Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper Situation in Hidaya Miliki Worsens  With the situations in both the southern Europan Kingdom of Hidaya Miliki and Tagmatium's neighbour, the Karthene Federationm, worsening, the Tagmatine Red Cross has annouced a charity drive to get enough aid for the people of these two nations, in order to reduce their suffering and to help them "get back on their feet".  In an exclusive interview with the head of the Tagmatine Red Cross for southern Europa, Ammanius Hypatius said this:  "The situation in Hidaya Miliki is worsening fairly rapidly. What the nation needs, rather than military posturing by many nations, including Tagmatium, is large amounts of aid, such as shelters, food, water and clothes. This is what Europa should be focusing on, rather than the deployment of armies."  The Imperial Government has rebuffed this statement, saying that the forces being readied in Theis will be used to distribute aid to Hidaya Miliki, if they are deployed to the area immediately around the southern Europan kingdom. The Imperial Government did stress that the deployment of soldiers is not a given, and they are also increasing the amount of Hyperpyron (HS) that they are giving in aid to the poorer nations in Europa.  This has been viewed sceptically by several aid organisations in the Greater Holy Empire. They say that this doesn't compare to the amount of money Tagmatium is either spending on its armies or the amount of misery its forces have caused in the past year or so.  The Patriarch of Tagmatica, his Holiness Father Cosmas I, has called on Tagmatium to give more aid to the poorer nations, as well as to spread the Word of God. Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper More Soldiers sent to South Europa  With the deployment of the Ekainkos Channel fleet to southern Europa, along with an infantry division and a mixed division of an armoured brigade, an Imperial Guard brigade and a Trapezitae brigade, the Ministry of War has announced the scaling back of the deployment of the People's Guard in the Lesser Jaihu Basin. One division will be left under command of the temporary Catepan, Lieutenant General Antony Trajan. The second division is to be re-deployed to the Borean Principalities, to await orders to move into Karthenia to help address the situation there. The third division is to be moved to Theis.  This comes at a time when the Holy Confederacy of Vanarambaion, and the Allied States of Europtima, the nation that succeed from Vanarambaion last year, have joined the situation in southern Europa against Xheng, in what has now been termed a ?crusade against good? by some political groups in Tagmatium.  The Vanarambaion Emperor?s speech, which was also the declaration of war against the Arch-Imperium, has also become a source of some attention in the past day. The meaning of the rambling speech was almost masked by it?s length and randomness of subject. It has been suggested that it may be a sign of the Vanarambaion Emperor?s failing health. The speech itself appeared to recommend a state of war with almost every nation in Europa, and undoubtedly contained many veiled threats at the nations opposing the Alliance, painting them as ?enemies of freedom?. A member of the Imperial Government described the actions of the Vanarambaion government as "increasingly bizarre".  This speech comes after Vanarambaion, during the HalKu-Tagmatium nuclear power efforts, labelled the Greater Holy Empire as a religious fundamentalist state, and yet in the same breath declared that Halku?s beliefs were ?not in line with our own?. This may point to the Holy Confederacy?s slow evolution into a crusader-state, determined to enforce it?s own brand of beliefs and politics on the rest of Europa. Tagmatium Rules
TBC Lunchtime News Broadcast  In the Lesser Jaihu Basin, the remarkably lawless area that the greater Holy Empire recently annexed, a routine People?s Guard patrol stumbled across one of the biggest opium poppy fields in Europa. Attempts by the farmers to drive them away were fought off, and a battalion was sent in to use Greek Fire Throwers to burn the field to the ground. Due to the ferciousness of the farmers? defence of their money-making crop, a squadron of JX-12 assault helicopters were called in to support the ground troops and provide cover whilst the infantry burned the crop. This has become a fairly regular problem in the new themes in the Lesser Jaihu Basin, especially in the north around the city of Laodicea. The rugged terrain is very difficult for anything but small patrols to penetrate, whilst the crevasses and gorges give a lot of cover from any aerial reconnaissance. The climate is also perfect for growing the opium poppy. A governmental spokeswoman for the Office of the Catepanate of the Lesser Jaihu Basin issued this statement today: ?The main problem is, after the collapse of the various regimes in this area, the growing of the opium poppy became the only viable option to subsistence farming. Why scratch in the earth when you can earn in a month what it would often take you a year to grow? It is one thing for the army to burn these crops, but we must also provide a proper alternative to them.? Experts say that this operation by the People?s Guard has cracked one of the biggest opium growing cooperatives in northern Europa, and that supply in the major cities will be hit very hard by this event. Prices may increase by ten times their original amount, and this may result in increased crime as addicts need to fund their habit. The Imperial Government says that it will increase police funding to deal with any crime. The government has also issued a statement saying that it will crack down much harder on dealers. Patriarch Cosmas I has also issued a bull saying that anyone caught growing opium poppies are to be barred from entering a church, hearing a service or even visiting a priest until they have destroyed their crop. It's uncertain as to how successful this decree will be, as the Lesser Jaihu Basin is notoriously independent and lawless, as well as being one of the most remote regions in Europa. The local branch of the Orthodox Church is also autocephalous, and therefore may not accept the rulings of the Patriarch of Tagmatium. Tagmatium Rules
TBC Evening News Broadcast  A large group of farmers from the north-east of the Lesser Jaihu Basin Catepanate had arrived at the northern city of Laodicea to protest about the treatment of their fellows at the hands of Imperial forces. Tagmatine police in the area responded by attempting to arrest as many as they could get their hands on, charging them with drug-related crimes, including Possession of a Class A Drug and Intent to Supply a Class A Drug, which quickly led to scenes of mass panic as the farmers fled from the police. This later led to rioting, as many farmers attempted to resist arrest. The police did, however, arrest and place into custody some two hundred farmers. This rather heavy-handed action is thought to have been ordered by the Catepan General Antony Trajan, who has sworn ?to wipe out the drugs trade in the Lesser Jaihu Basin?. The rioting has, however, continued into this evening, long after the original protests were broken up by the police. This time, the protests are at the brutality of the Tagmatine police, as well as at the Patriarch?s ruling over the growing of opium, and the lack of a proper alternative to the growth of the narcotic for the farmers. Tagmatium Rules
TBC Breakfast News Broadcast  This morning, an armed gang struck against a Holy Imperial Bank installation on the outskirts of the capital. The daring raid took place at about 0450 in the morning, Tagmatine time. They have thought to have made off with about HS70,000,000 ($75,453,000). The robbers gained access into the installation by taking hostage the chief cashier and forcing her, at gun point, to unlock all doors and to point out the location of the vast amount of banknotes held in the location. All the rest of the staff, ten in all, in the building were tied up to prevent them from alerting the police to what was occurring inside the building. No-one was injured in the process of the crime, but police have been unable to trace the lorry used to take the banknotes after they had been located.  There are no indications that the crime had been perpetrated by any known criminal organisations in the Greater Holy Empire. The crime may have links with the recent actions by the Tagmatine military against opium farmers in the Lesser Jaihu Basin. The amount of money stolen is said to correspond with the street-value of the opium burnt by People?s Guards units on 11-02-2006 which sparked what has now been termed the ?Opium Riots?, although this may just be a coincidence. The physical appearances of the robbers was not seen, as they were all wearing balaclavas or other similar face masks. Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
TBCNews Bulletin  We apologise for interrupting our usual afternoon schedule, but there has been a development in the Nea Knowle Installation Robbery of last month, where armed robbers stole around HS70 million.  Over the last few weeks, several clues to the criminals? identity were found, including several burnt out vehicles, found in the country side to the north of Theis. Police were able to use data from these clues to trace the criminals to a rich and successful business person who owns several large transport firms in the Greater Holy Empire. Local police and the unit from the Tagmatica Metropolitan Constabulary who were investigating the robbery stormed the mansion of the business man in the early hours of yesterday morning. The mansion is located to the north of Theis. Seven people were arrested, but their identities will not be revealed until they are formally charged or released. This is not expected until later this week. Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper Theis Celebrations Begin  Today sees the beginning of the Festival of Clemency, the week-long street festival in held in the southern city of Theis.  The festival traditionally marks the announcement in AD889 of clemency towards the Manichean population of Theis by St Constantine I and St Aetius I, the first Holy Emperor of Tagmatium and the first Patriarch of Tagmatica respectively. It was a move that shocked the Christian world at the time, as the Manichean faith had been persecuted by Christian nations since it?s founding in 200?s. All of the successor states of the Roman Empire had, until that point, pursued a policy of persecution against the faith, regarding it as a heretical version of Christianity, rather than a separate faith in its own right. The move by the Holy Empire came when Tagmatium needed allies the most, as it had just declared its independence from the Roman Empire. This was a way of gaining allies quickly.  Since then, Theis has remained as one of the last centres of the Manichean faith, with the majority of the population being Manicheans. This group makes up the largest faith group in the Greater Holy Empire, after the Orthodox Church of Tagmatium, the official, iconoclastic Church of the state.  All citizens of Theis are given the several days off over the course of the week, and it is met by celebration by all faiths in the city, not just the Manicheans. The city also becomes a hot-spot for tourists at this time, with most bars, restaurants and caf?s doing a roaring trade over this period. It gives a much-needed boost to the local economy after the winter off-season.  There has been criticism of the festival in recent years, with older members of the religions claiming that it has lost sight of the past and has become just another excuse to sell alcohol and merchandise. Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper Nea Knowle Robbery Arrests Made  The identity of several of the people arrested over the 23rd of February raid on the Nea Knowle installation has been released today, as they have been charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, a range of fire-arms and robbery offences. The exact date of a court appearance has not yet been released, and police have hinted that it will be kept secret until they have caught the remaining members and found out if this connects at all to any of the opium growing cooperatives in the Lesser Jaihu Basin as previously thought.  The first identity released was that of Joseph Catacanas, 32, a known petty criminal from Castrum in the Greater Kontos theme. The second was Paul Stonemason, also 32, an HGV and amateur racing lorry driver from Gluvum in the Central Plains theme. It is thought he acted as the getaway driver for the money after the lorry was loaded with it. The third was an ex-People?s Guardsman, Carl Ioannes, 41, from Tagmatica itself. The fourth and final member of the gang formally charged last night is the most surprising. It is the owner of two of the largest ferry companies in Tagmatium, Isaac Nicetas.  Nicetas, 37, owns Petrium-Borean Shipping, which carries all of the traffic from the Tagmatine mainland and the Borean Principalities and the Lesser Jaihu Ferries Company, which transports most cargo on the Lesser Jaihu River. He is thought to also be the single richest man in the Greater Holy Empire, possessing in excess of HS10 billion.  More on the story will be released as and when it becomes known. Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper  Charges dropped against Billionaire!  Isaac Nicetas, the 37 year-old multi-billionaire from Petrium, was released last night after all charges against him were dropped. This is thought to because he was leasing the property where he and the others were arrested on the 15th of March. He had no other connection to the others who were charged, and there was also no proof that Nicetas had any implication in the robbery on the Nea Knowle installation.  There have been some whispers that the release of Nicetas made be more due to his vast wealth than the lack of evidence against him, although this has been strenulously denied by both the Imperial Government, Tagmatica Metropolitan Constabulary and the lawyers employed by Mr Nicetas, who is personally yet to give a statement to the press on the matter. It is thought that he will keep a low profile until all of the robbers have been caught, but as the rest of the gang are presumed to have fled to the Lesser Jaihu Basin, which is still a remarkably lawless area of the Greater Holy Empire, this may take some time. Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper  Metropolitan of Petrium Removed from Office  In a controversial move, the Metropolitan of Petrium, the second biggest city in the Greater Holy Empire, George Wheelwright, 54, was removed from his post after comments made earlier in the week about other religions being "incorrect" and needing to be "stamped out". These come in as the latest in a long line of controversial statements on a variety of subjects, such as gay rights and abortion. Wheelwright had been warned on at least two other occasions by the Patriarch of Tagmatica, Cosmas I, about his out-spoken views.  The Metropolitan was a survivor from the old Republic, appointed by the then-Patriarch Aetius VIII, to help support the right-wing regime as it began to collapse in 1992, Like many other right-wing individuals, he survived the coup of 1995 due to Holy Emperor Theodosius' announcement of amnesty to those of the old regime as long as they swore fealty to the new Imperial Government. This mistake, done in the interests of the newly re-founded Holy Empire, led to the Civil War of 2005.  The sacking of the Metropolitan has led to the re-opening of the debate on just how far freedom of speech can be pushed before what said becomes intolerable. There are fears that this move by the Orthodox Church could lead as a dangerous precedent, as others maybe removed from their posts for holding "outspoken" views. On the other hand, if truly offensive views are not suppressed, they could lead to violence and civil disturbance. These are the two sides of the debate that is going on in the Tagmatine press at the moment, and is one of the most hotly-discussed topics since Imperial involvement in the Hidaya Miliki conflict of earlier this year. Tagmatium Rules
TBC Evening News Broadcast  The Ministry of War has announced that it maybe time to put the Challenger tank, the workhorse of the Tagmatine Army for the past twenty years, out to pasture. The Challenger has seen active service across Europa, and was most memorable for its activities in the Civil War, where it was called by some "the saviour of the Holy Empire" in its battle against first the Conservative League of Tagmatium, then the Fascist League of Tagmatium. "After an active service of, on average, 15 years, the tanks have begun to wear out," said the Minister of War today. "It is a sad moment for the Greater Holy Empire, but the Challenger tank will need to be replaced sometime in the near future. They just are not up to combat anymore." When asked whether the new tank would be foreign bought or home-made, the Minister of War had this to say: "Of course, I would like to say that the replacement of the Challenger would be home-made, as it befits the pride of the oldest professional army in Europa, with a history of over a thousand years. But, with the recent expansion of the navy, large-scale deployments at home and abroad as well as the rearmament of the entire military with new weaponry, we may not have enough money to begin a big research and development programme at this time. A ready-made tank maybe the only thing we can afford, even if it is a foreign purchase." We leave you with another image of the Challenger in action during the Civil War. Link to comment

Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper  Imperial Government Announces Travel Ban on Upper Strathclyde  The Imperial Government has announced a travel ban on its citizens. This travel ban covers the nation of Upper Strathclyde, recently rocked by Anarchist revolution after the nation?s government, which was elected in a very suspect election, tried to turn the nation into a Fascist dictatorship. Also, any Upper Strathclyde nationals will also be turned away from Imperial borders, whether they have come via another nation or not.  This travel ban is to stop any citizens of the Greater Holy Empire from visiting the Anarchistic republic and gaining ideas or information that maybe used against Tagmatium, although the Imperial Government insists that the move has been brought into protect Tagmatine nationals from the turbulent atmosphere of a nation that has just under gone a revolution.  The move itself is not surprising, as many long-established nations could see the founding of an Anarchic nation as a direct threat to their rule over their various peoples. Tagmatium is no exception to this, and the Imperial Government has taken action as a result. There also may be a slight fear of any Fascists fleeing to the Greater Holy Empire, as the Cotswalan Mountains was were the recent Civil War flared up in and where some of the fiercest fighting was seen, as the Fascist League of Tagmatium, which split off from the Conservative League, had its base. The ex-Commonwealth of Paphlagonia, north of the Cotswalan range, was also were many right-wingers fled after their defeat in the Civil War and prior to its annexation by the Greater Holy Empire.  The US is also seen by most as a surprisingly militaristic nation given its extremely left-wing politics, and it is thought by some that it is only a matter of time before Upper Strathclyde either tries to export its views to other nations, by encouraging home-grown movements or spreading it. The high military content may also indicate that the US isn't afraid to use its muscle to spread its views, or that the nation is teetering on the brink of a military dictatorship.  The Anarchist Party of Tagmatium, a long established political party, is also thought to be under surveillance by the shady Internal Intelligence Inspectorate (III), Tagmatium?s internal intelligence service, inorder to see whether they are in contact with any US citizens.  OOC: Sorry, US, it?s nothing personal. It?s just how the nation of Tagmatium would react to the setting up of an Anarchist nation. Sort of like the international feeling towards the nascent USSR in the early 1920s.  Surprise over New Tank Plans  On Saturday last week, the 25th of March, the Minister of War announced that the Challenger Main Battle Tanks, which has served the Greater Holy Empire admirably for nearly 20 years, were to be scrapped and that the Imperial Government had little money to spend on an expensive research programme into a new Main Battle Tank for the army after large spending in the previous few years. However, on Monday 27th, it was announced that the Imperial Government was going to do just that, albeit in partnership with an ally, the People?s Federation of Adaptus.  When the Minister of War was recently questioned by one of our reporters on this as he made his way down the steps from the Imperial Palace Complex, he seemed rather taken aback by this question, standing open mouthed for a while before refusing to comment.  This may show that the vast amount that will be spent on this project was planned all along, or that the Imperial Government will cut spending from another field inorder to pay for this. Tagmatium Rules
Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper Upper Strathclyde ?Joins Nuclear Club? Â The Free Anarchy of Strathclyde has announced today that it has successfully tested a nuclear artillery piece. The US government has freely admitted that it is striving towards a nuclear arsenal, and that this weapon is the first in such an armoury. Â Although no nation has yet officially commented on such a development, a source in the Imperial Government has admitted that the administration of the Greater Holy Empire is ?disturbed? by such a revelation. It is thought that previous intelligence gained by the Imperial Government did not point in any way the Free Anarchy attempting to gain entry to Europa?s surprisingly select ?Nuclear Club?. Many regimes will undoubtedly be concerned that the Free Anarchy has got its hands on such weapons, as it is a very unstable state, as well as being vehemently opposed to oppressive governments, which do make up the majority of regimes in the region. Â The Greater Holy Empire has time and time again renounced the use and possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, a stance which has led Tagmatium to be lauded amongst some circles in Europa. This development has produced ripples in these circles, and many think that this will lead to wider nuclear armament within the region. One organisation, the Campaign of Nuclear Disarmament, is said to be ?very concerned?. Â Another source with in the Imperial Government has suggested that Tagmatium is considering military action against the Free Anarchy, in case it attempts to expand its nuclear arsenal yet further, although the Imperial Government has released a statement denying this, saying that such a move will only escalate the situation. Â Tagmatica Guardian Tagmatium?s Premier Newspaper Free Anarchy Tests First ICBM Â The Free Anarchy of Upper Strathclyde has tested its first Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile, very soon after the announcement it had a programme, and very soon after tests of its nuclear artillery. The missile tested had a 15kt warhead. Â This test has caused much concern throughout the region, even more than its recent nuclear artillery test. There have been calls to the Free Anarchy to stop and renounce its development of the ?ultimate weapon?, as it is regularly called in Tagmatium, as this will only provoke the regimes that are ranged against Upper Strathclyde. Â The Imperial Government itself has announced a full trade embargo on the Free Anarchy, and is apparently considering a full blockade of Upper Strathclydean ports, so that no more technology of this level can enter into the very unstable nation. The Greater Holy Empire has called upon other League of the Treaty nations to announce a full trade embargo on Upper Strathclyde as well, as well as attempting to stop uranium or nuclear technologies into the nation. Â This move has been renounced by several political parties in Tagmatium, as it may just antagonise the Free Anarchy at a time when it really should be brought back into the main fold of Europan politics, especially as it now has its hands on nuclear technologies. ?We must work to bring the Free Anarchy a more accepted state, and such a move by the Imperial Government will only drive Upper Strathclyde further into the realms populated by rogue states? said a spokesperson of the Socialist Worker?s Party of Tagmatium, David Archimedes. Â It is yet to be seen whether other nations will follow the Greater Holy Empire?s lead and declare a trade embargo on the Free Anarchy. Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
Holy Imperial Press Statement  As of today, Thursday 13th of April, 2006, a trade embargo is placed by the Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium on the Free Anarchy of Upper Strathclyde.  This means that Tagmatium will no longer trade with Upper Strathclyde, no goods will be exported to the US, and no imports will be accepted. All goods that have arrived will be impounded to be disposed of.  It is now also a criminal offence under Tagmatine law to trade with Upper Strathclyde, or any of its citizens. Any Tagmatine citizen found guilty of this crime will face a minimum fine of HS300 and a maximum prison sentence of 5 years.  It is also illegal for any Tagmatine-owned or based business to trade with Upper Strathclyde or any of its citizens. If found guilty, it faces a minimum fine of HS10,000. The owner(s) also face a minimum fine of HS3000 and a maximum prison fine of 5 years.  All Upper Strathclyde citizens will be expelled from the Greater Holy Empire. They may voluntarily leave, in which case the Imperial Government will cover any travel costs to Upper Strathclyde and any shipment costs of possessions. The deadline for leaving voluntarily will close a week today. Any Upper Strathclydean citizen that has not left by then will be forcibly expelled, and any property seized at His Imperial Majesty?s leisure.  Property such as businesses and homes will be seized by the Imperial Government, as until any such hostilities and bad relations between Upper Strathclyde and Tagmatium end.  Any vessel owned by an Upper Strathclyde citizen or registered in that nation that enters into Tagmatine waters will be seized, unless the vessel has been forced into port by a risk to the crew and passengers or the vessel. If this is the case, then once conditions have improved, the vessel will be escorted out of port and Tagmatine waters by a Holy Imperial Naval escort.  Tagmatine owned or registered vessels are also now prohibited from entering Upper Strathclyde waters or ports, unless there is a risk to the lives of the crew and passengers and the vessel itself.  The Free Anarchy of Upper Strathclyde is also now considered a Terrorist State by the Greater Holy Empire, due to its actions against civilians in Suverina and its invasion and conquering of the sovereign state of Komzestan. The Greater Holy Empire will now actively support any native Upper Strathclydean organisation that is attempting to over throw the Free Anarchy and set up a Socialist state in its place. We will see who the more is moral, when your people flock illegally or otherwise, to our free nation. Link to comment
Tagmatium Rules
Holy Imperial Press Statement  ---US Message to Tagmatium Attached---  The Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium completely renounces the claims of the Military Dictatorship of Upper Strathclyde. The Imperial Government has not laid claim to the moral high ground in this verbal conflict between us and the Military Dictatorship, but it does feel that it is blatantly obvious that Tagmatium does possess it.  This is due to the fact that Upper Strathclyde not only encourages terrorism and insurrection in other nations, but also commits war crimes on civilians and invades sovereign nations with the aim of carving them up between its allies. These are not the actions of a state that has the interests of the common person at heart, only the interests of the coven of generals that govern it. A true Anarchic state would not pursue such militaristic goals, nor would it develop such hideous weaponry, and Upper Strathclyde is a threat to the stability of the region.  The Imperial Government of Tagmatium also rejects the suggestion that the nation is an oppressive state. This is a lie, spread by the propagandists of the Military Dictatorship in order to justify its support of terrorists and criminals, as well as its seemingly endless programmes of weapons of mass destruction.
