Serious OOC Forum

It seems we have a bunch of people who are interested in talking seriously on some topics. Especially with the kind of conversation going on right now over in nationstates, which appears to be including some people who don't come around here.

 

The draw backs can (and almost certainally be) that people will get to into the conversation and get mad over a conceptual dissagreement. The argument could spread to other parts of the board on other topics.

 

At the same time.... it might be worth the risk if someone was there to police (as in difuse) any tense situation that may develop.

 

Any thoughts?

again, another request for a discussion forum about real life.

 

how about just calling it 'Discussion' and we can discuss current news events, current NS events, and not have to go off topic to do so

Indeed, the idea has come up,.. and it's not a bad idea. However, at the latest redecoration of the forum I wanted to make one, but I could only find 1 topic about RL events (the tsunami-thread), and that's not quite substantial enough to create a forum. We don't have much of discussions about Iraq, Afghanistan, terrorism, the middle east, Israel/Palestine, Neo-cons, racism, immigration,... Though, there is a quite interesting discussion on the regional HQ now about socialism vs fascism.

Exactly, and I think if there was a place to do it, people would be more likely to have the conversations, rather than risk going off topic.

 

(There was also a topic about a European- though I can't remember who- going on holiday in the US)

thats why it should be called the Flame room! just to let you know that people will be hot and attacking one another with flamethrowers. but seriously these will be touchy topics and arguments will break out not matter what they WILL break out. people will get pissy with one another. thats why in forums for years, no matter the topic, have had flame rooms. that way if you enter into a flame room you would know what to expect. and if you didnt want to argue you would simple not go in. all flame room topics are just that, flames, and should not even think of spilling into the regular forums there for making the rest of the forum fire proof. its kinda of like the RP, i think BN is a great guy and a hella map maker but in RP im talking about blowing up his commercial planes. do you think we are gonna argue about this in other threads? no. simple, its an RP and stays there. this is how flames and the flame room will work as well.

If we're talking about serious things in an OOC-forum, that's a little different...just take the socialism/fascism-topic.

 

I'm a conservative democrat and I hate both systems. So, let's say, I'm talking to a hard-nosed communist. First we argue, than we are just fighting and at last we get blunt:

 

Tamurin: "Your system is just crap, praise the lord, it's gone."

Hard-nosed Communist: "You ignorant &!)"?, you'll burn when the revolution comes!"

Tamurin: "Just keep talking your &?(!=, I'll continue laughing..."

...

 

I was once a member in a political forum, and you have no idea what happens when supporters of Bush and supporters of Bin Laden (or Israel and the Palestinians, or Christians, Muslism and Attheists etc.) start to "talk"...

 

The thing is that this is not an RP, it's stuff which most people take very serious. A religious belief or a political agenda may be very important to them, perhaps the core of their existence. There will be bloody struggling - and it WILL spread to other topics...

If their beliefs are important enough to them to get them very angry when somebody challanges these views and ideas in an OOC forum, these views are bound to affect their actions in other areas, such as in the RP forums. Such as if someone was a hardcore (an example) Socialist, these views would affect how they ran their nation and in the RP forums, just as it would if they were extremely religious.

well no its not an RP. its a FLAME. see that word? thats where it all boils down. if a forum states there shall be no nudity or porn posted anywhere on the forums, no one posts porn right? if they do the mods get it and take apporpiate action. getting mad at one another and flaming in other rooms and boards would be against the rules. if someone broke the rule a mod would step in and take action. without somewhere to vent these arguements are bound to spill over, take the Socialism vs Facism thread. allready more than 4 people have been a tad touchy. that will spill over to the rest of the forums because of the fact its in the general thread (used to be one of the more popular boards). if their was a flame room these arguements would be contained there. with everone knowing it would be against the rules to flame or flamebait outside the flameroom no one would do it. sorta like the porn rule eh? there needs to be a flame room so people can vent if they want. rules should be put up and there should be a mod.

Yes, I do agree with your flame room, it probably would be the safest option, cos its going to get colourful otherwise.

if its within the flame room thats fine but once it spills out is when we have issues. and if a "a hardcore (insert religion or political idea here)" as you put it was to be so easily offended then, if they read the rules, would know of the types of posts and stay out of the flame room.

Pot, the idea of a seperate flame room might be good, but this won't work like an applet in a Browser...

But, it's your (as in plural) decision. I decided to stop my participation in those topics. My political opinions are very different from those of others; and I've no intention to begin fighting with everyone. I still like all of you...

Thats where the mods would come in to play. Even though i only know of the RP mod seeing that O is an admin. but if we had forum mods (like the supermod) they would insure everything is on the up and up. the mods job is to protect the members and keep the forum threads clean. And when it does spread a mod will be there to smack the bejebies outta whoever breaks the rules.
