Through a very elaborate process of stumbling from site upon site, I came across this nice and tidy list of questions on worldbuilding. These can be very helpful if you're starting out exploring the many aspects of your nation, or, if you've already established your lore, to further delve into the details.

The list goes into much detail, including:

1. The world
2. Physical and historical features
3. Magic and magicians This doesn't really apply to our world, unless, for example, you would like to prosecute fakers as heretics
4. Peoples and customs
5. Social organisation
6. Commerce, trade, and public life
7. Daily life

I'd also like to throw my two cents in right here and offer up a couple of Nationstates-centric worldbuilding guides written by a former member of the Future Tech community and myself. While it is geared towards sci fi, many of the points are still relevant.
