The TNP was quick to re-write the constitution and erase the checks and balances between the governmental branches. The Executive and Legislative branches were slowly merged together, giving the party direct control over the making and enforcement of laws, while the judiciary was subjected to strict controls and regulations. By '74, all other political parties (of which there were over 30) were outlawed. But these parties never disbanded, instead, a majority of them went underground and formed a resistance movement to the TNP. The National Popular Congress, as they called themselves, have remained underground, spreading propaganda and gathering supporters. In the past decade, many thousands of young men and women have joined the NPC, and many small businesses have contributed millions to the revolutionary effort. Head members of both the TNP and the NPC predict violence will sonn break out between the two factions. Edited February 19, 2014 by orioni (see edit history) Link to comment

Tanasos
OOC: Danke. Government The Government of Tanasos is entirely run by the National Party. Its influence is felt in all political institutions, unions, and neighborhoods through it's vast network of agencies and and public leagues. Public offices are held only by long-time, trusted members of the TNP, and as such, the political system is closed and a majority of the population is cut off from the decision making process. Legislature There is only one legislative body in Tanasos, the Party Congress. Every four years the Congress is reformed with "new" members, although members tend to be recycled, given new titles and offices, but never losing power within the government. The Congress meets every four years, about a month after one of these 're-shuffles'. Judiciary The Court system is managed from behind the curtain by the TNP. Court rulings can be overruled by an executive order, and judges can be removed and instated by the stroke of a pen, so long as an executive member is holding it. Mass Organizations The TNP survives mainly by creating an illusion of popular participation through the use of organizations which are not controlled by the TNP, although closely linked to it. For example, the National Labor Front seeks the membership of all eligible workers over 16 and deals with the issues of health, child care, education and fair wages. These groups actually resonate government agendas while attempting to convince the public that government policy is their creation. Resistance Groups Since the TNP dissolved the democratic processes in the early seventies, numerous resistance groups have formed around the remains of the former would-be opposition parties. Among these are the National Liberation Front (NLF), Popular Front (TPF), The LongSwords (Socialist Revolutionary Party (SRP)). These groups have merged together, forming the National Popular Congress. The Tanasos National Party still denies the existence of any such organization. Link to comment
Tanasos
Defense Tanasi Liberation Army (TLA) TAnasi NAvy (TANA) Tanasi Air Force (TAF) Tanasi Civil Guard (TCG) Tanasi Liberation Army The TLA is by all means the most effective means of executive enforcement in Tanasos. The Chancellor is the highest ranking General in the TLA, creating a union between the army and the government. The TLA was (and still is) the prime tool the executive uses to put down dissent and enforce it's orders. The Army indirectly controls local law enforcement agencies and tax collection. Tanasi Navy The Navy has gone largely unappreciated by the government (due mostly to it's union with the Army, and the Army's distaste for the Navy.) Over the past few decades the navy has been slowly weened off the military budget. Currently, the Navy has about fourty ships to defend the entire nation. Career naval crews have resorted to piracy on the high seas to make up for the lack in pay from the government. Raiding both Tanasi and foreign trade vessels, the goods stolen are sold on the black market. The loyalty of the Navy is questionable at best. Tanasi Air Force The TAF numbers about 3,900 persons and 240 aircraft of all functions. The government has maintained the TAF with proper funding, training and improvements. It's main purpose is to spy on rebel movements and patrol the coasts. Tanasi Civil Guard Basically a sub-branch of the Army, the TCG is the division that deals directly with dissent and disobedience in the public arena. The TCG has an armoury in every major city. Tanasos
Climate and Geography Tanasos has a relatively mild and equable climate, despite its high altitude and its proximity to the Arctic. Because of oceanic influences (a warm ocean current flows around the island), climatic conditions are moderate in all sections of the island. Windstorms of considerable violence are characteristic during much of the winter season. Meanwhile, the summer tends to be mild and wet, bringing heavy rains and thunderstorms. Annual precipitation ranges between about 1,270mm and 2,030mm along the southern coast, and is only about 510 mm along the northern coast. The northern section of the island is dominated by low mountains and rolling hills covered by thick sod-like grasses in unsettled areas. The northern hills are noted as being rich in minerals and coal. The southern half of the island is relatively flat due to glacial erosion millions of years ago. Glacial moraines and deposites make the southern region fertile. The complimentary climate makes it one of the most promising farm regions in the world. A cliff in the middle of the island, formed by glacial movements eons ago. The tough grass of the northern region is displayed in this photograph. The flat, lightly forested south is shown here.
