Economy Cllr Hiram Hiramson announced this project on Friday, stating: “The pilot project will test 5G-based smart city solutions, as part of its ongoing 5G trials.” “These projects are the first real trial for Orioni's future 5G platform. The projects will be rolled out in Gruis,” added Hiramson. Smart solutions will be offered to the city residents. In recent years this city has led the way in testing innovative technologies; sometimes these work out well, other times there is a backlash, as with the e-scooters. Hiramson described how the trials are based on Internet of Things (IoT), Video Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies leveraging L&T’s Smart City platform, Fusion. “Our goal is to address the challenges of increased urbanisation, operating efficiency, and robust security”" With this announcement, Hiramson’s wants to develop use cases for the next-generation network technology. Opposition leader Mrs Ihova Myna raised questions on selection of Gruis. “Is it no coincidence that yet another advanced project is awarded to the hometown of Chairlady Revozi,” she argued. Previously, during the auction, the opposition parties also openly criticised the government for selecting two foreign companies over national carriers. The 5G-spectrum was auctioned in 2020. Two companies joined in the bidding. Parau from @Gallambria won 700 MHz and 2100 MHz. Elegy from @Sunset Sea Islandswon the 1400 MHz spectrum. 9 Link to comment

The first heavy icebreaker in the CAOS scientific fleet, Beredo will begin the first of many annual journeys to Antargis. Its mission is the resupply of all existing scientific Antargic stations. The ship will be making stops at numerous points along its journey, including Berenyi Island, Balter, and Odberge. “Under the watchful eye of experienced Miirosi Captain Beinteinn Versson, the 150 women and men aboard the Beredo will conduct this essential mission to create a navigable path through seasonal and multiyear ice as thick as 6 m (ca. 20 feet). This allows refuel and resupply ships to reach Simon Station, the largest Antarctic station and the logistics hub of the ISTC Antargic Program,” according to the CAOS. The crew have mounted a camera to the bow of the ship. A live feed of the journey is available on Wittier. The feed is, mostly, fixed on the view in front of them. They also upload pictures of their journey. Currently, the CAOS's current operational Antargic fleet only includes the 173 m long, heavy icebreaker Beredo. She will soon be joined by the IRV Menelassar and the IRV Connor Grey. These three ships will become the world’s largest and most powerful nuclear-powered icebreakers. “I am immensely proud of all the hard work and dedication the men and women of the Beredo have demonstrated to get our ship ready,” said Beinteinn Versson, commanding officer of the Beredo. The CAOS is working to construct these innovative polar landing craft "to ensure access to the Polar Regions, and to protect the Eurth's environmental and scientific interests. When the mission is complete, the ship returns to dry dock in order to conduct critical maintenance and repairs in preparation for the next mission. To support this endeavour, the CAOS is exploring options to expand its infrastructure to support the growing icebreaker fleet. 7 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports EOS aircraft increase Saeida Strait sorties Written by Anidiriwi Weficho ALHAFA, Ayubi -- The EOS military flew a record number of spy planes over the Strait of Saeida in November, as tensions simmer between the world’s largest alliance, EOS, and the upstart Occidental-Azanian Pact (OCA). Geographic realities make this western Oriental Ocean the prevailing theatre of confrontation. Since this summer, the public has become increasingly aware of the problem. EOS aircraft carried out 49 sorties last month, said southern Europa Expert Jesin Gagari in a post on his verified Wittier account: "This was a 50 per cent increase from the previous record in August. An anti-submarine surveillance plane accounted for 80 per cent of the sorties." Gagari also alleged that OCA diplomats also sent a separate letter protested against the holding of the exercises with the Ayubi and Damak Var in August, which took place right after the recent invasion of Dragonryders. The past six months have seen frequent incursions of OCA fishing vessels into the Meteorolan nations' EEZ. There is little understanding of the nature of this threat. At its core, OCA-EOS competition is not purely an economic or ideological struggle, but a military contest for strategic dominance. The initial centre of gravity of any OCA-EOS conflict will be in the western Oriental Ocean. Ayubi and Damak Var are the most obvious targets. These southern islands, better known for their beaches, are seen as a potential staging ground in any future conflicts. This area was always a crucial stepping stone for expansionist forces seeking to expand their power from one region to the other. Their strategic position makes them the most critical target in a major conflict. Located at the western end of the Meotorolan archipelago, the islands control some of the most congested shipping routes on Eurth. EOS military officials say that the islands could be a major staging point for bombers, submarines, and troops in any conflict involving the OCA in the Meteorolas, including any clash over the Saeida Strait. A spokesperson for the Entente commented in an email to Roiters News that: “EOS ships and aircraft routinely operate within the international waters of the Saeida Strait, and are committed to supporting its network of alliances and partners and upholding the freedom of navigation.” Reached for comment by Roiters, the Varian embassy in O'polis referred to comments by Foreign Minister Zaki al-Ozer. He asserted that Damak Var “has deployed around 15,000 troops, tanks, artillery, electronic warfare systems, air and naval units along the western shores. The extra fighters will bolster readiness and allied deterrence and defence as OCA continues its military build-up around the Meteorolas.” He added that Avantine had “received information about a covert attempt to destabilize the country through disinformation.” Meanwhile, OCA spokesman Ernst Gardner said Monday at a press briefing in Godstone that his country opposed the flights and urged the EOS to stop them. “This severely infringes on Azania's territorial security,” he said. “This is aimed at creating tensions and will drive the risk of regional conflict.” Mr Gardner added that: “This is a matter of great concern for us, especially in terms of westward expansion of EOS and forward deployment of its military infrastructure and troops. Such actions tremendously deteriorate the situation in Azania.” Chairlady Awidefale Rezovi is taking a strong stance to oppose the OCA's broad territorial incursion in southern Europa. The Imperial Orinese Navy has conducted a joint naval exercise involving ships earlier this year in the sea where Mahdah, Damak Var and Ayubi have sovereignty claims. It also reaffirms what many observers have long suspected about the ongoing but long-stalled negotiations between Orioni and the OCA over a peaceful solution to the ongoing continental conflict. 9 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Pipkin's perspective on OCA and Great Anglia Written by Anidiriwi Weficho ANDRO -- Sir Andrew Pipkin was a prominent character in global affairs up until his retirement in 2019. He served in many roles, including councillor of foreign affairs, ambassador to @Vanarambaion, and most notably a co-founder of the Entente of Oriental States (EOS). We sat down with Sir Pipkin to discuss his new book, Diplomacy of Orioni, and the recent developments on Eurth that impact glubal politics. ROITERS: It is good to see you, Sir Pipkin. How have you been? PIPKIN: I'm doing well, thank you. I'd like to thank Roiters for this great opportunity. While I've officially left the diplomatic world behind, from time to time my former colleagues still ask me for advice. Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in. Recently, the wurld has been gripped by the explosive events in Occidental and Azanian Europa. What is your take on this? It is critical to consider what might happen should the Occidental-Azanian Pact (OCA) attack EOS, and what might happen if we do not start thinking long-term about the impact of this crisis. An attack, should it happen, should serve as a long-overdue wake-up call for the EOS about @Great Anglia's intentions to establish an exclusive sphere of influence in Southern Europa and assert Godstone’s claims to exercising influence in Eastern Europa, within EOS’s perimeter. Assuming the Entente finally recognizes the immediacy of the threat, the best additional outcome would be the armament of our Meteorolan allies. Additionally, increase the EOS military presence along the Western Flank, including permanent bases in Ayubi and Damak Var. If you are King Creighton, how often can you threaten military action without carrying it out before your adversaries start calling your bluff and not taking you seriously? The majority of experts judge the threat of an OCA attack to be real or very real, based on the mobilization of tens of thousands of troops and heightened disinformation campaigns against Orioni and her allies. This creates the potential for a fabricated provocation that could force an Orinese response, and thus provide an excuse for an invasion. Godstone’s calculation is presumably that it can wrest some kind of concessions by its troop build-up, or at the very least demonstrate to O'polis the limits of Eastern willingness to help. If Anglia does not win concessions for its threats, they may feel compelled to engage in military action, though the inevitable costs of such an action may deter Godstone. Should the East do more to aid the Unaligned States of Azania? The Unaligned States of Azania (USA), in isolation, are unlikely to be able to deter the OCA. The East must vocally and sincerely voice its commitment to Azania's territorial integrity. Anglia's perception that the East will not step in to defend Azania is a key factor in its calculation regarding the annexation of territories. Godstone is likely seeking divisions in EOS to exploit. Sanctions, equipping resistance, and vocal diplomacy will be key. Can this conflict only be resolved with violence, or are there other solutions? Well, yes, but EOS would need to spend money. Not only on developing real, exercised military capabilities. But also on shoring up the infrastructure across the Continent, especially East-West. This is to ensure that military mobility requirements are met. And to demonstrate these capabilities through a series of exercises. Most importantly, the EOS allies and partners would need to show that they are capable of reaching a consensus to respond with meaningful sanctions. For example: begin by cutting OCA banks off from the international financial markets, as well as showing resolve to respond with force should King Creighton III try to use military threats against the Entente. This presumes everything goes right for EOS. What if that's not the case? The worst-case scenario would be yet another round of verbal condemnations and toothless sanctions, which would serve to strengthen OCA’s belief that EOS lacks the will to match their challenge. Should the response to an OCA attack be more of the same, Oriental security could deteriorate dramatically. The zone of competition would shift from Southwestern Europa to Southeastern Europa and the Meteorolan island states. The next round of demands could be a de facto “absorption” of the archipelago and pressure on Orioni and the EOS to remove military assets from the area. In this scenario, Anglia would apply international pressure and could render Orioni increasingly irrelevant to the overall strategic balance in Europa. Amidst continued speculation, what do you think the endgame of this conflict could look like? If the EOS shows that it has a spine when it comes to first principles and national interests, the outcome of the OCA crisis will be a watershed. It could end Godstone’s neo-imperial drive, and offer hope not only in Europa but all across Eurth. Seizing territory is one thing; keeping it is another. King Creighton is not primarily after land — he has plenty — but after an assured position for Anglia as a great power. Godstone desires its own sphere of influence, recognized by both minions and other great powers, in a revamped Europan security order. Any lasting solution to the security dilemmas in Western Europa must be deep and complete. It will also give Anglia itself a chance to abandon the path of empire and become a “normal” state, with influence proportional to its power. However, if Europan leaders fail once more to acknowledge reality and stand up to it, in the coming decade the Continent will find itself in an ever-more precarious security situation. Unfortunately, experiences of the past appear to suggest that neither future foreign reactions nor a pacifist stance of ordinary Anglians can be counted on as constraining factors. In these dark last days of the year, is there any hope of peace for our time? Of course, there's always hope. A combination of three factors could constrain Anglia. First, the prospect of severe economic sanctions. Second, maximum public exposure of the military build-up and civilian casualties: this would minimise the element of surprise available to Anglia. Third, a calculation in Godstone that military escalation would lead to unacceptable Anglian casualties. To be clear, however, none of these factors on its own is likely to deter Godstone, although all three together might. Well, this is about all we have time for today. Thank you, Sir Pipkin, for your time. The book is called Diplomacy of Orioni, and the first of six volumes hits the bookshelves tomorrow. 8 Link to comment
Popular Post Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Piloting the Concorde is “absolutely astonishing” Written by Tomasi Tebaki O'POLIS -- It is the most iconic aircraft that flies in the Orinese skies today. While its Lysian-made parent can also break the sound barrier, the three supersonic aircraft owned and operated by Oriental Airlines (OA) since January 2022 have since reached a status of glamour. Celebrities and influencers clamour to book a seat on the supersonic aeroplane. Famous musicians, sports stars, it-girls, and tycoons flying around the Eurth help to create this aura of glamour. With the prestige that comes from flying Concorde, the officers piloting them have become celebrities themselves. “I lost my head in the clouds a little,” says Anitonīyo Yapi, a First Officer of Concorde, in an exclusive interview with Roiters. He continued: “It is a different way of life. As a pilot, you are already put on a pedestal. On a flight, I get a laugh and like a comedian, I need that laugh. But you do not want to stay on the pedestal. Because that makes you a bit of an ass. You begin to believe in yourself too much.” But the experience proves mostly positive. A senior first officer for six years, Yapi says that flying Concorde “is a magic experience. I could not wish for a better life.” “Who wouldn’t want to fly a Concorde? Plenty of other pilots wish to be in my seat, flying from O'polis to Tagmatika and back, and to Alhafa and back.” Of course, not everybody can be a Concorde pilot. With cockpit seats in high demand and a difficult training course to complete, the chances of actually qualifying are fairly minimal. When Yapi applied to fly the Concorde, he did not expect much. After all, he was still fairly new to the company. “You have to be very precise when flying the aeroplane,” Yapi explains, “And in my class, I was the most precise pilot on all my simulator flights.” Because of its unique design, Concorde does not behave like a normal aircraft. “When you are travelling at that speed and air rushes over the wings, changing the altitude by half a degree, the rate of climb or descent will be about 500 metres per minute.” Yapi says he could not wish for a better life. But will the Concorde continue to soar? The ongoing events in western Europa are creating operations problems for aero crafts. There's no doubt that the occupation of Lysia by @Great Anglia will impact aircraft maintenance. Will we soon see a shortage of replacement parts? 10 Link to comment

Ahuni marks not just the start of spring, but also the start of the solar year. It was celebrated by millions of Orinese people on March 21. Men and women in Orioni and the Orinese diaspora welcomed their new year by lighting torches and fires, and climbing up a mountain where large Orinese flags had been put on display under colourful explosions of fireworks. It symbolises the passing of the dark season, and the arrival of the season of light. The festivity is celebrated by Orinese in Tamurin, Bainbridge Islands, Niederoestereich, and elsewhere. Ahuni in Oharic means "New Day", and it is also known as Orinese New Year. The festival has sentimental importance as it symbolises Orinese culture, and the cultural ties that bind them across vast distances. More than 5 million Orinese live in Tamurin, Bainbridge Islands, Niederoestereich, Mekabiri, San Ba, and Damak Var. The festival is also popular in Hufahitha, Pañkaiana in @Safiloa, where thousands gather every year. The holiday, dating back 3000 years and incorporating ancient traditions, is the most important event in the Orinese calendar and for Orinese in the region. It is the equivalent of New Year’s and Salvian Christmas rolled into one. While there are many unique traditions connected to the Ahuni that run across the Eurth, many communities will mark today with some sort of feast, and by spending time with family members and friends. On Sunday, various leaders and politicians offered their best wishes to those celebrating the festival of Ahuni. Empress Joni, monarch of Orioni, shared her greetings on Wittier, saying she hoped for peace and happiness for all. “Congratulations to all those celebrating Ahuni, both in Orioni and around the wurld. May the year ahead be one of peace, prosperity, and wellbeing for all,” the Empress declared on Wittier on Sunday. Chairlady Awidefale Rezovi also wished those celebrating the festival of Ahuni “peace, prosperity and wellbeing.” 11 Link to comment
Popular Post Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Orioni may introduce conscription as Anglo-Azanian conflict stokes fears Written by Yohana-Ileni Kirichati O'POLIS -- Orioni is considering introducing compulsory military service for young citizens of one year, said defence councillor Toren Nabérrie in an apparent reversal of the island’s years-long transition from conscription to a volunteer-only military. The OCA-Anglian invasion of Azania and elsewhere has reignited debates in Orioni over the readiness of its defence force for a potential escalation of tensions with Anglia. The OCA insinuated claims over the Meteorolan archipelago as a territory it must at some point “liberate”. The Orinese government has been increasing defence spending and weapons procurement from its EOS partners. But at the same time, it has been trying to change its defence force to an entirely voluntary organisation and address long-running problems with training and resources. On Saturday, Orioni’s defence councillor, Toren Naberrié, said the current system was “inadequate” in the event of a conflict, and that “the IODF would review and report on a proposal for extension.” Naberrié added that any changes would not happen quickly, and the undertakings would be at least 3 months away. When asked for comment, the office of Chairlady Awidefale Rezovi told Roiters the imperial council was considering everyone’s views, but that nothing was decided. It added that training content needed to be reformed to better answer the needs of modern warfare. After the disturbing decades of the Thalassan War (1941-47) and Argic Wars (1949-54, 1968-74), Orioni enforced compulsory service of two to three years. Every male over 18 was required to complete six months of training service in the military, in a supporting role to the mostly voluntary force. The six months, often derided as a “summer camp”, included about eight weeks of basic training. Participants could deduct time if they had done training classes with school or college. They became reservists at the end of the six months. This policy met its end in the early 2000s, when SPO proposed to revoke the law. Over the next decade, conscription was replaced with an expanded voluntary service. However, problems with Orioni’s armed forces are well documented. Despite major weapons purchases and increases in military budgets, the IODF continues to struggle with insufficient recruitment in key frontline sectors. Re-introduction of mandatory service would be likely to get public support. A recent poll, conducted last week by Roiters, found that 59.7 per cent of respondents believes it would improve Orioni’s defence posture against the perceived Anglian aggression. 10 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Opposition wants higher defence budget Written by Yohana-Ileni Kirichati O'POLIS -- The opposition parties consider an increase in spending on defence to 2 per cent “absolutely acceptable.” Opposition leader Mr Edric Kageni (PO&N) has proposed, “subject to conditions,” an even bigger increase in the defence budget than what the government already decided in mid-2021. After years of budget stagnation, the Rezovi-government decided, just after the Anglian conflict began, to increase spending from 1.05 to 1.5 per cent of GDP. Since then, another billion ORP was added to improve military preparedness. But EOS sets a higher bar, and if it depends on Chairlady Awidefale Rezovi (SPO), our country will achieve that goal. Later this year, the Chairlady has to go to the important annual EOS summit. She would like to be able to announce there that Orioni will also reach 2 per cent. Rezovi seems to have the support of the opposition in her pocket. Mr Kageni said in an interview with Roiters that he and his party “find 2 per cent an acceptable target. But the message is not: let the money roll in.” Kageni, therefore, links four conditions to the support of his PO&N party. First: there should be more EOS cooperation so that all countries buy compatible weapon systems. Secondly, money shouldn't be given hastily to foreign-made weaponry, just because Orioni does not manufacture it ourselves. “Government has to take its time to build up a native industry. You should not go too fast. Orinese companies must benefit from this increased spending.” The third condition is the social role of the military. “Cybersecurity is a big threat to our economy and society,” says Kageni. “If you make a defence effort, you have to bet on that as well.” The fourth and final point is the three D's. Defence must go hand in hand with diplomacy and development. Kageni also understands this means making a more assertive case for WMD disarmament. His conditions align with what Defence Councillor Toren Nabérrie and Chairlady Rezovi themselves said. The ball is now in the court of SPO and Bleuropa, who are not eager to increase army spending even more. ⁂ (OOC. A short story to shed some light on the internal workings of my political system. Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports IODF publishes new maritime strategy Written by Anidiriwi Weficho O'POLIS -- The IODF today published a new three-year maritime strategy that focuses on improving freedom of navigation in the Oriento-Adlantic area. “Our new maritime security strategy paves the way for both government and industry to provide the support needed to tackle new and emerging threats. And to further cement Orioni’s position as a wurld leader in maritime security,” Lady Hakushaku, Councillor of trade & transportation, said in a statement published alongside the document. The government and the maritime industry are clear that maritime has an integral role to play in the future of the country. “Orioni is one of the wurld’s leading maritime nations. Its position is tied into significant historical relationships, our geographical position, and a thriving economy.” The strategy’s authors includes both the Councillors of Foreign Affairs and Defence. They also write that membership of the EOS “has given us the ability to develop policies and strategies that represent the priorities and values that matter most to our regional partners.” Among the strategy’s priorities, the Orinese government aims to increase the country’s maritime presence in the Oriento-Adlantic. This includes the forward deployment of a “Nearshore Reaction Force” to the South-Oriental Ocean and will “maintain a presence off the Azanian coast,” according to the document. The maritime sector will see significant impact from the westward shift in the glubal economy and new emerging markets in Alharu and Aurelia. 2 Link to comment

The princess, whose name has yet to be announced, slept in her mother's arms during her first public appearance outside Idili Hospital, in O'polis. The princess, who is third in line to the throne, was delivered at 13:01 OST on Monday after a short labour. The baby was born less than three hours after the couple arrived at Idili Hospital. The Grand Prince Consort of Dion was present for the birth of the 3.8 kg baby. The couple emerged from the hospital to crowds of well-wishers and the wurld's media. They stood on the steps briefly before heading back into the hospital. The duchess had been in hospital for just over 12 hours before leaving. They did not speak to the media. However, in a statement, the Imperial Court commented: “Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received.” The family will stay for a few days at Bētuni Palace before retreating to their own estate outside Dion. Gun salutes were fired from Ikowachi Hill, and a banner was hung from the Sun Tower to mark the birth. It is unlikely there will be a name announced today. That may take a few days. Messages of congratulations poured in throughout the day for the couple and their first child, including ones from Empress Joni and Chairlady Rezovi. 8 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | World | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Separatist verdict in the dock Written by Yohana-Ileni Kirichati MEDA -- Nine leaders of the Medanese separatist movement were yesterday sentenced to as long as 13 years in prison for charges including the misuse of public funds. The nine were sentenced even though they were cleared of the more serious charge of rebellion, which requires evidence of organised violence. The sentences have sparked renewed protests in eastern Orioni. Commentators are speculating that the case for imprisonment could be weakened by the considerable jail time that the separatists have already served. “They’ve been jailed for two years already,” says Chu Quốc Trụ, emeritus professor of contemporary Thalassan studies at the Oriental Language Studies Center. “They were elected officials. To deprive them of liberty for two years without being found guilty causes indignation. One thing the movement will be doing is appealing to the Assembled Nations Court of Human Rights.” ⁂ Population rise and fall Written by Ruperiti Gebere O'POLIS -- Orioni’s population has dropped for the seventeenth consecutive year. According to the latest survey by the Council of Home Affairs, its population stood at 142 million in January, down half a million from last year. On the encouraging side, the survey found that there are now 6.28 million foreigners living in Orioni, also a record and up year-on-year. Another positive is Sirius, which has seen its population grow by 100,000. In recent years, Sirius has attracted young people and families due to its affordability, access to nature and international connections. But reversing the national population decline will require a broader effort, backed by the public and private sector, to change several trends in society and working culture for the better. 9 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports OCA incursions are first strike, warns EOS Written by Anidiriwi Weficho DESETI — The Entente of Oriental States said that it would consider any move by the Occidental-Azanian Pact into Meteorolan airspace as a "first strike." EOS wants to prevent OCA from growing its military force around the islands of Ayubi and Damak Var. On Friday, the Orinese permanent representative Tobiya Wayanor told journalists that the Entente takes such incursions very serious. Wayanor said "Yes" when asked if a warplane's violation of Meteorolan airspace would be seen as a first strike. “We have always said we won't be the first to strike, which means we won't do it without them firing missiles,” Wayanor said. “But now, since OCA has started using other means, that definition has changed. We will consider any crossing of military aircraft or vessels as a first strike.” EOS claims that the OCA is attempting to erode their established buffer zone. Especially since July 2021, when Ayubi and Damak Var sought to associate with EOS. For the past fifteen months, an average of one OCA military aircraft per day has crossed the median line dividing the Strait of Saeida. OCA's military aircraft and warships have stayed outside the small 12-nautical-mile (22 kilometre) area that Damak Var considers its territorial sea and airspace. According to an unnamed Varian official, Damak Var would retaliate if OCA forces crossed the line. “If any OCA's aircraft, vessel or military transport crosses the line, we won't hesitate to destroy it.” Wayanor on Wednesday said that OCA’s incursions are undermining the idea of the median line. OCA retorted that only Orioni is to blame for escalating tensions, because of EOS' more vocal support for Damak Var, and that it does not recognise the median line. Wayanor added that the Varian and Ayubid militaries plan to continue patrolling and training east of the line. “EOS wants to avoid accidents as much as possible,” he added. “We will do our best to avoid a minor incident that could make the situation worse,” Wayanor said. “But if OCA escalates their actions, we will show our determination.” ⁂ Related news: EOS and Meteorolan warplanes set to begin air drills (24 October 2022) Orinese Foreign Councillor meets Anglian ambassador to Orioni (28 October 2022) Anglian Navy enters Konstantinopoli Sea (30 October 2022) Godstone views EOS exercise as escalation (31 October 2022) EOS, Meteorolans hold Vigilant Twilight exercise (1 November 2022) Norrium warns Damak Var of ugly fallout (1 November 2022) Varian air force trains nighttime refuelling with Entente (2 November 2022) Entente, Meteorolans hold Air Force exercise amid heightened tensions (4 November 2022) Activists stage nationwide anti-war protests (5 November 2022) Two die during training exercise (7 November 2022) Kageni calls for bigger defence budget amid Meteorolan tensions (8 November 2022) HMS Duke Killion transits Saeida Strait (9 November 2022) Police abusing Reel people, reveals Mercy Int. The data was released by the AN Environmental Research and Protection Organisation. The AN’s monitoring systems show the rainforest lost an area that's roughly the size of Llalta, in the 12 months from August 2021 to July 2022. For more than a decade, it seemed like things were improving for the Azanian rainforest. Deforestation had declined dramatically. That was before the Occidental-Azanian Pact introduced its new economic policy. An analysis of the new yearly data from the ANERPO shows that in the two years since the OCA was founded, deforestation rose compared to previous years. Different satellite systems show the deforestation skyrocketed in the Autumn months of 2021. Traditionally, that time of year sees peak destruction, due to the dry season. Cutting down forest for pasture is the main cause of deforestation in Noble Nykia. “In recent years, deforestation has reached protected areas where previously there was almost no destruction,” a local resident told Roiters. “In my region, the destruction is driven by lease of land for soybean crops and cattle.” Another critical area is the central part of Abantium, the country where deforestation increased the most. This is largely attributable to the Pact's push to increase infrastructure. Most deforestation occurs alongside paved roads, where access is easier, and land value is also higher. Other mammoth projects also cause long term destruction, such as the plans to construct more airports or hydroelectric dams. Climate researchers and environmentalists have blamed economic policies for the surge in deforestation. The AN's weakened environmental agencies have urged governments to back legislative measures to tighten land protections. The head of ANERPO commented that: “There will be no economic progress without climate security for the Azanian rainforest.” The Azanian rainforest acts as a buffer against climate change by absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide. The forest is one of the most diverse in the world. It is home to isolated tribes that have lived in the forest for thousands of years. 8 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Orioni must demonstrate ability to protect Meteorolas, opposition says Written by Anidiriwi Weficho O'POLIS -- Orioni needs to show it can protect its allies if the Pact were to risk a cross-strait invasion to bring the Meteorolas under its control, said opposition leader Mr Edric Kageni this week. In recent weeks, tensions have risen even further as the Pact has threatened to invade the Meteorolas in order to bring them under its control. In response to these threats, Kageni has called on Orioni to demonstrate that it is capable of protecting its allies if the Pact were to carry out its plans. Kageni has stressed the importance of Orioni showing strength and determination in the face of the Pact's aggression, and has urged the government to take all necessary measures to defend its interests and those of its allies. O'polis has come under increasing pressure to take a more active role in defending itself and its allies against the threat of invasion by the Pact. The government to realize that it cannot rely solely on the Varian and Ayubid people, who are traditional allies of O'polis, to defend their countries against the Pact. Kageni has urged the government to commit its own forces to the fight, and to take all necessary measures to defend O'polis and its interests. Varians and Ayubids would need to have in place the weapons, systems and trained forces to hold off the invasion long enough for the EOS to overcome a blockade of the islands to come to its aid, Moulton Kageni. There are many similarities between the actions of Dolch Emperor Johannes’s unprovoked invasion of Iwenland and the Pact's threats to forcibly incorporate the last free Azano-Meteorolan states, he said. Both involve unprovoked invasions by powerful military forces, with the goal of conquering and subjugating weaker nations. The situation in Iwenland shows the potential value of combined arms warfare. Aircraft, submarines and coastal defences working together could have destroyed the approaching Dolch landing ships. Similarly, he warned that “warfare without having norms, treaties, and conventions in place is increasingly dangerous.” Kageni described how “Dolchland doesn’t care about civilian casualties. They don’t care about collateral damage.” He is specifically referencing the actions of Dolchland, which he characterizes as a nation that does not care about the welfare of civilians or the potential for collateral damage in its military actions. Kageni's comments suggest that Dolchland is willing to engage in ruthless and indiscriminate warfare in pursuit of its goals, without regard for the consequences or the potential harm to innocent bystanders. This lack of concern for the humanitarian impacts of war is seen as a major threat by Kageni, who warns that such tactics can lead to even more dangerous and destructive conflicts. Kageni's remarks highlight the importance of having norms, treaties, and conventions in place to govern the conduct of warfare, in order to prevent the kind of unchecked aggression and disregard for civilian life that Dolchland is accused of engaging in. Without such rules and regulations, the dangers of warfare are likely to escalate, with potentially disastrous consequences for all involved. Kageni explained that the Sibiseba has given the military various new powers and authorities to help them recruit and retain personnel, as well as develop new weapons systems. However, despite these new powers, Kageni claims that the military has been slow to take advantage of them and make use of these new tools. His comments suggest that the military may be hesitant to utilize the new powers and authorities granted to them by the Sibiseba. Perhaps due to concerns about how they will be used, or because they are unsure of how to effectively implement them. Whatever the reason, Kageni's remarks indicate that the military is not moving as quickly as some would like in taking advantage of these new tools and capabilities. 5 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Lovra Museum hosts rare Van Klomp masterpiece Written by Feridonanidi Nehase Tiigisiti ZUIDHAVEN -- The Lovra Museum in Zuidhaven has pulled off a great coup, securing the loan of The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies for its upcoming exhibition on 20th century Iwish art. This painting, created by the enigmatic Van Klomp (1853-1907), is a ripper of a portrait, with exaggerated features that'll make you go troppo. According to art historians, Van Klomp was a reclusive artist who lived in a small village in Iwenland during the early 20th century. Despite his talent, he struggled to gain recognition and was often overshadowed by more popular and fashionable artists of the time. As a result, he became increasingly isolated and retreated into his own world, spending long hours in his studio working on his paintings. The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies was one of Van Klomp's most famous works, and it's said to be a portrait of a woman he was once in love with, but who rejected him for a wealthier suitor. Van Klomp poured all of his frustration and heartbreak into the painting, giving the woman's breasts an exaggerated size in a fit of anger and jealousy. Now, this iconic painting is set to go on display at Lovra Museum, and visitors are sure to be captivated by its striking composition and the fascinating backstory of its creator. The exhibition runs from June 1st to September 30th, and tickets are available now. Don't miss this chance to see one of the most famous and controversial paintings of the 20th century up close! But that's not all. In addition to The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies, Lovra Museum will also be showcasing a range of other works by Van Klomp, including his lesser-known landscapes and still lifes. It's a rare opportunity to get a fuller picture of this enigmatic artist's oeuvre, and one that shouldn't be missed. So, if you're a fan of Iwish art or just want to see a bloody great painting up close, make sure to grab your tickets for the Lovra Museum exhibition. It's sure to be a corker of a show. ⁂ (OOC. Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Global upsurge of unidentified anomalous phenomena Written by Anidiriwi Weficho O'POLIS -- Police all over the world are responding to several billion reports of almost identical break-ins. The miscreant has gained entry to homes via the roof and chimney, although unusual in such instances, has been leaving more items than he has removed. Police are looking for a white man of surprisingly advanced age for this sort of caper, with a long beard, and dressed in red. He is characterised as jovial and gregarious. And in other news, zoologists are bewildered by a freakish deformity observed in a young reindeer. The arctic ruminants are generally known to have black noses. The nose of this recently arrived mutant is a sort-of Scarlett-y crimson. Boffins are at a loss to explain what could have caused this anomaly. One theory is that it is an evolutionary trait which may better enable vision in dark and inclement conditions. But wait, there's more. Paranormal investigators are attending a local home after reports of a haunting. Area businessman Ebenezer Scrooge claims to have been visited in the night by three ghosts, who he describes as “kind of whiny and sanctimonious.” Details beyond that are unclear as when Mr Scrooge was offered further assistance, he replied: “What's it going to cost me?” And last but not least, charges are believed pending following the arrest of a local cobbler accused of employing child labour. The shoemaker in question attracted the attention of the authorities when his business became suddenly profitable after years of appearing to be on the verge of bankruptcy. Officials who visited the premises discovered that the surge in productivity was due to the efforts of a pair of indentured workers, notably short in stature. The suspect's claims that they are elves is being regarded by some scepticism. ⁂ (OOC. Recently, the NASA changed its definition of “UAP”. Katherine Rohloff, press secretary for the space agency’s Science Mission Directorate, said: “NASA will be calling UAP ‘Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena’ instead of ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena’.” One does not simply pass up such an opportune moment to mix in some Christmas fun.) 8 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Orioni unveils biggest military build-up since Thalassan War Written by Anidiriwi Weficho O'POLIS -- Orioni has unveiled plans for its biggest military build-up since the Thalassan War. On this last day of the political year, the government announced that it will double defence spending, bringing it up from 1.05 to 2 percent of GDP. This move away from a defensive stance comes as Orioni seeks to counter regional threats. The government also revealed its intent to acquire long-range missiles to defend its "strategic interests." I'm joined now by Mr Ebissa Mirtus, a professor at Vega Military Academy and former special advisor to the late Chairman Ionas Strupar. ROITERS: Professor Mirtus, can you give us an idea of how significant this announcement is? Ebissa Mirtus: It is not only significant, but also long overdue. Orioni's strategic interests are surrounded by the Occidental-Azanian Pact, Great Anglian occupied territory, and northern Volsci. That is not a position of envy. While Great Anglia is smaller than Orioni in terms of economy, the OCA is growing fast and both are investing heavily in their military arsenals, while paying less attention to democracy. The announced Orioni build-up is a significant and much belated action. You've made it clear that the main driver for this military build-up is the perceived threat from Great Anglia and the OCA. But doesn't this military build-up by a traditionally defense-oriented Orioni risk escalating tensions? Tensions have already been escalated significantly by the OCA. It's a daily occurrence that Yien is conducting very much coercive action around the Meteorolan territory and waters. And Volsci - it should go without saying – is maintaining an unknown yet likely significant military capacity on the eastern coast of its huge land mass. So it's a belated response and much, much more has to be done. How does the acquisition of long-range missiles affect the military's defence capabilities? The most closely watched language will concern the new “counter strike” capability. Right now, Orioni's military is armed with missiles that can fly a few hundred kilometres at most. If the IODF acquires land or sea-launched missiles that can hit ships or land targets 1,000 kilometres away, it would have a counterstrike capability that O'polis believes will deter attacks. What other measures is Orioni taking as part of this expansion? The Orinese government will also increase transport capacity, develop cyber warfare capabilities, and stockpile spare parts and other munitions. It has also promised close cooperation with the Entente and other like-minded nations to deter threats to the established international order. Can you tell us how this major policy announcement is being received in Orioni? Sixty percent of those polled recognise the need for Orioni to build its defence capacity in conjunction with its network of partners, such as the Entente of Oriental States. However, there is a sharp division of opinions on how to fund these build-ups. Another poll, conducted earlier this year by your own news agency, found that 59.7 per cent of respondents believes the reintroduction of conscription would improve Orioni’s defence posture against the perceived Anglian aggression. Orioni is also said to be seeking closer cooperation with international pacts, such as TRIDENT, to deter threats to the established international order. Can you give us an idea of what this cooperation would look like? The Entente of Oriental States has the largest military presence in the Oriental Oceanic territory. Without Orioni, TRIDENT would have limited engagement in the Azano-Marenesian area. Orioni appears to be positioning itself as a force multiplier by seeking cooperation with Argic, Alharun, and Marenesian countries. The other Entente members also seem open to this joining of forces. How have other countries responded to this announcement? The Varian Ambassador to Orioni has stated that Chairlady Awidefale Rezovi is making a “clear, unambiguous strategic statement about Orioni's role as a security provider in the Azano-Marenesian area.” Ayubid PM Sulayem Bin Omeguy has said that he expects greater defence cooperation with Orioni. On the other hand, Great Anglia has accused Orioni of making false claims about the Pact's military activities in the Meteorolan area. Professor Mirtus, thanks speaking with us. Mirtus: Thank you. 5 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Ex-Navy officer detained in Wengabiook spy scandal Written by Anidiriwi Weficho WENGABIOOK, Yien -- The Imperial Orinese Navy was in disarray on Saturday, as a retired captain and three active officers were detained in Wengabiook on suspicion of espionage for Orioni. Meanwhile, three active diplomats were released from custody. On Saturday, the High Prosecutor's Office carried out searches and questioned seven individuals suspected of espionage. According to local media, investigators from the Spiritual Republican Guard Corps had collected evidence of their involvement in the alleged spying activity and weapons smuggling. These seven individuals were brought in for questioning to the Wengabiook Branch of the Yienite High Prosecutors Office. Following questioning, prosecutors filed a motion to detain the retired captain Wasie Wolitigna, as well as Commander Melos Amensisa and Lieutenant Commanders Tesfaye and Abay. The three diplomats were released after their identities were confirmed. According to prosecutors, Wolitigna recruited at least six officers into his spy ring and received "rewards" of between Φ250,000 and Φ500,000 from the Orinese side through a Rohinese shell company established for each individual. The investigation into the case of espionage continues, as investigators seek to determine if any additional individuals were involved. According to the findings of the investigation so far, Wolitigna began conducting business in Orioni after retiring from the Navy in 2021. Yienite prosecutors allege that he was recruited by the OSIS to serve as a spy, using his connections in the military to recruit active officers to join in the spying activities. The investigation remains ongoing. Both Wolitigna and Amensisa also stand accused of aiding in the delivery of weapons to separatist groups in eastern Yien. They are believed to have used their connections and influence within the military to facilitate illegal arms shipments to the Reel Clan. If found guilty, they risk severe prison sentences for their involvement in these activities. The case shines a light on the extent of illegal arms trafficking and support for separatist movements in Azania. The Yienite justice department released a statement, saying that the case of espionage had been exposed by military personnel who offered tip-offs and initiated the investigation into the allegations. The ministry stated that it will cooperate with prosecutors during their investigation into the case, and will not make any comments on the matter now that it has entered the judiciary phase. 3 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports The Resilience of Jane Mambo: A 45th Anniversary Review Written by Feridonanidi Nehase Tiigisiti ORIS -- As we mark the 45th anniversary of the release of Jane Mambo, it's worth revisiting Alan Smithee's powerful and thought-provoking film about a young exotic dancer named Jane, who is struggling to navigate the misogynistic social norms of her small coastal town of Tesifa, Oris. Looking back, it's clear that the film was ahead of its time in its portrayal of a strong, complex female character. Lila Patel, the lead actress, gave a standout performance, portraying Jane with raw emotion and vulnerability, and her portrayal of Jane's journey of self-discovery and resilience in the face of adversity still resonates today. The film is also filled with memorable and powerful quotes that have stood the test of time, such as "I dance for myself, not for the pleasure of men" and "I may be a dancer, but that's not all I am. I am a human being with dreams and aspirations, just like anyone else." The film's cinematography, which captured the beauty and harshness of the Orinese coast with stunning visuals, and the evocative score by Yohanisi Gebere, also deserve recognition for their contributions to the film's lasting impact. And the moments of levity and humour, such as the scene in a bar where Jane teaches a man trying to hit on her a dance routine that makes him look like a complete fool, still bring laughter and serve as a reminder of the film's ability to balance heavy themes with lighter moments. It's clear that "Jane Mambo" has stood the test of time, and it remains a must-watch for fans of drama and independent cinema. Its themes and performances remain relevant and impactful, making it a timeless classic. Lila Patel's portrayal of Jane is a significant part of this timelessness. 8 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Coast Guard tracking Anglian intelligence ship off KBI Written by Anidiriwi Weficho AIEA, Bainbridge Islands --The Imperial Orinese Navy monitored an Anglian intelligence ship that sailed near the coast of @Bainbridge Islands last week, the service announced Sunday night. The vessel was identified as the Meridian-class intelligence gathering ship HAMS Rancher, according to a February 4th video released by the Navy. Satellite photos from February 5, reviewed by Roiters News, show the Anglian vessel coming as close as 40 kilometres (ca. 25 miles) within the KBI shore. The Orinese Navy continues to monitor the ship, spokesperson Lt Cdr Nicoli Hega said during a press conference Monday. The Navy could not explain why the Anglians sailed the ship near Aiea, but Hega noted the “precarious timing.” “We haven’t seen any unsafe or unprofessional behaviour, and we expect that the Anglians will operate within the region in accordance with international law,” she said, deflecting additional questions. Ships belonging to foreign militaries can sail through the EOS’s economic exclusive zone, the Navy said in its news release. The service is working with the Council of Defence to track vessel movement and, if necessary, provide additional military presence in an area where a foreign military ship may be sailing. “The Orinese Navy is currently monitoring the Anglian vessel operating in the vicinity of KBI,” Lt Cdr Hega said in her press briefing. “As part of our daily operations, we track all vessels in the Meteorolan area through surface and air assets and joint Entente capabilities.” The Anglian intelligence vessel has sailed near the Meteorolas before, with the EOS tracking HAMS Rancher in October 2022, Roiters News previously reported. At the time, the ship sailed in international waters and was not hazardous to navigation. 8 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Anti-Anglia party holds protest in Suverina Written by Anidiriwi Weficho CHISINAU, @Suverina -- Protesting, which is essentially shouting and waving signs with abandon, was observed in the Suverin capital Chișinău last Sunday. The protesters were demanding the removal of the pro-Anglian Prime Minister Nikolai Dănilă. Some officials from the OCA and @Great Anglia raised concerns about a supposed foreign plot to overthrow the government. Anglian foreign minister Sir Algernon Edgeyton, who met with Dănilă over the weekend in Lyrie, stated that Godstone was alarmed by "some plotting that we've seen coming from abroad". Last week, Dănilă stated that foreigners were planning "the use of people from outside the country for violent actions" in Suverina. Meanwhile, accusations are flying between Anglia and its eastern counterparts over who is really to blame for the alleged protests to topple PM Dănilă. OCA and Anglia officials have raised concerns about an Orinese-backed conspiracy, while O'polis has denied the existence of any such plot. This weekend, EOS representative Tobiya Wayanor commented that: “The Suverin people are trying to take back power. Not by violence as the Anglians did in Suverina several years ago.” Ahead of Sunday's demonstration, Suverin authorities restricted access for citizens from Anglia-unfriendly countries, including those from the Orient. The protests in Chișinău were organized by the anti-Anglian Egalitatea party. The OCA has put Egalitatea leaders on a sanctions list, and Suverin police are targeting them with anti-corruption investigations. Before Sunday's protest, Suverin police also searched the homes of some members of the Egalitatea party and detained them as part of an inquiry into the party's illegal financing of the demonstrations, according to the public prosecutor's office. This demonstration, although peaceful, was significantly larger than the ones held in the autumn. It comes amidst a tense political climate in Suverina following recent warnings of security threats to the country of 111 million, which borders Qubdi and @Tagmatium Rules. And in the midst of all this, Suverin citizens are just trying to get by. For some, that means protesting against their government. For others, it means staying away from political demonstrations altogether. So, while the situation in Suverina may be cause for concern, it's hardly the stuff of international espionage thrillers. In the end, it's just another example of politics as usual in a region that has seen its fair share of tumult and uncertainty. ⁂ (OOC. Unsure what's actually going on in Suverina, but it wouldn't be uncommon to see some protest. The existence of some opposition to the current Anglia-aligned regime in Suverina could help us figure out the post-conflict situation. I'd expect other countries to have their own underground opposition as well.) 9 Link to comment
Orioni
Home | Orioni | Wurld | Business | Tech | Science | Culture | Health | Sports Poll results spell trouble for Orioni's governing coalition Written by Yohana-Ileni Kirichati O'POLIS -- Orioni has been thrown into the political vortex with the release of the latest political opinion poll conducted by Roiters. The survey paints a gloomy picture for the governing coalition, SPO and Blueropa, who have seen their support continue taking a nose-dive. According to the poll, the centre-left SPO has declined to a meagre 33%, down from the 45% support it enjoyed in the last election in December 2019. Meanwhile, its coalition partner, Blueropa, has seen its support slip to 12% from the 15% it garnered in the last poll in December 2022. The poll also revealed a similar drop in support for Pink!, another centre-left party, which has declined to 7%. On the other hand, the centre-right PO&N party has experienced a boost in support, rising to 34% from the 30% it received in the last poll. In these uncertain times, their prescient calls for increased defence spending were well-received by the risk-averse Orinese. The far-right Fronde Verdur party has also seen its fortunes rise, with a 12% increase in support compared to the last election in December 2019. The results of this opinion poll could not have come at a worse time for the ruling coalition. The Rezovi-government has been facing a barrage of criticism from opposition parties and the public alike over their handling of the economy and Anglian crisis. Despite the decline in support for the centre-left parties, political pundits say that a coalition between SPO, Blueropa, and Pink! could still be a possibility, given their similar ideologies. However, such a coalition would need to garner at least 50% of the vote to form a government, which seems unlikely with the current trend. The rise in support for the far-right Fronde Verdur party is a cause for concern for many Orinese citizens, who fear that their extremist views could lead to the erosion of democratic values and human rights. However, some analysts argue that the increase in support for the far-right party could be a reflection of growing frustration among the populace with the traditional political parties. The latest opinion poll has thrown the political landscape in Orioni into disarray, and only time will tell how the parties will respond to the changing fortunes of their support base. The poll results have put the current government on notice, with many calling for immediate action to address the concerns of citizens. However, it remains to be seen whether the government will take these concerns seriously, or whether they will continue to bury their heads in the sand and hope that the problems will magically disappear. One thing is clear, though – the upcoming election in December is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable and closely contested in the country's history. ⁂ (OOC. Still working on the exact percentages for each past poll. This polling spreadsheet is a work-in-progress.) 6 Link to comment
