Update: It has been decided that our contest will be called the EurthVision Song Contest.

2. Hosting Bids

We're looking for players willing to host an international music competition. Besides having the honour of being the host nation, you will be responsible for providing a venue and welcoming participants. If there are multiple bids to host this event, the person to make the strongest case for their nation will be selected by public vote. Some relevant examples of earlier stories include:

3. Contest Signup

Why reinvent the wheel? The description of earlier NationStates Song Contests helps explain how a contest like this is run. Here is how to participate:

1. SIGNUP. To start, you must sign up for the contest. Do so by using the form below and posting that you sign up in this thread. Make sure you sign up before the cutoff date. You won't be penalized if you sign up and don’t end up posting a song. You then post the song in the IC thread after a host vote (see previous contests to see what a "normal" post looks like).
2. HOSTING. At the end of the host bidding period, all nations which have signed up at that point may vote for the nation that will host the contest. Instructions will be posted by this account, and all host votes should be telegrammed to this account as well. The winning bidding nation will then create the IC thread.
3. ROLEPLAY. The contest is based upon the Eurovision Song Contest: nations will RP the performance of their song. No real-life song can be entered into the WorldVision Song Contest; of course, the melody can be used (usually linked via YouTube). At least 80% of the song’s lyrics must be original, and translations are not allowed. Nations are free to choose to host a national final or internally select their representative. English is not compulsory, and other languages are encouraged.
4. VOTING. Once the IC thread has been posted whenever the winning bidding nation chooses, nations will submit songs before the deadline. After the deadline nations may not edit or alter their song in any way, unless otherwise instructed by the Committee. Also, after the deadline and any interval act (wait for the signal from the host nation), nations vote, ranking their top ten songs in the following format: 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 in the IC thread. Nations may not vote for themselves. All nations that post a song in the IC thread must vote.

So, obviously, I'm in. In regards to rules, sign up sheets and whatnot, I suggest we look at the WorldVision Song Contest and the World Hit Festival that are held on the regular NS forums. These have existed for years (especially WVSC) and the rules are basically easy yet rigid enough to properly enforce. https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=414503

In regards to the name, I think something like EurthVision would do perfectly. EuropaVision would make more sense in regards to the region name but seeing as Europa is only one continent of Eurth, that'd be strange.

I'm definitely down for this. I wouldn't mind hosting, and I do have a national music festival coming up in the summer that I'll write about in my newsroom - EuropaVision or whatever could be the grande finale if I'm chosen. 

As for the name of the contest, I propose Euravision - like Europa is Europe but with an 'a', Euravision is Eurovision but with an 'a' too. Original, I know. However, I like @Variota's idea of EurthVision too, and I'll also steal his sign-up format.

Nasionale Sang Wetstrijt voer het Eer fan Het Huisselant Variota
National Song Competition for the Honor of Our Homeland Variota

 

With the glorious nation of Variota deciding on a first time participation into the [Name To Be Added], under lead of its state television station NTSV, it remains unknown for the Variotan public and those within the domestic jury to see what is popular and can score at the contest. As such, NTSV and the Nasionale Fonts voer het Sicht fan het Kaltoer Variot (National Fund for the Promotion of Variotan Culture) have decided to set up VarioVisie, a National Final with a distinct and separate domestic and international sections.

The domestic section has decided on three artists and songs for the international juries to vote on. These international juries have been picked to include the people that are closest to the musical tastes of their nation, imagine popular artists, record studio bosses, television presenters, social media socialites and much more. In their role as the international voice within VarioVisie, they will vote on the pairings of artist and song in a way that provides the most points to their favorite and enables both nuance and a clear winner. Each jury member will receive a nice gift basket containing pure and natural products coming from 'het Huisselant'.

When all international juries have decided, the results are thrown together and the domestic audience is able to vote between the two most popular pairings, effectively eliminating one of the possibilities and potentially giving Variota a much better chance at winning the contest. As the set-up of VarioVisie is fairly simple, let us continue to the artists.

 

Artists:

Keltterrakkers - Pillen en Swag

There isn't a tween and teen left in Variota that does not know the Waltlooper twins, Boris and Boris. The winners of Sang fan Variota, NTSV's premier talent show, in 2012, they were coached by Auwe Rukker, self-proclaimed Boytoy of Variotan Pop, and toured both Variota and other nations multiple times following their win. Their first album, 'Geluit fan het Keltter', and the pre-release single 'Kus fan je Mam' went platinum and became the first step towards success. Since then, they've scored hit after hit and recently won the Kewastemere Music Festival with their mentor and close friend Auwe Rukker. Now, they've set their sights on participating in VarioVisie and attempting to duplicate the success they had at the Kewastemere Music Festival into winning at [Name To Be Added]. Ready and hungry for the win, these boys bring the best of Variotan teen pop.

Their song, Pillen en Swag (Pills and Swag), tells a deep and connecting story of being in the nightclub and enjoying yourself. You and your squad are on point, slaying the dance floor and wooing the women and men into submission. Your secret? Pillen en Swag. Feel the heat of the beat as you grind your teeth and show some impressionable drunk tourists what partying with Variotans really means. You are the man, the legend, the person that could make the Sausage Section but decides not to so that others won't be too embarrassed to sign up after you.

 

Hete Henk - Kom Maar

The man, the legend, the only thing in the Pink Pony seeing more action than the bathrooms and dance floor. Henricus Kolewasser is a well-known face throughout the world, even if many of those that recognize him will not say so. A Sausage Section success story, Hete Henk has played in blockbusters such as Hete Henk and the Twenty-Two Midget Sailors, the Prison Parts Trilogy and Soldier Sixty-Nine: Torture is Fine. Recently seen more and more partying with Dina Diva, a situation made easy by the fact that his contract includes free drinks in the Pink Pony, Hete Henk is becoming one of the prime examples of the new style Variotan socialites and one to watch. Smart, hardworking and willing to pull strings to get somewhere. While he has no experience in the music business, he has managed to join VarioVisie as he represents the layer of Variota that is the guilty pleasure of everyone.

His song, Kom Maar, is an upbeat and fun song about being on vacation. Your wife has been turning older, wilting away while you remain in your prime, you remain the best man you can be. You just want some fun and who can blame you? No one can, everyone wants to have fun. And sure, you have a bi-curious side. Who doesn't? It's really the only reason to go to college anyway. You're sitting by the bar and that's when you hear the magic words, Kom Maar, that lead you into a night of wild and no strings attached fun with the boy of your dreams, none other than Hete Henk.

 

Fabuleuse Filo het Fuller - Hey Yo

Opper-Geen'raal Filomedes Jonkheere of the Propagatie en Morraalmagt is an iconic figure within Variota. Discovered while working a market stall selling fresh sausages, filling the sausage casings, Fabuleuse Filo has a long history within the Variotan music industry. One of the largest Leeffessang artists, he was invited by the Huisselikke Aanfals en Protektiemagt to fulfill the position of Opper-Geen'raal (Upper General) of the Propagatie en Morraalmagt in 1992 after his predecessor died. The man has remained one of the largest artists, taking a prominent position during the Pierraate Leeffesfestein, and while his hits have slowed somewhat down due to his duties, every person in Variota knows the lines of atleast one of his songs. His extravagant costumes, personality and stage presence have led Nasionale TeleSicht Variota to invite him to participate in VarioVisie.

His song, Hey Yo, is a fun but light song that does not pretend to be some deeper message, some morality that one should hold themselves to. Hey Yo is all about celebrating the looks, the vocals, the presence of its singer, Fabuleuse Filo. From telling you to take a good look to telling you about his great legs and buttocks, Hey Yo celebrates Filo and, when you sing it, celebrates you. Hey Yo empowers you to see the good in yourself, particularly the visual good. People aren't turning their heads to see you walk? Hey Yo them.

In collaboration with the government of the United States of Prymont, Northern Music Entertainment (NME) are deeply honoured to put forth the United States' bid to host the first global song contest, EurthVision! NME has worked closely with event organisers across the country to find a suitable location to host EurthVision, and we've come to a provisional agreement with the Canastota City Council. If the United States were successful in securing the bid, NME would be able to provide the services of the OstportX Arena, the largest indoor arena in Prymont.

Built in 1999, the OstportX Arena has a capacity of 20,000, and has hosted national and international events before such as Prymont's Year 2K Party, the 2003 Argic Tennis Championship Finals, the Argic Heavyweight Boxing Championships since 2005, and multiple concerts from various global artists including Foolish Bandit and Leon Haugen. 

The city of Canastota is also the largest city in the United States, with over two million inhabitants. The city can comfortably accommodate over 2,000 delegates, journalists, and spectators in a variety of four and five star hotels. The Canastota International Airport is the second busiest airport in the city, which maintains two runways and four terminals. In recent years, Canastota has received over ß100m in funding from the Transport Ministry to improve its infrastructure, and can offer cheap taxi, bus, train, metro, and bicycle journeys by using the country's unique Salmon travel card. 

Canastota, Ostport, and the United States in general offers a rich, deep, historical culture, one of fascinating tales and exciting endeavours. Since the formation of the United States in 1995, the country has strived to appeal globally as a rising hub of culture and entertainment. While motorsport is held dear in the hearts of many, the people of Prymont are also fans of music, performance, dance, and diversity. Hosting the 2018 EurthVision song contest would open the possibility to bring thousands of visitors to enjoy the fun and excitement that Canastota has to offer. 

NME has allocated ß15m to host EurthVision, and believes that the United States will benefit further than that from tourism and culture boosts. In the name and heart of EurthVision, NME is also considering the potential of hosting annual national song and talent competitions, to inspire locals to bring out the best in themselves and entertain the nation. Canastota would also offer cultural days, allowing people of varying backgrounds and histories to line the streets and show the best of Prymont. NME are dedicated to bringing out the best that the country has to offer, and believes that hosting EurthVision will only support our cause.

Northern Music Entertainment have also contracted Noah Marshall, who performs under the alias Foolish Bandit, to represent the United States of Prymont in EurthVision 2018. The global entertainer, with millions of fans worldwide, has recently released his third studio album, Inspire Your Love, and will perform the new single You & I for Prymont's song. Marshall was born and raised in Canastota, and currently stars in, writes, and directs a TV comedy show of the same name, displaying the lives of aspiring Canastotans. NME is confident that Foolish Bandit is the best man to represent Prymont, and will bring much needed attention to EurthVision.

"What do you mean they already started!?" Alyani shouted from the shower.

"What's that?"

"I said... why have they... Oh, never mind, Lisbet," she answered. "Just turn up the volume on the tv, will you? That way I can already listen to it!"

"Just hurry up and get here already!"

Tonight, Alyani Palmer was the last one to use the communal shower. Unfortunately for her, most of the hot water had already been used up by her roommates. So she had to rush. But even when rushing, she still missed the start of the 'Nasionale Sang Wetstrijt', the absolute favourite show among her student friends. 

Alyani was nearing the end of her year of studying abroad. @Variota had a good reputation for economics. So it came as no surprise to her parents when she applied for a year abroad in Ferrefaaierhafen.

She quickly dried off, changed into her pyjamas and on her slippers ran down the hall. Her friends were already gathered around the television. "Move over Lisbet! I'm squishing my butt in there right next to you."

The channel was set to NTSV. Presenter Cor Wilm Heukroot was wearing another hilarious glittering outfit. He reminded her of a younger Milton John, the eccentric pianist from @Girkmand. "Oh! My! God! The Corster looks amaaaazing as always," she blurted out sarcastically. "This would never ever happen back in Orioni!" The eclectic Variotan style of not-giving-a-fudge had really grown on her. Yes, Alyani felt right at home in the Huisselant.

The first act of the evening was the Keltterrakkers twins, Boris and Boris. "Uuuugh..." A big sigh explained how tired everyone was of hearing their overhyped song. Lisbet said it best: "They were like cute like way back in like 2012 but now they're just like weird." Her classmate Emily added that: "I heard from Phil that Ivan had seen them at an underground dance club last Friday. But they're still underage, right?"

Next up was Hete Henk. "Oh yes darling, I can listend to you sing all night long, hahaha..." Was Lisbet getting tipsy already? Only 10 seconds into the song and girls were jumping up and dancing on the couch. "Come on Henkie-boy! You've got this!" Alyani grabbed her phone and texted #2 as her favourite choice to the number in the bottom-right of the screen. "If Henkie wins these finals, you can be sure he'll win this whole EurthVision contest as well," she gasped. "Haha look at Alyani," laughed Lisbet, "She's already creaming her pants! The way he moves and dances and shakes his tight little ass. I bet you want him, don't you? Hahaha!" Everyone could see Alyani's face turn red, but she didn't care: "Hete Henk all the way, honey!"

The last candidate for tonight was the already larger-than-life phenomenon of Filomedes 'Filo' Jonkheere. "You gotta at least respect Filo for doing what he loves," said Emily. "Oh shut up Emily," Lisbet sneered, "Can't you see this man is clearly waaaay past his prime?" Alyani wasn't so sure: "The song is alright but it's not as catchy as Hete Henk. I'm sticking with my Henkie."

After another round of shots, and twenty minutes of Cor Heukroot urging people to support their favourite artist, the three girls agreed on their final ranking.

As the chief forensic scientist of the Central Bureau for Public Safety of the Sunset Sea Islands she was entitled to do her job however she wanted to, as long as she did it. Usually, the way she fulfilled her tasks was more than unconventional, but her quirky and lovable personality made her popular with everyone in the bureau. Now, her eyes were glued to one of the screens in her office. As a young girl she used to travel a lot. The Commonwealth of @Variota had earned a special spot in her heart. Never could she forget the long nights she spent in the pulsating clubs of Ferrefaaierhafen. It was only natural that she was interested in who would become the artist who Variota would dispatch to @Prymont to compete in the EurthVision Song Contest.

When she saw Cor Wilm Heukroot,  the presenter of the show, she tought that they would get along great. Their clothing styles were equally flamboyant and she immediately felt her sympathy for the Variotans reignite.

Rebecca let out a long "Awwwww" when the first song came up. The Keltterrakkers twins always made her heart melt. Those boys were just the cutest things ever. "I don't care what others think about them, they are kawaii as frick! Who cares if they play around with some weird stuff in the depths of Ferrefaaierhafen, they're young for Pete's sake! That's what we all did at that age! Computer, send a message to the VarioVisie hotline voting for number one!"

Next up was Hete Hank. Although Beccy really loved the song as it made her think of the Sunset Sea Islandian beaches and the never-ending parties of the Variotan seaside, it could not overcome her love for cute little boys.

The last contestant was Filomedes 'Filo' Jonkheere, but Rebecca was only listening with one ear.

She noticed that her coffee went empty meanwhile. "Wellp, time to get some caffeine and cut up some baddies!" Rebecca laughed before sprinting to the coffee machine.

Short reminder for @Shffahkia, @Derthalen, @Girkmand, @Cristina and @Orioni that tomorrow today is the last day of EurthVision. So far, only three songs have been performed and it would be a shame if the final selection was only between those. (Although I shouldn't be the one to point this out since I've barely managed meet that deadline myself, lol.)
