Matäa Ëgläšëas Killed in Shooting

A shooting has occured this morning in the offices of Tëæra Naŕanya Socialist Party leader Matäa Ëgläšëas, killing her along with 7 others.

A Socialist Party spokesperson described Mrs. Ëgläšëas as 'a great leader' who will be 'truly missed'.

The attack was believed to have been motivated by right-wing extremists, and has been condemned by political leaders from across the spectrum.

The President, along with the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, has taken part an emergency meeting to asses the terror threat in Agarntrop and the appropriate course of action to take from now on.

The President described the attack as 'appaling and disgraceful'. The Conservative Naŕanyan Chief of State, Pablö Tanpa, described it as 'horrendous and shocking' in an address he made shortly after Ms. Ëgläšëas's death was confirmed.

A suspect has been arrested by Naŕanyan police on 8 counts of Class A Murder, 1 count of aggravated burglary, and 1 count of unlawful possesion of a firearm.

Ëgläšëas Suspect Identified

Pedrö Abascal, 38, has been identified as the suspect for the murder of Matäa Ëgläšëas in a shooting attack yesterday.

Seen in this picture, Abascal has been the member of several far-right organisations including the FNA, which have an Elder and six Representatives in the Agarn Legislature, and twelve seats in the unicameral Naŕanyan Parliament.

However, the FNA have since said in a statement that they 'completely reject' the murder and that 'Abascal should have a quick trial and if found guilty he should be shot at dawn, that's our view of justice.'

Abascal is expected to be denied bail due to the seriousness of his alleged crime and so is expected to be held at a reprimand centre until his trial takes place.

Proposal legalising same-sex marriage signed into law by Chief of State in North Agarntrop

Liberal Chief of State Marëa Erehon has signed into law that makes same-sex marriage a legal right across North Agarntrop.

The law follows a referendum last year that removed the constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in the state.

The law brings to an end more than a decade of bitter debate on the issue.

Erehon said the law was a "victory for North Agarntrop".

"When all North Agarns are treated as equal, we are all more free," she said.

However, the North Agarntrop conservative party condemned the law. Their leader claimed it "ignored the voices of thousands of North Agarns."

The first state to allow same-sex marriage was Agarntrop City, which granted the right in 2009.

In recent years, a wave of legal rulings and a dramatic shift in public opinion have expanded gay marriage in Agarntrop.

However, despite civil unions with equal rights to marriage being introduced in 2012, federal law still defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

Ëgläšëas Murderer sentenced to life imprisonment without parole

An extreme rightwing terrorist has been sentenced to prison for the rest of his life for the murder of the Tëæra Naŕanya Socialist Party leader Matäa Ëgläšëas and seven others after a seven-day trial in which he made no effort to defend himself.

Pedrö Abascal broke into the Socialist Party offices and shot Ëgläšëas along with several others with a semi-automatic rifle in an attack in last November. During the shooting he was saying: “This is for Agarntrop”, “keep Agarntrop independent”, and “Agarntrop first”, the court heard.

As the murder was an ideologically motivated assasination, it was classified as a 'Class A Murder,' for which life imprisonment without parole has been the mandatory sentence in the state of Tëæra Naŕanya since the invalidation of the death penalty by the Agarn Supreme Court in 2008.

The presiding chief justice refused Abascal’s request to address the court, saying he had already had opportunities to explain himself, and had not done so.
