Dragonryders Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 CARTOGRAPHY of EUROPA Rules -- Requests -- Releases After months of hard work (by a team of procrastinators), it seems we've finally come up with a new map. The most recent version is on display here. But first: let me tell you a story. About the Map On the first day, He said: Let there be pixels. And there were pixels. He saw the pixels, and the pixels were blocky: and He divided the pixels into even smaller pixels. He saw the image resolution and thought: that's big enough. And the evening and the morning were the first day. http://i.imgur.com/iu6vwPFm.png And on the second day He said: Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And He divided the waters by adding green pixels to the blue ones. And He didn't create any sky because His creation was only 2D. http://i.imgur.com/iJngJfOm.png And on the third day, He read a tutorial. And there was the geographical map. There are mountains on that map and valleys and coasts and oceans and rivers even. And He saw it was good. http://i.imgur.com/lBun275m.png And on the fourth day, He created warmth and cold and with that came climates and all that goes with it. It seemed to be a broken link, but He had seen it was good. He thoughts it might be a temporary database error on the side of Imageshack. http://i.imgur.com/JJkywg1m.png Grey-white: snowy, mild summer, cold winter Blue: rainy, mild summer, mild winter Green: less rainy, warm summer, mild winter Orange: warm, warm summer, warm winter Red: dry, hot summer, warm winter On the fifth day, He created Life. Animals, trees and in some religions stones too, but they were there already. Unfortunately, there's no map of fauna and flora, but that's no problem. Here's a picture of a nice pair of boobies. On the sixth day, He created Man. And Man created Woman out of a rib. And together they created millions of offspring. And some of those children became leaders. And those leaders controlled nations. And those nations had plots of land in the region of Europa. There were lots of available plots as seen on this map. http://i.imgur.com/msf14Hym.png On the seventh day, He took a break because of weekend. Staking your claim Many had already decided where their nation would be, long ago. But as their humble populations grew, the desire for more soil increased. And so He decided that the rulers were entitled to a certain amount of plots depending on the size of their population and their prominence in Europa's forums. And he created Seven rules to rule the map, and the number of the rules shall be Seven. Not Six or Eight or Ten but Seven. Because He had a theme in mind, and He was sticking to it. Rule 1: Residency. You must have a nation in the NationStates region of Europa. Rule 2: Transparency. Your nation must be registered at this forum. Since you're reading this, you seem to be on the right track. Rule 3: Activity. Claiming and expanding your nation will only be allowed according to these rules. Expansion is not necessary, but most seem to want to grow big into stronk clay. 1 Plot: 20 million population + 20 posts (Anyone can do this without breaking a sweat. Introduce yourself, spam a bit, and you're there. NationStates will take care of the rest within a week or so.) 2 Plots: 250 million population + 75 posts (Aha, a little more difficult. Be active in RP for example, and a second lot awaits.) 3 Plots: 500 million polulation + 150 posts (1 billion takes about six months if I'm not mistaken. 500 posts only a month or so.) 4 Plots: 750 million polulation + 300 posts (A reward for the senior members. You've got to be rewarded in some way for sticking around this long.) 5 Plots: 1 billion polulation + 500 posts (This rule was added in September 2006 after an interesting debate.) Rule 4: Transformity. You can change the borders via role-playing. (If your border is next to an empty plot, do not make too big annexations, for this reduces the chances for new countries to have the slot they want. Empty slots are primarily for them. However, if the border is against another country, you can role-play the changes as large as you wish if and when everyone concerned has agreed. See our role-play rules for guidance.) Rule 5: Inactivity. You will be removed from the map if: your nation leaves Europa (exception made for TEA); your nations ceases to exist; you ask that your nation is removed from the map. No exact time limit can be placed on the actual removal. The mapmaker and RP community will decide on the faith of the nation in question. Rule 6: Islands. Some islands don't count as whole plots. We hope to have a list of island classes somewhere soon. Rule 7: Formality. If entitled to a new plot, one may claim it in this thread using the following form: NAME: your nation's short name in NationStates PLOT: the number(s) of the plot(s) you claim FLAG: the link to your flag CAPITAL: name of your capital city + describe where it is situated on your plot How to expand However, many rulers realise that claiming is not the only way to gain territory. Another most gratifying way to increase your nation's size is an RP-war. Read more about that in the Military HQ and OOC Planning & Discussion sections as well as the newbie-help threads and forums, which I'm pretty sure we recently had, but I can't seem to find them right now… As tempting as it is to expand when your nation hits both the post and population parameters to do so, I must remind everyone that any and every expansion must be properly RP'ed for. This doesn't mean a one-post mention in your news thread, but a proper thread which goes through your acquisition of that land. Don't be afraid to be controversial or reluctant to stir up trouble. In fact, this is often the best way, as it means that the much more fun can be had. Maybe you're taking over a plot that was originally another player-nation. You could RP the fact that that nation had recently fragmented, and you're going in to "pacify" it. Or perhaps the plot you've got your sights set on has always been vacant. In this instance, there could be a minor regime with an opposite political ideology to your nation's, sponsoring terrorism within your borders. Time to invade and scrub out those commies/fascists-supporting terrorists! Just because your nation is expanding, it doesn't mean that every nation will automatically agree. In fact, the majority of wars in this region, whether minor or major, have originally been started over nations expanding. This is perfectly valid and, to a point, does reflect real-world tendencies, as some nations resent others moving into their spheres of influence. On a final note, I must add that when your nation does get big enough to expand into another plot, it doesn't mean you have to. If and when you do wish to take over another bit of land, be prepared to have a proper reason and story thought through to explain this expansion, as well as the fact that other nations may not accept it. Examples of Previous Expansion RPs: Collapse of Abyssioan Government -- Peacekeepers are sent in to secure a previous player's nation. Operation: Hammerfall -- One nation reacts to terrorists attacking from an adjacent plot, and reacts by invading it. Other nations didn't agree and sent military forces. Plot 21 Incident -- A nation of one alliance expands into the sphere of influence of another. Nearly went nuclear!
Akiiryu Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Okay then. 54. I would request people do not block me.
Deltannia Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I'm going to say #1, it looks kind of like old Deltannia. And I hope that no one becomes evil and say 2.... I don't want to go to an island nation....

Dragonryders Posted April 3, 2006 Author Posted April 3, 2006 (edited) Ah, seems I did forget to add the form: NAME: - name in NationStates- PLOT: -number- FLAG: -link- (Capital may be added later, when you have all your plots) If I recall correctly, Orioni was thinking about not having special colors for the nations, because it would look better. Otherwise, it's not a bad idea to also add COLOR: -color- to your list. (@Tagmatium, Deltannia, Akiiryu: No problem. Tag's : http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/u...s/tagmatium.jpg Delt's : http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/u...s/deltannia.jpg Akiiryu's : http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/akiiryu.jpg ) Edited April 3, 2006 by Dragonryders (see edit history)
Italgria Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 OCC: Risking of getting dropped down of the list. I think there should no special color for the country. Just the flag and then you should be able to recognize it and it also would look nicer.

Bashovia and Erbery Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I would like to secure a plot on the new map for my nation. I probably have not met the requirements for joining yet but when i do I would like to join you all on the map. I don't know what plot i want, though...

Vocenae Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Hold up people. GUK, I didn't see your name on the request order list, as well as this Bashovia and Ebery, you guys are probably going to get sent to the bottom of the list now, since you requested out of order. I'm not a mod, but I'd rather we maintain order and not have everyone jumping in at once. Please read the first post in this topic please, your request times are April 15th to April 20th. Thank you.

Dragonryders Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 (edited) GUK, with all respect, but I'm going to have to move you to the Bottom of the List (april 18 to april 23), for violating the (rather simple) rules. Sorry, but you'll have to wait 3 extra days. I also moved Haken down, because I can't let him break the rules just because he's an older member. @Bashovia & GUK: There will be enough place so don't worry about that. Edited April 6, 2006 by Dragonryders (see edit history)
Italgria Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Is there a possibility to see which plots have been taken away on a "alpha map"? Because i mean it could happen that somebody chooses a plot that has been already picked... or atleast put at the top of this thread the numbers of the plots that have been already taken to get confusion out of the game. Is that possible?
Orioni Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 This thread only has two pages yet. Here is a list of plots already requested. 54 1 75 179 61 46 157 106
