This is the official news service established by the Imperial Government to keep the public up to date on ongoing events and military news. All radio broadcasts from unknown sources of possibly foreign origin are to be noted and reported to your local Inquisition.

 

All broadcasts will be played twice daily at 0900 and 2100 with new stories being added to the second broadcast. Casualty reports will not be broadcast, but will still be posted at local constabularies and town halls.

Fighting in the Free Cities continues to rage on, with collateral damage increasing by the hour as rebel soldiers continue to hold out for reinforcement and hide in the sewers. After the rebels' initial mistake of fielding pikemen during the Battle of the Rock, they seemed to have learnt their lesson and have adopted new tactics. They have now taken to ambushing civilians and military personnel in order to capture more equipment and information. All persons travelling in this area should only do so in large convoys and avoid the woods and rivers near the contested cities.

 

At 17:05 yesterday, the Imperial Senate voted against the conscription of soldiers from the recently reconquered Condominium of Rukonen und Konn. Many senators cited the fact that the region had sustained terrible losses already in the war and as such could not be expected to field any more men. This was met with high amounts of resentment from the peasantry in Derthalen and Vestragrel as many men were lost trying to reclaim that territory from enemy hands, and now, even more grain will have to be diverted to help feed the people.

 

In other news, the Imperial Navy has been seeing exceedingly high rates of success in their blockade of the revolting territories. Just yesterday they managed to catch three rebel blockade runners attempting to smuggle in things such as steel and gun powder. These successes are expected to severely hurt the rebels and their ability to continue on this war.

After several months of intensive street to street fighting in the western most of the Free Cities, the Imperial Army has announced a total victory against rebel forces in that region. The deaths are still being counted, but official estimates say that 29 in every 30 people killed were in league with the traitors. A triumph is expected to be held in three weeks' time in the City of Ustraman as a show of the Imperial spirit and in honour of those who liberated this most loyal region from the misguided rule of the traitors.

 

The Emperor has recently spoken about the pathetic military state of the Sunset Sea Islands, and has even gone so far to say that it would take only three days to conquer them. Many military experts have gone on record in saying that the Emperor was being too generous, and that we would be done by lunch time. There are unfortunately no plans in the works to spread the Imperial realm, as it is much more important to liberate our fellow countrymen currently experiencing hardship and famine under the rule of the rebels.

 

Due to the continued success of the blockade of rebel territories, it has been decided to send a detachment of 75 warships to investigate activity in the waters around the Sunset Sea. This action was prompted by the unusual increase of warships from the Empire of Orioni in this region, and is being done to safe guard against a now assumed Orioni invasion of the islands. May the Emperor's light guide those fools to the righteous path.

 

Finally, a large number of troops have been transferred to the command of March-Lord [Redacted], it is very likely that an invasion of the rebel stronghold of [Redacted] will be taking place. The sheer beauty of such an array of fine soldiers is enough to make any man cry. The war is expected to be over by the Winter Solstice.

The Imperial Navy detachment of 15 squadrons sent to help secure the waters of the Sunset Sea have arrived this morning. Ship captains say that the crews are on high alert as the barbarians from Orioni might attempt an attack at any moment. They are also saying that the enemy seems to have had second thoughts on an invasion, as there has been no sightings of their invasion army as of yet. The navy will maintain their watch over those waters until the barbarians have been driven off.

 

Meanwhile on the home-front, the Army High Command has decided to begin issuing Alemannisch and High-Gothic to Low-Gothic dictionaries to all military personnel, as it has recently become apparent that none of our soldiers happen to speak the language. Full implementation is expected by the end of the month, but in the meantime troops will have to continue trying to use High-Gothic and interpreters to communicate with locals.

 

Ration riots have finally ended in the capital region. After a series of bloodless encounters between the hungry peasants and the army, news about newly captured farmlands has reached the capital. The boon to food production this entails has led to the government increasing the ration to three loaves of bread, a pound of cheese, a quart of milk, and an entire sausage. This new ration will be implemented in a weeks time, as the Imperial Census Bureau and the Army Logistical Corp will first need to take a count of the captured grains and foodstuffs, along with animals and farmers.

 

To add to the good news, the first extended leaves will be granted to service men starting next fortnight. Members of the Imperial Army will be granted three months leave, while members of the Imperial Navy will only be receiving a month's leave for the time being. All personnel will be expected to report in to their local constabularies or town halls at least once every five days, and will be restricted from leaving their regions of birth without prior authorisation. Unfortunately for those who's homes are still held by the rebels, they will have to either ask to go home with a friend, or will be required to stay in the nearest military base and its local region.

 

Finally, new legislation passed by the Imperial Senate has led to the formation of the Imperial Orphans' Bureau. This new government agency has been tasked by the Emperor himself, to find all orphans and abandoned children and put them into government run homes and schools. There they will be cared for and educated, so as to allow them a fair chance in life. All of the boys will be educated with military service in mind, as that will offer them the best chance for advancement in life and so they might repay the Emperor through service.

The Imperial Navy has begun a week long bombardment of the last remaining fortifications in ?stragrel, and has ordered the use of the Luftstreitkr?fte to weaken the enemy forces. This is all in preparation for a final push by March-Lord ?rstermann into the rebel capital region. Roughly 120,000 men have been gathered for this final campaign, and will be marching into enemy territory by next week. With these men comes the Emperor's peace.

 

After a series of communications with the Sunset Isles, the government has announced that no Orioni invasion will be taking place, and that our forces will be withdrawn from the area and return to fighting the rebels. This was met with general disappointment as many soldiers and officials had been looking forward to a new war.

 

The Imperial Senate has announced the beginning of an Imperial Derthaler Starfleet. This was met with general confusion and disdain from the public, but the government insists that this is a necessary endeavour to protect our people from the foreigners and the Xenos. The stated goal has been to establish military supremacy amongst the stars and to spread Mankind in conquest of the universe. The first orbital rockets will be constructed soon. If successful, proper plans for establishing military outposts will be drawn up.

 

There have also been reports of a new experimental nuclear powered ramjet in development. This has led military officials quite perplexed, as new defences will be required to defend against attacks from aerocrafts with this technology. The general mood has been one of irritation.

 

Finally, the sudden increase of available food as led to a large drop in prices. People everywhere are now buying food stuffs, and there have even been reports of an increase in pregnancies. This trend does not seem to be ending anytime soon, so the government has already begun allocating money towards the education system and improving existing infrastructure to accommodate the expected baby boom.

This is a special announcement.

 

The Imperial Senate has decided that the development of nuclear weaponry is needed now. It was decided after much deliberation over the effects of the nuclear reactors which were detonated in Meinitzmark, and how they managed to annihilate the barbarians in the near by areas.

 

With these new weapons, wars will likely never be the same again. The development of tougher radiation resistant materials will also be needed if our soldiers are to be expected to fight along side radioactive weapons. This shall be a great undertaking.

 

For now, Meinitzmark is being rebuilt and refortified.

After a long period of deliberation, the Imperial Heinrichstadt Stock Exchange has been opened up to the international community. Large celebrations are being held in the financial district, as bankers and investors prepare to start exploiting the international markets. The Derthaler Engineering Company, and Fire & Brimstone Company have already been put onto the international stock market. Other companies will be expected to follow soon.

 

Reconstruction in Meinitzmark of the defences and nuclear power plants has been continuing at a steady pace, with the first of the plants coming into operation yesterday. With this, the government has started up plans to privatise the ownership of the plants. The stocks are expected to hit the market in around two weeks' time.

 

The military high command has now authorised the use of prisoners of war as labourers in the reconstruction of liberated territories. Misgivings from local garrisons were eased after they were informed that they would be given machine guns to control the prisoners with. Prisoners who do well can be expected to receive immediate paroles as long as they take oaths to never bear arms against the emperor again.

 

Finally, food production is expected to more than triple with the introduction of a new pesticide referred to as Compound No.1227. Production of the substance is expected to reach peak efficiency in thirty-two days, with full distribution being expected in four months. The Minister of Agriculture has drawn up plans for poorer farmers to receive free shipments of the pesticide for the next year, so as to allow for them to recover from the war. Surveyors will be dispatched in a week's time to inspect all of the farmlands.

The Imperial Senate has recently announced a project to form a standardised measurement system with the state of @Prymont. The names of measurements will of course not change, but their precise definitions will soon be decided upon and brought into line in both countries so as to allow for greater cooperation and understanding. The changes will be brought into effect as soon as the new definition are decided upon in by both governments, and will require that all defunct measuring tools be replaced as soon as possible. Government officials will be expected to convert land grants and other such documents into the new measurements.

 

At 14:05 yesterday, the Imperial Senate announced that the state of rebellion has come to an end. The last of the rebel forces have been subdued, and the civil war may now be put behind us. After a long campaign our forces under the command of March-Lord Ûrstermann have finally conquered Östragrel, and the last of the Östragrel Hawk Faction have been executed for their rebellion. Thousands of people came out to watch the rebel leaders be hanged from the capital city's walls two days ago, and they are apparently to remain there until their bones are picked clean and have been bleached by the sun to a pure white.

 

Technologically, the first prototype nuclear ramjet  engine was successfully tested at ground level last week. This success has marked the first major proof of concept for the technology, and has encouraged military observers with its progress. The Luftstreitkräfte's investment in this new propulsion technique will soon allow them to create fighters and bombers of unstoppable speed. That said, there have been concerns raised over damage to an aerocrafts superstructure that could be incurred by the simple act of turning too quickly. Possible solutions include the usage of swept-back wings as opposed to the more common swept-forward design.

Today at 1100, the Imperial Senate began a new debate over whether to expand the education budget and implement Proposition 11A2. If implemented, it could mean that children will have to spend at least five and half days in school no matter their parents desire. It will also mean that all children will now be mandated by law to stay in school for six years minimum, which has already angered many of the conservatives and those against a more centralised state. The debating period is expected to be over in three days, and to be voted upon by next week. More on this as details emerge.

 

A few days ago, the Emperor issued a powerful proclamation after receiving a threatening message from the state of Fleur de Lys. As of now, all ships, aerocraft, or terrestrial vehicles from this nation are to be fired upon and captured on sight within our territory; their citizens are to be made slaves, and branded as such as soon as found; and our vessels are all to assume a state of heightened battle readiness as soon as they come in contact with an enemy vessel. That said, they are not to engage outside of our territory unless provoked by the enemy first. These protocols are to be observed until ordered otherwise.

 

In other diplomatic news, a historical non-aggression pact was signed with the @Sunset Sea Islands, which went into effect two days ago. Any persons found to be in violation of this treaty will be tortured and executed for their crime. All units are to regard military and civilian personnel from that nation with suspicion and nothing more. They are not to be fired upon unless they have clearly violated our territory and have attacked us first, and even then only if authorised by a senior officer or if the situation absolutely demands it. If they are found within our territory, they are to be either seized and taken to a secure location, or escorted back out as soon as possible. They are to be escorted out only if their entrance into our territory was observed and if their incursion was within twenty yards of the border. Otherwise, they must be captured peacefully and searched to ensure they are not spies or carrying out some other sort of mission. You are to report any encounters as soon as possible to your commanding officers.  Their citizens are not to be enslaved, but are instead to be handed over to a member of the Imperial Inquisition. To reiterate, there is to be no aggression against the Sunset Sea Islands and its citizens; anyone in violation of this will be executed; enslavement of their citizens is not allowed; and fear the Inquisition.

 

Finally, the Imperial Navy is planning on commissioning a new fleet of transport ships and aerocraft. These will be used to move our forces to far away battlefields, and to help spread our reach. Their construction is expected to begin this week, and will most likely be finished in six to nine months.

This is a High-Gothic emergency news broadcast to all troops.

 

Initial reports have indicated a plague has begun to ravage the lands beyond our borders. Scouting missions by air and by land have confirmed this, but more importantly they have brought back troubling descriptions of the dead rising and feasting on the flesh of the still living. Due to these bizarre reports, all units are to be placed on high alert. All personnel are to effective immediately report for active duty and are to equip type three hazardous environment uniforms. 

For the Infantry:

• You are to then proceed to your defence positions according to the Winter Contingency Plan and General Plan Aleph. Radio reports will be required every ten minutes from rings Saint Thor to Borim. All other rings are to report in at 20 minute intervals according to standard procedure. If targets are spotted and do not answer challenges, they are to be shot immediately no matter who they are or what their appearance.
• Be advised, any non-essential travel after the first two hours will be strictly controlled. Mine fields and other traps will have already have been deployed at this point, thus rendering on foot travel without proper guidance impossible. You are to make certain that you have already reached your proper rally point before this happens.
• No matter what direction you hear fighting from, or how close the artillery shells are falling, you are not to abandon your positions until the order is given. We must destroy as many of these abominations as we can.

For the Doctors:

• Until the disease has been identified and a treatment determined, you are to kill any who show signs of infection after exposure to the infected.
• Type-5 quarantine protocols are in effect. All equipment must be burnt or otherwise cleansed if it is suspected to have come into contact with the disease. Any break from protocol could be fatal.

For the Artillerymen:

• You are to remain at your positions at all times for the next forty-two hours. Full combat gear will be required, and at no time are you to allow any personnel into or out of your vehicle except if doing so under direct order from a Major or higher, or to correct an issue that has rendered it impossible for you to fulfil your orders.
• All orders are to be obeyed without hesitation, including those to fire open friendly positions. Doing so will save lives.
• Gas shells and high explosive shells are to be used only with confirmation of the co-ordinance.
• The artillery parks are to be defended at all costs. No matter who they are, you are not to allow anything within a hundred yards of the outer perimeter.

This is an encoded message to all senior personnel and forward operating units, any unauthorised persons listening to this will be executed.

 

For the Forward Operations:

• You are to blow up, burn, or bulldoze what ever is outside of our border. Anyone not with us is to be destroyed on sight, and then burnt immediately. You will only have a few hours to complete all of your objectives before the dead horde is upon you, you must not be there.
• Once the line of fire has been cleared, you are to take up your defensive positions immediately. It will be you elites who will be responsible for taking on the enemy horde first. If your positions are to become untenable, you are to die at your posts by your own hands. The mine fields and standing orders make retreat an impossibility.
• You are to hold the line.

For the Senior Officers:

• Be advised, the military high command has authorised the usage of all weapons for the foreseeable future. If a position is about to be lost, it is your job to decide when to have it shelled or doused in flames for maximum effect. Do not allow sentimentality or compassion to cloud your judgement, those men are currency, and you must spend them well.
• Though this should go without saying, you are not to inform the men of when they are about to be overrun. You are to keep those soldiers fighting for as long as possible, and are to do so any way that you deem to be effective. Summary executions of cowards or examples are authorised for use.
• If the rings do not hold, you are to retreat to your properly designated bunker or fort and are to fight there till the bitter end.

It was announced today by the Imperial Senate that for unknown reasons, the Empire shall be supporting the Europan state of @Sa Hara after they managed to capture territory that is 'holy' to their foolish religion. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of War have both stated that we will recognise their claims to this region, and that we will intervene on their behalf if any are so foolish to question it. As such, the Army High Command has begun to set aside regiments for deployment. Listings shall be announced via regimental news letter in the weeks to come. 

The Imperial Navy is expected to be dispatching advisers and a few ships to the area in order to help train the locals in the ways of seamanship and to secure the coast from forces that might appear.

 

Casualty reports from the ongoing war in @Afropa have started to be published. Due to initially high losses, the Infantry Cohort VIII and the Desert Raider Cohort II have been consolidated into the first Jungle Fighter Cohort. Due to their experience, the over manned unit will be sending back veteran Jungle Fighters to help train new volunteers in the homeland before they are shipped to the front. New uniform patterns and designs are also now being manufactured for soldiers, and will be shipped to the soldiers at the front within the month. Reinforcing troops will have to be delayed until they have been refitted with the proper equipment.

 

The second of the new nuclear power-plants is expected to be finished in two months time, and will be brought into operation as soon as basic operational tests have been completed. The new molten salt reactor has been criticised heavily by military officials due to its low projected yields for if it were to be detonated, but is otherwise expected to help considerably with powering the fortifications on the border as well providing energy to the newly rebuilt towns in the area. Its ferrocrete fortifications and bunkers should help protect it from enemy assault and damage.

 

Finally, a delegation from the foreign state of @Ahrana including their monarch is expected to be arriving shortly. Their aerocraft will be met thirty miles outside of our territory and escorted to a secure military base. They are not to be fired upon unless they deviate from the flight path by more than a mile or begin to make to evade our escorting aerocraft.

The Minister of Internal Affairs along with other government workers was proud to announce a new imperial infrastructure bill which will be mainly focused on land clearance and the planning of future cities. This was after the final tally came in from the Ministry of the Blood Tithe as to the amount of population growth from last year. According to the latest census report, the overall number of subjects has reached a total of 19,180,914. Due to dropping prices of food, and other commodities, the population is projected to increase by 3.2% by the end of this year as well. 

Military officials warn that the current levy system will have to reworked in order to accommodate the projected increase of soldiers. The Minister of War has yet to decide on whether to expand the existing military facilities and stockpiles or to possibly begin putting maximum levy numbers for each region.

 

In the northern march ongoing construction of fortification lines has had to be stopped due to previously unknown cavern systems being found. Geological experts and engineers have begun conducting soundings in order to map out the exact extent of these caverns. Until then, expansions will have to be shelved until the stability of the ground can be accounted for. Temporary storage camps are already being erected to house the munitions and weaponry intended for the lines.

The intended garrison are already being assigned civilian duties in order to keep them busy in the meantime. 

 

Despite obvious overtures of violence from @Adaptus, the Imperial Senate has refused to issue attack orders stating that 'their pathetic attempts at brinkmanship shall not be allowed to inconvenience us'. This has naturally been received coldly by the most honourable Admiral of the Fleet Lamen Gans. The admiral has this to say: 'Their paper ships are clogging our waters, we should burn them till there is nothing left.'

 

Finally, after the unfortunate destruction of the monarchy in @Ahrana, the new communist regime has finally embraced the light, and is allowing their pitiful masses a chance at redemption through conversion to the Imperial Truth. Members of the Ecclesiarchy and Imperial Inquisition have been dispatched to the Reichskommisariat Ahrana in order to help the colonial government with their holy mission to spread our faith to the world. The Imperial Government has also begun to liberalise the requirements for outward migration to the colony.

Special News Bulletin.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Imperial Senate have announced the start of a new tripartite military pact with the nations of @Ahrana and @Greater Serbia. In response to this, the government has announced an official end to limited armament and has begun the process of raising approximately 180,000 men who shall constitute the bulk of a new field army for this alliance. Further more, the Minister of War has announced plans for the immediate construction of eight new joint military bases which shall be garrisoned by allied troops, along with plans to increase the number of men in the reserves by double. Similar bases are expected to be constructed overseas in due time. All regional armies will be expected to give up a third of their veteran reserves for immediate use in the near future; assignment to training facilities will be coming through shortly.

Due to the stability seen in the coastal region of @Sa Hara, the military high command and government no longer feel it necessary to maintain our naval presence there any longer. For this reason, all ships currently patrolling the area along with troops attached to said ships will be recalled immediately once they have finished resupplying for their journey home. These forces will be expected to arrive home in approximately four weeks time, and as such preparations are underway for their return. Maintenance and refitting will commence right away.

Finally, on top of ongoing restructuring efforts, it has been announced that a further four companies will be placed into rotation for guarding and securing the Emperor's Road. Ongoing skirmishes along the line are expected to become more intense as time goes on, and as such all units will be equipped with heavy weapons teams to further bolster effectiveness. Proper unit cohesion is expected to be achieved within three months of the composition change, any units struggling to adjust will need to be pulled from duty immediately for inspection.

Despite initial resistance, local tribes within the local area where the Emperor's Road is expected to be built have been successfully pacified through military action. With this success, the Imperial Army's Corp of Engineers has begun the initial ground work to begin expanding the rail network outside of our borders. New fuel depots are being planned along the route and temporary bunkers have been garrisoned for further safety.

 

Inclement weather conditions are expected to worsen for the next fortnight as the last of the late winter snow storms batter the northern provinces. Further in the south farmers are waiting expectantly for the arrival of the spring showers which are expected to arrive any day now. Overall, you should expect plenty of cloud coverage precipitation no matter where you are stationed. Heavy fog should be expected in the mountainous areas as well torrential rain.

 

The Imperial Senate has announced an end to food rationing will come in a week's time, but have yet to give any indication whether coal limitations will be lifted anytime soon as well. Iron and bauxite mines have been informed to expect heavier orders from the government for the year, leaving the civilian market with an acute demand for resources. Currently companies are experimenting with the mass production of tin pots, baths, and other goods to make up for the scarcity. Demand for fur has also gone up in clothing, and prices are expected to triple over the coming months.

 

In the Reichskommissariat @Ahrana there has been a reported uptick in tourism to the nearby Commonwealth of @Poland-Lithuania, with travel their capital of Krakau being quite a popular choice. Government officials are not bothered by this latest development, but do advise those wishing to travel to watch out for pickpockets and other suspicious foreigners while abroad. The loss of travel documents should be reported immediately as well.

In the Reichskommissariat @Ahrana there has been a rather unprecedented event. For the first time since the foundation of the Empire, a new Imperial State has been added. The Reichskommissariat Ahrana is no more, and in its place is now the newly formed Socialist Republic of Heilig. Two Heiliger Senators are expected to be dispatched to the Imperial Senate shortly to begin their duties in government. Imperial officials are currently being recruited and assigned to the new state as well, and a thorough accounting is being conducted of it to establish a proper level and form of taxation. New regiments are likely to be formed from the local population soon as well. Due to this fact, three unnamed regiments alongside support elements, are being prepared for garrison duty in Heilig to ensure the peace and order of the new state.

 

Due to the large addition of Heiliger listeners and expected servicemen from Heilig, a new Heiligen news service is to begin broadcasting on 85.1 - 87.3 FM. Also, due to time zone differences, there will have to be two of each broadcast. Broadcasts for Heilig will go out two hours after the usual Derthaler times at 1100 and 2300 Derthaler time, while Derthaler broadcasts will continue on as normal with the addition of the Heiligen service. It should be noted that whenever making a telephone to or from Heilig, that there will be a need to adjust by two hours now as well. For reference future reference, all times given unless stated otherwise shall be in Derthaler time.

 

Finally, a new Derthaler football team has been created to represent the Empire against other nations. Their away uniforms consist of long sleeved shirts with large gold and blue stripes, white collars, two smaller white stripes on the inside edge of the blue, and a pair of blue shorts with a golden stripe going down the sides. Their home uniforms use the same shorts, but use long sleeved shirts with thick blue stripes and thin golden stripes. They also have white collars. Lastly, the goal keeper's uniform is an inverse of the home uniform. A long sleeved shirt with thick golden stripes and thing blue stripes, along with a white collar and golden shorts with blue stripes going down the sides. The first game has yet to be decided, but it is expected that it will likely be against @Orioni due to their team currently being used as an international benchmark of quality. Any persons wishing to try out must report to their nearest military bases where they will be required to prove their fitness against the local soldiers. Pay for  players is currently set at seventeen Groschen a week.

In Morthal, the city council has passed the first reading on a bill to inspect, license, and tax public food vendors operating within the city limits. This has been met with approval from pro-regulation groups who have been calling for a further stifling of uncontrolled enterprises as fears over ingredients and their quality mounts after a scandal two months ago involving a vendor using meat from poisoned rats. Poorer city residents on the other hand have begun organising petitions to stop the bill's passing, as it would remove sources of income and cheap food. Concerns also have arisen over whether this is simply the first in what might become a series of crackdowns and punitive taxes on those businesses not associated with the guilds. Local garrison forces have been placed on alert in response to these occurrences in preparation for possible riots. Military personnel are also to be prohibited from eating food from unauthorised sources for the time being.

Construction on the Emperor's Road has continued to progress smoothly. The section from Moskovo to Beograd is expected to be completed by next month, with remainder of the Trunk line between Thale and Beograd expected to be finished in another three months. Immediately following completion, construction is scheduled to begin on the Root line to New Halsham in November. Local resistance along the planned route has been minimal, though harsher weather conditions are to be expected to be encountered along that route. Workers are to be advised to bring cold weather gear and arctic survival kits and to not stray far from camp or other people. Large numbers of bears and wolves are known to live in these areas, and as such will pose a threat to any who stray too far.

Troops in Afropa have begun preparing for a new offensive set to start in the spring of next year. Large quantities of munitions and medical supplies are currently being stockpiled, with an increased number of soldiers being transferred there as well. Acclimatisation training has forced the offensive to be pushed back as the large number of new soldiers required for it had to undergo at least two months of acclimatisation before being combat ready again, and are now expected to require further training from Askari forces and those already serving there. Precautions are also now being taken to ensure that the air space in Afropa is completely secure after an unknown enemy aerocraft carried out an attack on a forward operations base a few months ago.

Finally, local military forces in Fulgistan have started a new major offensive against rebel forces. Military spectators look upon this development with interest. The effectiveness of the new communist army against rebel cells is expected to yield valuable data and insight into their doctrines and training.

Soldiers and civilians alike queue today to see the spectacle of the season, Raubtier, one of the first films ever produced in Derthalen! The subject of the film is the ongoing war in Afropa, and it follows a team of six soldiers hunting through the dense Afropan jungles for the crash site of an unknown aerocraft. They soon discover the wreckage of an allied helicopter with something most sinister... Three of their fellow soldiers skinned by the local savages what they assume must be enemy insurgents. They make their way to the insurgent camp, clear it out with vicious efficiency, and find a Lysian intelligence officer amongst the insurgents. Little do they know as they make their way back, that they are being tracked by something far worse... Far more savage... And far more deadly... Sorry folks, if you want to know the rest, and I am sure you do, you have to go and see the full film in a town near you. 

In other news, the establishment of embassies with the state of @Rihan has been progressing recently. It has been announced that to celebrate this new level of cooperation, a sporting festival called the Feats of Strength are to be held to further cement the goodwill between our nations. Jousting, wrestling, javelins, archery, honourable combat, and many more things are slated to be part of it. It is expected to last for three weeks, and to take place near the new embassy in Rihan. Participants in these events are will be receiving wreaths as rewards for their performances. Overall, it is expected to be quite the event.

Finally, due to deft negotiations, it appears that a large number of bison are to be imported from Tagmatium in the near future. The price of the beasts has yet to be disclosed to the public, but early comments from the treasury seem to indicate that the cost was practically nothing. Time will tell if this speculation will hold true, but I for one look forward to being able to hunt bison in a few years on horseback.

The River Kos has been frozen now for the last three days. The general mood of the denizens of Morthal has quickly gone from one of widespread irritation due to traffic drying up on account of the river being solid, the streets being filled with unexpected snow, and the marshes being easy to walk through, to one of merriment as the ferrymen, fishermen, and dockworkers have all begun setting up tents on the river and a massive impromptu fair. Thousands of people can be seen on the ice now, as fears of it thawing and giving way have subsided after a rather public display of herding a group of cattle along the river to be slaughtered and roasted for the festivities. A tourney has been set up, with knights riding ponies in jousting competitions and fighting each other with brooms while having bells tied to their bodies. The overall state of affairs can be described as saturated with cheap drink, food, and plenty of entertainment. 

A warning to all soldiers and sailors thinking of taking part. Disruptions and keeping order are being handled currently by the fishmongers, as the city watch has refused to patrol the fair due to the chances of increased burglaries while people are distracted. Because of this, those that are caught causing trouble may face unusually steep fines, be stripped down to their small clothes, and then made to wrestle for the entertainment of the crowds as a form of punishment by the fishmongers. For your own sake and that of the military, please do not be among the numbers already having to do this. Also, be aware that due to the coldness of the ground, fog is expected to be settling in thick for the foreseeable future. Please be mindful of your surroundings and of pickpockets.

 Besides the entertainment though, local government officials and businessmen have begun to worry about the economic impact of the river freezing so early in the year. Weather forecasts do not seem to indicate temperatures warming up above sixty degrees in the near future, and as such it is doubtful that the river will thaw. Due to this, large numbers of workers have been seen on the lower river breaking the ice past the Admiral's Bridge so as to allow for limited economic activity to return to normal. Teams of horses and men have started to pull freight along the ice as well, so as to utilise the new highway that has naturally formed.

A duel broke out this week between two officers as a noble sought satisfaction against another after it came out that the offending lord had not consummated his marriage with the previous one's cousin. While speculation for this odd situation is currently rather popular, no official reason has been given. The duel was fought in the streets before a crowd and resulted in the challenger taking the offending lord's head after half an hour of fighting. As this duel had not been authorised by a court and it was not carried out according to the law, the challenger was brought up on charges for improper duelling. After being found guilty, his punishment was given to the widow of the late lord to decide.

In other news, the recently widowed Lady Borden and Honourable Mr. Oranj are expected to be married in a month's time. This comes after the unexpected death of Lord Borden in an as of yet unknown confrontation. Critics are currently decrying the marriage, as it is generally considered in bad taste for a lady to remarry before observing the proper mourning period. That said, due to unknown circumstances, the courts have not seen fit to interfere in this affair. Hopefully, their marriage will be fruitful.

Military officials are currently looking into organising teams of soldiers to combat forest fires, after a fort was cut off and surrounded by one. Current concerns mostly stem from the need for specialised equipment to be made for these possible teams, such as with suggestions of aerocraft being outfitted with water tanks being floated. As of this moment though, a temporary authorisation has been given allowing for officers to order their men to help with the creation of fire breaks and the starting of controlled burns until a more solid plan can be made to help combat the risk of uncontrolled fires.

Finally, new laws have been passed giving more power to the States on matters regarding dairy imports. After a three month long debate in the Imperial Senate, it was decided that not allowing the States the right to raise tariffs and place embargos on the importation of dairy products allowed for unfair competition between the dairy industries and could lead to markets becoming wholly too reliant upon others. A grace period of half a year is currently in effect, allowing for currently ongoing business transactions to be completed and affairs to be sorted.
