Friends, Europans, countrymen, lend me your ears.

It's been a very busy year for all of us. This community we all share has evolved into a place where good writing and shared amusement is valued and appreciated. Not a day goes by without something fresh to read. If you ever feel like it's becoming a problem to read everything, know that's you're not alone. We've really stepped up our game here. Massive thank you to all of you!

And this December, to finish the year on a high, we'll collect those stories that made us laugh and cry the most. As @Iverica wrote so eloquently last year: "What better way to cap off the year, than with Europan democracy bluntly dictating standards to rub in your face!"

Nominations

This year we'd like to do this a little differently and open up the list to public nominations. So you can tell everyone about that great story you wrote that went underappreciated. You can nominate more than one. Here are the categories we'll re-use. There are also two new ones: about culture/sports, and about our most promising new member.

  1. [Pax Eurthica] Which nation is the most peace-loving nation in the region?
  2. [Big Stick Dick] Which nation do you think is likely to declare war on you at the drop of a pin?
  3. [The Pushitzer Prize] Which news agency have you found to be the most realistic?
  4. [Bron Urgundy Award] Which news agency do you get the most giggles out of?
  5. [Fully-Diplomatic] Which well-written diplomatic event do you think has made a significant impression on the world?
  6. [Business Cat] Which well-written event or series of events do you think has been the most significant in global trade?
  7. [Moving the Goalpost] Which well-written cultural or sports event do you think has been the most entertaining?
  8. [Leading the Green Scene] Which event or resolution do you think has had the best results for our environment?
  9. [Ms/Mr Congeniality] Which RP character do you find to be the most likeable?
  10. [Lex Loathor] Which RP character do you like the least?
  11. [Notable N00b] Which member that joined in 2018 deserves our special recognition?

Are you low on inspiration? Have a look at the topics in "Our picks". http://www.europans.com/ourpicks/

Timing

These are the steps we'll follow

  • 8-18 December (10 days): nominations are open
  • 19-29 December (10 days): voting on all nominations

  1. [Pax Eurthica] @Mauridiviah comes to mind. He isn't a zealous pacifist, but will defend himself if necessary. I don't think he is currently engaged in any active conflicts. My most recent memory would be his reply to the war in @North Dniester. Despite being aligned with one of the warring factions, he chose not to send any military aid and only sent relief to the local civilians.
  2. [Big Stick Dick] We very nearly came to blows with @Ahrana during the Verde Blockade. However, relations have gotten better on a faction-level thanks to @Prymont. I was certainly a little alarmed about a possible conflict with one of my eastern neighbors. Unfortunately @Poland-Lithuania quit the region, so I never quite got to see our relationship develop. @Derthalen is probably the go-to answer for me and a lot of others.
  3. [The Pushitzer Prize] @Iverica One. It was a tough choice between this and @Sunset Sea Islands's SSI NEWS. Iverica joined Europa on September 17th 2017 while I joined on August 30th, a few weeks earlier. I vaguely recall monkeying the styles of his- and @Prymont's news threads to figure out what I wanted to do. I guess you could say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but I'll let the quality of the imitation speak for itself. Take that as you may.
  4. [Bron Urgundy Award] Nasionale TeleSich @Variota. The headline picture in this post in particular.
  5. [Fully-Diplomatic] The founding of ATARA. Project Canamo and the subsequent annexation of the Hellenic Rus should get an honorary mention.
  6. [Business Cat] īģŋThe Manana League.
  7. [Moving the Goalpost] Eurthvision 2018.
  8. [Leading the Green Scene] īģŋThe Antargic Treaty is all I can really come up with on a global scale.
  9. [Ms/Mr Congeniality] @Ahrana Greggor Ivanoff. I'm not a very good character builder and I don't think I have ever been a huge fan of novels or media that deals with a lot of characters as opposed to the events as a whole. I very much prefer the writing of a history book to that of a novel. If that explains what I'm trying to say any better. Ivanoff just came into my head almost subconsciously. I admittedly don't know much about the man, but I recognize the name with the events that occurred around him.
  10. [Lex Loathor] īģŋīģŋ@Variota Dina Diva 😂.
  11. [Notable N00b] īģŋ@Rihan. Active and great member of our community. Silver would be @Mauridiviah and bronze would be @Fulgistan.

Only 5 more days until nominations end. If you think there are some topics or players that deserve to be nominated, feel free to add your choices. Right now this first round isn't about picking who you think deserves to win. That'll be decided by the votes. But first we need to collect some nominations. And you can include more than one choice.

  1. [Pax Eurthica] Certainly Andalla is a beacon of stability. As well as Oyus. And the SSI, despite being technocrazy, has yet to go to war with someone else.
  2. [Big Stick Dick] Adaptus is all too trigger-happy, and Variota keeps pushing arms into conflict regions all around the Eurth
  3. [The Pushitzer Prize] PNN (Prymont) and the Federal Herald (Girkmand) spring to mind.
  4. [Bron Urgundy Award] I remember laughing with the funny stuff on ABN (Andalla).
  5. [Fully-Diplomatic] Confederation of Independent Socialists: Founding Ceremony; and I'd dare to include the ATARA founding (December 2017); Mundus Liber Freedom Index and it's consequences (Mauridiviah); Letters from Het Huisselant (Variota).
  6. [Business Cat]  Morheim Trade & Industry Zone (Morheim); The hand that stabs you (Variota); Manamana League (various); anything Skandinavisk (Andalla).
  7. [Moving the Goalpost] EurthVision (Prymont); Coronation Celebration (Seylos); Protecting the Past, Securing the Future (Morheim); ANAFA 2018 (Rihan).
  8. [Leading the Green Scene] The stories from Antargic Adventures at Simon Station are fun to follow.
  9. [Ms/Mr Congeniality] I'm going to be bold and nominate my very own Sir Andrew Pipkin.
  10. [Lex Loathor] whoever is leading Ahrana Greggor Ivanoff (Ahrana); Abu Renard Redoine (Afropa); Jorge Washington (Enclave).
  11. [Notable N00b] In alphabetical order: Aluxia, Fulgistan, Kipan, Limonaia, Rihan, Seylos, Shffahkia.

1. [Pax Eurthica] There are a few of them but I think @Mauridiviah deserves this. Very few actions on Eurth don't earn a big Mads Frowny Face and I know Tagmatium has got more than a few. And I know we all await the next Mundus Liber survey with baited breath.

2. [Big Stick Dick] @Fulgistan. That may seem an odd one, since none of them have been declared wars, but there almost isn't a conflict they haven't got their perfidious, insidious tentacles into on a covert level. PryRus, North Dniester, Greater Serbia, Aluxia, themselves... Honestly, the Workers' Republic is probably one of the biggest threats to world peace right now but no one actually seems to realise it.

3. [The Pushitzer Prize] Whether or not realistic, it has certainly been @Girkmands one that I've enjoyed reading the most recently. There are a few others that are pretty much as good, so I'll give @Shffahkia at least an honourable mention.

4. [Bron Urgundy Award] I think everyone knows who the two main contenders for this prize are. I'm going to vote for @Orioni and his BS News Channel. Sorry, @Variota!

5. [Fully-Diplomatic] Oof. A lot of diplomacy seems to be going on between just two nations at any one time, so this is probably a difficult one to genuinely choose from. I think that both @Ahrana and @Rihan have been pursuing diplomatic solutions with many nations and it seems that Ahrana is the most prolific over it. So I'll vote for Ahrana and my apologies to Rihan.

6. [Business Cat] It isn't a category that I really follow, I'll admit, but it does seem that @Morheim's recent topic has got a lot of attention. Even I considered getting in on it!

7. [Moving the Goalpost] Again, not a category that I follow, but Rihan seems to be hitting this pretty hard, with football winding down and even pushing for an Olympic event.

8. [Leading the Green Scene] I'm not sure that there has been one. Certainly, a lot of government are pursuing environmental technology or polices – both @Gallambria and my own nation spring to mind on that front but a lot of it has been expressed through news posts and not an actual topic or meeting taking place on this. I'm going to leave this one blank and maybe it will be an initiative we can pursue next year.

9. [Ms/Mr Congeniality] Aidan, King of @Seylos. Unlike most monarchs or leaders in Europa, he doesn't seem to be an authoritarian dickhead but actually quite likeable on a personal level.

10. [Lex Loathor] Henry, formerly a prince of Seylos' royal house, is not only a hugely entitled shit but a murderous c*nt, too. And seemingly plans to make his own Bond Villain-esque evil organisation.

11. [Notable N00b] In all honesty, this is perhaps the most difficult one to choose a nominee for. There are a good few that are definitely worthy of it and it's almost unfair to try to select one person over any of the others. Some have certainly made bigger contributions than others but we've had a fair few stick about and make some damn fine contributions. I'm going to say @Sancti Imperii Catholico for this one. The Fight for the White Smoke is coming on really well and I can only see it improving. Again, I think that many others who warrant it as an award - Seylos, Rihan, @Sayf, @Llalta, @Faramount, @Limonaia... the list is a lot longer than just those.

Voting is open.

I've collected all the above nominations in a poll which you can find at the very beginning of this topic. Names are sorted alphabetically by either the nation name, the character last name, or the topic name (excluding "the"). This was done to eliminate any complaints of bias. I hope I got everything right because it was a lot to process and sort.
