you think that is how the first settlers of our nation felt? Unsure of themselves and their abilities?" Flavius reached up to his head, taking off his ceremonial laurel wreath. He opened his eyes and brought it down to reflect with it. There was silence between the two for a moment, though Flavius could hear the boy rhythmically tapping against something hard. A clipboard perhaps? It didn't matter. As he thought about this and those original Advenae, the boy spoke up again. "I'm almost certain they did. It's only natural to be anxious when faced with a situation such as that." The boy put a hand on Flavius' shoulder. This startled him somewhat, but he didn't have a moment to process it before he spoke up again. "Do not worry yourself, my Vilicus. It was a cheap knickknack watch, each number represented by an Aroman numeral; generally something a tourist would buy and wear. "Twenty-eight past two, my Vilicus." "Thank you once again, Leonius. It is almost time for the ceremony and I must prepare." Flavius put the wreath back atop his head, more certain of himself. He walked around the boy, away from the curtain, and towards one of the doors down the hallway. His toga dragged behind him against the floor. Leonius stood still and turned to keep watch of his soon-to-be Vilicus. I would also like a mentor, if it's no trouble, for nation writing. I have some experience with nation-building and writing things up as a government / news agency, but I am much more experienced with character writing. NATIONSTATES Reason for joining: I added this region to my dossier while looking for potential RP regions. The amount of detail in the worldbuilding impressed me. So, for reasons I don't want to get into, I have tons of free time and looked back to NationStates to be the time vacuum I needed. I remembered Eurth / Europa and decided to try and join. Summary of my NationStates experience: I first discovered NationStates about 2 years ago, when my writing / roleplaying experience wasn't anywhere near what it was today. I stayed and roleplayed in what I can only describe as a low-effort RP post-modern region. After an extended break from the site and community, I returned for a month or two and dabbled in several different RP genres. Past Tech, Fantasy Tech, FTL. With harbors and bays locked in ice in the deep winter, towering peaks bathed in snow, and a vast plain on the far side of the mountains coast, Stalgora has developed into a nation unique to its topography and resources. The coast is doted with towns and moderate cities with the crowning jewel and capital - Havgard - siting at the heart of a large ocean bay. Here, the majority of Stalgoran shipping and industry finds its home, though another major city - Novenhjell - competes for the prize. Stalgorans are fairly welcoming and ethnically diverse with a growing population flocking to the cities. However, as the population grows, the pastoral lands opposite the mountain range have become more important, feeding larger public works projects to keep them irrigated and healthy. With a neo socialist government and a strong nationalistic pride, Stalgorans can be somewhat prideful when it comes to their national heritage; and have never feigned from a fight. Roleplay Experience: I have been roleplaying off and on for over 12 years. I have ran science fiction and fantasy roleplays and even my own nation building community. I world build frequently, and write hard science fiction as a pass time. Myself: I am a self prescribed creative with a penchant for the details. I love to world build and can get fairly creative in my explanations of both the how and the why. I try to put detail behind all elements of my world building, and tend to (occasionally) get lost in the weeds though I tend to find my way back. Traditionalist both in the sense that many ancient institutions remain in place, resembling an early modern setting, and in a cultural sense. The nation is headed by a Prince, a figure that still reserves some constitutional powers to itself. The Lopan economy is that of a somewhat free market economy, inspired on the values of liberalism and voluntarism.
