Emakera Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Just wondering about some stuff. -Is Europa connected with other regions by physical means? What about our world? -Religions, schools of thought, phylosophies-- who founded them? Where was Jesus born? In which direction is Mecca? Who wrote the Communist Manifesto? Who was the first buddha? -Culture and sports: Who invented the soccer? Is there such a thing as an Epic of Gilgamesh? What about the Lus?adas? Where did some people find out that you can make a pretty nice music by using a matchbox and a guitar? Who sung "The Message"? And SNKP?
Adaptus Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Thats a good question, hmm. Well some of those claims we could agree happend in some of our nations instead of the real placed they happed. I think for the most of it we would have to look at things like, who was the first communist nations in Europa, those sort of things.
Emakera Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 If there's no outside world but Europa, why not them all? For example, nations inspired in the UK could have UK based stuff (the invention of soccer as we know it, 1984, et cetera), Latin american nations could have latin america related things (the airplane, music styles), and the like. And we could have a draft for more unrelated things-- or just keep'em for new nations. How's that?
Suverina Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I've also thought about those things. And I have decided that Karl Marx lived in Great(or greater?) United kingdom.
Damak Var Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 we should start a thread where people say what their nation has pioneered.
Emakera Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 Sure thing. But how would we avoid possible arguments? For example, I say "Emakera invented the airplane because we're based on Brazil and that's Alberto Santos Dummont's homeland, let's end the imperialism! For justice and wristwatches", and then an USA based nation comes and claims "No, the Wright brothers did, and thus, WE were the first to fly around. Enjoy your wristwatches". Both have their credit-- The Wright were the first humans to fly, while Dummont made the earliest working plane, some years after the Wright flight, but needless to say that this can end in arguments (hell, this post can end in arguments). So, what could we do? And what about more "original" nations? Do we relate them to RL nations?
Orioni Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 1) Is Europa connected with other regions by physical means? What about our world? 2) Religions, schools of thought, phylosophies-- who founded them? Where was Jesus born? In which direction is Mecca? Who wrote the Communist Manifesto? Who was the first buddha? 3) Culture and sports: Who invented the soccer? Is there such a thing as an Epic of Gilgamesh? What about the Lus?adas? Where did some people find out that you can make a pretty nice music by using a matchbox and a guitar? Who sung "The Message"? And SNKP? 1) Europa is connected to other regions, yes. I asked the same question once (if I sail east, will I end up in the west again?) and was told that the rest of NationStates is out there. We have had some diplomats player around here (and we still do) so that would be an explanation why they are/were here. 2) I'm really not sure about that, as it would imply our nations share some sort of same history as the rest of the real world. Did we have a cold war? Perhaps. There's a history-area to sort out stuff like this. There are some Medieval and Renaissance threads, for example, so I guess we do have at least some connection with the real world. Ps: my nation is like India, but with a different religion 'n' stuff. 3) I think we should take a look at the 'character' of everyone's nation and try and place the things we associate with those nations. Example: since Karl Marx was born in Germany (Trier), I think he could be from Tamurin.
Damak Var Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 right Emakera, that would be difficult. Perhaps things you pioneered and have RP'ed it already?
Vocenae Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 And the Vikings and so on could be from Vocenae, since its based off of Norway. And such.
Emakera Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) Well, RPing every single thing blows. How should I roleplay the fact that Emakera invented Bossa Nova? ...And looks like we are agreed. I'm making a small list of countries and similars in here, but my attention ends easily, so tell me if I forgot someone or if I made some mistakes. NS Country/ RL counterpart: Achievements (great people) Emakera/ Brazil: Samba, Antidotes (Vital Brazil), Airships/blimps (Alberto Santos-Dummont), Cacha?a [sugar cane moonshine]. Vocenae/ Norway: Damak Var/ ?: Orioni/ Various: Suverina/ Moldavia, Romania and Russia : Adaptus/ England: Pirilao/ Portugal: Tagmatium/ Byzantine Empire: Mongol-Swedes/ ?: Bainbridge Islands/ Hawaii: Rennd/ ? : Kant/ Australia: Miiros/ ?: Aalandia/ ?: Rekamgil/ Iceland?: Great United Kingdom/ UK: Ide Jima/ Japan? : Aristocratic Confederation/ ?: Tamurin/ Germany: Italgria/ Italy and Argentina: I probably forgot people. Blame the head and not the heart. Edited August 6, 2006 by Emakera (see edit history)
Suverina Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) Belgium wtf? It's based on Moldavia, romania and russia My flag does have the same colour as the belgian though, although it is the moldavian! I invented LADA!! yay Edited August 6, 2006 by Suverina (see edit history)
Adaptus Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Adaptus is more British, 'cos we have several diffrent regions joined into the Federation rather than a united kingom, but we have a scotish style region, english style region, and so on. We also have a Greek style past, thats the reason we use alot of latin, hence our latin motto. But your right, the majority of it is English based. We also have a spenish style colony, based on the Falklands, and a unit of our army, the Khans, are based on the Gurkkas, so sort of south east aisan based. We're quite a diverse nation . We also have elements of a russian style region too.
Orioni Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Orioni: India, Portugal, Britain, Japan, Greece. Or some sort of weird combination of those things. Sorry if this may seem confusing, I'm still working on my page at nswiki. When that's finished, I think everyone will understand it better. If they read it, that is.
Miiros Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) Miiros is a blend of Japan (Tokyo), South Korea (Seoul), New York City, the Venetian Republic and a number of other fictional lands (Braavos, Coruscant, and Valua). We are the kings of urban living and capitalism. Ok, maybe not the kings, but we're pretty damn awesome! YEAH! =P Edited August 6, 2006 by Miiros (see edit history)
Suverina Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) Braavos, Coruscant, and Valua Should i know any of these? Shouldn't your nation be based on some free city? ragusa, danzig, marstrand etc? Edited August 6, 2006 by Suverina (see edit history)
Damak Var Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Corusant...hmm, well if we can relate our nations to ones in fictional worlds then my nation would be similar to the Caldari from Eve. As for RL, I'd say America. Miiros, I'm catching up in capitalism.
Nan Gorgwaith Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 (edited) Ah I think I mentioned something like this somewhere else, but here is more details Nan GorGwaith is a combo of English, German, Polish type nationalities with undercurrents of Carpathian mountain rural local groups that are spread throughout the country... Historically - periods of history saw the people similiar to Visigoths, Teutons, and a little bit Hun in manner and warfare. Fictional - if it isn't apparent but hugely influenced by Tolkien's Middle Earth, specifially from the Silmarillion with regards to places, landforms, and some names. Traditionally dictatorship rule with some republican ideals, capitalism, limited socialism , monarchial designs... a general mess Edited August 7, 2006 by Nan Gorgwaith (see edit history)
Ide Jima Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Ide Jima is a general far eastern based nation. Japan/ Korea/ Taiwan are probably the most closely comparable. The way to go about this problem is to wait for something like that to come up, and then decide amongst ourselves where who or what came from.
Adaptus Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I like that, but I do think it would be a good idea to record major events for reffrence.
