World War 3? How a Third World War Will Look Like?

Always interesting to read about simulations. Here is one of them: World War 3? How a Third World War Will Look Like? (SciVenue, 17 Nov 2017) Not the best article out there, but something to get the discussion going.

How do you think a simulated world war would take place in Europa? @Orioni

Good question @Synturia . That would be fodder for an RP discussion.

1. Exchange internationalism for nationalism. Blame foreigners for problems. Create emotional political rhetoric. Find a scapegoat.
2. Invest more money in defence spending. Expand the military. Promote loyalty to the nation and leadership.
3. Find some good casus belli. Whip your nation into a frenzy. Either wait until your opponent fires the first shot (out of self-defence), or invent a reason for action.
4. Watch events snowball from there. Mutual defence alliances are the way to turn things into a World War.

@OrioniDo you think we should have an “alternate universe” where all our countries are engaged in a world war? I think it’s be interesting to see how we would interact without messing with things in “canon” Europa lore. I think @Derthalen would be interested in this concept.

The major issue I see with world wars in Europa, an issue which also affects lore consistency, is that there are no global powerhouses. Sure, there are powerful nations, such as Orioni or Vocenae, but they're just local. There's no conflicting Soviet Union or America. Our world is way too balkanised for world wars.

I suppose the world wars that would ignite in Europa would be more akin to WWI or WWII. Only after WWII did those superpowers gained prominence.

Which would mean that the victors would probably rather puppet than annexe people, as, as previously stated, even Europa as a continent is heavily balkanised.

@Sunset Sea Islands Can you provide some instances how our world is “way too balkanized”?

Suppose our world is too balkanized, would that not give way for even a small alliance or even a reasonably powerful nation to “steamroll” those balkanized countries towards domination? Then this could pave the way for the remaining nations to band together to stop such oppressing nation?

@SynturiaWe have no big blobs. No US basically spanning across a whole continent, no Russia/ USSR as a counterpart, we have dozens of small and medium-sized nations. Either one nation needs to start subjugating others or we need diplomatic masterminds to create alliances which span across areas as wide as the US or the USSR.

The diplomatic thing is already happening actually. There are talks of establishing large military alliances. Speaking of which, @Ahrana, @The Hellenic Rus, and any other authoritarians out there, would any of you be interested in forming a faction?

This is, uhm, going slightly off-topic from what I had in mind. I was aiming for a discussion on the RL possibilities and scenarios. But don't let that halt your other ideas.  If you're talking about world war, there can only be losers.

I plan on pulling an America and keeping the war far away from my shores, while also selling copious amounts of stuff to my allies.

@Sunset Sea IslandsI wasn’t saying that the world war sim in our world will be anything like a WWIII-Cold War gone MAD between two superpowers scenarios as you have pointed out repeatedly. I do however agree with you on how one nation would need to subjugate their or form superpower-like-alliances, similar to WWI or WWII

I would gladly be a part of your coalition. However, the Hellenic Rus and Ahrana are in tough waters due to miscommunication of Ahrana's neutrality. Hopefully we could amend ways though.

Well I am not certain as to who might fit the bill. Really, I was hoping that anyone interested in wars would have seen this and have spoken up about joining in. First thing is first. We need to get everything defined and planned out, then we can start making everyone nervous.

Understood. If there is anything you want my nation to do then I shall gladly help in your alliance. BTW what is this alliance about? Is it just a military alliance or is it for the sake of What would happen in Europa WW3?

It is an insurance policy. Basically, it is more of a mutual defence pact that will keep us all safe from aggression, but as we get bigger and stronger it can and will be easily turned into a means of reducing the burden of warfare and the amount of time it takes, be it for aggressive purposes or as an act of intervention.

For my nation it will be the final bit needed for me to officially expand my military back to full strength, and for me to tear up the peace treaty that currently binds me. (Soon I shall increase my military to the point that it will encompass 4% or 5% of my population!) It will also further my goal of keeping the Europans out of my affairs and out of the continents in my hemisphere.

There are a few analysts out there who say WW3 has already started. Cyber security, is huge right now, and there are a myriad of events every day which could constitute 'attacks'. Much of which is state sponsored. Very little of which you'd be surprised is actually Russian. Most coming from the far east.
