Acadia Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Nation in Europa: Aanbreck Aurora Flag: Capital Name: Auvergne Capital Location: Island along a harbor (see map) Factbook Link: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Acadia Newsroom Link: Culture: The culture of Acadia is mostly derived from French (Lysian) culture, however is unique in that it has some elements incorporated from the Navajo/Pueblo (Diné). This is similar to South or Central America, where the indigenous culture is still prevalent in the modern culture. IRL Mexico is like this in that, though it is very much a full-blown Latin American, Spanish nation, it still incorporates the culture and even names from Mesoamerican cultures like the Aztecs and Mayans. Climate: The climate is more or less similar to the dry deserts in the IRL Southwest (US), though on île d'Alquière and Nouvelle Normandie climates are more similar to grasslands or plains. If possible, the coastal portions of Acadia could be slightly less desert and more mountainous than the rest of the nation (similar to what happens in IRL California compared to the Sonora and Mojave Deserts just nearby). Perhaps something like this could be explained through the rain shadow effect, though I'm not quite sure the location will help hold up that explanation. Location: The Western coast of central Aurelia: (Excuse me for the crude quality of the map) History: 700 CE - First Human Settlement by the Diné people. 800 CE - Tribes united into Diné Confederation, lasting all but 50 years until its collapse. 800-1300 CE - "Dinese Isolation" period of development in tribes and relative peace. 1332 CE - Union of tribes and city-states into the Dinénahasdzáán Empire. 1638 CE - Founding of L'Aracdie and colonization of modern-day Arcadia/Arcadie. 1640-1680 CE - Conquête Intérieure (Interior Conquest) of Diné lands leading to the collapse of the Dinénahasdzáán Empire. This paves the way for the establishment of the Acadie (Acadia), Nouvelle Normandie (New Normandy), and Nouvelle Lys (New Lys) colonies, all eventually becoming part of the Acadia colony. 1759 CE - Revolution against Lysian rule, ending in an Acadian victory. 1803 CE - Incorporation into Shffahkian Empire. 1834 CE - Acadia declares independence from Shffahkia and declares the United States of Acadia, contributing to the collapse of the Shffahkian Empire. 1849 CE - Acadia is annexed into Shffahkia once again. 1895-1899 CE - Tensions between Acadians and Shffahkians reach new heights, leading to the conflict known as the Shffahko-Acadian Civil War. This conflict contributed, once again, to the collapse of the Shffahkians, this time to the First Shffahko Republic, and also contributed to the rise of the Collectivists in the state. 6
Tagmatium Rules Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Have you spoken much to @Shffahkia about this? I kind of assume you have, with the significant references to his nation in your timeline and history. I would suggest that your initial map claim might be a bit too big, as a starting claim. I'd suggest one of these two instead. A. B. Please assume the crappy red lines follow your drawn borders. 3

You assumed correctly, I've spoken with them before about combining our histories so that they can fit as pieces in Eurth's history puzzle. 1 hour ago, Tagmatium Rules said: I would suggest that your initial map claim might be a bit too big, as a starting claim. If it isn't possible, I would rather have B, as it is much closer to me and was one of the original three colonies (New Normandy). 3

That's fair. The island can represent a future expansion, and a rework of the islands off of Aurelia and Thalassa is being considered. That might have had an impact on the islands you have an eye on in the future. Please look at this link to see the ideas being knocked around. 3
Variota Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Hi! I've asked around and it seems that none of our mentors or mods have shared our balance sheet with you yet! The balance sheet has been thought up to allow every new player to get a fair chance while also ensuring that it remains fair and interesting for everyone. It's a bit of a read but it tells you exactly why, what and how. Please read it through and let me know through Discord PM or PM here on the forums about your decision in regards to point distribution, as it'll impact the amount of land, population and GDP per capita you'll be able to take! Should you have any questions, please first read the FAQ located in the document. Should your question not be answered by them, feel free to PM me either here or on Discord and I'll do my best to aid you. Balance sheet & info 3
Orioni Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Hi there @Acadia. Could you please follow-up on the above questions? Once that's taken care of I can draw you on the map. 1
Acadia Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) So, here are my stats for the balance sheet: Nation Name: Acadia Population: 32.7 million (1) GDP per capita: 15,000 USD (1) Area: 300,000 km^2 (2) To get the area down to be able to achieve the other stats, I will have to cut off my island (Ile d'Alquiere) and the other piece of land across the bay/strait (New Normandy). This brings me to the mainland, which is 316,000 km^2. Still too big. I decided to get rid of the Northeast corner of my claim, and I don't really care what the border changes to look like, just as long as that corner gets cut off in a 16k km^2 fashion. I would like this area to be labeled the "Diné Republic" if possible. Thank you in advance! Edited March 30, 2020 by Acadia (see edit history) 4
Variota Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Hi Acadia, As mentioned on Discord and within the balance sheet itself, the total amount of points is 4, not 5. Please rework your statistics so it works with the allocated 4 points. 1
Acadia Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 Sorry, I meant to have my population at 1, not 2, I was just looking at my wiki page. 4
Orioni Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Fair play. I can work with that. Looks like @Shffahkia is getting a new neighbour. Sad that it stomps out his dream of A Mari Usque Ad Mare. I expect some RP animosity about that. That'll be interesting. 2
