Stilistra
Economic High Times Almost one year after President Jackson's economic reforms, analysts in Philidelphia release their report reviewing the status of the nation now, compared to that of one year ago. Jackson's reform shifted the government's focus from a supply orientation (producers) to a demand orientation (consumers). The former government policy of giving tax breaks, loans and grants to those in the top ten percent of the population as incentive to start new businesses, or expand existing ones, was halted on January 3rd of last year. His new policy created a flat income tax of 11% for all persons whose income is greater than or equal to $5,500 annually, created tax breaks and exempotions for persons whose annual income is less than or equal to $10,000, allowed for small businesses whose income if less than or equal to $150,000 annually to apply for grants, and banned the merging of corporations. The new general income tax has enlarged the the national treasury by over 1.2 billion Dollars as the taxation was extened to the upper-most echelons of society, without compromise. The surplus of tax Dollars has been appropriated to public works. Cities are planning to expand their subway systems and waste removal/processing grids, as the national government announces it's plan to expand the national air-transportation system, as well as that of the public rail and intercity transit. The lower-class tax-breaks coupled with the lower, uniform tax rate inspired citizens to spend more. The demand for products from all industries stimulated many smaller businesses to take out loans and expand production. Increased production has created a demand for workers. Unemployment has dropped to just over 3% as a result of this, as well as causing a raise in wages as the supply of available workers has gone. The government also broke up many of the massive corporations into smaller fragments, ensuring competition. The ban on mergers garuntees a continuum of healthy competition bewteen the bigger businesses. Government representatives on the boards of directories of the larger busniesses will serve to prevent pools and trusts. One year after Jackson's policy began, Philipephia economists report that the exchange rate to the $NS jumped $.60, the National GDP skyrocketed by almost 20 trillion Dollars, unemployment fell from 8.4% to 3.6%, and GDP per capita rose $15,000 on average for most citizens. Stilistra
AirForce To Be Expanded President Jackson approved a bill last week allowing the War Department to update it's existing war planes to meet the needs of a modern airforce. The bill allows 15 billion Nickles to be spent on new hardware ranging anywhere from the joysticks to new fighters and bombers in their entirity, and another 3.5 billion to re-train pilots and service-men and women in the operation and maintainance of the new equiptment. In a public adress to the press, Secretary of Defense, Lewis Cass, said "...these planes and bombs and such...will do much to discourage any encroachments upon our sovreign territory...They are necessary for providing the defense of our society and people..." The bill mandates the delivery and installment of the new equipment by the end of this year, and gives another 18 months to train the men and women whose profession will be affected by this wave of modernization. Stilistra
War Department Given Blank Check Consulate Cass has appropriated billions in government spending toward rebuilding the Stilistran military into a respectible fighting force. Cass remarked that "...this is a dangerous region. Our enemies are lurking out there, scheming their insidious plots. That is why we have issued this grant to the Military. The way we see it, it's only a matter of time before something goes ablunder and we'll be relying on our guns for safety." Over 75 billion BankNotes have been taken from the treasury for this project. The government believes that this, along with the Syndication will go far in the effort to re-arm Stilistra. Another advancement in our nation's defence is the new policy of conscription. Every man and woman between the ages of 18 and 22 must sign up for a branch of the Military. After 4 months of training citizens may return to their normal lives, but must return for 'brush-up' courses every 18 months. Citizens may choose to leave the armed forces upon their 45th birthday, but may be recalled to action, if war is declared, until their 55th. Stilistra
Oil Struck in Western Stilistra! The Cartographer's Office announced that oil has been discovered lying underneath the tributaries of the West River. Officials say the reserve is a large one, capable of supplying private and public transortation needs for the next 15-20 years. When asked why a reserve this size hadn't been found sooner, Chief Cartographer Micheal Cosilith said that, "The last time a search for oil was done in that area was over 50 years ago. Back then we just didn't have the tools needed to detect it. IT is fiarly deep in the ground, making a simple test well impracticle. But nowadays we have the technology and resources to harvest this great find!" Initial estimates indicate that it may take over a year to finish drilling all the wells pipelines, refineries and powerlines necessary to pump the oil from the reserve. The Senate is in the middle of debating exactly how much money to allow for the project, but will definately pass a resolution making the extraction of the oil a priority. Stilistra
Stilistra Thrives! The Stilistran Economic Council, last week, released a report on the changes felt by the economy since Cass's instutution of Syndicate, and other, policies. They've found that the national GDP has skyrocketed by about 15 trillion, to it's new level of just over 40,000,000,000,000 Bank Notes. The report announces that this is a direct from the GDP per Capita rising to 35,000 Bank Notes, among other factors. As the modernization of Stilistra's industries goes on, the report shows that Stilistra's ability to produce has increased by 600 percent, and will continue to rise as the import and utilization of foreign industrial wares becomes greater. On a related note, the report also indicates that Stilistran's will have consumed $33.4 trillion in goods by the end of the year. This report is being seen by hundreds of millions as concrete proof that Secretariat Cass' promises to rebuild Stilistra into a great power are coming true. Several street parades were thrown in his honor in the last week. The Secretariat was also named Stilistra's most eligible bachelor in "Us Weekly", even though he is already married.
