Northern Voobaha
If I'm trying to draw a up a basic military... would I be wrong with using 1% of population as a base for TOTAL military personnel? After that... what might be a good guideline ratio for combat troops to support personnel in each branch? I'm thinking 25%. Very interested in your thoughts.. especially those with good military knowledge. Link to comment
Akiiryu
At very most a nation will have about 5% of its population in its regular armed forces (this would be a very heavily militarised nation) of which about 1/10 of which would actually be combat troops (the other 9 = support personnel). Northern Voobaha
so... if I have a pop of 50 million, using 1% (not heavily militarized).. that would give me 500,000 total in all branches... using your 1 out of 10... that gives me roughly 50,000 combat ready soldiers/sailors/pilots/marines total across ALL services? Sound about right? (edited for typos) Edited December 9, 2005 by Northern Voobaha (see edit history) Link to comment
Akiiryu
Sure...but remember now you have to train and equip them. Link to comment

Orioni
I'd rather go for 3% and leave the 5% up to evil nations with an enormous economy. And even if you're a large nation, you're nothing without some sort of industry. A hippy colony of 6 Billion won't stop you when you invade them. Link to comment
Adaptus
i preffer a smaller but more well equipt force. so i go for about 2% of my population, so that would leave me with 13,620,000 service people. then 1 in 10 i think if i done my sums right would be 1,362,000 fighting troops, i think. Northern Voobaha
I've drawn up a basic military structure.. if you're ok with a little Godmoding, I've put the current units as either federalized units from the previous Voohabian government (weapons circa 1980), or units from the Northern Voobahian militia that need upgrading (these will be army units)... On that note.. how can you determine is your economy has the funds to support military expansion or upgrades? is it an assumption that you DO have the money? or is there a way to determine a military bedget, since NS doesnt have that option? That way it comes under law and order rather than defence. If you need guns, check my storefront Link to comment

That's pretty neat. The correct number would give met 3.6 million military personel. Divide that in three branches, and you get the idea. Link to comment
