Yet another Oceanic government has failed. The Free Ekainak government has crumbled under its own weight. As a result of the Alliances return to the world stage, the Meteorolan Government has instucted MAID (the Meteorolan Agency for International Development) in coordination with the Ministry of Defence to prevent civil unrest on Ekainak Island.

 

Hurricane Eric had this to say, "Just like when the Baltirow-Woud government failed, we supported the people. Our commitment to the island people of Europa has not dampened despite our differences."

 

This was clearly refering to the complications in Baltirow-Woud resulting from disputes with the SSSS.

 

The Hurricane has pleged almost one billion Degrees in a effort to keep peace in the island nations.

MAID (the Meteorolan Agency for International Development) has, in coordination with ASAF (the Allied States Air Force) to airlift food into the major urban centers of Ekainak. This is the most cruial spot to get food, ruirual areas still have last years harvest to consume, but the urban centers rely on trade for food.

 

Food packages are culturally sesitive and avoid religiously banned foods, like Chopped Liver and Eye-of-Newt. (OOC: Sorry, had to break the tension this was starting to sound too much like work!)

 

The first few airlifts have been completed and we hope to have most of the population fed within a weeks time. The Navy will begin distributing food by then.

 

Meteorolan forces are spefifically avaoiding MMRTA Island, as it is well known that this is a political hot spot and Meteorola does not wish for this aid mission to become politically charged.

Meteorola has declared the former currancy of Free Ekainak defunct. Between the lack of international trading of this currency and its apparent worthlessness even to the local communities, we have decided that Meteorolan Degrees will have to serve as the currency for some time. Citezens will be allowed to exchange whatever currency they have (F.E. or other currency) for Meteorolan Degrees- these will be provided at a premium, in an effort to help stir up the economy and to encorage citizens to exchange currency.

 

We have also decided that because of potential problems with rival ethinc groups policing one another (ie Sunni's being policed by Kurds in Iraq) that we will NOT be training military or police forces at this time. Meteorola's armed forces will continue to keep the peace.

 

We will redraw the map of F.E. as well. The country will be divided into 8 states. We will have elections at the state level, once stability is established. Universal Sufferage will be granted to all citizens over the age of 17. We see the future of F.E. being tied closely to that of Meteorola.

This is Reigny Day, reporting live from the glass enclosed nerve center of MNN in Stratus, with the latest election news.

 

With the first national election since the annexation of Ekainak less than a week away, Hurricane Eric's re-election bid is in jeopardy. Splinter groups have taken much of the wind out of the sails of the once popular Hurricane.

 

Opposition parties claim that the Hurricane was too ambitious when he annexed Ekainak so soon after receiving large numbers of refugees from Baltirow-Woud. "This drain on our resources is overly taxing the tax-payer and it is just wrong," said TS (Tropical Storm) Barry Waters.

 

Further destabilizing Hurricane Eric is a growing separatist movement in Ekainak. The Free Ekainak Now (FEN) movement is demanding more autonomy. Flags of the old Free-Ekainak Republic are a frequent site in the newly renamed cities that once made up that republic.

 

A much weaker independence movement has taken root among the refugees of Baltirow-Woud. Demanding all three of the Western Weathered Isles, which they call the Baltirow Islands, their numbers are not nearly as threatening to Meteorola.

 

FEN has threatened the use of violence if their demands are not met, however there have been no reports of any such actions.

Hurricane Eric paced back and forth where the Council of the Weathered Isles had just met. There had to be a way to preserve the alliance without splitting into four independent states.

 

A knock came at the door to the large chamber, and it echoed throughout.

Just hours ago I was reporting from the newly integraded city of Convergence into Greater Meteorola. I now am reporting from a war zone. A full scale battle broke out near new Meteorolan military instalations near town and angry supports of FEN, the movement to liberate Ekainak.

 

The Hurricane has order swift retalation and has imposed a curfew on all of Ekainak, though it seems unlikely that Meteorolan forces will be able to enforce this....

Holy Imperial Press Statement

 

The Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium, once an ally of the former Ekainak, deplores what is basically the military occupation of the island. It is obvious that the Ekainakos overthrew the Communistic Republic that once ruled the nation, and before any government could be set up, Meteorolan forces moved in quickly. Taking full advantage of the turmoil caused by the revolution of Ekainakos, which was done to make the nation more free and fair, Meteorolan forces desended into the nascent, democratic Republic of Ekainak and seized the island in the name of "democracy".

 

We never supported the setting up of a Meteorolan regime on the island, and reject the claims of "free and fair" elections for the eight states on the island. If the Allied States were truely in favour of democracy, they would let the Ekainakos rule their own nation, to their own ends.

 

To this extent, the GHET recognises the actions of the Free Ekainak Now (FEN) as actions of a legitimate Resistance organisation, in a similar vein to the one that acted against Tagmatine occupation in Sevrun, fighting for freedom against an occupying, powerful state. This doesn't mean that Tagmatium condones attacks upon civilians, but does support attacks upon any military bases, convoys and personnel, as well as any targets that weaken the occupying forces of the Allied States. The FEN is also recognised as the legitimate government of Ekainak island.

 

Meteorola appears, in the eyes of the GHET, to be attempting to set up a hegemony of all of the islands around the Weathered Sea and Sea of Kings. This is unacceptable, as this will dominate trade between Northern Europa and the rest of the region.

 

To this end, Tagmatium supports the actions of the FEN, and may even consider sending support to the Ekainak resistance movement. Violens Isamust is recognised as the true Premier of the Ekainak people, rather than militarist regime set to dominate the Ekainkos people. The GHET also opens its doors, as it were, to any political refugees feeling from the Meteorolan forces.

The Holy Confederacy of Vanarambaion condemns to statement of Tagmatium as contrary to peaceful relations in the region. Earlier today, a high-ranking official in the Vanarambaion High Command was quoted as saying:

 

"The move by the Tagmatium Government is the making of a huge rift between that nation and the mainstream nations of Europa. By bowing to and supporting terrorists, Tagmatium has lowered themselves to the level of the child-killers. If it were up to me, we'd invade them tomorrow."

 

The official made these statements on condition of anonymity. More information coming when we receive word.

The Prince, Baronic Council and People of the Sublime Principate of Akiiryu condemns the statement of support for the FEN terrorist organised issued today by the government of the government of Tagamatium. This act is indicative of the growing hypocrasy of the Tagamatine government, who on the one hand will condemn the CLF as a terrorist force, and use its military assets against said group while condoning, indeed supporting, the acts of terrorism of the FEN.

 

It is not hard to discover the motivations behind the Tagamatine government's support for the FEN terrorists, indeed the Tagamatine government has been quite open about them. Despite claiming to support the FEN terrorists because the Tagamatine government believes it to be the legitimate government of the Ekainkos people, the Tagamantine government supports these criminals because it objects to Meterola's control of the islands of the North Europan Sea. Simply put, the Tagamatine government is willing to cynically support a terrorist organisation that murders unarmed Meteo-Ekainkian men, women and children because it suits its geo-political objectives.

 

As of this moment Tagamatium has be placed on the Sublime Principate of Akiiryu's list of nations who support terrorism. As a result all trade and diplomatic relations with this state have been suspended until further notice.

The GHET rejects the opinion of the unamed Vanarambion politician as childish, sensationalist and simplistic. Tagmatium mourns the day that a supposedly civilised nation can have such a man in high office. It is also another example of the Vanarambaion policy that whatever is best for Vanarambaion is best for Europa.

 

The SPA, however, is another matter. We reject the idea that the FEN is a terrorist organisation. It is a group of people acting against a government that has occupied a once-independent nation, with no invitation to do so. The acts of this group are the voice of the people of the former-Ekainak, who wish to govern their nation in their own name, rather than have it governed for them by the Allied States.

 

There have been crowds outside the Meteorolan embassy since the take-over. These crowds have in no-way been instigated by the Holy Empire or any of its agencies or organisatons. Rather, they are gatherings of Ekainakos citizens and like-minded people, protesting against military occupation of their homeland. Here is a quote which examplifies the actions of the Allied States:

The actions of the H.I.N are in no-way contradictory to the actions of the GHET over Ekainak. The FEN are trying to rid their nation of a foreign occupier and re-instate independence and democracy, whilst the actions of the CLF are to over throw a legitimately elected government through violent military action. The CLF have even stooped to the low of using Ballistic missiles to strike a blow against the ordinary citizens of the Federation of Adaptus, something that the FEN have not yet sunk to. The FEN forces are moving against purely justifiable military targets, in order to free themselves of the shackles of the Allied States.

 

The GHET is also to freeze all trade and diplomatic activities with the SPA.
