Hm, so you say I'm a hater? I know there a citizens of the United States of America amongst us so it was not my intention to cause any trouble. I hope most of us are mature enough to see the irony in this. I wonder what you would get if you took the test..

 

Ps: I thought about making it 'disliking minority' but because I don't like changing other peoples words it kept it this way. Don't forget, I didn't make this test, I just took it.

I thought it was quite funny, its hardly meant to be serious. its just highlighting the general feeling of anti-US sentiment there is in the world at the moment

 

I am british(and so the outcome was pretty correct really...) and i think the rest of the world can see why people dont like america better than the US can itself.

 

Personally, i don't hate america, or americans, i don't particularily like the way the government goes about things, such as caring more about their economy than the state of the world (the Kyoto agreement was a joke without them, 25% of the worlds greenhouse gases, and refuse to sign of the grounds that it could'hurt their economy', i'm sorry if i think the lives of the future generations is more importennt than allowing some of the richest executives in the richest country in the world the get a slightly lower bonus this year)

 

I don't hate americans, i just don't like the governments 'we know best because we're bigger and more powerful than anyone else' attitude

ps come on bright eyes! how can i, an american, take this test fairly? hmm? it was made to completely to down the american people and their government. do you know how the election takes place here? ever heard of elcetorial vote? we the people do not get to choose the president. there is the ELECTORIAL votes and the POPULAR votes and its not who is more popular with the people but who can get the state officials in their pockets and get the electorial votes. but just to humor you sad little self i took the test.

just a few more thoughts on this, i came here because i was invited i didnt invade! i thought Europa was more of an united region than a members only club. i cant control what my governemt does but dont insult me. one bad apple does not ruin the bunch. i thought we was a group of people from around many places and came here to play NationStates. thats a racial and very hate filled site/test and is VERY VERY VERY obvious that it is offensive! it was a poor judgement to even post that here KNOWING you would offend any american that was on here. if i cant have your respect then i dont wish to work with you on this forum either. i resign from the RP moderator spot and will probably see myself looking for a new region.

I think people here in Europe, like Phil said, don't actually hate Americans, but Bush' policies. From what I've read, i understand you're not really fond of Bush either (I can't read minds though..), but you do love your country (as test indicated).

 

 

The 'humorous' of this test is based on generalisations. The possible choises already indicate this. The results even more, they make fun of almost everyone.

- Hippies are described as:

"the only progress yielded from your political naievity has been truncheon bruises and an improvement in making slogans.. a bit of improvement".

- Europeans are stereotyped by picturing a typical English lord (monocle, umbrella,..), a French dude (with moustache, snail and funny hat) and pictures Hitler as a typical european politician (i can imaging german people might not like him pictured as a representation of Germany on the whole).

- The test also stereotypes muslims as terrorists.

- The typical American is pictured by a little boy with a "I love NY" t-shirt (nothing wrong here), a patriotic soldier doing his duty... and a Ku Klux Klan member, while the according text pictures them as flag-waving ignorant beings. http://robertandtim.topcities.com/quiz/min...allresults.html

 

If you want to start a serious political thread, about Trans-Atlantic politics, the war on terrorism, Afghanistan, Iraq,.. I won't stop you. But please, don't make that mistake. If you're discussing, do not generalise.

True. On the whole the site has definatly an anti-american sentiment. It might not have been totally appropriate to post, but Orioni didn't post it to cause trouble. The test was meant funny, but can indeed be seen as rude and offensive. It was a bit of bad judgement indeed.

Ah, now I see where Pot's post in the map thread came from.

 

Here's what I have to say on the matter:

 

I am also a politician, a Republican Regional Director for a three-state region. But I am also an American. While I did not take personal offense to the specific post by Orioni, I did take offense to the whole concept of the test. I also took it, and also came up classified as a "Meathead," something that shows just how ignorant and misinformed the test truly is. I am truly disgusted that someone wastes their time and internet space to post this horse dung and make it sound like an objective analysis of who someone is. If you hate America, then fine, hate America, it is your God-given right to do whatever the hell you want to do. But you should recognize that 9/11 changed the country in a way that none of you could possibly understand. America, never having been attacked on her mainland since the War of 1812 suddenly felt vulnerable. We felt the need, and still feel the need, to make sure that nothing like that ever has the chance of happening again. And whether you like Bush or hate him, you must realize that he is fulfilling this idea - to make America more secure. We don't have time for charity and idle talks of peace and happiness if we can't be sure we'll be safe walking out to get the mail.

 

You must also realize that every nation in the history of the world that has found themselves in the position that America is in, has had the same set of events and taken on the same mindset. In France, when Napoleon ascended to the most powerful position in France, he went on the offensive against the rest of Europe. When Britain gained ascendancy in the early history of the US, it imposed its will on Europe without consideration for the other nations' interests. When Germany gained superiority in the early 20th century, they went offensive. And now, when the crown falls to the United States, should we expect them to sit mildly by and kiss the butts of the world knowing full well that they intend to stab the US in the back to get a bigger piece of the pie? If that's what you expect, you are naive, terribly naive. Eventually, the power of America will wane, and another power will emerge to impose its will on the world, and no one should be surprised.

 

However, this is besides the point, to a certain extent. Pot and I are both Americans, and I feel we are contributing members of the region to the extent that if we were both to leave it would set back Europa several months. Now, I don't blame Pot for wanting to leave, but I would beg him to stay. Pot, although we may not see eye to eye on islands and international waters, I do hold you in the highest regards and sincerely appreciate everything you do. Please please please don't leave.

 

As for the rest of you, I have not openly flouted my being an American because it was unimportant until now. We are Europans and our goal here is to leave real life behind, if for only a little while, and enjoy living in a region free of RL strife.

oh dear, i feel that i've just added wood to the fire with my last post, SS, i really don't want you to leave, i havn't seen the map thread yet, but from your comments it looks as if its down, i really am soory for any offence i have caused, and i must say i wasnt too imperessed with the test anyway, whatever you came out as you stood to be insulted, i was a little miffed to have my home represented by an upper class english toff, a nazi and a steriotypical frenchie, but it did treat the US more unfairly than most, as was the point of the test.

 

It is true, some people do think like this, from the look of the test it was created by an anti-governmental american, i cant see a european creating the europe picture, and i know none of my british friends understand the american governmental institution, come to think of it, i'm not even sure how the british one works entirly...

 

I wouldn't want Pot to leave, he is a major member of the community, if he leaves then europa will likly fall apart. I don't consider myself anti-american, and i'm sure oriani doesn't either. As V said, all powerful nations have made their mistakes, including britain, in the past, and the next world power, probobly China, will undoubtadly make their own.

 

So pot, please don't leave, based on the posting of an abusive test, which orioni posted as she thought people would apreciate some of the humorous comments it makes about hippies. Even if some of the sweeping steriotypes and generalisations are sometimes insulting
