Incident in St Konstantinos' Square

At 16:00 yesterday evening, Tagmatika time, a protestor attempted to set himself alight in the centre of St Konstantinos' Square, Plateia tou Agios Konstantinou, in front of the Imperial Palace Complex. Whilst it isn't uncommon for protests outside of the Imperial Palace Complex, in recent years they have been few and far between, and often moved quickly on by the Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion or the Praitorioi, the secret police and the uniformed police. Violent demonstrations haven't happened in the heart of Arhomaneia since the fall of the Navarkhokrateia.

The protestor, a young man in his late twenties, stood at the heart of the square and proceeded to give a speech in Laimiaiki, Anglic, Aroman and the language of Koussoeia, before dousing himself in petrol and attempting to set himself on fire. However, due to the length of his speech, members of the Spatharokandidatoi, the Imperial Bodyguard, had approached the individual and were able to tackle him to the ground before he could ignite himself. The man was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital attached to the Church of St Alexios, where he remains under observation.

According to eyewitness accounts that have yet to be confirmed by the Praitorioi or the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, the man was wearing elaborate ceremonial dress associated with the royal family of Koussoeia, and claimed to be a grandson of the last recognised Shahanshah, or high king, of the country. His speech accused the nations of Eurth and Arhomaneia in particular of ignoring the plight of his country and standing idly by as it is ravaged by a cruel and degenerate people. The eyewitnesses claimed that he said that as his country is reduced to ashes by the indifference of others, so must he be along with it. However, as yet, the identity of the individual is not known and it cannot be confirmed whether there is any truth to the claims that he made.

The claims made by the as yet unknown man are fairly damning, due to the fact that it could be argued that they are entirely accurate. Whilst the support for the heretics that are being forcibly exiled by the Gharoi (@Haruspex) is growing and a multinational response – mainly made up of other Christian nations -  has been formed in order to rescue them from their plight, the rest of the people of Koussoeia are being left to their fate. Indeed, the Megas Agios Basileia entirely ignored its old ally, the Glorious Dominate, as it fell into anarchy during the Great Europan Collapse, choosing to look inwards as Koussoeia fragmented. Perhaps it is then of little surprise that the Sovereign Imperium thought that it could strengthen itself at the cost of its old enemy, since the rest of the wurld had turned a blind eye up until that point.

The Gharoi have not shown any attempts to treat those who live in the territories that they are occupying. Indeed, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion even acknowledged that the people there will likely end up suffering under the regime of Sovereign Imperium – an acknowledgement that is appalling, as it shows that Arhomaneia feels it can do little to influence its ally to ameliorate its actions. But, of course, the Gharoi are desperate to finally win victory over their old foe and to prop up their stuttering economy with the spoils of that victory.

The small population of Koussoeioi that live in Arhomaneia, mainly in the east around the major sea ports that used to have trading links with the Glorious Dominate, have remained more or less quiet as the situation in the northern Occident turns against their homeland. It is likely that they feel nothing but despair as their ancient country disappears beneath the barbarous onslaught from the east. The Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion and the intelligence services are reportedly keeping a close eye on these ex-pats and immigrants. If this attempt at self-immolation had gone to plan at the heart of Tagmatika, it might have given a spark to make the sullen resignation into something much more.

Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion Reportedly Looked into Opening Trade Zone

After the success of the Morheimian Trade and Industry Zone, many other nations seemed to leap on the idea, including the Marenesian nation of Batgendai (@Bulgenstaz), who recently took the step to weaken the socialist ideology of their own state by doing so. The Logothesion ton Kommerkiarionikou, the Ministry of Trade, and the Logothesion ton Genikou, the Ministry for Finance, apparently investigated the potential for Arhomaneia to open a similar trade zone within our country. The idea, however, was eventually dropped. This could well have been a missed opportunity for the Megas Agios Basileia, as for the Queendom of @Morheim, it has been nothing but a boon for the country's economy, and undoubtedly the skill pool and investment within it. At times, it can appear that Arhomaneia is somewhat inward facing when it comes to the potential of foreign trade, as the Logothesion ton Kommerkiarionikou is often more preoccupied with trying to dominate the ailing nations of central Europa, rather than reach out to the rest of the wurld.

However, it does seem that the reasoning behind dropping the idea of the trade zone was a careful deliberation of the choices available. There could have been the temptation to weaken workers' rights and environmental protections in order to make it more attractive to foreign investment, something which would fly in the face of the policies of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, especially as the environment has been one of the key policies of the reign of Kommodos III, may Christ forever guide him. Similarly, the opinions of the Church must be taken into account, as it could be said that this would lead to a mood of commercialism and secularism that Arhomaneia has been able to avoid, despite such woeful influences spreading across Eurth.

The decision to step back from the idea of free trade zone may well have been what started several other programmes pursued by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, namely the announcement of funded bursaries for foreign students and the Northern Europan Development Fund (NEDF). The  number of foreigners that have taken up the bursaries has yet to be released, although it is clearly hoped that it will attract some of the best and the brightest from across the wurld to study at some of the oldest universities on the planet. The NEDF has apparently made little headway, as many of the other Europan nations are viewing it as little more than an attempt by Arhomaneia to draw them into its sphere of influence.

Instead of a free trade zone, it seems that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is starting to reach out to individual nations across the wurld to broker trade agreements with them, as seen by the tentative beginnings of talks with Salvia (@Sancti Imperii Catholico). It is likely that similar agreements will be started with other countries that Arhomaneia considers close partners, such as the Kingdom of @Seylos . As yet, it seems that the Logothesion ton Kommerkiarionikou's attention is concentrated on the mid Adlantic. In time, sights may be set upon the New Wurld – after all, Arhomaneia's relations with many of those countries are improving. Diplomatic contact with @Ahranaian Federation has been started again after a break of several years, and the spat between the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and the Republic of the @Sunset Sea Islands seems to have become a thing of the past.

Parabalanoi start aid mission to Ceris

Aid increased to crisis-racked Adlantic island

For several years now, a series of economic and humanitarian crises has affected the island of Ceris, which lies in the western Adlantic Ocean. This has led to the breakdown in effective government for most of the small states that occupy the island, leading to an ever-worsening situation for the population there. The last thirty years has seen many of the countries suffer coup and counter-coup, as well as outbursts of ethnic violence, which has sometimes even become as bad as ethnic cleansing and genocide, on a par with those that have recently been seen in @Greater Serbia and Machina @Haruspex.

Coupled with this, a dangerous cult – one that has been branded a terroristic organisation by many governments – is spreading across the west of the island. This has made almost the perfect storm for the inhabitants. Warlordism and ethnic strife is on the rise, and many of the countries are on the brink of total collapse. There is almost little hope for there for any internal chances of peaceful resolution to the crises. The east of the island, however, is much more calm than the west, as it lies opposite the Kingdom of @Seylos. The Seylosian government has managed to be something of a stabilising influence, although this may not last all that long as the rest of the island plunges further into anarchy.

Due to the Ceris crisis, as well as the deteriorating state of the other countries that lie to the north, across the Makhaira Thalassa (the Dolch See), the area has seen a marked increase of piracy over the last year. Dozens of pirate attacks happen each day, making this part of Eurth one of the most dangerous in the wurld, perhaps almost as dangerous as the Meteorolas. Ceris itself, due to the lack of effective government for the most part, provides a shelter for many different pirate groups. As Ceris lies at the western end of the trade routes between Europa and central Argis and eastern, and the Basilikoploimon is cooperating with the Kingdom of Seylos in order to stamp out this threat to wurld trade. At the moment, a powerful naval taskforce is operating out of the Adapton base of Adrotiri, including the Protathlites tou Khristou class nuclear carrier, the BPP Agios Pantaleon. Both the Basilikoploimon and the Seylosian Royal Navy have reduced the threat of piracy to some extent, although the presence of warships can only go so far.

To this end, the Parabalanoi have started an aid mission to Ceris, in order to try to help with the starvation and unsanitary conditions that are beginning to become prevalent across the island. However, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion issued a warning that the safety of the aid workers cannot be guaranteed, even if the local governments extend their cooperation to them. The local warlords may decide to see the unarmed humanitarian workers as a prime targets. “Aid workers carrying out their Christian duty to help the sick, the hungry and the poor should be sacrosanct,” said a spokesperson from the Logothesion ton Barbaron. “However, the barbaroi that populate Ceris may not have the same views as civilised people. Whilst it is recognised that the people of Ceris do need outside help, Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is not able to recommend that any Arhomaioi travel to the island at this time.”

The Parabalanoi themselves have been questioned on whether they are aware of the dangers that their workers may be facing when they arrive in Ceris. “All of our workers are aware of the terrible situation on the island and they are keen to carry out God's work, despite the dangers that they might face. We have a local presence in many of the countries already, as part of our wurldwide network, and we will be working with the local governments in order to provide protection for our workers, should they need it.”

Undoubtedly, as true Christians following Christ's example, the aid workers will be protected from all harm by the will of God. And, on top of that, it should not be doubted that the locals will be grateful for the aid being given to them by more civilised peoples, which will mean that they are going to be disinclined to harm those who are helping them. The presence of the BPP Agios Pantaleon may make them think twice, too.

Mercy International opens Office in Europatorion

Is the Human Rights Organisation a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing?

Mercy International is not an organisation that many had heard about until the humanitarian crisis sparked by the Gharoi invasion of Koussoeia. Few took notice of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) when it set up a temporary headquarters in Tagmatika, or as it began to look around for newer premises somewhere within Arhomaneia. It has purchased a site in Europatorion, the capital of the Megas Agios Basileia for hundreds of years, and the redevelopment of the site is nearing completion. The city is one of the main ports on the Kentriki Thalassa, the Central Sea, and is well-placed for access deeper into the Occident. There was initially local opposition to the site selected, although that was overcome through public consultations and assurances that the new building would respect the architectural styling of the vernacular style of the old capital.

The NGO became one of the loudest, and first, voices raised against the actions of the Sovereign Imperium as they undertook their campaign of ethnic cleansing. It was a voice that was heard before most governments, including that of the country organisation is based in, Orhioneia (@Orioni). The head of Mercy International, Adam Brand, has used this increase in media presence to go on to criticise the government of the Beautiful Empire and state that it needs to be more proactive in holding the Sovereign Imperium to account for its actions.

This is undoubtedly a good thing – the actions of the Sovereign Imperium have been little short of an outrage. Although the Gerenians are heretics and therefore have fallen from the true teachings of Christ, as mandated by the Church in Arhomaneia, they do not deserve to suffer what they have been forced to go through by the Gharoi. Despite the Orhionioi – and their alliance, the Entente of Oriental States - often being the first to criticise others for abusing human rights, they have done little other than sit on their hands after the multinational humanitarian coalition to help the Gerenians was formed.

Whilst actions of Adam Brand and his organisation are to be lauded, their creeping influence may not be. They present themselves as a champion of human rights but they likely have their own agenda. Their own literature states that their investigations into abuses of human rights are “determined by [their] own administration”. In this regard, they no better than the Mundus Liber Institute, a notoriously biased organisation that repeatedly and egregiously misjudges Arhomaneia and attempts to steer other nations towards their own political ideology. Likely this is true of Mercy International as well, as they are little more than a grouping of barbaroi, entirely ignorant of the ancient culture of the Arhomaioi. Their recent appointment of Plakidia Lukapena as head of the organisation within Megas Agios Basileia is telling in this regard. Lukapena was a member of the Nea Demokrateia, the so-called pro-democracy movement of Isaakios Niketas, which still seeks to pervert the God-guided political structures of Arhomaneia. Lukapena did admittedly quit the organisation due to the dubious practices of Niketas, the disgraced former Proedros, the head of the Synkletos, the Senate.

It is not a giant leap, then, to suggest that Mercy International is not just aiming to draw attention to outrages such as the ethnic cleansing of the Gerenians, but also attempting to disrupt the very political fabric of the nations of Eurth. This can be seen by the fact that demagogues are being appointed to high level and likely given sway over the organisation's policies. That the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has not sought to prevent the NGO from worming its way into Arhomaneia or protested the appointment of Lukapena shows how well it can be at pulling the wool over the eyes of otherwise-sensible people. To allow it to continue to be based in our nation, let alone in an ancient capital, is a gross oversight.

The Katholikos Patriarkhes Makes Khristougena Statement

It is traditional for His All-Holiness, Katholikos Patriarkhes Kosmas I of Europatorion to make a statement as we lead up to this holy time of year. Indeed, it is a tradition that all of the other Patriarkhai follow. Kosmas tends to be the least politically involved of all of them, markedly unlike His Holiness, Nikolaos IX, Patriarkhes of Tzankhia, who tends to be the most outspoken. The statement started off in the Katholikos Patriarkhes' usual manner, with praise being given for the peaceful year that the people of Arhomaneia have, and began to emphasise the need for charity and hospitality at this time of year, as the Occidental subcontinent starts to slip into its usual cold weather.

His All-Holiness then went onto talk about the major crisis currently facing the Occident, the expulsion of the Gerenian Christian minority from their homelands in Koussoeia by the Megas Agios Basileia's ally, the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon, the Sovereign Imperium of Machina @Haruspex.

“It is our Christian duty to take in these poor, wronged people, to make sure that they can once again find security and peace, and they are able to live happy and peaceful lives, free from the threat of forced movement and oppression by a state that has made itself antithetical to them.”

That in itself is a strong attack on the actions of the Gharoi and demonstrates how strongly Kosmas feels about the ongoing crisis. Whilst the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has yet to say much against the actions of the Sovereign Imperium in Koussoeia, it is obvious that the Katholikos Patriarkhes' feelings are shared by most Arhomaioi. That Arhomaneia's northern neighbour is acting in a manner that is harming the peace between the two nations, not at least because it is carrying out an ethnic cleansing of a Christian people. It must also be remembered that until the Glorious Dominate collapsed into turmoil, it was a counterbalance to the Exousiokrateia.

His All-Holiness went on to say that the traditional gift-giving on the day of Christ's birth could be more appropriately aimed at charity towards the people displaced by the actions of the Gharoi. The Church has often been quite uncomfortable with the more commercialised aspects of the season, although it does not manifest as blatantly in Arhomaneia as in other parts of Eurth, for which we should be thankful.

“In recognition of this holy time of year, and as a re-enactment of the Three Magi bringing gifts to our Saviour, it has become a tradition to exchange gifts. This year, perhaps this tradition is better guided to helping out the Gerenians, who find themselves far from their homes and often without more than the clothes on their backs.”

The actions of the other nations who have come to the aid of the Gerenians was also praised by the Katholikos Patriarkhes, both Christian and non-Christian, who have stepped up to help with the ongoing crisis.

“We must also be thankful that our fellow Christians from across the wurld, and even peoples who are from other faiths and creeds, have also stepped forward and shown that despite differences, we can all work together in times of need and demonstrate that even though we have our various ways of approaching our love of God, it is to Him that we turn to when times are dire. They have strived to deliver the poor unfortunates from an unjust fate and on to lands that are more welcoming.”

There have been some unsubstantiated rumours that initial drafts of Kosmas' message was even more strident in its tone against the actions of the Gharoi and he was specifically asked by the Agios Basileos himself to tone it down. There have been worries that too overt a tone by the Church against the actions of the Sovereign Imperium may cause yet another reversal by Prathen when it comes to observers from the Tagmata who are making sure that the Gharoi do not carry out war crimes against the Koussoeioi, as well as the aid workers from the Parabalanoi, who are trying to make sure that the refugees do not suffer too much during their exile from their homes.

Whilst it is certainly the case that the Gharoi are acting in a barbaric and savage manner, and it is difficult to see any silver lining to their actions, perhaps it should be reflected on that many different people are coming together had helping the Gerenians in their hour of need.

City of Arhoma Accused of Irreligiousness

The city of Arhoma, also know as Aroma or Arome by barbaroi and the local population, has seen significant changes in fortune over the last several thousand years. Once the heart of Arhomaneia, the infamous burning in EK5774 (AD296), repeated sacks in the EK5900s (AD400) and a general decline in fortune of the city eventually forced the government of the time to relocate the capital to various other cities over the centuries. This has included Europatorion, which was the capital until the reign of Methodianos VIII, who moved the imperial seat to Tagmatika in EK6400 (AD911), where it has remained. In the intervening years, Arhoma has slowly reinvented itself, going from a backwater to first as a minor trading port and, in the last one hundred or so years, as something of a commercial port, having long absorbed the ancient port of Stoma Fikana, serving the agricultural regions its south and in recent years a hub of a booming service industry. It has never lost its lustre as the heart of civilisation, although it has definitely diminished somewhat since then.

It has also become something of the heart of Arhomaneia's fashion industry. Whilst fashion has not always been viewed as one of the strong points of the Megas Agios Basileia by foreigners – Cascadia in @Galahinda, @Macanoco or Limone in @Limonaia are more likely to spring to the mind of the barbaroi – it has never been entirely stagnant. Trends from other countries are slow to filter through to the rest of the nation, as they are often resisted as being little more than the efforts of barbarians to try to mimic the Arhomaioi, or too outlandish to be able to match up to the standards of true civilisation, as well as against true Christian virtues.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the fashion industry has never sat too well with some of the more conservative elements of the Church. This is undoubtedly intensified by the fact that Arhoma itself is arguably the heart of Christianity in Arhomaneia, although this title has become somewhat lessened since the Treaty of Arhoma. Fashion shows are often picketed by groups of clerics protesting against the wickedness happening within, usually suggesting that these displays of immorality are inspired by the Devil to tempt people away from God.

The Patriarkhes Nikolaos IX of Tzankhia recently charged that the ancient city has sunk to little more than a den of iniquity, saying that “the ancient bishops of Arhoma, some of the foremost Church fathers, must be ashamed to see that their city has become a centre of harlotry and sin, with immodesty held up as the highest of virtues. Their nakedness inspires lust, their extravagance greed and so-called 'plus size models' an excuse for gluttony.”

In a surprising move, the Praifektos Orbanos, Khristoforos Florentios Praitextatos, the mayor of Arhoma, struck back against Nikolaos. “Whilst at other times I might agree with His Holiness, that there are few things higher than to strive harder in the works of God, I cannot agree that our city has sunk to such low levels. Our civilisation, and our city, has always been looked upon with envy by other peoples and nations, and being a leader in fashion is a part of this. We are wurld leaders and although we must keep Christ in our hearts, we cannot allow ourselves to be held back. Arhoma may no longer be a city of marble, but of brick; this should not mean that we should not try to be beautiful once again.”

Although His Holiness Nikolaos IX, has not replied directly to the comments by Praifektos Orbanos Florentios, local members of the church almost immediately levelled the accusation of irreligiousness against him, and by extension the city itself. Florentios has worked hard in recent years to put the ancient capital back on the map, once again visited by tourists from across Arhomaneia itself and from across the wurld. However, its political fortunes are still at their lowest ebb and it seems like it will remain more famous as a centre of service industry and a commercial port than a centre of culture.

Call to Boycott businesses that Trade with the Sovereign Imperium

Campaign to put economic pressure on the Gharoi and those who work with them

One of the biggest changes to life in the Occident caused by the alliance between the Sovereign Imperium of Machina @Haruspex and the Megas Agios Basileia was the opening of trade between the two nations. Before this, it had been sporadic and occasional – usually, the isolated barbarian nation was content to eke out its own resources, sometimes turning to raiding its neighbours when their ineptitude towards handling their economic affairs caused famine and want amongst their own people. Typically, this was beaten back in short order by the might of Arhomaiki arms. However, the alliance had normalised the economic relations and trade had flourished. At the time, it was hoped by some that closer economic ties between Arhomaneia and our northern neighbour would lead to a level of civilisation filtering through to them, as they were able to see the benefits of what that civilisation could give them. Likely, the frozen hovels of the Gharoi became truly liveable for the first time in thousands of years.

Now, this can be perceived as only a mistake, as it has undoubtedly given the barbarous Gharoi the strength to subjugate the Glorious Dominate and carry out the ethnic cleansing that they have inflicted on the Gerenians. Whilst it is clear why the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has not acted in a manner that breaks the alliance – although the actions of the Gharoi have stretched it to breaking point – there have been those within Arhomaneia who have taken it upon themselves boycott companies and organisations that trade with the Sovereign Imperium. This is undoubtedly so that the Gharoi suffer some punishment for their heinous actions, even as the coalition of nations that has been formed to help the heretics does not seem to have the stomach to do so. Perhaps the governments of the nations in the coalition will remedy that in time, as both Derthalen and Greater Serbia suffered embargoes at the hands of the rest of the wurld for carrying out actions of a similarly foul nature as those of the Sovereign Imperium.

A list of offending businesses has been circulated on line recently, and it is of course the duty of every God-fearing Christian to cease doing business with them. Any Arhomaioi who work for those companies should immediately resign and any who knowingly work with the Gharoi should face censure, for they are aiding the enemies of God by doing so. May it be that they quickly come to their senses and repent their sins, and discuss with their episkopos (bishop) a suitable penance for their actions, and how it has affected not just the poor Koussoeioi but the state of their own immortal souls. It should undoubtedly include a donation, above the normal levels of Christian charity, and especially to the Paranbalanoi, who are striving hard to give the poor Gerenians a measure of what has been stripped from them by the actions of the Gharoi.

It should be noted that the organisers behind this boycott have emphasised that it should not just be Arhomaioi who carry it out and that it should be a wurldwide effort by all of those who profess to be Christians. And even any non-believers who hold decency and civilisation dear to their hearts. Some of the companies on the list are barbarian in origin or are based overseas – of course, the perfidious Elegy Corporation of the @Sunset Sea Islands is the first on the list. That shadowy, rapacious corporation is likely using the misery of the Koussoeioi for its own benefit and to further its insidious goals. No true Christian should ever consider giving money to that sinister company and those that have bought any of its products should immediately dispose of them. The Elegy Corporation isn't headquartered on Eurth, but in the very bowels of hell.

So far, no one from either the Church or the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has responded to this paper's questions about the boycott. It is likely that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion does not wish to damage the relations with the Sovereign Imperium by acknowledging the boycott officially. There are still Gerenians being moved from the transit camps within the Koussoeia and Gharon, as well as aid workers from the Parabalanoi and observers from the Tagmata still within the Sovereign Imperium and being seen to back up this boycott may endanger them. As it is, Exousiokrator Ji'Mar has been very fickle when it comes to the status of the observers and aid workers – they have already been expelled once and it is unknown how the infantile ruler of the Gharoi might act if the boycott takes on the nature of an official embargo.

Arhomaneia to sell Aircraft Carriers

Weakening the Basilikoploimon or Strengthening Allies?

Since the acquisition of the Despotes class aircraft carriers from the Great Queendom of @Suverina almost a decade ago, the great vessels have been mothballed in the ports of Dyrrakion and Thenion, becoming little more than landmarks in the facilities of the Basilikoploimon in those cities. The two ships were bought from Suverina for a nominal fee, after Arhomaneia had been kicked out of the joint development programme for nuclear-powered aircraft carriers because of a serious break in relations between the two nations. After being removed from the joint programme, the Megas Agios Basileia had started another joint programme with our close allies, @Adaptus, which led to the creation of the Protathlites tou Khristou class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Despite the purchase of the Despotes class – named the Prince Michail II by the Souberinoi – being criticised by many at the time, the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou went through with it, thinking it an opportunity that could not be missed.

Although two new capital ships certainly strengthened the Basilikoploimon on paper, the criticisms about their purchase revolved around the fact that there was not the funds or the personnel available to make the ships operational. And this very quickly became apparent, as the last time the ships were to move under their own power was from the dockyards in the Great Queendom where they were built to the dockyards that were to become their permanent home in Arhomaneia. It has been said that their sole worth has been to familiarise the Basilikoploimon with the examples of the Prince Michail II class in service with the Souberinoi. As such, they were quickly mothballed with an eye to reactivating them once the money became available. However, other modernisation plans have been carried out since then, from the cyber and electronic warfare programmes to the replacement of the ageing fleet air arm.

It is, then, perhaps no surprise that the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou is now thinking of divesting itself of the carriers. It comes at a time when the Basilikoploimon was surprised by the navy of the Sovereign Imperium carrying out night-time gun exercises and mock air combat in the waters of the Rhankes Thalassa, a key event in the deteriotation of the relations between Arhomaneia and Gharon. The argument against selling the carriers is that it weakens the strength of the Basilikoploimon at a time when it should be strengthen, although it has been suggested that the money raised from the sale of the carriers will likely be invested back into the navy.

The key question is to which nations the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is selling the carriers. At the moment, the government has remained tight-lipped about who it is doing business with on that front. One suggested purchaser is the Republic of @Iverica, assuming that the carriers are going to be purchased as a pair, as Arhomeneia has had a long history of military cooperation with the Argic country – both militaries share the same calibre and cartridge, the 7mm Nika round. This seems also to add fire to the rumours that the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou will be purchasing several so-called “littoral combat ships” from the Argic republic, and this will be possibly enacted as part of the same deal. It is also clear that the Republic is fast becoming one of the leading powers of Eurth, as it is spearheading the humanitarian effort for the Gerenians, alongside Arhomaneia.

Another rumoured purchaser is the Kingdom of @Seylos. This is perhaps more sensible than Iverica, as the presence of another carrier, or carriers, will mean that the piracy emergency in the Makhaira Thalassa (the Dolch See) will likely be quashed in short order. It is, however, unknown how the other nations bordering the Makhaira Thalassa might react to it – Derthalen has seemingly once again turned into an isolationist state after the repeated embargoes and blockades that it suffered at the hands of almost every civilised nation on Eurth and the nations of Ceris are almost entirely on the brink of collapse.

There have been some suggestions, again entirely unconfirmed by the Agios Basilikon Kounistorion, that one of the carriers might be bought by Salvia (@Sancti Imperii Catholico). This is perhaps the most outlandish rumour of them – it is a peaceable nation and it is currently suffering something of an internal crisis, entirely brought about by the heretical structure of its church. It is a key ally of Arhomaneia in Marenesia and a strong local bulwark against the spread of communism.

Salvian ships to arrive in Glevokastron

As part of the ongoing ethnic cleansing crisis in the Glorious Dominate of Koussoeia, a group of vessels from @Salvia is to arrive in the port of Glevokastron within the next few days. This is part of the refugee relief agreement, which was started when the Sovereign Imperium of Machina @Haruspex invaded its old enemy and started to forcibly remove the heretical Christian minority from their homelands. This precipitated a multi-nation coalition to be formed, in order to rescue the Christians from oppression and forced eviction from their homeland as the barbarous Gharoi seized the land for themselves. It is one of the biggest crises in the Occident since the AdSoc War.

Salvia, the theocratic island nation in Marenesia, has had one of the biggest responses to the humanitarian crisis, outside of our own Arhomaneia. Some sixty two vessels left the southern nation, apparently including a replica of a 19th Century sailing ship, in order to come to the aid of the refugees. Many of these ships have been heading towards the Ragas Thalassa, otherwise known as the Raga Sea, and the canal in order to pick up refugees and take them onwards to safer lands, far away from the repression and violence that has been inflicted on them by the Gharoi. That our fellow Christians in the south have been stirred by the plight of the Gerenians is certainly a very heartening prospect and is continuing proof that the rest of Eurth has not turned its back on them.

The presence of the Salvian naval forces within Glevokastron will certainly be a change for the port city. It has become one of the main naval bases for the Basilikoploimon since the island of Akhbiseia (known as Akwisia by the inhabitants) was accepted as a protectorate of Arhomaneia over a decade ago. It has suffered a tumultuous history in recent years, as it requested a protectorate status from the Megas Agios Basileia after suffering an economic crisis of a sort not seen until the Great Europan Collapse. It has recovered in recent years, partially because of the heavy investment by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and now the Salvian visitors will be able to visit a booming and vibrant island, a far cry from the destitute state where poverty was once endemic.

What is concerning, however, is the number of military vessels that has also been contained within the group sent by Salvia to the Rhankes Thalassa, the Ranke Sea. There have been reports that it includes two missile cruisers, which means that the force is certainly not to be trifled with. This has led to some guessing that the nature of the coalition may change at some point in the near future and move from transporting those displaced to become more punitive in its actions towards the Sovereign Imperium. This has not been confirmed by any sources within the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion or further abroad, nor has the language used by the coalition changed in any way to suggest that.

Nonetheless, tensions remain high in the northern Occident. Parts of Koussoeia occupied by the Gharoi have fallen silent in recent weeks. At first, it was reported that this was due to a significant winter storm coming from the Argic and lashing the area with blizzards and heavy snow. The lack of communication coming from the areas affected has not improved in recent days and it has begun to be suggested that there may be other reasons for this, beyond the weather. Members of the Parabalanoi, the Arhomaiki aid agency working with the refugees in Koussoeia, have seen increasing troop movements near areas affected by the weather. What precisely this means is so far unknown – it could merely be that the Gharoi themselves are facing a severe series of winter storms, or perhaps something darker.

Given their known predilection barbarity and uncivilised acts, they could be stepping up their ethnic cleansing campaign to something more than forced population movements. There have been no confirming reports from the Tagmata observers stationed amongst them. Hopefully, the lack of reports is due to the lack of news, rather than a lack of reporters. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has not indicated that it feels that its servicepeople are under threat, so perhaps this is the best indication that a further increase in hostilities are expected any time soon.

Economic Deal struck with Ceris Nation

The Noble Republic of Secyrae and the Megas Agios Basileia struck a treaty yesterday, after several weeks of negotiation between the two governments. The representative of Arhomaneia at these negotiations, Protologothetes Konstantinian Makarios announced that after intensive discussion, both countries had come to an equitable agreement and he had signed a treaty with Furst Karsten von Nusshorst, the head of the government of Secryae.

“This treaty represents the start of a new relationship between our two great nations, one of equals and a new era,” Protologothetes Makarios is quoted as saying. “A new era not just in Secyrae or Arhomaneia, or even Ceris, but Eurth itself.”

The announcement by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion that it had reached an economic and military deal with the Republic of Secyrae will have come as a surprise to most, especially since it seems to consist of some large scale infrastructure projects, large loans, military sales and training. The small nation in the north east of the island of Ceris isn't one that would be familiar to any other than those who have been keeping a close eye on the events that have been taking place there. Ceris has been in the news in recent months due to the increased level of piracy in the Makhaira Thalassa (Dolch Sea) and the recent announcement that the Parabalanoi have started an aid mission to the island, which has seen an increasing humanitarian crisis since last year.

The Basilikoploimon and the Royal Navy of @Seylos have been carrying out anti-piracy operations in the Makhaira Thalassa, mainly concerned with protecting international shipping from the depredations of the various pirate groups that are operating from the shores of the sea, mainly from the northern coast of Ceris. They have recently been joined by the navy of the Arab Democratic Republic of @Sayf. The Arhomaiki task force, headed by the famed Navarkhos Ethelred, has seen some success in keeping down the number of pirate attacks against vessels in the area but it has been judged by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion that merely attacking the pirates is not a long term solution to the situation.

The island itself has seen some thirty years of chaos. Instead, the Megas Agios Basileia has started to consider that shoring up some of the more stable states is perhaps the best way to reduce the issue of piracy, as well as to fend off the spread of the dangerous cult of so-called “Sentists” who have been carrying out attacks in the west of the nation. Arhomaneia isn't the first nation to take this route – the Kingdom of Seylos has long been interacting with nations across the small strait between the islands and even Arhomaneia's ally of @Metztlitlalio has sent aid to the poor countries of Ceris, in order to reduce the suffering of the people there. Recently, the Worker's Republic of @Fulgistan has signed a treaty with several nations – Criasia, Ubraoria, Ganlin and Edrela - from the west of the island, apparently partially to combat the rising threat of this dangerous cult. Perhaps it should not be doubted that the communist country is also trying to draw them into its sphere of influence to for its own ends.

Nonetheless, the economic treaty with Secryae seems to have come as something of a surprise. The country itself isn't the biggest or the most powerful within Ceris, but it is one of the more stable ones. Despite the nation being in the midst of an economic downturn, its shipbuilding industry is still one of the few functioning industries in any nation on the island. This is likely due to the fact that piracy needs ships, both for pirates themselves and as targets. It also still has a functioning government, although it manifests as a group of strongmen in a typical barbarian feudalistic manner.

It seems that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is relying on this in a manner. The fact that Secyrae is still functional, even if in a way that is a somewhat typical of a barbarian nation, does mean that it can be brought towards a civilised state. Hopefully, the influence of Arhomaneia will begin to spread from the east of Ceris and bring stability with it. This is something that the people of the island so desperately need, especially after the years of oppression and chaos. Unlike the other foreign nations that are getting involved on the island, it is only Arhomaneia that can truly bring peace.

Arhomaneia signs Agricultural Agreement with Metztlitlalio

Slaver-state agrees to enter the Civilised Wurld

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion announced last week that it has come to an agreement with the Archpriest Dominion of @Metztlitlalio to help the Alharan country bring its agricultural sector up to the high standard of the Megas Agios Basileia, a move that is based upon the barbaroi ending the foul practice of slavery within its borders. This can be considered a victory for not just Arhomaiki diplomacy and a demonstration of our advanced technology compared to the savage nations that populate Alharu, but also for the rest of Eurth. It means that another nation has made steps towards becoming a proper member of the wurld's community.

The southern nation, which sits on the lower end of the Palu Peninsula, is not all that known about by most Arhomaioi. It has remained somewhat insular and withdrawn for much of the EK7520s (AD2000s), and has only started to participate in wurld affairs recently. It is, perhaps, most famous for being ruled over or heavily influenced by other nations, most notably being the @Limonaian Empire, of which it was part of until EK7486 (AD1977). Recently, it has seen a boom in heavy industry, which is primarily focussed on bauxite mining and aluminium production, with several foreign-owned companies taking a leading role within the industry.

By the Archpriest Dominion's own estimates, almost six percent of the population are slaves, although some estimates place it at almost double that number. This is, obviously, unthinkable. It is surprising that no nation has taken issue with this fact, especially since the other slaver-states have suffered embargoes and threats of invasion. Whilst it could be possible that the Dominion of Limonaian States has enough political clout on the wurld stage to ward that off, but that seems unlikely. Instead, it is much more probable that Metztlitlalio's position as one of the foremost exporter of aluminium means that other nations are unwilling to disrupt that trade, despite the fact that what the southern Alharan nation is is an offence to God. On top of the fact the nation itself is a fundamentally Godless place, held under the sway of a theocracy that has monstrous, bloodstained roots. It is surprising that the Basilikoploimon has not sent a battlegroup down to the Palu Peninsula order to bring them into the modern era.

However, despite the fact that the Metztlikua – as they call themselves – are a slave-owning people, it must be recognised that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is doing God's work by peacefully correcting the attitude of these barbaroi. The Logothesion tou Paroikonikou (Ministry of Agriculture) and the Logothesion ton Koiaisitoron (Ministry of Works) have sent a group of representatives, including numerous farmers and technical experts, to try to help the slave-owners come up to speed with modern, mechanised farming. As it is, the majority of slaves are held by farmers, who would undoubtedly benefit from the introduction of modern technology. Whilst it would be preferable to think that Christian arguments against the holding of slaves won out against such horrendous actions, it is possible that the economic arguments held at least similar weight.

The Logothesion tou Paroikonikou was questioned about its decision to send representatives, alongside those from other Logothesia, with especial emphasis on aiding a nation that is purposefully ignoring the wurld-wide trend of freeing slaves.

“It is, of course, our Christian duty to bring those ignorant towards the light,” said a representative of the Logothesion when questioned by this paper. “This does not just mean the spiritually ignorant, but those who continue practices that have rightfully been rejected almost everywhere else. By helping Metztlitlalio to bring its farming into the modern age, we help not just those who labour under the yoke of slavery, but the whole nation.”

It has not yet been outlined as to what Arhomaneia is receiving in return for its tutorship of the Metztlikua farmers and the freeing of slaves, especially since much of the cost could be borne by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. It has been rumoured that it is as little as the equal recognition for the Church, as the heretical @Seylosian and @Salvian Churches have recognition under law, although that seems to be relatively cheap a price, as worthy as it might be. There are suggestions that the Metztlikua will have to keep paying off the debts that they have earned directly to the Logothesion tou Paroikonikou. But, perhaps, the true reward is what it should be – doing Christ's work on Eurth.

Elections of the Salvian Pope Announced

A New Chapter for Church Relations?

The Salvian Church has announced that it will begin elections for its new head. This marks the end of three years of the position of head of the Salvian Church being vacant, and will mark a new beginning in relations not with just the Arhomaiki Church, but with every Christian denomination on Eurth. Of course, this does not come with little controversy, as the claim of being the “catholic” church has always been contended by the our own church, as it is the tree that all others have split off from. However, the lack of a head of the Salvian Church has undoubtedly weakened not just the Diarchy, as the Salvian Pope is considered to be equal with that of @Iverica, but Salvia itself. All eyes have been on the Marenesian state since scandal rocked it and its church earlier this year. That scandal overshadowed Salvia's participation in helping the refugees from the abuses of Machina @Haruspex in Koussoeia.

Ever since Liosos brought the Light of Christ to Marenesia, the Church of Salvia has been considered by many to be a sister to the Arhomaiki Church. Whilst more might consider this to be incorrect – rightly pointing out the many discrepancies and differences that have sprung up over the years due to the distances that are involved – it can never be doubted that the Salvians have striven hard in the name of God. Sometimes, perhaps, this has resulted in actions that might otherwise foolhardy, such as the crusades that were unleashed to force unbelievers into the arms of God, rather than letting them come naturally, as is supposed to be the case. But it is indeed easy to look down upon Salvia. It is a barbarian nation that is trying hard to ape its better in the form of the Megas Agios Basileia. And, so far, it has almost succeeded.

It is why the election of the new head of the Salvian Church must be watched carefully. That branch of Christianity has significant influence across the New Wurld, rightly or wrongly. They have done much to bring barbaroi towards Christ. Obviously, they are not to be considered in the same manner as the Katholikos Patriarkhes of our own church, who is first amongst equals, as the make up of the Salvian worship of Christ does not work in the same way. Nor can the winner of this election be thought of as the equal of the Vice-Gerent of God on Eurth, the Thirteenth Apostle, Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God, Agios Basileos kai Autokrator ton Arhomaioi. The ruler of Arome is the Leader of the Free Wurld and therefore above barbarian rulers, whether temporal or spiritual. Even fellow Christian ones, even if they are not to be considered out and out heretics. At least for political reasons.

It remains to be seen what the new incumbent will want to do with those cardinals who have been disqualified from voting, or outright arrested – of the over one hundred and fifty who were eligible to vote, some thirty five were prevented from doing so. A good proportion of these were under arrest, awaiting trial or in prison. The charges were varying from corruption to heresy to “crimes against the church”. Some of those are perhaps unintentionally ironic, as the Salvian Church espouses heresy on a day-to-day basis, but perhaps that is not an observation that is necessary at this point.

Nonetheless, it is hoped that the new Salvian pope will herald a fresh beginning for the Christian faith on Eurth. If whoever takes the papal throne can realise that their cherished differences from the Arhomaiki Church are little more than distractions and acknowledge the occupant of the Leopard Throne as the representative of God on Eurth as he truly is, then this will a new start for not just our shared faith, but the entirety of humanity.

Synkletos to Reconvene

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has announced the intention to reform and reconvene the Synkletos, the Senate. This comes as something of a surprise announcement, considering that the Agios Basileos Kommodos III, may Christ guide him, had not demonstrated any interest in that ancient institution since his acclamation as monarch in EK7513 (AD2005), in the aftermath of the Civil War. There were many possible reasons for this, with critics of the current government suggesting that it was because of the fact that the Agios Basileos did not want any oversight of his government's actions by a body that he could not directly control. However, this can be challenged by the fact that the monarch had sole power over the appointment of any person to the Synkletos. If the Autokrator wished to stack it in his favour, he could have. It has been suggested that the body itself had become moribund, with little power and costing the weakened economy of Arhomaneia vast amounts of money which it was not able to continue doing after the devastation wrought during the Civil War.

A committee to investigate the precise form of the reborn Synkletos is to be headed by the Kouropalates Fillipos Kommenos. Kommenos is a long-time ally of Kommodos, even though they ran against each other during the election for the Leopard Throne. He is, however, a scion of one of the most famous aristocratic families himself, a living example of the establishment. It is unknown to what extent he will allow truly representative elected body to be created. The committee itself is to be made up of a wide ranging group, taking in academics from several leading universities, members of various Logothesia, numerous priests, some think tanks and has even been given the brief of interviewing barbaroi on the subject of how democracy functions in foreign nations.

The announcement has been met with a mix of celebration from most quarters, but a distinct amount of scepticism from others. There has been no word by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion as to just how the Synkletos is going to be organised, whether it will follow the old method of members being appointed to it or inheriting their position, in the old manner. This has led to the suggestion that it will be little more than a rubber-stamp body to give the actions of the government a democratic veneer, and nothing like a proper, representative democracy that is becoming one of the most common methods of government across Eurth.

The Nea Demokrateia movement, led by Isaakios Niketas, has seemingly been taken by surprise by this announcement. Despite Niketas being a leading member of the Synkletos before EK7513 and consistently advocating that the Synkletos be reopened, neither him nor his organisation seem to have been consulted by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. When asked about the announcement by this paper, Niketas himself declined to answer personally, but Nea Demokrateia did give an answer. “The campaign run by Nea Demokrateia over the last decade and a half is vindicated by the announcement by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. We are glad that the Agios Basileos has seen reason and is going to reintroduce the ancient tradition of democracy back into Arhomaneia.”

It is very likely that the exclusion of Niketas and Nea Demokrateia is a purposeful snub on the part of the government. The former Proedros has never been an ally of Kommodos, even when they were members of the government of Theodosios VI. Their working relationship was reportedly strained, as both men were known as being quite stubborn. However, perhaps it can be hoped that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will relent and allow Nea Demokrateia a voice at the meetings that are to decide the future of democracy in Arhomaneia. The often common perceptions of Niketas as either a demagogue purposefully trying to subvert Arhomaneia to his own ends or an entitled aristocrat attempting to regain a cushy sinecure are undoubtedly exaggerated. He and his organisation could be able to offer insights that may escape the committee being run by Kouropalates Kommenos, especially as they have cultivated connections with other pro-democracy groups across Eurth.

In all, it is unknown as to yet just how the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's play out. Whether it will offer the Arhomaioi more of a say in how their nation is run, as with many other countries in the wurld, or if it will just be some window-dressing on an otherwise authoritarian regime will only come out with time.

Preserved Railways Given Exemption from Pollution Legislation

The numerous preserved and historic railways in Arhomaneia have been living under an uncertain future due to the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's pro-environment agenda and clean air policies. These issues added to the decline in interest with younger visitors and potential volunteers, in part due to the fact that most Arhomaioi these days did not grow up in what has been termed the “age of steam”. It's a hobby that is seen as old fashioned, dirty and polluting in these days of electric trains and green energy. Indeed, this was the angle that the Logothesion ton Angelon, the Ministry for the Environment, had started to take. Much to the dismay of the preserved railways that dot the country and their volunteers, the Logothesion saw no reason to not apply the same legislation that was to reduce and clean up coal burning power stations to the locomotives used by the railways.

“It was a looking like a complete disaster,” said, Tiberios Kastoriotes, a volunteer at the Byzliteia Historic Railway, which is based at the small town of the same name, just to the west of Resafa. “The legislation would have probably have killed us. We depend on visitors and donations, and visitors want to see the locomotives in action. There's nothing like seeing a steam engine in action – the smells, the sounds, the sights!”

Many of the preserved railways don't just maintain historic steam engines, but the stations and ancillary buildings, as well. Some of them are examples of unique architecture, and without a stream of visitors to help with upkeep, most of them would struggle with repairs with just the money that comes from the Logothesion tes Trapezes, the Ministry of Culture. Some also receive a stipend from the Logothesion ton Raidarion, as some act as transport links for some small rural communities. Neither Logothesia could afford to support the railways in their entirety, although both do insist that they give as much money as they can afford to make sure that ones that are most at risk are able to continue to operate. Or at least keep their buildings and locomotives from decaying further.

However, a new Megas Logothetes ton Agelon was appointed several years ago by the Agios Basileos who saw the situation in a different light. Presbyteros Paulos Narses saw the situation in a different light. Whilst certainly an upholder of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's view that it is Mankind's duty to not ruin God's Creation, he also saw that this was perhaps something that the government could be flexible on. Likely with the permission of the Agios Basileos, may Christ forever guide him, himself, Presbyteros Paulos allowed preserved railways an exemption from clean air and pollution laws – although this was given the caveat of “within reason”.

“It is clear that Arhomaneia would be culturally poorer if we allowed such a blanket and unfeeling ban to erase this part of our history,” said Presbyteros Paulos. “Whilst there are static examples that can be viewed in many museums up and down the Megas Agios Basileia, it doesn't quite match up to seeing them as they should be.”

The actions of the Megas Logothetes ton Agelon has caused some complaints within the business community, as it has demonstrated a significant amount of favouritism for the heritage industry over any other. Whilst the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has attempted to help every aspect of the Arhomaiki economy through the transition to a green and sustainable system, some parts have certainly felt the brunt of it more than others. Certainly, heavy industry and manufacturing companies have begun to lobby the government in order to get similar exemptions as preserved railways, all of which so far have been refused. Representatives of these industries have pointed out that they are add significantly more to the economy of Arhomaneia than preserved railways, or even the heritage industry as a whole, and therefore exemptions for them would boost the entirety of the nation. So far, the Logothesion ton Agelon has pointed out that this is precisely why they cannot have an exemption, if the nation is going to keep its commitment to the Laren Agreement.

Nonetheless, volunteers like Tiberios Kastoriotes see this as a stay of execution, if not a complete vindication. “I agree with what Tagmatika is trying to do – preserving God's Eurth is something I wholeheartedly believe in. I just don't see how getting rid of a living, breathing part of Arhomaneia's history will achieve that. But I don't see this exemption lasting as long as I want it to.”

Ji'Mar Dead

The Exousiokrateia Descends into Civil War

The news that the Exousiokrator Ji'Mar of Gharon (@Haruspex) has been killed by traitors within his realm comes as a shock but perhaps is not unexpected. He was a heathen and a persecutor of Christians, both of heretic and true Arhomaiki sorts. Therefore, Ji'Mar being struck down is little more than that barbaros getting his just punishment for his actions. The rumour is also that he was put down as if a rabid dog by a member of his erstwhile bodyguard. That is a fitting end to someone who had caused such trouble for the Arhomaioi. The only thing to be truly sad about his passing is that now he cannot see there error of his ways, repent his actions and accept the love of Christ into his heart. Then, he would have been a true friend to civilisation and perhaps draw the Gharoi towards the light as a whole.

In the former Exousiokrator's stead, those who put the down the criminal have set up his sister on the throne. Kira'Karn is another child of the Sa'Karn, who was the last monarch of the Exousiokrateia to actually see sense and deal with its powerful southern neighbour on terms that did not insult the dignity of Arhomaneia. The new monarch has spent the intervening years in territories in the south of Europa that the Gharoi have stolen from the local inhabitants. She is reported to have have the background of an academic and a scholar, more interested in language and culture than the anti-Christian and anti-Arhomaioi policies that seemed to be Ji'Mar's sole motivation.

It is certainly hoped by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion that the Exousiokratorissa will prove to be better neighbour than her deceased brother. On paper, she seems to be less rigid in mindset than her brother and could well be able to conduct policy on equal terms with Arhomaneia – or, at least, as equal terms as possible as barbaroi can be with the Heart of Civilisation. It is likely that the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator Kommodos III, may Christ forever bless and guide him, is hopeful that Kira'Karn will be more like her father and the alliance that exists between Tagmatika and Prathen will able to repaired and be once again become a force for good in Europa, and across the wider Eurth. At the moment, after repeated transgressions by Ji'Mar, it is little more than words on paper.

The new Exousiokratorissa faces three severe problems that she will have to overcome before she can even begin to try to normalise relations with the rest of the wurld. The first, and most obviously pressing, is dealing with the so-called “loyalists” to her deceased brother. They aim to set up a separate regime in the conquered territories of Koussoeia, independent of Prathen. What, precisely, their long term goals are is unknown – whether they hope to gain international recognition as a sovereign country of their own, or use these carved out lands as a springboard to topple Kira'Karn and place another on the Gharoiki throne. Either way, as fighting in the north begins to drag out, it will only go on to weaken Gharon as a whole. That is something that all true Christians can rejoice about.

The next problem is tied in with the first. The continued subjugation of the Koussoeioi will be major sticking point with other nations. Although Kira'Karn states that those that remain will be offered citizenship and compensation for the horrors inflicted on them by the Gharoi, it is unknown how such paltry gestures will heal the deep wounds inflicted upon them. The two nations were ancient enemies and now that one has conquered the other and ridden roughshod over it, the deep divisions will likely last for many years to come. This will be especially so because of the diaspora of Koussoeioi that happened during and after the Great Europan Collapse still clings to the trappings of the old regime and hold the old enmities in their hearts – as can be seen by the individual who attempted to self-immolate in the Square of Agios Konstantinos.

The last is possibly the biggest hurdle that Kira'Karn faces. Again, it is linked to the invasion of Koussoeia. It is the explusion on the Gerenian Christian minority and the ethnic cleansing of their lands. It forced many thousands from their homes and forced appalling conditions on them, as well as placing a huge burden on Arhomaneia. This burden was partially taken up by an international coalition, which did not just include nations, but private bodies as well. It soured relations between the Megas Agios Basileia and the Exousiokrateia further, and with the rest of the wurld. It is likely that all of the nations involved with the coalition will look for repercussions against those responsible for the genocide before Kira'Karn can expect normal relations with any other country.

Severe Winter causes Chaos across Arhomaneia

Worst Death toll Due to Winter Storms in Years

The unusually severe winter that has descended on the northern Occident has been one of the most severe in recent years and is only just beginning to lift. Snow is still on the ground in many parts of north Arhomaneia, even as spring comes to the south of the nation. Many of the smaller villages and towns in the Trapezion, Kalamanion and Ioubaboion themata, or states, are still cut off after recent heavy snows, despite regular efforts to make sure that they are still connected to the outside world. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is making every effort to make sure that life in the northern themata is not too severely disrupted and is working closely with the local governments to make sure that life for the inhabitants is able to go on with as much normality as possible. Both the Logothesion ton Raidarion, the Ministry of Transport, and the Logothesion ton Koiaisitoron, the Ministry of Works, are making sure that the road and rail networks remain running as smoothly as possible and that the ports remain ice-free, so that supplies to the areas affected are not too disrupted.

In places, especially the more mountainous parts of the Trapezion, Resafion and Ioubaboion themata, the weather has been worse and the areas have felt the brunt of the snows and ice. Roads have been blocked by avalanches and landslides, which has meant that some communities have had to deal with emergencies on their own. The Apelatai, the famous mountain infantry and border guards, have regularly been called out to bolster the emergency services within the Ouranodistrision mountain range. Over the winter, the mountain trails were declared closed due to avalanche warnings and the severe storms that hit the mountains. However, as of March, it is thought that over hundred people died whilst hiking or skiing in the mountains, despite the warnings against it. In one tragic incident, a group of Apelatai were killed by an avalanche whilst searching for a party of lost hikers. They were also found dead later.

As the weather begins to turn and the temperatures rise, the Logothesion ton Agelon, the Ministry for the Environment, has issued flood warnings in areas that lie downstream from the mountains. It has been suggested that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's tree planting initiatives over the last few years will help to reduce the threat of flooding in low lying areas, as they have improved the retention of water in the catchment areas of the rivers in northern Arhomaneia. However, this does remain to be seen and the next few weeks and months will see this strategy being tested, when compared to previous flood management techniques.

“We are confident that the precautions that have been put into place will be able to handle any increase in meltwater that might take place, God willing,” said a representative from the Logothesion ton Agelon. “The Logothesion, along with the local governments, have spent billions making sure that Arhomaiki communities are not at risk.”

Of course, it goes without saying that these defences and precautions do not take the place of faith in God. To imagine that the actions of Man, even the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and the Arhomaioi, will be able to turn aside God's wrath is unutterably foolish. However, if these winter storms and the threatened flooding are not the Almighty taking exception to the action of the Megas Agios Basileia, then it can be hoped that defences will be more than capable of handling the tasks asked of them. His Holiness, Patriarkhes Nikolaos IX of Tzankhia, has made personal visits to many of the flood defences in and around the thema of Trapezion and has lead services blessing them, so that the effectiveness might be increased.

Greater Serbia Announces Peace Summit

Over a year ago, the government of @Greater Serbia announced that the reviled, genocidal state was going to try to come in from the cold and enter into negotiations with the countries that were enacting a blockade against it. Likely due to the fact that the Milosevic regime realised that the penalties that would be put against them would be onerous, they retreated from this course of action. It is certainly a shame that the pariah state did not take this chance to re-enter the wurld, as the cowardliness of Greater Serbia's government has just meant more misery for its citizens. And, although the totalitarian, militia-backed government has tried its hardest to keep information about just how hard its actions have hurt its own citizens, they are undoubtedly severe. Due to the lack of petroleum and other fuels, they have been forced to turn to oil emulsions and ethanol to heat their homes and fuel their vehicles. There have been reports from the state-owned media that this has caused a significant amount of environmental damage, possibly through the unfamiliarity with these technologies.

Likely, this increase in air pollution has caused unnecessary deaths amongst the young and old in the pariah state, more blood on the hands of the Milosevic regime. A generation of Serbians will have to grow up with chronic lung conditions that have been caused by the willingness of their own government to act in a savage and barbarous manner against the ethnic minorities that call Greater Serbia home. This undoubtedly is a sign that the government does not have God's favour, despite claiming to be a Christian nation. A Christian nation would not slaughter those who have yet to find God's light in such a manner, nor damage God's wurld in an attempt to avoid just retribution for their own crimes.

But the fact that the Greater Serbian government is actually taking the step of agreeing to a peace summit shows that they might find their way back to normality. It a move that has been considered surprising, they have agreed to hold the summit in the Unified @Variotan States, one of the members of the embargo. This, perhaps, shows that Greater Serbia is going to show good faith in this summit. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has also been invited to join the summit and Megas Logothetes ton Barbaron Eugenios Goulielmos is expected to attend. What has perhaps undermined Greater Serbia's commitment to any binding resolution is that the Chancellor Milosevic himself will not attend – rumours abound that he has remained holed up in a bunker somewhere due to a continued fear of being brought to justice. It is currently unknown how many of the other nations maintaining the embargo are also attending, and there is a possibility that there might well be a rift between those who are in favour of coming to a resolution and those who want to see the criminal regime brought to justice.

It is also unknown what the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion wants out of this summit and, so far, there have been no insights, either officially or unofficially. On the one hand, bringing an end to the embargo would go down well with more conservative members of the Aroman Church. However, doing so without seeking justice for the ethnic minorities that have suffered so horrendously at the hands of the Milosevic regime would severely undermine the stance that Tagmatika has taken against its own ally, the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon (@Haruspex). There would be the whiff of hypocrisy about any hard-line stance on the actions of Prathen, as one nation has been oppressing heathens and the other Christians, albeit heretical ones. Many of the nations that are taking part in the efforts to rescue the Gerenians are also embargoing Greater Serbia.

Similarly, due to the recent indications that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion appears to be trying to establish a closer working relationship with TRIDENT, there is the chance that there have been behind-the-scenes discussions to establish what the demands during the summit might be. It could be that the embargoing nations demand full citizenship rights for ethnic and religious minorities, as well as compensation to those that have suffered at the hands of the Milosevic regime. This would be inline with what the Exousiokrateia appears to be doing on its own, although it has been reported that the question of compensation to the Gerenians and the nations of the coalition has yet been floated to Gharon. In the end, it will remain to be seen what either of those nations are willing to do in order to normalise relations with the rest of the wurld.

Hagiokhristoforitissa interviews Niketas

Last week, the popular talk show Hagiokhristoforitias on the independent Arhomaiki Alfa Tileoptikoú Diktyou (AATD) interviewed Isaakios Niketas, the controversial ex-leader of the Synkletos (Senate) and the current leader of the Nea Demokrateia campaign group. The programme itself is one of the most watched TV programmes in Arhomaneia and possibly across Eurth – if only for the fact that it is broadcast in one of the most populous nations. The AATD has often been known for asking harder questions of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion than most, especially when compared to the state-owned media, and has often tackled topics in its programmes that are contentious. Examples in the past have been the continued existence of the Katepanatikion of Easteia long after the territory had seemed to need martial law and the extent of the “Anipsios” scandal within the Aroman Church.

This last programme, however, has sparked more controversy than before. It has done so for several reasons. One was that Niketas has long been considered something of an irrelevancy, as it was clear from the founding of Nea Demokrateia that the ex-Proedros was not truly attempting to campaign for wider democracy within Arhomaneia but trying to weaponise his own dissatisfaction at the decisions of the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator, may Christ continue to guide him. However, his dogged campaign had garnered him some support and it did look like at times that Niketas was acting with the best intentions. At the same time, the nature of the Niketai as one of the great families of Arhomaneia has meant that Nea Demokrateia has never gained much traction amongst the majority of the population. The loss of Kyriossa Plakidia Lukapena to Mercy International cost Niketas one of his most able staff, especially as Lukapena had wit and charisma that Niketas himself could not match.

The other is that the questions put towards Niketas by Theoktiste Hagiokhristoforitissa appeared to be very biased and leading him towards making statements that might be considered against the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. The first outburst by Niketas did not show the Agios Basileos the respect demanded of the holy role as leader of the Arhomaioi and God's chosen ruler on Eurth, but further questions appeared to be very goading in nature. Rumours have begun to abound that the questions put towards the ex-Proedros were at the bidding of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion in order to discredit Niketas. Kyriossa Hagiokhristoforitissa has so refused to comment on the matter, saying that she aims shed a light on the views and standpoints of her interviewees, not to personally attack them or lead them into incriminating statements. The AATD has also stood by its employee, emphasising that her past interviews and popularity show that she has nothing but the best intentions for Arhomaneia at heart.

This paper has put the possibility of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion meddling in the programme in order to discredit Niketas to the Logothesion ton Deeseon, the Ministry for Information. Fairly or unfairly, this logothesion is known as the propaganda arm of the Arhomaiki government. Amongst other things, it controls the Arhomaiki Radiotileoptiki Etaireia, the state-owned television and radio network of Arhomaneia. A spokesperson gave the following statement in reply: “Whilst the Logothesion ton Deeseon does give guidance on and does monitor the content of programmes on the various television and radio networks that operate within our holy nation, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is not in the habit of using private programming to incriminate Arhomaioi and certainly has not in this instance.”

Whilst perhaps there is a worrying subtext to that message, it appears that the government is adamant that it, nor its organs, have meddled in Hagiokhristoforitias or tried to attack Niketas. It is known for a certainty that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has always monitored meetings held by Niketas with members of the Eepoi, often in a way that seems to have been calculated to intimidate. Even if it was entirely off her own back, the actions of Kyriossa Hagiokhristoforitissa could show the start of a worrying trend of attacking the pro-democracy campaigner at a time when Arhomaneia is taking steps towards what he is campaigning for.

Basilikoploimon Bombs Targets on Ceris

Fanatics Threaten to Overrun Troubled Island

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has ordered the Basilikoploimon to scale back its anti-piracy operations and to strike against targets on Ceris itself. These targets are bases and troop concentrations identified as belonging to the Sentists, a group of dangerous religious fanatics that are taking over the beleaguered island. Their beliefs are esoteric and certainly blasphemous, and they are committing all manner of war crimes and outrages against the ordinary population of the island, off of the southern coast of mainland Argis. Aircraft from the BPP Agios Pantaleon, as well as cruise missiles from the BPP Heraklios, have been striking targets since last week.

At the start of the year, Arhomaneia struck a deal with a nation on the island, the Noble Republic of Secryae. The deal was wide-ranging, and involved improving and strengthening the infrastructure and economy of the country, as well as training the armed forces of the nation. The suggested aim of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion was to improve the lot of the ordinary person in Secryae, as well as trying to reduce the threat of piracy that has been plaguing the Makhaira Thalassa, the Dolch See, at its source. A carrier battle group was also dispatched to the region, which certainly helped in reducing the numbers of pirates.

However, more trouble had been brewing on the island for some time. The Sentists had come from seemingly nowhere and begun to overrun Hodrea, one of the warlord states that dominate the island. They are also spreading across the rest of the island, pillaging, burning and murdering as they go. Although at first the rest of the wurld turned a blind eye to what was going on, it has slowly become clear that it was a threat that could not be ignored for much longer. The Kingdom of @Seylos issued a call for aid from amongst its allies, and the Megas Agios Basileia has responded, quickly having the BPP Agios Pantaleon attack the fanatics, in order to prevent them from carrying out any more atrocities.

It is as yet unknown whether other nations have responded to Seylos' call. It is known that it is not just Arhomaneia or Seylos that have interests in Ceris. The western third of the island has fallen under the influence of the International Communist Economic Bloc, a group of nations who hold foolish Communist beliefs. Time will tell whether or not they cause as much damage as the warlords and failed regimes that they replaced, or the Sentists that they will fight. However, the past has shown that it doesn't take too long for the ordinary people to come to their senses and throw off the shackles of Communism and allow God back into their hearts again. In the north of the country, the degenerate Unified @Variotan States have directly annexed one of the smaller countries, acting as they do as vultures and picking off the weak to addle with their narcotics, profligacy and prostitution.

There are also signs that the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou and the Epistrategaion are preparing to dispatch ground forces to the island. Troop trains have been spotted moving towards ports and ships have been sighted in several ports. There are suggestions that these will be deployment to shore up the Noble Republic, as there are reports that the training programme of their armed forces isn't as far along as could be hoped, considering the threat looming on the horizon. It has also been suggest that a second carrier group is being dispatched, as the BPP Agios Ioulianos has moved from the Ragas Thalassa and back to the Kentriki Thalassa, the Central Sea. This will represent one of the biggest deployments of the Arhomaiki armed forces since the AdSoc War.

However, it may not be enough to save Ceris from the threat of the Sentists. There numbers are rumoured to be in the hundreds of thousands and there is every chance that they will wash over the defences of the countries on island as they are. Almost certainly, the Communists will not be able to put up much of a fight, as their Godless beliefs mean that they have little in the way of conviction or morale. Similarly, the drug-addled Variotan puppets will likely collapse in the face of adversity. It will be only the God-fearing soldiers of Arhomaneia and Seylos that will be able to stave off disaster.

Omorfoautokrateia increases Fuel Capacity

Is the Entente of Oriental States preparing to Wage War?

In recent months, the Omorfoautokrateia ton Orhionion (@Orioni) has reported massively increased its strategic fuel reserves. Whilst this could well be good planning on the part of the Orhioniki government, it perhaps reflects a more sinister scheme on their behalf. The Orhionioi have been waging a long running anti-piracy campaign in the south of Europa, and have seemingly been using it to strengthen the Entente of Oriental States (EOS) at the expense of the autonomy of the other nations that are a part of it. It seems to be less and less a multinational alliance and more a union of states, over which the Omorfoautokrateia holds sway. Not content with just south-eastern Europa, mainly the Orient and Amutia, under their control, they recently added Ide Jima to their organisation.

The last few years has seen the New Wurld become the focus of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's attention. This is not without justification – the barbaroi, heretics and heathens that populate those lands have undoubtedly caused no end of trouble. Their constant warring, whether on their neighbours or on themselves in civil strife, has regularly needed the Leader of the Free Wurld to step in and bring peace to the troubled countries. Even now, the island of Ceris needs Arhomaiki troops to turn back a wave of heathen fanatics that are on the verge of expunging what the locals think of civilisation from their lands. As well as that, the Megas Logothetes ton Barbaron, Eugenios Goulielmos, is taking part in a summit to see an end to the sanctions on the nation of @Greater Serbia, which, despite being a Christian nation, has fallen far from the Light of Christ.

However, the massive expansion in the fuel reserves of Orhioneia hints at something more. This, coupled with the spread of Mercy International, which can only be a front organisation for spreading the ungodly beliefs of the Orhionioi, could well mean that the southern Europan nation has plans that have not been as yet suspected by any other nation. Its tentacles spread all across the south of our own continent, and even further. It should come as no surprise that the @Sunset Sea Islands are also within this league of vipers, as they are always at the heart of anything that is against the works of Christ and all that is holy. This shows the dangerous nature of the EOS – it is little more than a organisation designed to further the causes of secularism and atheism across the wurld, and soon enough Eurth will see jackbooted soldiers bearing the blazing sun image of the EOS.

These questions were put to a representative of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, as this paper thought that all Arhomaioi need to know how their government is preparing to deal with a potential future invasion by the Entente, which will probably start with attempts to disrupt the fuel supply of the wurld. At first, the Logothesion ton Deeseon took some time to reply to the questions – likely, this shows the seriousness with which they were being considered, as answers had to be carefully weighed up so as to best inform whilst not giving away any secrets to the EOS.

Arhomaneia has had a good relationship with the Orhionioi in recent years,” said the representative from the Logothesion. “With regards to their expansion of fuel capacity, it seems like a prudent move in these times of uncertainty. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has been pursuing a move away from a reliance on petroleum in recent years, and this continues to bear fruit, making Arhomaneia amongst the most environmentally friendly nations on Eurth. This, coupled with our own strategic fuel reserves, means that any organised attempt to disrupt the wurld's fuel supply should not be too harmful to the Arhomaiki way of life.”

When asked further on any plans to expand our nation's fuel reserves, the representative would not comment. Similarly, the Logothesion would also not be drawn on any sanctions or levies to be put in place against Mercy International or the Sunset Sea Islands, despite it patently obvious that they are little more than snakes in the grass, attempting to undermine our ancient way of life and sow an agenda detrimental to Christianity in our own nation and across the wurld. Surely, it cannot be too long before Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God, Agios Basileos kai Autokrator wakes up to the threat that EOS poses and gathers the strength of Arhomaneia against them and dashes them to the winds.

Ground Forces sent to Ceris

The alliance between the Noble Republic of Secryae and the Megas Agios Basileia ton Arhomaion has been taken further than just an economic treaty in the last week. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has now sent ground forces to shore up the Ceris nation's defences in the face of continued aggression and expansion by the fanatical religious movement known as the “Sentists”. This group appears to be entirely driven by its heathen religion and seems to have the entirety of the island in its sights. It has made inroads into the nations of Hodrea and the Oclait, and has inflicted some appalling, criminal actions on the population of both of those nations. This has included gas attacks, the murder of civilians and even the destruction of whole towns.

The Logothesion tou Stratiotikou has dispatched a Taxiarkhon (corps) under the Taxiarkhes Theodoula Parsakountena (Noumeroi), who distinguished herself as a commander under Strategos Antoninos Traianos (N) in Easteia as a kometon (regiment) commander. The campaign there was characterised as a low-intensity conflict against insurgent forces resisting the re-establishment of the central rule of Tagmatika. Whilst aspects of the conflict in Ceris could be akin to the asymmetrical warfare faced by Arhomaneia in its western territories, the strategies used against them seem unlikely to work. These included bribing local potentates with titles and salaried positions in the administration of the territories as they were brought back into the fold. Taxiarkhes Parsakountena was known for favouring a strong response against any ambushes of her forces, which may set them in good stead against the fanatical Sentists but less so for winning over the hearts and minds of the natives.

Secryaean attitudes towards this large foreign force arriving in their country seems to be positive, which bodes well for the continued relationship of the Ceriser republic and Arhomaneia. Forces from the Palatinoi have been training local forces up to Arhomaiki standards and the local government seems to be aware of the existential threat posed by the Sentists. Perhaps more so than any of the foreign nations that seem to be determined to carve up their island into spheres of interest. The fact that the Arhomaiki forces in their country means that they will not have to weather the storm alone will likely increase the morale of the Secryaean forces and the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is unlikely to abandon its interests in the country itself without a fight.

The international response to the crisis has been swift, if not entirely successful so far. Several countries have stepped up their involvement and the Basilikoploimon (BP), the Royal @Gallambrian Navy (RGN) and the @Seylosian Royal Navy (SRN) have been striking targets in Hodrea since the start of the month and there is a small task force from the Kingdom of Seylos has been operating in the north of that country for some time. However, this seems to have done little to turn back the tide sweeping across the centre of Ceris and the capital of Hodrea, Liechenfax, is threatened by the advance of the cultists. It begins to look like that, even with the bombing campaign by the combined might of the BP, the RGN and the SRN and the ground forces of Seylos, the capital will fall within the next few days. The Gallambrian government has also sent ground elements as well, although the size and deployment area of this force is unknown.

There is also less direct involvement. Several Ceriser nations, especially in the extreme west and east of the island, have come under the influence of other nations. Seylos has brought the those nations near to it under its wing and the International Communist Economic Bloc, a group mainly led by the Workers' Republic of @Fulgistan, has established something of a union of the countries of the west. These attempts might bring peace and stability to those parts of the island but as they have yet to be directly threatened by the Sentists washing over the rest of the island. It is unknown how the ICEB's fief will survive if pressure is put upon it, as Communist nations tend to crumble at the least amount of stress, especially invaded by a foreign power.

In all, the international response to the Sentist crisis in Ceris has been chaotic and piecemeal. It has been primarily focussed on advancing the national interests of those meddling within the island rather than preventing the crisis itself from worsening. A key example of this is the annexation of the small northern country Zaspa into the United @Variotan States and then nothing beyond that. Variota has seemingly ignored the call for help by a TRIDENT aligned nation and is not even cooperating with Gallambria, the other TRIDENT member involved. Perhaps this shows that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's aims of becoming closer with TRIDENT members is not as worthwhile as had been hoped by His Majesty Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God.

Are Biofuels the Way Forward?

As Arhomaneia struggles to break off the shackles of fossil fuels and lead the rest of the wurld forward towards a greener future, in keeping with its role as God's Chosen Nation on Eurth, attention has been turned towards biofuels and their increasing use. Alternative energy, especially in renewable forms, is much preferred by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and wind, sun and even wave technologies have seen a vast boost in investment over the last decade and a half. There have been tentative steps in geothermal power but there are no truly viable sources of that within the Megas Agios Basileia. Oddly, hydroelectricity in its more stereotypical form has fallen behind somewhat – the creation of dams for this goes against the ethos of attempting to lessen the damage inflicted on God's creation. So far, the programme of investment, research and development seems to be successful. Arhomaneia has passed some significant milestones – going from a full week of all the power needs of the country being generated by renewable sources nearly two years ago to months at a time without resorting to fossil fuels. The Logothesion ton Ilektrikon has announced that it was looking to decommission all coal, gas and oil burning power stations by the end of next year and has been progressing well with this aim.

This is, of course, a great step for the future of our planet and one that every other nation ought to be looking towards imitating. It will safeguard the Eurth for the generations to come. However, it is one thing for one of the most powerful governments in the wurld to announce that it is removing its reliance on fossil fuels and getting rid of power stations. It is another for the people who are reliant on vehicles that run on them to do the same. Most people cannot afford to replace their car at the drop of a hat and businesses won't be able to get rid of their fleets of vehicles for the same reason. Even the state-owned railway company, Sidirodromoi Arhomaiki Kratous (SAK) won't have the funds available to scrap its diesel locomotives and replace them with electric ones without having to severely curtail its services as the changeover takes place. Whilst there is an electrification programme underway, progress has been slow and has focussed on express routes. It goes without saying that other aspects of the Arhomaiki state would be affected, too. Most of the vehicles fielded by our armed forces utilise diesel engines, for example, and the use of electric or hydrogen fuel cell engines has not moved beyond a paper stage.

So, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is turning towards biofuels to act as a stopgap in the meantime. Biodiesel is envisioned as being perfect for this, whether as a stopgap or as a complete alternative. This is primarily because it is completely compatible with existing diesel engines and infrastructure and can also be made from recycled vegetable oil or even vegetable oil grown specifically for its production, such as rapeseed oil. In fact, both SAK and the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou have conducted experiments into running trains and armoured vehicles respectively with biodiesel and these have reportedly been very successful, although in the latter case the Logothesion has remained tight-lipped. SAK has been operating a significant number of its freight services on biodiesel already.

One of the questions remains the production of the fuel itself, especially the growing of crops. There is the worry amongst the more environmentally minded that this is merely changing the source of greenhouse emissions, not eliminating them entirely. Studies have been somewhat varied on whether the emissions produced are offset by the growth of the crops used, with the numbers suggesting anywhere from a reduction of 18% when compared to fossil fuel based diesel carbon emissions to a reduction of 100%. This latter figure seems somewhat fanciful and will obviously be affected other factors, such as the transportation of the fuel and the methods with which it is produced.

Another question will be the crops themselves and where they are sourced from. If from within Arhomaneia, then it may mean that areas of food production are turned over to other crops for the growth of oilseed rape or even areas of woodland or meadow are made into agricultural lands – something that is surely against the green ethos of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. If it bought from other nations, then there is the consistent worry that it will be unethically sourced, from areas of rainforest logged for soya or palm oil production. That is certainly not something that our government should be considering. Similarly, there will be the worry of strategic control of the sources of fuel, as the crops or oil being sourced from other nations would mean that ultimate control is placed beyond the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion.

In the end, biofuel use is most certainly a step in the right direction. Until electric vehicles are more affordable and the infrastructure to support them much more widespread, human civilisation will have to find an alternative to fossil fuels and it is likely that biofuels are that alternative, at least in the short-term. It will certainly please God that His nation on Eurth is leading the way.

Trade Deal with Salbeia Renewed

More trade deals on the horizon?

It is perhaps not a shock that the trade deal with the Agios Katholikon Autokrateia (AKA) has been renewed. The AKA, also known as Salbeia (@Salvia) has been increasing the strength of its ties with Arhomaneia in recent years, starting in 2014, when a trade deal was signed. Since then, the ties have apparently become even stronger, especially during the Gerenian Crisis, in which the AKA has played a significant role in helping with the heretics. The a non-renewal of the treaty would perhaps have been even more of a shock than anything else. That would have demonstrated a profound break between the countries, one that neither of them would particularly want or need. Although Arhomaneia is seeing something of a period of domestic peace, the AKA has been rocked by scandals and riots, both of secular and religious natures. The latter perhaps should not be unexpected, as this would be the natural human instinct when being subject to endemic and systemic heresy, like the people of the AKA are. The Diarchic Church holds a strong sway over the political life of the Marenesian state and it is weakening through the actions of the inhabitants. Hopefully, this will allow true religion a toe hold in the nation.

The trade deal places an emphasis on agriculture, both products and produce. The Arhomaiki end primarily deals with grain and farming machinery and the Salbeiki side produce such as citrus fruits and olives. Arhomaneia has historically been one of the largest consumers of olives and olive oil, and although our nation does produce much of its own, such a deal with the Marenesian nation means that they will available fresh all year around, along with a range of fruit. Whilst exotic fruits were sourced before, usually from countries in the south of Europa, the reduction in tariffs will mean that they will be much cheaper for the average Arhomaios. This might mean that nations in the south of our continent will find themselves bereft of one of their main markets, most of them are in the pocket of the EOS, so it will be an indirect punishment for handing themselves over to the tentacles of that organisation.

It also seems that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion (ABK) is on the cusp of renewing the trade deal with the Demokrateia ton Iberikon, the Republic of @Iverica. Again, due to the historic ties with the western Argic nation such as shared military research, it would have been a surprise if the trade deal isn't renewed. The precise details are yet to be released by the Logothesion ton Kommerkiarionikou, but it is known that the ABK is increasing investment in the biofuels sector, as part of its push for more renewable energy and more environmentally friendly fuels. It will be likely that the ABK is pushing for the Iberikoi to reduce the tariffs on biofuels, which will, in turn, boost the industry in Arhomaneia. It isn't known what the Argic nation will be seeking in return but they may well be trying to get the ABK to open up to its electronics industry, as this is an aspect that Iberikon is trying to expand wurldwide. Although the nation shares the same heretical faith as the AKA, it is at least not the perfidious Elegy Corporation.

It seems that there are several aims that the ABK is pursuing with the renewal of the trade deals with the Salbeioi and the Iberikoi. Both nations are members of TRIDENT and it appears to be part of Arhomaneia's plan to draw closer with that organisation, which appears to be paying off. Iberikon is one of the leading nations in the defensive alliance and is also one of the most powerful nations in western Argis. With the decline in the alliance with the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon, a counterbalance to that nation is required. With the AKA, there are ancient ties, even if they haven't always been harmonious. It is also the state in Marenesia that most aligns with the Megas Agios Basileia, as the other nations in the archipelago tend to hold themselves to themselves.

Finally, the increase in Marenesian trade is hoped to revitalise the port of Dymafos. The southern port used to be the main port on the Ragas Thalassa under the opening of the Dhioryga tou Isthmou, the Isthmus Canal. This meant that whilst traffic through the Ragas Thalassa increased, most of it bypassed the southern port. This resulted in much of the port falling out of use and a significant increase in the local unemployment rate. The ABK is working with the local authorities to reduce fees and rates in order to encourage businesses back to the port. Due to its former position as the main Arhomaiki port, it has great road and rail links with the rest of the country.

Koussoeiki Prince Released from Hospital

Failed suicide given over to the care of ex-pat community

Late last year, an incident in the Plateia tou Agios Konstantinou, St Konstantinos' Square, shocked the whole of Arhomaneia. Or, rather, it would have shocked our country in normal circumstances. But the circumstances were not normal – Koussoeia, the old ally of our nation, had been invaded by the Exousiokrateia (@Haruspex) and was in the process of being conquered, which it still is. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion stood by, not wanted to waste the lives of the Arhomaioi to defend a country that had already collapsed by that point. It was lamentable but Koussoeia had already fallen apart, another victim of the Great Europan Collapse. Although the Megas Agios Basileia perhaps should have moved in and provided aid to the remains of our ally, the ABK had other priorities at the time.

The shocking incident in the Plateia tou Agios Konstantinou is almost forgettable when compared to what had been happening before and what was to come afterwards. An individual, claiming to be the surviving grandson of Shahanshah Janus IV, doused himself in petrol and gave a speech about how Arhomaneia and the rest of the wurld had failed his nation. The man then attempted to light himself on fire and it was just quick action by the Spatharokandidatoi, Imperial Bodyguards, who wrestled the man to the floor before he could ignite himself. The Spatharokandidatoi had been in front of the Basilikon Synkrotima Palation, getting their lunch whilst off duty, insofar as those who guard God's Representative on Eurth can be considered to be off duty.

After the failed suicide attempt, the man was taken to a nearby hospital, attached to the Church of Agios Alexios. He was kept there for some weeks as a precaution against any other attempts at carrying out a sin of such magnitude and monitored for any further psychological or spiritual issues, not including the debilitating one of not being of the Christian faith. At first, the man's contact with the outside wurld was purposefully limited, both for his safety and to prevent any foreign powers meddling in the affair. The Arhomaiki Diktyo Pliroforion and the Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion investigated the identity of the individual whilst he was in the hospital. It was eventually confirmed that the he was indeed speaking the truth – he was the surviving grandson of the last Shahanshah, Janus IV.

In the end, Shahzadeh, or Prince, Arsaka was released into the care of the members of the Koussoeiki expatriate community, who are primarily based in the port of Trapezon and focussed around Hormisdas Haakon, formerly the Axwarbed or Stable Master, a court official of middling rank. As yet, there seems to have been no attempt to crown Arsaka as the new monarch of Koussoeia and the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has made no official comment on its opinion on the matter and it has not been stated whether our government will recognise any future monarch as the true heir to the throne. However, this is likely due to the fact that the relations with the Exousiokrateia are still fraught and there is a large detachment of the Tagmata and aid workers from the Parabalanoi still working in Gharon.

It has been stated by the Demokrateia ton Iberikon that they are intending to make a puppet state of Koussoeiki origin on an island far to their west, working alongside a quasi-military organisation called “Monarch Group” – reportedly headed by a member of the Seilosiki (@Seylos) royal family, just to add an even more bizarre twist to this tale – but it is likely that this is going to be more of a Gerenian homeland than a Koussoeiki one. It is likely due more to barbaroiki ignorance than any true understanding of what is happening in the Occident and a justification of a land-grab.

No more news has come from Kouessoeiki community about how Shahzadeh Arsaka is getting on, other than he is making a slow but increasing recovery from the traumatic events of recent years. Haakon remains the focus of the community, which has grown in recent months through an influx of refugees who managed to escape the talons of the Gharoi. They are, however, being closely monitored by the intelligence services and it does appear that the ABK is attempting to tread a fine line between offering those that wish it sanctuary and not precipitating a further crisis in the Occident. May God find it that this state of affairs continues.

The fate of the Gerenians has certainly been lamentable – forced from their homes at the hands of an invasion force, their culture and history swept aside, before being put into transit camps and sent far away from their homeland. This is something that has been watched by the rest of Eurth.

Perhaps the invasion of the Endoxi Epikrateia ton Koussoeion by the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon (@Haruspex) could be construed as justified or, if not justified, then understandable. The pattern of a country collapsing due to internal or external factors and then being invaded by its neighbour, whether for peacekeeping or less altruistic reasons, is a pattern that has been repeated across Europa and even in the New Wurld. Often, the country that has been occupied is then set back on its feet and once again becomes a functional member of the community of nations, or it is annexed and incorporated into the conquering state. At times, it undoubtedly helps the population but others, it results in oppression and repression.

In the case of the invasion of the Endoxi Epikrateia, a large population of Christians was intentionally displaced by the invading Gharoi, and their long and ancient history intentionally erased. This was on the order of the now-deceased Exousiokrator, Ji'Mar, son of Sa'Karn, who was long a friend of the Arhomaioi. His son, however, was not and he and his cabal of warmongers have come to a well deserved end. Many of these Christians, of the Gerenian denomination, ended up being shipped to Arhomaneia or held in a miserable stasis in northern Koussoeia. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has attempted to make those who ended up in Arhomaiki lands as comfortable as possible, even though the winter that had passed as been one of the worst in recent years.

The plight of the Gerenians was not one that went unnoticed by the rest of the wurld, however. Other Christian powers stepped up and came to their aid. The response was truly an international one, with nations from Argis and Marenesia stepping forward to work with the Megas Agios Basileia to help the displaced population. Although all of the nations involved are not just separated by geography, but language, ideology and varying creeds, it shows that the light of Christ shines through all of these differences and when a people in peril need aid, all countries can work together to help those less fortunate.

Amongst these nations, the Demokrateia ton Iberikon (@Iverica) has set up a protectorate on an island in the North Oriental Ocean, the Voreios Anatolikos Okeanos, known as Monarch Island, Monarchia Nisos. Iberikeia is working to the advantage of the Gerenians and is endeavouring to make the settlement on Monarchia Nisos viable, so that the displaced population now have a land of their own. It is not doubted that the first years of their life on the island might be hard, but the Iberikoi will surely work to make sure that it might become a refuge from the ill-treatment and misery that they have known since the invasion of their homeland. To this end, this protectorate is fully recognised by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and Iberikeia is completely trusted by Arhomaneia, and that nation has shown that even though it adheres to the Diarchic Church, it still holds Christ within its heart.

Similarly, the Regason tou Seilosiou, the Kindgom of @Seylos (etc), has put into place similar measures, with an island of its disparate lands set aside for refugees from Koussoeia. The government of Seiloseia has yet to release the full details of this move, and if it is of a similar nature to those of the Iberikoi, then the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will equally stand with our friends in the Makhaira Thalassa and recognise the protectorate that they might establish.

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will also offer scholarships to the higher education establishments of Arhomaneia to those displaced Gerenians and Koussoeioi, in order to help them get back on their feet after the awful trials that they have been forced to endure. Whilst this is little recompense for what they have suffered, it will hopefully show them that the wurld has not forgotten them and will not let them suffer in isolation but welcome them with open arms, wherever they might go.

May God give the Gerenians and the Koussoeioi the peace and security that they so desperately need.

Efforts to Revitalise Southern Port Begin

The port city of Dymafos has often been considered the jewel on Ragas Thalassia, the Raga Sea, and one of the cradles of Christianity. It is an ancient city, at the crossroads of the Occident and Amutia, and grown rich on trade. It was long a centre of Arhomaiki power, and before that a capital of the ancient Euandrid Empire, one of the successor states of the Boy-King. The Patriarkhes still guides his flock from his palace that overlooks the harbour and regularly leads services not just in the cathedral, but from even the smallest chapels. His Holiness, Theodorankos IV, has also been keen on building cross-denominational bridges with the Orthodox Church, the Diarchic Church and smaller, New Wurld denominations, all who have small congregations in the ancient centre of our God-given, shared faith – even if perhaps the other churches have strayed somewhat from that light.

The tourist and pilgrim trade has somewhat dried up in recent years, but the peace and stability that Agios Basileos Kommodos III brought to Europa has meant that it has slowly begun to improve. It has been hoped by the Anthypathoieon tou Dymafou, the mayoral government of the city, that the recent trade deal with the Agios Katholikon Autokrateia (@Salvia) and Demokrateia ton Iberikon (@Iverica) will see an increase in foreign tourists. This has been coupled with similar drives with the nations surrounding Arhomaneia and they slowly seem to bearing fruit. Some of the churches and chapels within the city are ancient, dating to the early days of and contain some of the oldest relics still in existence and have always drawn crowds of barbaroi.

Dymafos was a major port for thousands of years and it is this aspect that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion wishes to revitalise. The construction of the Dhioryga tou Isthmou, the Isthmus Canal, was almost a deathblow to the port, as shipping started to bypass the port almost entirely. But it had been declining for many years beforehand. It was starting to not be able to keep up with the larger and larger container ships that are being used across Eurth, as underinvestment meant that the facilities were not available for them. This started to become a cyclical situation – as fewer and fewer ships came, it was argued that the decline meant that it wasn't worth expanding the port. Trade had started to be diverted either to our nearest neighbours, Sporseia and Souberina (@Suverina) and from there overland to southern Arhomaneia, or shipping companies found themselves constrained by the port facilities available to them. The other routes, overland via Adaptos (@Adaptus) or around the north of the Occident make significantly less economic sense.

Now, ever larger container ships are swinging the argument back the other way. Whilst the width of the canal was designed with the Protathlites tou Khristou aircraft carriers in mind, the new generation of so-called “mega container ships”, such as the Orhioniki-flagged UNEX Arenigwade approaches that constraint. It might not be a leap of the imagination to suggest that the next generation might even surpass the 60m width of these giants. Making the canal wider to accommodate these vast ships is likely to be, at the very least, exorbitantly expensive and significantly disruptive. Both of these are reasons why the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is unlikely to consider this as an option. Instead, breathing life back into the port of Dymafos and enabling it to take these giant vessels is likely the significantly cheaper route.

Oddly, the Patriarcheion tou Dymafou is thought to be one of the main lobbyists for the expansion of the port facilities. To an extent, the well-being of the Patriarcheion is linked to the port – the port is one of the largest employers in the city and its workers keep much of the rest of the local economy afloat. His Holiness is known to be very concerned about the happiness of his flock and feels that a revitalisation of the port would lead to more work for the ex-dockers that form a large part of the unemployed in Dymafos. As well as the happiness of the inhabitants, the Patriarcheion is also one of the main providers of welfare within the unemployed, providing food banks to the poor, amongst other services. Although no one from the Patriarcheion would comment on the matter when asked, it can be imagined that these are likely a drain on the resources of the Church and lightening that burden is something that is being aimed for.

But, of course, a modern port would likely mean automation, a trend that has been sweeping across much of Europa and Eurth – many ports in our own Megas Agios Basileia are even embracing it, although it is argued that they have little choice in the matter. An automated port, in some ways necessary for the quick turnaround expected these days, would mean that less dockworkers would be needed for its smooth running. Which, in turn, would do little to alleviate the the issues of unemployment in the southern city.

List of Banned Works Scaled Back

Although Arhomaneia doesn't usually wish to advertise it to the rest of the wurld, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion maintains a list of banned literature. Much of this is heretical writings, often from many centuries ago, and is kept away from the general population to make sure that none of them are led from God's light by long dead heresiarchs. It is known that the Katholikon Patriarcheion in Europatorion keeps a vast library of these forbidden texts to make sure that if any of these heresies rear their head again, the Aroman Church can tackle them and bring any false believers back into Christ's arms. It is closely guarded to make sure the knowledge contained within does not fall into the wrong hands, as the wurld is often fertile ground for wrong-thinking.

The Logothesion ton Deeseon, the Ministry for Information, also keeps a list of banned material, in order to aid the Church in keeping the souls of the Arhomaioi safe, as is to be expected of a government headed by God's representative on Eurth. Much of it is foreign in origin, as can only be expected. It is usually pornographic or lewd, or is considered to hold ideology or ideas that are damaging to the Megas Agios Basileia, God's chosen nation on Eurth. For example, much of the writings of Mark Karls are banned, due to the fact that it promotes revolution against God-ordained regimes such as that of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. Similarly, the perverted writings of the infamous Lysian, the Marchis de Masan, remain entirely prohibited for an Arhomaios or even barbaroi to possess within Arhomaneia, although it is unknown why anyone of sound mind would do so. It is one of the duties of the Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion to police this list and make sure that no one is in danger of being led astray.

That some such books, or even other media, need to be kept out of the hands of some individuals is self-evident. Arhomaneia isn't the only nation to do this on the Occident, or even Eurth. Megas Vourlinton (@Great Burlington), for example, maintains stricter controls on access to the internet than our own nation, something which appears to be at odds with the country's brand of unfettered capitalism.

However, recently the Logothesion ton Deeseon has deemed it fit to release some of the books and films on the proscribed list. Amongst these was a work of epic fantasy, Arkhontas ton Dakhtylidion, by Ioannes Hermeneutopoulos, an otherwise noted scholar and academic. It was banned during the reign of Theodosios VI after a period of popularity lasting from when it was published in EK7464 (AD1956). At the time, it was proscribed due to its supposed depiction of angels, as well as being about an earlier iteration of the wurld, but it has now been deemed to not go against any teachings of the Church. Similarly, the ever-popular film series, La Guerra de las Galaxias, was banned under the Navarkhokrateia for showing a militaristic regime being overthrown by an armed insurrection – something that the military dictatorship wanted to discourage. Although some suggest that the Logothesion needn't have bothered with unbanning the three prequels.

It is mainly fictional works that have been de-listed by the Logothesion ton Deeseon, as it is now felt that it is justifiable to say that it is obvious that no one could reasonably assume that these are attempts to subvert correct Christian thought. A full list of unbanned media is available on the website of the Logothesion.

This move by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is not entirely unprecedented in Arhomaiki history, as the Navarkhokrateia in its early years saw almost a liberalisation of films and media, partially as a way of distracting from the seizure of power from the elected, and therefore chosen by God, Agios Basileos Konstantios V. It could be that this is a move by Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God, Agios Basileos kai Autokrator to show that his stated attempts to reform the Synkletos is not just an isolated event and that he truly is trying to move Arhomaneia into the new century after many years of treading the same path.

Logothesion ton Agelon investigates the Dhioryga tou Isthmou

Environmental Impact of the Canal Questioned

The Dhioryga tou Isthmou is one of the greatest feats of Arhomaiki engineering ever carried out. Whilst the ancients were able to build the roads that allowed the soldiery of our nation to conquer much of the known wurld and constructed the aqueducts that meant our cities could flourish in a way unimagined by the barbaroi that surround our countries and our lands, it is the great canal that joins the Ragas Thalassa, the Raga Sea, and the Kolpos tes Stratonis, the Bay of Stratonis, that surmounts any of these glorious works of the past. Its completion at the start of the reign of his Aroman Majesty, Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God, Agios Basileos kai Autokrator has been a vast boost to the economy of our nation. Although it has meant that some of the traffic that used to the call at the ports at the north-eastern end of the Ragas Thalassa now bypass them, the long way around the northern coast of the Occident is no longer as economically viable, opening up a huge amount of trade from southern Europa.

But it has not been without its costs, and not just to the Arhomaiki ports in the south of our nation. From the start, there were worries that a route that joined the Ragas Thalassa and the seas of central Europa would have an adverse environmental impact. At the time, it was suggested that there ought to be locks fitted to the canal, to control the flow of water through it, even though the geography of the isthmus meant that the locks were not necessary for travelling through it. The idea behind these was to prevent the water of the seas mixing and preventing any invasive species from going from one to the other. This, however, was mooted by the order of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. The locks would impede the flow of trade as they impeded the flow of water, and the idea of stopping ships and putting them in dry docks to scrub their hulls clean of any flora and fauna would annihilate any economic and strategic advantage given by the canal.

In order to counterbalance any damage done to God's Eurth, the Logothesion ton Agelon, the Ministry for the Environment, was ordered to monitor any changes and keep tabs on the progress of invasive species through the canal. At the time, it was rather naively hoped that the constant passage of ships through the canal would entirely disrupt the movement of any animals. As a precautionary measure, it seems almost comical in its woeful under-preparation. However, the new Megas Logothetes ton Agelon, Presbyteros Paulos Narses, has announced that a large-scale survey will take place of both the northern Ragas Thalassa and the Kolpos tes Stratonis in order to check the extent of the movement of invasive species. This will be in conjunction with Panepistímion ton Petrion, the Hekademion and, surprisingly, the University of Canastota in the Enomenes Politeies tes Prymonteias, the United States of @Prymont.

The Logothesion ton Agelon has defended its inclusion of a barbariki institution because of their expertise in undertaking oceanographic and wildlife survey, and that the knowledge gained and shared here will help with the protection of the environment across Eurth. The Prymontiki are known for their keen awareness of the impact that human activity has on the wurld, especially since any rise in global temperature will affect their country more than many others. Much of the country lies within the Argic Circle.

“Although we are much separated by both faith and distance, the Prymontiki are motivated by the same drive to preserve the environment as the Arhomaioi,” said a statement released by the Logothesion ton Agelon. “Seeking cooperation and tapping into the expertise that they can provide is not something that we can allow to pass us by.”

Initial studies have been reportedly carried out to establish the extent of potential contamination between the two bodies of water. The Logothesion ton Agelon has remained tight-lipped about the amount of individual animals and the number of species that been found. There have been unconfirmed reports from fishermen that the Lavrakoi that are usually caught in the Kolpos tes Stratonis are diminishing, being replaced by Koiloi, a fish much more common in the Ragas Thalassa. This, in turn, has forced the beginnings of a change in how the local fishing industry operates. God willing, the survey that will be undertaken will be able to shed more light on the matter.

Arhoma hosts Conference on Arhoma

Potentially seditious meeting monitored by the Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion

The city of Arhoma is the centre of our nation, the ancient and symbolic capital of our nation, which is the chosen nation of God on Eurth. As everyone knows, the Arhomaiki civilisation is the guiding light of Eurth, both spiritually and politically. All other nations look towards us and what we have achieved. Even now, all barbaroi regard us as the model to base their nations on. This can be seen in such things as the famous Manille Arsenal in Iberikeia (@Iverica) drawing on Arhomaiki architecture, as well as many other political and administrative buildings across wurld.

It should not be surprising then that there are those Arhomaioi who wish to see a return to the past or move to a future different to the one that God has chosen for us. Last week, a conference was held in our ancient capital to discuss the future of our civilisation and what shape that might take. A range of different speakers attended, including academics, politicians and historians. The conference was not condoned by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and no-one from the government is known to have attended. It was at least partially funded by Isaakios Niketas, the former Proedros and leader of Nea Demokrateia, so the possibility of subversive aims of the conference should not be surprising. This is the reason why the Esoteriki Epitheorisi Pliroforion, the secret police, were carefully monitoring the conference. This was so that if there were any attempts to undermine the holy rule of the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator, they could be nipped in the bud.

Niketas himself stated that the conference was nothing more than a meeting of like-minded individuals, keen to promote cooperation between the nations of Europa that claim Arhomaiki heritage, as well as to pool ideas on how to promote peace between the nations. Nationals from Adaptos (@Adaptus), Sporseia, Euandreia and Salbeia (@Salvia) are known to have attended and given speeches and seminars, as well as some individuals from the breakaway province of the Hexanesia. It demonstrates the enlightened rule of His Aroman Majesty that the visitors from that province were not arrested as traitors. Agios Basileos Kommodos respected the promise of his predecessor, Theodosios VI, who allowed the Hexanesianoi to visit Arhomaneia without fear of arrest for treason. It is no more than what they so richly deserve, however.

One of the main speakers of the conference was a past leader of the Hexanesia, Ioannes Hegesinos, an ex-leader of the rogue province, who has advocated Arhomaiki cooperation in the past. Whilst Hegesinos was leading figure in a nest of traitors, he saw that a strong Arome is something that can be a force for good. He supports the intervention by Adaptos and Arhomaneia in the New Wurld, stating that it helps make our planet a safer place. His speech was reportedly on that theme, that Arhomaneia has a duty to help guide the rest of the wurld towards peace, working in cooperation with all other nations.

Other speakers promoted closer economic cooperation between the five nations, or an expansion of the agreement between Arhomaneia and Adaptos. Trade between our nation and our closest neighbour and ally is frictionless and includes an alignment of standards and regulations. It isn't currently thought by the Logothesion tou Kommerkiarionikou, the Ministry for Trade, that an expansion of the agreement would be economically advantageous for the Megas Agios Basileia, especially since the south-eastern two nations have been through some chaotic times that see no sign of abating. It also remains to be seen whether Salbeia should truly be considered as a descendent of our great civilisation, considering their geographic distance and insistence on heresy.

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is supposedly frustrated with the fact that Praifektos Orbanos, Khristoforos Florentios Praitextatos, allowed the conference to go ahead. It is understood that the Praifektos Orbanos would have been aware of the conference and what it entailed, knowing it was controversial, but still gave it the go ahead. It can only be hoped that he is praying for forgiveness for his actions. Likely, this is part of his misguided plan to seemingly secularise our ancient capital and bring it in line with the capitals of the barbaroi, as if that is something that is laudable. His actions in allowing a fashion show to go ahead was criticised by the Patriarkhes of Tzankheia but was greeted by silence by the Patriarkhes of Arhoma.

Leader of Galahindeia insults Arhomaneia

A song and music video was released by the Galahindiki musician, Aliyah Arotica, who is known for the crude content of her music and as a result is one of the foreign artists most often banned by the Logothesion ton Deeseon, the Ministry for Information. Her music is considered to be too vulgar and not fit for Arhomaioi to listen to by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, and therefore prevented from both being bought in Arhomaneia or played by radio or television stations based in our nation. Whether this manner of censorship is actually effective, either in its methods or intent, is not a question for this paper today.

Ordinarily, the Logothesion ton Deeseon would pronounce a song, television programme, book or film banned, and that would more or less be the end of it. Sometimes, the act of banning an item of media garners it more attention. However, the recent single by Aliyah Arotica, whose name this paper is prevented from reproducing, has caught a significant amount of attention for other reasons – namely, that it was filmed within a church, features a relatively obscure slur against Arhomaioi and the music video features an actor masquerading as the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator as well as the head of state of the island nation of Galahindeia (@Galahinda) , Yiu Amistacia.

At first, it was unknown whether it was genuinely the Chairman, or Proedros, of the island nation, or just another actor. It was quite quickly confirmed that it was the Galahindiki leader and this has rapidly precipitated a diplomatic crisis between Arhomaneia and Galahindeia. This is almost the only outcome that could be expected – only very rarely do heads of state genuinely quarrel with or insult those of other nations, and often only during the context of open warfare between those nations. That Amistacia chooses to do so whilst relations between the two nations are at an all time high is certainly surprising.

The actions of the Proedros appear to have caught the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion completely off guard. As soon as the appearance of the Proedros was verified, a meeting of the Agios Basilikon Vestiarion was called by Agios Basileos Kommodos III, may Christ guide him, in order to formulate a response. This paper understands that a request for the Ambassador Before the Leopard Throne from Galahindeia, Vyktoria Parker, to meet with the Megas Logothetes ton Barbaron and explain the situation has been issued. As the actions of the Proedros so caught the Arhomaiki government by surprise, it is almost unknown as to how the Galahindiki will react – it would be difficult for their government to disavow the actions of their own head of state but anything other than a full apology for Proedros' appearance in the video will seriously damage the relations between our nation and Galahindeia.

The music video was also filmed under false pretences within a church, which was readily admitted to by Aliyah Arotica, who also espoused views that could only be described as “heretical”. This will certainly anger the more conservative elements of the Ecumenical Church, and likely even those members who are more liberal. Already there are reports of a crowd of monks gathering outside the embassy of Galahindeia in order to protest the filming in a church in such a manner, the lewdness of the song and the presence of Amistacia in the video. There has been no official statement from the Church but the leadership is reported to be incensed. A knock-on effect of this will likely be that there is much more suspicion towards any foreigners who wish to film within ecclesiastical buildings and properties in the future, something that will undoubtedly cost foreign nations a glimpse into our ancient church.

At the moment, it remains to be seen what the lasting damage to relations between Galahindeia and the Megas Agios Basileia will be, if any. If the Proedros does release a full and sincere apology for their actions, then the likelihood will be that the event can be smoothed over and relations can return to normal. However, from what can be judged from the Proedros' personality and the fact that their standing within the backstabbing wurld of Galahindiki internal politics, this seems very unlikely. Backing down like that would mean that the Proedros will lose face and weaken their own position. It seems likely that, instead, they will double down on their stance and further destabilise relations between the two nations. Precisely what the next move of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will be after that is uncertain. There is the potential that the Regaseia tou Seilosiou (@Seylos) could well be dragged into the spat, as Seiloseia guarantees Galahindeia's sovereignty, as well as being a close ally of Arhomaneia.

Basilikoaeroporeia to Replace Strategic Bomber

In a move that threatens to re-start the simmering arms race in Europa, the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou has announced that it intends to procure a replacement for the Hefaistos strategic bomber. The aircraft itself was retired in EK7518 (AD2010), five years after it was last flown in anger during the Civil War. However, by that point it was long obsolete, having first taking to the skies in EK7471 (AD1963) and issued to bomber units of the Basilikoaeroporeia not long afterwards. By the time of the Civil War, most of the fleet was in a state of disrepair and in order to get two squadrons airworthy enough to carry out sorties against the rebel forces, most of the rest of the fleet was cannibalised for parts. The bombers were then instrumental in turning back the traitors' desperate charge to seize the capital and topple the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, but due to their obsolescence, the aircraft and their crews suffered heavy casualties.

Since then, the Basilikoaeroporeia has made do without any heavy bombers. It is known that the Protodoux Noumerian Triantafylimnos, the highest ranking officer in the air force, has been lobbying for a replacement for the Hefaistos in recent years. This is likely because the Basilikoploimon has cemented its role as the main method of force projection for the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, as seen in the recent conflicts undertaken by Arhomaneia, especially Ceris. However, the Protodoux is reported to have been emphasising the fact that deploying aircraft carriers and their supporting vessels is significantly more expensive than aircraft would be when deployed in a force projection role. Although it is unknown as to whether this argument was persuasive with the Logothesion tou Stratiotikou, but it seems that the government has started to set the wheels in motion for a replacement for the Hefaistos.

This planned new bomber is to be cutting edge and to incorporate many new technologies but it has been suggested by military experts spoken to by the Kidemonas that the aeronautics and armaments industries of Arhomaneia lack the expertise necessary to bring such a task to completion. Although several prototypes have been produced since the introduction of the Hefaistos, including several of the so-called “flying wing” configuration, the Hefaistos was the last aircraft of its size that became a production model. Many of the engineers and designers that worked on these projects have long since retired or even died. The same experts expect that Arhomaneia will turn towards a foreign power to help develop the project.

In all likelihood, it seems likely to be a member of TRIDENT, likely either the Enomenes Politeies tes Prymonteias (@Prymont) or the Demokrateia ton Iberikon (@Iverica) . The former has an impressive aeronautics industry for a nation of its size whilst the latter has a history of cooperation on military projects with Arhomaneia, although the last time it was a joint intermediate cartridge, nowhere near the scale of a strategic bomber.

It was rumoured that the Hefaistos was developed in tandem with a nuclear weapons programme, which was confirmed to exist under the Navarkhokrateia but was likely to have started during the reign of Leon III Theonikos. Ultimately, the programme never came to fruition but it likely did help Arhomaneia with its civil nuclear power advancements. It could be that this replacement for the Hefaistos is a subtle herald of that programme being restarted, although Kommodos III has always maintained a stance against nuclear weaponry.

It will remain to be seen how the other Europan or Eurthican nations will react to the development of a new strategic bomber by Arhomaneia. It is likely that other TRIDENT nations will look favourably on the project, especially if it is a cooperation between our nation and one or more full members of the alliance. The Omorfoautokrateia ton Orhionion could well see it as a threat, especially since relations between Arhomaneia and Orhioneia have been cool at best over the last two decades. As well as the Orhioniki, the Gharoiki will possibly receive the news poorly. Relations between Gharon and Arhomaneia have improved since Kira'Karn became the Exousiokratorissa, although they remain nowhere near the cordial level under the late Sa'Karn.

There is certainly a risk that it will mean other nations will attempt to either develop their own bombers or start developing countermeasures. This could well mean that Eurth once again enters into the fragile state that it saw during the late EK7510s, when Europa was dominated by several opposing alliances. A number of brushfire wars and armed crises took place between the alliances, which ended up precipitating that Great Europan Collapse. Even though there are certainly good reasons for the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion to seek an overdue replacement for the Hefaistos, it may result in increasing tensions across Eurth. At the moment, we have been lucky to have not seen a war between any of the existing power blocs but a new bomber might start a spiral of events that leads towards it.

May God guide the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator.

Godless Nation mocks God's own Nation

Leader of Galahindeia appears in video attacking religion and culture

In a move that was considered surprising, the head of state of Galahindeia, Yiu Amistacia, appeared in a music video that mocked not only our ancient and glorious nation, but our faith as well. At the moment, it appears that the barbaros is refusing to even acknowledge that what they have done is an insult to our nation and our people, but that it was an unprovoked attack as well. So far, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has responded by asking for an explanation for the Proedros' actions. It is understood that a reply was sent by Amistacia, although the ABK has not commented on what it contained, it seems that it was not considered to be satisfactory. So far, the relations between Arhomaneia and Galahindeia seem to be in a downward spiral, one that can only be prevented from worsening by the Proedros doing the right thing by apologising to our nation.

Galahindeia (@Galahinda) is a nation that contrasts significantly with our holy nation. It is a nation that prides itself as the epitome of taste and prides itself on being at the forefront of fashion but is in fact little more than a manufacturer of cheap tat and an oppressor of its own people. It spins a lie that it is somehow much more important than it actually is, although this has long since ceased to be the case. It is located on a convenient shipping route for voyages between Europa and the New Wurld but has stopped to be being utilised as a supply or fuelling point. Because of this, it attempts to shout louder than all others, in a weak and pointless effort to bring itself back to relevance. This is likely why that the Proedros Amistacia has chosen to target our nation, as by attacking the foremost nation on Eurth, they might turn the rest of the wurld's attention back to it.

Early explorers, travelling from Europa to the New Wurld, thought the island of Galahindeia could be the remains of mythical Adlantis, sunk beneath the waves due to falling out of favour with false gods. Perhaps it would be better if such a cataclysm struck the island again, washing away its sins and allowing the people of the island freedom from the hyper-capitalist kleptocracy that governs their lives. Most of the inhabitants suffer extreme exploitation and poverty, not unlike the kind that blights the island of Ceris, whilst the elite live in figurative and literal ivory towers, far away from the miserable conditions of their citizens. Once, it had been a functional nation, part of the family of nations of Eurth but it was taken over by a cabal of greedy corporations, who have since then conspired to prevent their people from rising once again. They also likely strive to drive faith from the island, knowing that it would eclipse the soulless commercialism that dominates Galahindeia otherwise.

There seems to be internal discord, too – there are rumours in diplomatic circles that the Galahindiki Ambassador before the Leopard Throne, Vyktoria Parker, has handed in her resignation over the actions of her own government. This, however, has not been confirmed either by the Skrinion ton Barbaron or the Logothesion ton Barbaron, nor the Galahindiki government. Apokrisiarios Parker has long represented her nation and is known to have provided exemplary service, which seems to have been poorly repaid by the actions of the Proedros. Certainly, it demonstrates the mercurial nature of the current regime, which does more to harm themselves – especially by sabotaging relations with one of their largest neighbours.

Certainly, it seems that the corporate regime fears backlash. The Proedros hosted a fashion show, in a typically frivolous display of waste, but the theme appeared to be military-based. Likely, this is the government of the God-forsaken island attempting to normalise a behind-the-scenes armed build-up, as they fear righteous retribution from Arhomaneia. At the moment, Galahindeia has little more than a privatised police force to defend its borders. Likely, they would cut and run at the first sign of trouble, since they are hardly likely to be driven by pride in their own nation, unlike the Exerkitos Arhomanos, our armed forces.

However, it is to hoped that the Galahindiki see sense and force their foolish leader to apologise to Arhomaneia and realise that their money obsessed culture is naught but a pale shadow when compared to our holy and ancient nation. The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has attempted to salvage the situation several times now, so it seems that it is entirely up to Galahindeia to take the next step.

Minimum Price for Dairy Produce Proposed

Farmers groups are in favour, consumer groups are not

In recent years, diary farmers, especially in the north of our nation, have seen a severe decrease in profits, which was has not been helped by the unusually harsh and long winter that hit the Occident. This meant that diary farmers were forced to keep their cattle in their winter quarters for much longer than normal, and in turn meant that they were not able to be put out to graze. This has forced many farmers to buy in more winter fodder for their animals, cutting into what profits that they do make. This has been worsened due to the low prices that they are increasingly forced to take from their main buyers, the large supermarket chains. These companies try to entice customers to them by offering low prices, which they then force onto their suppliers.

The farmers themselves have protested this, and the Arhomaiki Enosi Agroton, Farmers' Union, has often petitioned the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion to step in. Until now, the government has refused to give anything other than statements recognising the plight of the dairy farmers. However, the impact of the harsh winter weather has meant that the Logothesion tou Paroikonikou has felt that it has to take steps to try to improve the situation that the farmers are facing. Reportedly, Megas Logothetissa Andrea Khakonakissa, is considering several options to put before Kommodos III, in Christ the God, faithful Agios Basileos kai Autokrator ton Arhomaioi.

One of the options is to start to issue subsidies to allow the farmers to operate, despite the low prices being offered by their main customers. It is also perhaps the least favoured option, it seems, as it would merely shift the shortfall in farmers' incomes onto the state itself, not addressing the actual problem. This would then threaten a rise in taxes, as ongoing international crises have meant that our government's spending has increased past the levels of recent years. Another one is to institute a system of minimum pricing, meaning that the farmers themselves are paid a fair price for the milk and cheese that they produce. This, however, has its own detractors.

Stamatios Konstansopoulos, a spokesperson of the Omada Katalnaloton, the Consumer Group, had this to say when asked by this paper on the subject of a minimum pricing system: “Whilst the situation facing the diary farmers is certainly one that needs addressing, this would do little more than pass the cost on to the shopper. It wouldalso mean that businesses such as restaurants, not just shops and supermarkets, would have to increase their own prices.”

At least one supermarket has indicated that it might start to look into sourcing milk from abroad if the government does put into place a minimum pricing system. It would, however, be shameful for an Arhomaiki company to turn to barbariki farmers over ones from our own nation. It would be directly benefiting putting our money into foreign hands, which is almost intolerable. In all likelihood, the Logothesion tou Kommerkiarionikou would react by increasing tariffs on imported dairy products to make sure that Arhomaiki diary products are bought by companies based without our nation. This would likely cause something of a tit-for-tat scuffle in the rest of northern Europa, as other nations may respond by raising tariffs of their own. However, as Arhomaneia remains the single biggest market in the Occident, is unlikely that other nations would risk souring any trade relationship with our nation.

However, any attempt at a minimum price or state support does not seem to address the issue of the reason why dairy farmers find themselves suffering so much. Falling prices and rising costs are what is driving many of the smaller and family owned farms out of business, and these failing farms are often bought out by large-scale combines that are more easily able to bear the costs involved in farming. Some of the costs are due to the green drive of Kommodos' regime, may God forever guide him, and not just because of the government's emphasis on animal welfare and reducing the direct environmental impact of diary farming, which is one of the more polluting farming practices.

A drive towards increased use of biofuel has seen levies and taxes go up on ordinary diesel, as well as farming machinery that uses it. Small, family-owned farms do not have the spare capital to invest in brand new equipment that runs on biofuel and so are forced to utilise their older machinery, even as replacements cease to be available and the fuel increases in price. Perhaps the Megas Logothetissa Khakonakissa can see another way forward and help our farmers, not through artificial means like state subsidies or minimum pricing.

ArhomaneiaGalahindeia Spat sees No Sign of Abating

Although it has bubbled below the surface for some weeks, the diplomatic argument between the Megas Agios Basileia and the Eniaio Synkrotima appears to be on the cusp of erupting again. There are rumours, unconfirmed as they are, that the only reason that the situation quietened down was due to the fact that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion did not pick up on the refusal of Proedros Yiu Amistacia, the head of state of Galahindeia @Galahinda, to apologise for their actions. This was because the reply to Arhomaneia's request was not returned through diplomatic channels, but during a press conference in the aftermath of a fashion show. Perhaps adding to the confusion, the Arhomaiki government did not publicly call for an apology, but felt that one given privately by the Proedros would suffice, thereby diffusing the argument and allowing the barbariki leader to not lose face to their own nation.

However, it now appears that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has now issued a call for a public apology through diplomatic channels to the Proedros, although with the caveat that it can be given as a private individual, rather than as the Galahindiki head of state. It is thought that is to make the apology more palatable and to make sure that the situation does not spiral further. It remains to be seen whether Amistacia will take that step – if their previous actions are anything to go by, then the likelihood of that is minimal. Precisely what, then, the Arhomaiki government will do is unknown. The likelihood is that the relations between the two nations will continue to cool, although it does not seem that they could possibly get much worse than they currently are. However, due to the fact that this is not likely to turn into an open conflict, the worse the situation will get will possibly be a withdrawal of diplomatic representation by Arhomaneia and Galahinda, rather than any sanctions or embargoes. Who will blink first and take that step is, as yet, unknown.

His All-Holiness, Kosmas I Arkhiepiskopos ton Europatorion and Katholikos Patriarkhes was approached by the Arhomaiki Alfa Tileoptikou Diktyou for comments on the statements made by Proedros Amistacia during the press conference. When asked about whether the Proedros resembled a 'champion of the arts', his All-Holiness said this: “Whilst 'art' itself is a remarkably broad topic, the definition and perception of which changes from individual to individual, what was performed on that video was intentionally provocative, in every sense of the word apart from that which implies making one think more deeply about a topic. It was nothing more than mindless, artless pornography.”

It is a remarkably harsh statement by His All-Holiness, who has, in the seventeen years since he was installed as the Katholikos Patriarkhes, striven to act in a more accepting manner and heal the rifts that have developed between the various branches of Christianity over the past two thousand years. It shows the anger that has developed within the Oecamenical Church at the actions of the Galahindoi. It is felt by the Church that its open door policy towards foreign film crews for documentary purposes was abused for ends that mocked and insulted our shared faith. It is reported that the Church looked into retaining a law firm in Cascadia in order to investigate the possibility of a suit against Alyiah Arotica and Yiu Amistacia, although this has not been confirmed, either officially or unofficially.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the press conference, however, was the appearance of what seems to be military uniforms, manufactured by MYNE. This is the company that Yiu Amistacia represents on the Corporate Board, the governing body of the Eniaío Synkrotima. Whilst the Proedros themselves said that it was an attempt to break into the market of uniforms for other nations' militaries, rumours have flown that it is actually the start of the formation of a Galahindiki armed force, beyond the privatised security bodies that they currently possess. How this might shift the balance of power in the Adlantic Ocean is unknown. It seems that the diplomatic spat between Arhomaneia and Galahindeia may well have been manufactured by the Proedros to provide a reason for a military to be built in the island nation. It is unknown how the other corporations based on the island might react to this.

Dairy Farmer Support Draws Further Criticism

The plight of small, independent dairy farmers has become one of the major issues in the farming sector in recent years. As dairy farming is arguably one of the most polluting forms of farming, through the very nature of the cows themselves, it has born the brunt of the attempts of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion at making Arhomaiki farming more ecologically friendly. Cows themselves are a massive producer of methane, one of the major contributing gases to the greenhouse effect. However, Arhomaneia is a nation that similarly consumes a significant amount of dairy products – not just the milk in the tea that keeps the nation running, but the cheese in the sandwiches of the average working people that run our country. An increase in price of milk or cheese has always been unpopular, which has led the dairy farms themselves down the trap that they are currently in.

The Arhomaiki consumer is very resistant to the change in the price of dairy products, especially in the aftermath of the Long War, when rationing was slowly reduced. Beef has always remained something of a perceived luxury, with mutton being the main meat consumed in Arhomaneia. Even this has declined in recent years, as meat alternatives become more popular year on year. However, what does not seem to change is the fact that dairy products have always been seen as an everyday necessity. Even as the ABK subsidies arable farmers to reduce the size of their fields and replant hedgerows, which were torn up to increase the size of those fields as the mechanisation of farming intensified during and after the Long War, dairy farmers have not been able to access similar funds to try to reduce their own costs. There are options for mechanisation and even computer-guided milking methods that enable the cows themselves to choose the times that they are milked, but the ABK has seemingly turned a blind eye to these options.

Instead, the majority of dairy farmers are stuck with utilising the machinery of their parents and grandparents – often literally. Whilst the ABK’s options are still open, the two that are gaining the most traction are either subsidising the diary farmers or offering a minimum pricing. Neither of these are precisely desirable, and both have the issue of pushing the cost on to either the consumer or the state. And both of them ultimately favour the large concerns that have been springing up in recent years. Perhaps it is merely a coincidence that two of the biggest farming concerns are owned by the Zemarkhoi and the Kommenoi, two families that need very little introduction. Whilst these families have always shown that they have the best interests of the Megas Agios Basileia at heart, any policy that directly subsidies the cost of diary products or enforces a minimum pricing will benefit those great families more than any other.

It was posed by this paper to the Logothesion tou Paroikonikou that the two favoured methods for farmers to either recoup or reduce the costs imposed on them by the ABK would favour those two families and the large concerns over the the small farmer. These same small farmers have seen their costs increase in recent years, especially as the ABK has put into place taxes on diesel and machinery that they are unlikely or unable to be able to deal with, at least in the short-term. What was especially raised was the potential for corruption, as both the Zemarkhoi and the Kommenoi families remain linked to the inner workings of the Arhomaiki government. Megas Logothetissa Andrea Khakonakissa herself penned an answer.

“The Logothesion tou Paroikonikou recognises that there is the perception that any subsidisation or relief given to farmers, whether arable or livestock, will benefit some over others, especially those who have more than most. That is not our intention. Our intention is to make sure that the Arhomaiki farmer, who has long been the backbone of our nation, is not forced out of business by either competition by large-scale combines, foreign imports or the fact that our wurld needs protection from human-influenced climatic events.”

The Megas Logothetissa denied the inference that the ABK's policies were unfairly benefiting those connected to the Arhomaiki government and that the eventual policy decision was going to make sure that the ordinary farmer was not going to lose out, either due to the environmental policies enacted by the government or due to any price changes of their products that might be forced on them by the supermarkets.

Arhomaneia Steps up Preparations for Winter

Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion Determined Not to See Repeat of Last Year

Last winter was one of the worst winters on record and certainly within living memory. Severe winter storms saw chaos brought across northern Arhomaneia and lasted until late spring. Temperatures in the Trapezion, Kalamanion and Ioubaboion themata rarely got above freezing for several months. Road and rail networks were repeatedly closed by snowfall or avalanches and there were many stories of motorists becoming cut off by sudden blizzards and succumbing to the freezing weather. Villages and towns were often entirely isolated for weeks at a time, and it took major efforts by both civilian and military forces to reopen routes to some settlements. Whilst it is true of every economy, much of the north of our nation is dependent on those routes being open – sustainable logging and mining make up much of the economy and, in turn, support most of the local jobs.

In the aftermath, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion had to cover the cost of damage to infrastructure, which led to a tax rise across the country. At first, it was reported that the Logothesion tou Genikou, the Ministry of Finance, planned to levy this purely against the north of the country, before it was pointed out personally by the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator this would cause more hardship than necessary. However, this rumour has been denied by the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, which has stated that it was clear that any tax raised for the recovery of the most affected regions couldn't be raised within those regions themselves without causing further damage.

The rise in taxes, although stated to be for a fixed period, was unpopular in the south. This was especially across the Kentriki Thalassa, the Central Sea, as the weather felt there even during the depths of the winter was nowhere near as bad as in the north. There were surprising scenes of weeks of snow in Dymafos and other cities in the far south, however. In the end, the Arhomaiki sense of Christian charity won through and there were no public protests against a rise in taxes. It certainly helped that the Patriarkhai of Arhoma and Dymafos made vocal calls to support those most affected by the awful weather.

Throughout the summer and autumn, the local emergency services have been performing exercises, both physical and digital, to be able to better perform if this coming winter is as bad as the previous one. The vaunted Apelatai, the élite mountain infantry, also took part within these exercises, along with the Foussatores, the border guard, and various volunteer organisations and groups. The aim of these was to respond to rapidly to any worsening conditions and to try to rescue cut off people as quickly as possible, as well as to make sure that all of the organisations could work well together.

“Whilst at times it did stretch the imagination to pretend to be in winter conditions whilst sweltering in the summer heat, it is felt by the Apelatai that we and our civilian colleagues are prepared to face another winter like last year,” said Vounokrator Exaugoustos Apsaras, the commanding officer of the Apelatai. “I pray that we do not see a repeat of last year but I also hope that people are more prepared that last year, and are willing to take heed of the warnings issued by our holy government.”

Arhomaneia was not, of course, the only nation to suffer from the severe winter – most of the nations in the north of Europa similarly suffered. The Gharoi used the terrible weather to heap further misery and hardship on the heretical Christians that they were forcing from their borders. The other barbariki nations of northern Europa were as hard hit, if not worse, than the Megas Agios Basileia. It is rumoured that the Volskiki Demokrateia, the Volsci Republic, sank further into turmoil over the winter, with the weather presaging significant famine across the country, as stockpiles were used up during the cold months, although there have been few verifiable reports from that country since the Great Europan Collapse. To an extent, this is likely due to that fact that they have been repeatedly antagonistic to God's Chosen Nation on Eurth in the past, so they are now facing comeuppance for their actions.

Nonetheless, God willing, this winter will not be of the severity of the last. If it proves to be, it should be hoped that our citizens will follow the advice of the authorities and there will not be the hundreds of needless deaths of Arhomaioi as there was last year.

Koussoeiki Official Lambasts Arhomaneia

Leading Expatriate Appears to Bite the Hand that Feeds

In a move most within Arhomaneia would consider surprising, Hormisdas Haakon, the unofficial head of the Koussoeiki expatriate community, launched a scathing attack on the actions of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion over the fate of Koussoeia. The statements were given as part of an interview on Arhomaiki Radiotileoptikí Hetaireía, the state radio and television network. Although the state network prides itself on being more or less separate from our government itself, this may well have been a step too far. Allowing a barbaros to attack our holy nation in such manner goes well beyond an attempt to be impartial and moves towards a direct attack on our government. Indeed, due to the fact that our nation is a mirror of the Kingdom of Heaven, it verges upon the blasphemous.

Worse, however, is the fact that a group that the Megas Agios Basileia has taken in through the kindness of our hearts and Christian mercy is willing to portray their gracious hosts as almost culpable for the crimes inflicted upon them by the northern savages. Haakon was once a middling official in the Koussoeiki royal court, as Axwarbed or Stable Master. It would not be surprising to find that he was merely a fixer or supplier for the sort of hedonism that happened in the scandalous court of the Shahanshah, lurid tales of which have long been heard throughout Arhomaneia.

“Our nations were allies against the threat of the Gharoi for many years and we were abandoned by the Arhomaiki in our hour of need – both by Adaptos and by Tagmation,” Haakon said. “Indeed, before that, too. As Europa suffered one of the worst financial shocks in the history of the continent, if not the Wurld, our southern neighbours ignored our plight.”

Indeed, Haakon went on to indulge in a conspiracy theory that has been doing the rounds within the expatriate community – that the Arhomaioi allowed the crisis to spread unchallenged throughout northern Europa, in the hopes that it weakened the other nations there so that both Arhomaneia and Adaptos could then exert further influence or even attempt to conquer the nations that surround them. The so-called Axwarbed went on to point towards the Northern Europan Development Fund as evidence for this, that it represented an attempt by the ABK to make other nations dependent on Arhomaneia for their financial security and therefore amenable to political demands.

The Koussoeiki leader also suggested that this reluctance on the part of the Megas Agios Basileia to intervene forcefully against the actions by the Exkousiokrateia will be regarded by the Gharoi as weakness, especially within the Occidental subcontinent. “Because of this failure to stand up against the Gharoi, the Arhomaioi will likely face threats in the future, especially in those lands that now border the territories of my unjustly occupied homeland. They will look back on the time when they could have nipped the excesses of those enemies to civilisation in the bud and deeply regret it.”

This paper questioned the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion on whether our nation had attempted to take advantage of the crisis in Europa over a decade ago. This was flatly denied by a representative of the government. “It entirely untrue that the Megas Agios Basileia allowed the situation during the Great Europan Collapse to get as bad as it did in order to profit from it, especially as it damaged the livelihoods of Arhomaioi and our nation's economy almost as badly as it did other nations.”

When further asked about the idea that our western neighbour planned to annex the Endoxi Epikrateia, the Glorious Dominate, which would not be protested by the ABK, the representative continued: “In recent years, it seemed that Koussoeia was on the verge of collapse and with hindsight, it would have been preferable to have supported them at the time, to prevent the anarchy that boiled over. And likely an occupation by Adaptos would have avoided the refugee crisis that we have seen in recent months.”

The representative went on to respond to the suggestion that the Exkousiokrateia would become a threat to the wider subcontinent. “We believe that although our friendship with the Gharoi has become strained of late, we do not feel that any attempt to annex Arhomaioi territory is likely, whether of the Megas Agios Basileia or the Megas Omospondí Autokrateia. The lands of the Arhomaioi, whether under the Agios Basileos or the Sebastos, remain inviolable.”

All in all, the comments by Axwarbed Haakon seem to be needlessly antagonistic and it is as yet unknown how the nascent nation-in-exile that is crystallising around himself and Shahzadeh Arsaka will react towards them. Or how representative they are of the views of the Koussoeiki that live within our glorious nation.

Relations between the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion and Koussoeiki Leadership Deteriorates

In recent months, the self-appointed head of the Koussoeiki expatriate community in Arhomaneia, Hormisdas Haakon, has been a vocal source of criticism of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion's actions towards the people of his nation. Much of this criticism has been needed, if not something that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion (ABK) wished to hear. The Arhomaiki government did abandon the people of Koussoeia when the government there broke down and little outright condemnation was heard as the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon (@Haruspex) moved in and annexed that nation. The ABK has pointed out, rightfully, that it was the nation that opened its arms and borders to the Kossoeioi when they were subjected to brutal ethnic cleansing and forced transportation from their homeland. But it was counterpointed by Haakon that it was only the Christian minority that was taken in and other Kossoeioi remain under the yoke of their new overlords.

Suffice to say, this has not made Haakon popular with the ABK. This unpopularity has came to a head last week when Haakon, in the guise as one of the last surviving members of the legitimate government of the Endoxi Epikrateia ton Koussoeion, demanded that the ABK recognise him as the official head of the Koussoeiki Government-in-Exile. Haakon was appointed as Axwarbed, or Stable Master, by Janus IV, a title usually rendered as Protostrator by the ABK. Haakon has been referred to with his title by the ABK in correspondence between the nascent government-in-exile and the Arhomaiki government, which was taken as a sign of tacit recognition by the Kossoeioi, although it might actually have been a sign that it was merely doing what it felt would please the expatriates.

Until this point, the ABK has been unwilling to officially recognise any such body, attempting to play a double game of not upsetting its northern neighbour by taking any concrete action over a government-in-exile but also attempting to retain the support of the remains of the Koussoeiki government within Arhomaneia by occasionally hinting that official support would be forthcoming in the near future. This has been something that has become a source of dissatisfaction amongst the Kossoeioi in our nation, as can be imagined. They feel that they have been abandoned by the nation that has taken then them in, especially since Arhomaneia was a long term ally of Koussoeia and used the nation as a counterbalance to the Gharoi.

In an attempt to force the hand of the ABK, Protostrator Haakon marched up to the gates of the Basilikon Synkrotima Palation with an entourage of other surviving members of the government of Koussoeia and requested entry. Apparently, the ABK had been declining to respond to messages left by Protostrator Haakon. Entry was refused by the guards at the gates and eventually Haakon was persuaded to leave by an official from the Mystikon, the civil servants of the Agios Basileos, in return for a meeting at a later date. However, it does not appear that this is much more than an attempt by the ABK to push the issue further down the road. It is, however, rumoured that the ABK is considering a change of tack, that there could be a chance of official recognition if Protostrator Haakon is replaced as the head of the as yet unrecognised Government-in-Exile. Shahzadeh Arsaka is said to be making leaps and bounds on his road to recovery, although still has some time to go. Due to this, he might be the perfect head of any government, as he may yet never be in a position to fulfil a leadership role in a satisfactory manner.

The procrastination of the Arhomaiki government when it comes to any official action against the Gharoi has been noted by other countries – the Regaseia tou Seilosiou, the Kingdom of @Seylos, recently put into place a slew of sanctions against the Gharoi and called upon the ABK to react in a similar manner. Although Seiloseia was not just reacting to the occupation of Koussoeia and the refugee crisis that ensued but also the increasing military activity that the Exousiokrateia is carrying out, it is thought that many countries across Eurth are beginning to feel the same way towards Arhomaneia. It is likely time that the ABK took a firm stance against its northern neighbour, lest its hand is forced by events in Azania or the Amnalos Thalassa spinning out of control.

Sankastellinon Throws off Foreign Control of Oil

The Demokrateia ton Sankastellinon, the Republic of @San Castellino, is a small, otherwise unknown oil-rich nation in the New Wurld and has rarely been paid much attention by Arhomaneia, whether officially or through private activity. There are more salubrious holiday destinations in other parts of the glube, either in Europa or further afield. Other than its oil reserves, Sankastellinon has only ever been remarkable for its tobacco exports, and heavy restrictions on tobacco consumption were put into place during the reign of Theodosios VI. This virtually destroyed this trade between the two nations. Even official representation between the two nations is limited – the current Arhomaiki consulate is run out of an impoverished import/export emporium, which caters to a small expatriate community in the capital of Gazallenoa.

So perhaps it is surprising, then, that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion (ABK) released a message in of support of the Republic's government actions to reduce foreign control of its oil. Doubly so, when the ABK's environmentalist policies are taken into account – anything that eases the exploitation of fossil fuels is almost anathema to the regime of Kommodos III, by the Grace of Christ the God, Agios Basileos kai Autokrator. The motivation behind our government's actions are likely to not be an attempt at securing favourable access to Sankastellinon's oil reserves, but something else. Even a cursory glance at speech of Strategos Sullivan Di Foxycionni, the president of the Demokrateia, reveals the possible reason for it. It seems as if there was a trade agreement signed between Galahindon (@Galahinda) and Sankastellinon in EK7471 (AD1963) that gave the island nation astonishingly favourable rights to the Demokrateia's oil reserves, paying only 8% of the market value.

This treaty has been framed by the ABK as an unequal treaty that the Republic was forced into signing, although there appears to be little evidence of any use or threat of force by Galahindon. In fact, the signing of the treaty seems to be entirely on the head of the Demokrateia of the time, Fidel Estupidel, who appears to have been unwilling to acknowledge the nature of the treaty, although the then Galahindiki government is likely guilty of taking Sankastellinon for all it is worth.

Although arguably not wrong if take at face value, as it is overtly an attempt to support a small nation trying to set its feet on the wurld stage, that the ABK's actions are more about tweaking the nose of the Galahindoi. Far be it from this paper to suggest this is a level of pettiness that is unbecoming of the wurld's most ancient and glorious government. Instead, perhaps it can be viewed as another Arhomaiki attempt to dabbling in New Wurld affairs, along with helping bring peace and stability to the island of Ceris.

This involvement on another continent may come at a steep cost, however. Recently, Sankastellinon's government has also passed legislation that increases penalties for same-sex acts from harsh prison sentences to the death penalty, if found guilty. This undoubtedly places the Arhomaiki government in an awkward position. Its stance on homosexuality is dubious at best – same-sex acts were only decriminalised in the EK7520s under Kommodos' regime but it was a very unpopular move, both amongst the Church and the wider population. It caused a significant furore at the time, especially as it came hot on the heels of decriminalising drug possession and use. These actions caused a vast drop in support for the Agios Basileos during the Great Europan Collapse, which has only been rising again in the last few years. Homosexuality and gay rights remain something of a taboo subject within Arhomaneia. This has been the subject of several damning reports by international human rights organisations, including Mercy International, but it appears that the ABK has done little more than offer lip service about this.

Such a blatantly oppressive move by the Demokrateia is coupled with the fact that Galahindon itself is a socially progressive nation, closely allied with the Regaseia tou Seilosiou, which has a long history of being in support of homosexuality. Indeed, several monarchs of the country were gay, including the current monarch. Any further support by the ABK for Sankastellinon's actions may win support amongst the conservative majority of Arhomaneia, if framed as helping a small, Christian nation against oppression by that well known sink of inequity and vice. Continued Arhomaiki support for the Republic could set up a degradation in relations between our nation and Seiloseia. This could well throw the plans for the pacification of Ceris into disarray, as both nations are closely cooperating in combating the Sentist menace on the island. The ABK will have to tread carefully as this situation progresses.

Gharoi Deploy Force to Thalassa ton Kataigidion

Storm brews at the edge of the Sea of Storms

It is being reported that the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon, the Sovereign Imperium of Machina @Haruspex, has deployed a force to the Thalassa ton Kataigidion, known in the barbarian tongues as the Sea of Storms. It is not yet known to what end that this has been done, but the fact that the otherwise bombastic news sources from the barbaroi have not mentioned anything about this deployment undoubtedly bodes little good for the rest of Eurth. This comes on the back of their invasion and occupation of Koussoeia, which saw that country effectively blotted from the map. It involved massed deportations and ethnic cleansing, and legions of Christians driven from their ancestral homes. Many of them were put onto trains and dumped at the door of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion (ABK), whilst others were taken in by New Wurld nations. This pushed the decade-old alliance between our holy nation and the northern barbaroi to breaking point – a less wise and more hot-headed leader than our God-guided autokrator, Kommodos III, would have declared war and driven the Gharoi back to their icy holes.

Instead, Arhomaneia was able to act as the lynchpin of the efforts to rescue those displaced by the ethnic cleansing and coordinated a coalition of nations to come to their aid. Able decision-making also saw something unthinkable – soldiers of the Tagmata were deployed to Koussoeia in order to keep the Gharoiki occupation forces in line and to make sure that they did not indulge in the casual brutality common in their own frozen, Godless country. This attitude is likely due to them having to scrap over every resource that they find. In the end, Ji'Mar, the heathen ruler of our neighbours, was deposed and killed, as announced by this newspaper. This plunged the Exousiokrateia into a civil war, which saw his sister, Kira'Karn, placed upon the throne. It was hoped that she would prove a more level head than her half-brother.

However, this movement of ships may prove otherwise. Recently, the Gharoi have been making noises about increasing fossil fuel exploitation in the Thalassa ton Kataigidion and off the coast of their colony in Azania. Likely, this deployment of ships could well mark an attempt by the Gharoi to seize territory in the Thalassa ton Kataigidion, as what happened to Koussoeia. Undoubtedly, this will mean that the heathens will attempt to exterminate any sign of Christianity anywhere they attempt to annex, as they hate and fear True Faith – their misguided rulers know that it would give the wretched masses of their nation the strength to overthrow their rule.

As yet, the ABK has refused to comment on the movement of Gharoiki ships. Likely, this is because our government is waiting to see what the savages do. If they do seize any territory, it could give strategic control to the access between the northern Adlantikos Okeanos, the Adlantic Ocean and the Thalassa ton Kataigidion. This will change the balance of power in the area, as Gharon would go from an insignificant frozen waste to potentially being able to do something of worth.

And it will possibly be challenged by nations from Argis, nations such as Demokrateia ton Iberikon, the Republic of @Iverica, or the Regaseia tou Seilosiou, the Kingdom of @Seylos. Seiloseia has demonstrated pretensions towards control of the northern Adlantikos in recent months, backing up its puppet Galahindon (@Galahinda) over Arhomaneia. Likely, that sinful nation will need to be put back in its place sooner rather than later. However, it appears that they have also sent a ship to attempt to check the advance of the Gharoi.

Iberikeia, however, is a nation that has a history of cooperation with Arhomaneia. It is thought that Intreimor is planning on opening a passage between western Argis and Europa using the Argikos Okeanos, the Argic Ocean. If the Gharoi hold any of the land around where the Argikos Okeanos opens into the Thalassa ton Kataigidion, then this likely puts this potential trade route entirely under threat. It is likely that TRIDENT would not be keen on the Exousiokrateia gaining any more territory, either in Europa or further afield.

Towards the end of last week, two small fleets, centred around a Prognostikatores class light cruiser, have been sent to the Thalassa ton Kataigidion and the Amnalos Thalassa. The ABK has framed this as routine exercises, to demonstrate that both seas are not the province of any one nation, without naming any nation specifically. It is suspected that they will also be used to monitor any further Gharoiki activity in either of the seas, or dissuade the savages from seizing land anywhere else.

Exerkitos Arhomanos Advance into Hodrea

Full force of Arhomaiki might to smash Sentists

In a long awaited move, the forces of the Exerkitos Arhomanos stationed in the Ceriser nation of Sekriaeia (Secryae) have advanced across the border into the neighbouring Sentist-occupied nation of Ghodreia (Hodrea). This marks the culmination of the build-up of our armed forces in Ceris and, God willing, is the beginning of the end of that fanatical, heathen sect. Some twelve divisions, mostly Arhomaiki units but also several Sekriaiki divisions that had been trained to our army's high standards. It isn't doubted by anyone that they will smash through the fanatical rabble and free the Cerisers from the dominion of rabid religious zealots.

This force is made up of the pride of the Basilikostrates, made up of units from the Palatinoi, Noumeroi and Klibanoforoi, commanded by the famed Strategos Isaakios Akilios. As a young officer, Strategos Akilios was active in the Civil War of EK7513 (AD2005), where he gained a reputation as a brave cavalry commander with a concern for the well-being of the soldiers under his command, although did not become a household name. It is also hoped that the Sekriaiki divisions will prove useful allies, as this will be the most obvious benefit of the investment that Arhomaneia has put into the country. Likely, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will hope that Sekriaeia will be a useful permanent ally on the island.

The international coalition that has been attempting to free the island of Ceris from the shadow of the Sentists as been operating in on the island for almost a year and a half but has seen little headway in the last few months. It has bogged down, to a greater or lesser extent and has seen the island divide into roughly four parts – in the west, the countries have fallen under the sway of Godless communists. It is likely this part of the country will suffer more than under the Sentists. Parts of the northern coast, including Sekriaeia, are being directly protected by the forces of the Coalition, through a combination of ground forces and air strikes. The east is a cultural bloc with close ties to the Regaseia tou Seilosiou and as yet seems to have had little direct threat from the Sentists. The rest of the island, however, has fallen under the grip of the zealots, which has just become even tighter.

Part of the problem has been that the informal Coalition has not been keen to do much more than carry out strikes by air or from naval vessels in the Makhaira Thalassa, the Dolch Sea. This is even though the Coalition has gained strength in recent months, with the addition of ships from the Koinopoliteia tes Delamareias, the Commonwealth of @Delamaria. Whilst this has often seemed effective, often due to the television footage of large explosions, it has yet to prevent the Sentists from undertaking large operations. Recently, there was concerted assault on the northern port of Brilon, which led to the capture of a number of ageing warships that were quickly sunk by the Coalition. This could well have been prevented by a more aggressive policy of deploying ground forces, beyond a token number to protect assets or save face.

The advance by the Arhomaiki and Sekriaiki forces marks the first concerted effort to free the people of the island. The Salbeioi (@Salvia) had previously landed several thousand soldiers as an advance force for our armed forces' advance, a force that included a number of the Salbeiki heresiarch's personal guard. It is likely that the poorly armed, ill-trained and ill-motivated militia will fall apart under the onslaught of soldiers from God's chosen nation on Eurth. Arhomaiki soldiers conquered much of the known wurld and protected civilisation for thousands of years. It is not to be doubted that if the Coalition follows the lead of the Arhomaioi, then Ceris will be freed, with peace and prosperity likely following.

Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion makes Announcement at the Start of New Financial Year

This afternoon, the Mesazon, Gregorios Traiektonos, gave a televised speech to Arhomaneia at the start of the new financial year, as has become common practice in the last few years. Within the speech, the Mesazon or “Intermediary”, acting in his role as the spokesperson of the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator to the Arhomaioi, laid out the proposed spending of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion. In previous years and according to ancient tradition, this would have been put before the Synkletos, Gerousia and Senatos Arhomanos, but these august bodies have not been called to session since after the Acclamation of Kommodos III.

An excerpt from the speech follows. The full text of the speech can be seen on our website, as well as accessed on the ABK's website.

“This last decade has been a good one for us, and Arhomaneia. Whilst Europa has seen some turbulent times, our nation has, by the grace of God, been steered through the worst of it. The Megas Agios Basileia is the most prosperous that it has been within the last hundred years, and perhaps longer. Our economy is perhaps the strongest in Europa and within the top five of Eurth.”

Comments on the current political mechanisms employed by the ABK aside, the speech given by the Mesazon was upbeat. It touched on the fact that the nation's economy has grown significantly in recent years, to become one of the largest on Eurth. It also made much of the green investment and infrastructure projects that Arhomaneia has completed or started over the last few years. These alone are reason enough for many Arhomaioi to be confident how the regime of his Aroman Majesty, Kommodos III, has handled our nation through times that have seen much of Europa slip into a long decline.

The Mesazon then went on to outline the fact that taxes were not going to increase, even though there has been significant governmental spending over the course of the last year. Much of this has come about due to the forces of the Exerkitos Arhomanos being deployed to Ceris in order to combat the Sentist threat on that island. It has been suggested that the sale of the two Despotes-class aircraft carriers to the Regaseia tou Seilosiou (@Seylos) and the Agios Katholikon Autokrateia (@Salvia) has gone some way to cover the expenditure there, although it likely will not cover all of it. The programme for the replacement of the fleet air arm was discontinued the year before last and it does not seem like it will be restarted any time soon.

However, other factors mean that the optimistic tone of Traiektonos' speech must be viewed with some scepticism. Of the largest economies on Eurth, the Megas Agios Basileia has the lowest GDP per capita and one of the lowest average wages. This is something of a double-edged sword – it does mean that Arhomaneia could be an attractive place for foreign countries to set up factories in but it does also highlight the fact that, despite our nation's booming economy, much of this has yet to reach the average person. There has always been the accusation that wealth often accumulates in the hands of the great families, many of whom still have leading roles within the ABK.

What was not discussed, perhaps unsurprisingly, were the reports that the Logothesion tou Genikou, the Ministry for Finance, has suggested that the voluntary donations of funds given by the Church to the ABK become more formal. As it is, the Church's donations are payments in recognition of the state's role as protector of the Church and the Arhomaiki people. The amount of money that the Church donates is entirely judged by the Church itself, which is its right. However, the Church is one of the richest establishments within Arhomaneia. The Genikos Logothetes, Valentinian Tzimekhes, has often tried to tap into its funds but has been denied. This has, of course, made him one of the most disliked people amongst the more religiously conservative amongst the Arhomaioi.

Whilst the ABK has significant reasons to be pleased with the progress that has been made of our nation's economy since Kommodos III became the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator, work still remains to be done. As our nation's population increases, the level of infrastructure investment needs to remain at a similar level, if not increased.

Trade Deal signed with Delarmaeia

The Logothesion tou Kommerkiarionikou, the Ministry for Trade, announced a trade deal has been signed with the eastern Argic nation, the Koinopoliteia tes Delamareias, the Commonwealth of @Delamaria. The deal covers the export of iron and tungsten to the Argic nation from Arhomaneia, as well as a reduction on tariffs on agricultural products from our nation. Whilst this trade deal is something of a bare-bones deal, covering little more than a reduction of tariffs on certain products on both sides, it follows on from the renewed trade deals signed with the Demokrateia ton Iberikon (@Iverica) and the Agios Katholikon Autokrateia last year.

“The trade deal struck between Arhomaneia and Delamareia is a success for both nations,” said a representative from the Logothesion. “It will mean increased prosperity for the people of our nations, as well as a better chance for our great nations to work together towards peace and cooperation. It marks the start for a chance at greater things.”

The Argic nation, although small in size and with a much lower population than the Megas Agios Basileia, it is one of the most important economies on the eastern end of the continent, if not the wurld. Delamareia is roughly a sixth of the size and population of Arhomaneia. The Koinopoliteia is not just an economic power but seems to be growing into a local military power, too – the country is taking part in the campaign against the Sentists in Ceris, although it seems as if the country has yet to commit ground troops alongside the Exerkitos Arhomanos, the Aroman Military. It does not seem to be in doubt, however, that they share a love of peace and civilisation as the other nations that are involved in Ceris. This, hopefully, means that the Koinopoliteia will be a force for good on the wurld scene.

Undoubtedly, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion hopes that this deal will blossom into closer economic cooperation in the near future, especially as it seems that Delamareia will continue being an important player in eastern Argis. And a closer relationship between the two nations will likely be a positive one, not just for the two nations, but for Eurth as well. Both of the nations seem to have similar aims – that is, a peaceful, stable Eurth that enables everyone to prosper. However, there are still significant differences – Arhomaneia has a strong religious and moral drive behind its actions, as well as having one of the largest militaries on Eurth. Delamareia, however, is much more secular and has term limits on its leader, unlike the Agios Basileos kai Autokrator, who serves for life.

Economically, our nation and Delamareia are both similar and different. Both nations have a strong agricultural base, although Arhomaneia benefits from an economy of scale on that, and both have significant manufacturing bases, ones that are quite focussed on servicing the agricultural sector. However, it seems that the Koinopoliteia has a thriving fossil fuel sector, something that the Megas Agios Basileia is actively striving to wean itself from fossil fuels – and successfully so far. It does not seem that visa restrictions were part of the deal discussed between the two nations, although that might well be the next step in the coming weeks or months. Similarly, terms in the Salbeiki and Iberikiki encouraged mutual investment in each others' countries, something that seems to have been unmentioned in this bare-bones treaty with the Delamareiki.

Another aspect that might well be mentioned is perhaps the fact that this treaty represents little more than feelers put out by both nations. Until the start of the conflict in Ceris, neither Arhomaneia or Delamareia had little in the way of contact with each other in recent years. The Koinopoliteia is one of the many patches of Lysiki settlement around the Adlantikos Okeanos, Adlantic Ocean and for much of the last few decades the attention of Arhomaneia has been turned inwards towards Europa, and usually central Europa at that. However, in the last few years, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has begun to see beyond northern Europa, in a way that the government of Theodiosios VI or the Navarkhokrateia did not. Old alliances, such as the ones between Iberikeia and Salbeia, have been renewed and the alignment with the TRIDENT military alliance has been established.

In all, it seems as this agreement will mark the start of a closer relationship between the two countries. Ideally, they will also be an influence on each other – Arhomaneia will be able to teach Delamareia to place a greater value on faith, whilst the Argic country may well be able to show our country better and more vibrant business practices.

It has come to the attention of the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion that the precarious situation in the western Occident has taken a turn for the worst. After it seemed like the disagreement between the Regaseia tes Megas Angleias, the Kingdom of Great Anglia, and the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia, the Social Democratic Confederation, was starting to head towards mutual understanding and agreement, the situation as deteriorated rapidly and to a shocking extent. The invasion of the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia is an act of uncalled aggression and does little to help stabilise the situation in western Europa.

Western Europa has been the site of significant turmoil in recent months, from the invasion of the Endoxi Epikrateia ton Koussoeion (Cussia) by the Exousiokrateia ton Gharon (@Haruspex), to the increase in tensions in the Amnalos Thalassa due to the supposed activities of pirates. It can also not be forgotten that Europa has seen a hard and painful decade that only a few countries, such as the God-guided Megas Agios Basileia, have been able to weather. Added to this was the background of strain and hostility between Megas Angleia and the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondia. It had seemed as if this latent hostility was beginning to ease and that a peaceful resolution was within sight.

Therefore, the Megas Agios Basileia ton Arhomaion can only condemn this act of aggression on the part of Great Anglia and encourage the withdrawal of their forces from the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia. If the government of Megas Angleia does not take steps to cease hostilities between itself and the government of the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia, then the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will be forced to take steps to make sure that Angleia ceases aggressive acts against its neighbours. This could include, but not be limited to, economic sanctions placed against individuals, groups, companies, corporations and governmental bodies of the aggressor nation. They will be used to target the ability of the aggressor nation to wage war and will include, but not be limited to, blocking of trade in raw materials, finished goods and most certainly arms and armaments.

Despite this warning and the threat of sanctions shoud the situation continue, there is still a chance at a peaceful resolution to this situation. Because of this, and the fact that all should treasure a peaceful wurld, the Megas Agios Basileia would be willing to act as a mediator between Angleia and the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia. This has been communicated to the governments of both nations and all should pray to God that this is accepted. Through this, an equitable situation can be found that suits all, although it could be expected that the situation deteriorates day by day and the chances of a peaceful solution become less and less likely.

In the meantime, in order to make sure that trade between Arhomaneia and the rest of the wurld, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion suggests that ships moving through the Amnalos Thalassa remain outside of the territorial waters of both the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia and Angleia. The small flotilla of the Basilikoploimon that is operating within the Amnalos Thalassa to monitor the threat of piracy in that sea, headed by the Prognostikator-class BPP Mantis will supervise the situation, in order to make sure that there is no threat to international shipping posed by this conflict.

Should the situation spread, or international shipping be threatened by the conflict, then the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is prepared to reinforce its presence in the Amnalos Thalassa. This will be to make sure that trade between central Europa and the rest of the wurld is not broken by this conflict. At this stage, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is still confident that a peaceful solution to this conflict can be found and that both Megas Angleia and the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia can be restored to peaceful coexistence.

May God see to it that peace is restored in the Occident.

The Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is shocked and appalled at the actions of the so-called “Transitional Government” of the @Sunset Sea Islands. This group appears to have undertaken a coup and toppled the technocratic and secularist regime that ruled the Aktinovoli Demokrateía tes Dytikithalassas, the Radient Republic of the Sunset Sea Islands. Whilst is no secret that the government of Arhomaneia did not always see eye-to-eye with that of the Dytikithalassa, it is shocking to see a previously stable and orderly government toppled. Compounding this, one of the first acts after overthrowing the democratic regime was to expel all foreigners from the islands, within a very short time frame.

Whether through thoughtlessness or as a deliberate act, designed to sow panic and chaos, the new regime has shown itself to be callous and uncaring of the effects its actions are causing. Therefore, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion wholeheartedly condemns the actions of the “Transitional Government” and feels that its actions cannot be seen to be in line with the civilised nations of the wurld. They are perhaps more akin to rogue states, not a nation that was once a lynchpin of the New Wurld economy.

The aims of the “Transitional Government” are unknown. It is not known whether this represents a backlash against the ever-increasing presence of the perfidious SYNAPSE System, which has demonstrably been a failure from the start, a God-inspired attack against the secularism that dominates the Sunset Sea Islands or something more sinister. It can only be hoped that the situation is brief and the country returns to a sense of normalcy and regains its place as one of the leading nations of Eurth. At the moment, all that can be done is to make sure that Arhomaioi are not harmed during this act of wilful disruption of the very fabric of life in the Dytikithalassa.

Therefore, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion requests that all Aroman citizens present within the Dytikithalassa must make their way to the embassy in the One Wurld Centre. There, members of the embassy under the ambassador, Herakleos Athalarikhos, will endeavour to get any Arhomaioi out of the country as swiftly and safely as possible. It is not known what will happen to any foreigners that remain in the Dytikithalassa after the time limit has elapsed but it is likely best not to put it to the test. Due to the intervention of the Demokrateia ton Iberikon (@Iverica), may God bless that country and its people, the harsh timetable imposed by the “Transitional Government” has been amended – ports and airports will be kept open for an undefined period to allow foreign nationals to leave. That does not mean that any Arhomaioi should slow their exit from the islands.

To this end, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion has dispatched several vessels of the Basilikoploimon to Thalassa and western Alharu in order to help with the evacuation of its citizens, as well as those of other nations. However, these vessels are unlikely to arrive within the time frame put forward by the so-called “Transitional Government”. Every effort will be made by the Arhomaiki government to extract its nationals and their dependents and the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is working hard with other nations, especially those of the TRIDENT nations, to make sure that the situation does not worsen.

As yet, it is too early to say what steps might be taken against the “Transitional Government” for the actions it is carrying out. It may be that this is but a brief, knee-jerk reaction to attempt to cement a poorly-supported coup. The situation is still fluid and the rightful government of the Radiant Republic may yet regain control. Due to this, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will hold off putting into place any sanctions or embargoes until more information is known, or it becomes clear that the architects of the coup are malevolent in their actions or intents. Until that point, the Arhomaiki government feels it necessary to state that any Dytikithalassoi that are within the Megas Agios Basileia may wish to remain there if they so want and the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion will take steps to make sure that they are not threatened or coerced in to doing anything counter to their wishes.

May God guide the wurld through these troubling times and see to it that the people of the Dytikithalassa are not punished for the acts of their government.

In light of the deteriorating situation in the southern Occident and western Amutia, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion feels that it can no longer sit idly by and watch it unfold. Whilst the Megas Agios Basileia did attempt to mediate between the governments of the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia and the Regaseia tes Megas Angleias, this was ignored. This alone shows that the government of Megas Angleia did not wish to see a peaceful end to that conflict. Now, the Sosialdemokratikí Synomospondeia has been subsumed into the Regaseia tes Angleias.

This is not something that the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion recognises. Indeed, Arhomaeia will continue to recognise the government officials that fled to the Regaseia tou Seilosiou (@Seylos) as the legitimate government of the nation. Not whatever regime will be installed in Tarentum in their stead, whether it be one of military occupation or one of creatures gathered up from sycophants amongst the locals.

Now, the situation has spread and worsened. The border dispute that has existed between the Megas Regaseia tes Souberinas and the Demokrateia tou Kyptou since Souberina annexed the western seaboard of Kypton several years ago has ignited. It does appear that Kypton struck first against the Souberinoi but, equally, the threat posed by the new military alliance between Souberina and Megas Angleia was likely too much to ignore. All parties are at fault in this – it has long been known that the Kyptiki people and government have chafed at the annexation of territory that they regard as theirs and, equally, that the ethnic Souberinoi who live there struggled under repressive policies whilst the territory was part of Kypton. This caused the brief conflict and annexation of what had been the western Kyptiki provinces. However, open conflict – or, indeed, smouldering civil violence – is not the way to bring this disagreement to a suitable conclusion.

Due to this, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion is taking steps to try to bring the three nations involved to the table, in order to find a peaceful outcome to the situation. This is to take the form of embargoes against the Megas Regaseia tes Souberinas, Demokrateia tou Kyptou and Regaseia tes Megas Angleias, which are as follows:

  • A ban on the sale and export export of arms, ammunition and armaments to the four nations involved.
  • A ban on the sale and export of raw materials, including but not limited to iron ore, coal, seed oil, petrochemicals.
  • A ban on the sale and export of foodstuffs, agricultural goods, farming machinery, transport equipment, heavy machinery.
  • A ban on the sale and export of automotive parts, vehicles, machinery.
  • A ban on the sale and export of computer equipment, software, hardware, telecommunications equipment.
  • Freezing of accounts and financial exchanges relating to the governments of the nations and members of said governments.
  • Any vessels, military or civilian, registered in or part of the navies of those nations will no longer be able to use the Dhioryga tou Isthmou (the Isthmus Canal).

It is hoped that this will prevent any of the nations involved from pursuing aggressive war against any of the others. The embargo will continue until all of the nations have returned their forces to their positions at the start of the conflict and meaningful steps are being taken to ensure peace continues. This could take the form of Arhomaiki peacekeepers in the region, to make sure that warfare does not spark again. If steps towards peace are not taken, then the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion reserves the right to increase the severity of the sanctions until such a time as the involved nations realise that peace is in their best interest.

And, similarly, a line must be drawn in the sand, past which those involved do not step without calling down further consequences upon their heads. As such, the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion, people and Church of Arhoma do not wish to see this conflict spread. It may be that other nations around the Occident and Amutia may be drawn in, or eyed up by opportunistic powers involved in this conflict, especially the smaller ones to the north of Kypton or the slumbering giant to the east of Megas Angleia. These are Arhomaioi and Arhomaiki lands. They will remain as such and the Megas Agios Basileia will take action if conflict spreads to them. Be this a warning to those involved.

May God bring peace back to Europa and Eurth.
