Finnvaria
Greetings from the new Europan nation of Finnvaria! Finnvaria is a Queendom, with the hereditary Queen being chosen from the line of people descended from dolphins. At the coronation ceremony, the dolphin delegate names the new Queen a Dolphriend (at least, we assume this is what he says, since despite our best efforts, we've yet to learn their language...he might be asking if we have any tasty fish). The nation of Finnvaria is composed of three islands. Flip, the main island, is dolphin-shaped (if you squint). The vast majority of the population lives on Flip. To the south are two smaller water-drop shaped islands, one to each side of Flip's "tail". These are Splish (to the West) and Splash (to the East). Splash houses the new Coral Reef Casino, a popular holiday destination for our citizens. From the NationStates description of Finnvaria: The Queendom of Finnvaria is a tiny, devout nation, remarkable for its burgeoning dolphin population. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 6 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The medium-sized government concentrates mainly on Religion & Spirituality, although Education and Healthcare are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 19%. A large private sector is led by the Soda Sales industry, followed by Gambling and Basket Weaving. Voting is voluntary and meat-eating is frowned upon. Crime is a problem. Finnvaria's national animal is the dolphin and its currency is the sand dollar. Finnvaria is ranked 98th in the region and 25,519th in the world for Largest Gambling Industry. Finnvaria
Thank you for the warm welcomes. We're now offering popular eco-tours through our lush rainforests, and according to this morning's NS update, have quite a tourist trade going. So your citizens are being friendly, too. Mongol-Swedes
Another pro-environment nation, very nice. How's your alternative fuels coming along? Link to comment
Finnvaria
Sadly, our attempts to make a bio-fuel from kelp has not yet met with any measurable level of success. It did, however, produce a tasty cracker, and an intriguing new dye for our basket weavers, so it has not been a total loss. Peace-love-kelp Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
You realise that "bio-fuels" still produce carbon dioxide? Link to comment
Mongol-Swedes
I was thinking more along the lines of hydrogen and such...I'm willing to guide those willing to learn from the past along the path. Link to comment
Finnvaria
SAoM-S: We would appreciate any guidance you have to offer, and will gladly send a pair of our scientists to your nation, if this will be the easiest way for you to initiate knowledge transfer. In a spirit of scientific openness and sharing, we would also welcome a visit by a team of your scientists to our nation, to see the things we have developed and which seem common-place to us, but which may be new to your nation. Tag: Yes, we are aware that bio-fuels are not a completely clean source of energy. But they are renewable, and preserve our forests so that we do not need to destroy them to mine for Uranium deposits. We have experienced success with wind farms catching the coastal breezes, and water turbines, all of which generate electricity without greenhouse gas byproducts. Peace-love-kelp Link to comment
