Tamurin
---- Voice of the Republic ---- Â After the failure of the project called "Council of Nations", a project of President Hartman, isolationists from the ruling socialists and conservatives have won a major victory: Â Martin Sumner (47), a political advisor of former President Granger with no party affiliations, has been declared Vice-President of the United Republic of Tamurin. Despite his major victory with more than 60% of all votes, President Hartman had to make concessions to the growing number of isolationists within the ruling parties. Â "We won't reduce our international business." he said. Â Martin Sumner answered, when asked for his political agenda: "I'm a great supporter of the treaty with the Social Alliance of Mongol-Swedes and the non-aggression pact with Ide Jima. But these old alliances like the CPA, the EPA and the PoA are something from the past. We cannot allow that Europa is divided into blocks and that all nations go to war for something only two nations have to sort out. We should promote economic alliances like the almost-forgotten E.C.A. and get rid of the military ones." Â Again, Field Marshall von Steinburg rejected to leave the military and become the minister of defense. Â "I am with my troops." he said. "Chief of Staff is my position and this is what I want to do." Link to comment
Tamurin
---- Voice of the Republic ----  Martin Sumner super-minister: Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs  Due to the powerful isolationist movement within the government, President Hartman appointed Vice-President Martin Sumner for minister of foreign affairs.  Vice-President Sumner: "Now the people of Tamurin will finally have a minister of foreign affairs who speaks! It is not the duty of the President to make every decision in foreign affairs. This behavior our president learned during the civil war, will end now. The President will deal with more internal matters - we have enough of them."  "We will honor all treaties signed in the past. But we will now concentrate more on national interests when dealing with other nations.  I will concentrate on our cooperations with individual nations. Our treaties with the Social-Alliance of Mongol-Swedes and Ide Jima are a raw model for the future." Link to comment
Senator Gaius
To President Hartman, From Supreme Commander Ling Cao  It is unfortunate that recent events have led to such a dramatic change in your government and your foreign policy, but always remember that most of the nations present signed the treaty, and that includes Karthenia.  Link to comment

Vanarambaion
To: President Hartman, Tamurin From: Emperor Tinsman, Vanarambaion Re: A personal note  **Super-Secret Coding**  I have enclosed a copy of our draft for the Council of Nations we talked about at the Mithril Conference. Let me know of any thoughts you had. I apologize that this message has to be coded, but I understand that your new Vice President would not be very conducive to this idea. I send it to you, and you may decide who is to see it. Feel free to comment on it freely - it is only a draft, after all.  TREATY OF THE COUNCIL OF NATIONS Thule ? 06 June, 2005 The Parties to this Treaty reaffirm their faith in their desire to live in peace with all peoples and all governments. They will seek to eliminate conflict in their international economic policies and will encourage economic collaboration between any or all of them. Article 4 The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened. Article 5 The Parties agree that in the event of an armed attack, each of the Parties, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defense, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the region. Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security . Article 6 For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack: on the territory of any of the Parties home territories, on the foreign colonies and territories of Orioni, on the foreign colonies and territories of Vanarambaion; on the foreign colonies and territories of Europtima; on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europa. Article 8 Each Party declares that none of the international engagements now in force between it and any other of the Parties or any third State is in conflict with the provisions of this Treaty, and undertakes not to enter into any international engagement in conflict with this Treaty. Tamurin
TO: Emperor Tinsman, Vanarambaion FROM: President Hartman RE: A personal message  ** Private encoding **  Thank you for your message. You are quite right about my new vice-president. He's the product of the recent events of the last year in my country. A new powerful isolationist movement has gained support and personel everywhere...without the war you'd face now a President Sumner. Sometimes I feel very isolated and cut-off in my office...  Well, I've read your treaty and it's a marvellous piece of work. Its implementation would be a great achievement.  My original idea was to set up a council in which members of all political and military blocks could talk and discuss their problems. Your proposition is a huge step beyond that. I'd be glad to sign it, but I fear that most european nations won't. And then I would have a very weak stand against the isolationists in my country.  Perhaps it would be better to set up an inofficial council that could implement your draft later when it proved worthy. But I'd definitely publish your draft or at least store it.  Hartman, President of the United Republic of Tamurin Link to comment
Tamurin
--- Voice of the Republic ---  New Isolationist party wins local elections in East-Ormpetarr and North Tamurin  The new isolationist party led by Vice-President Sumner, that formed out of politicians from all parties, has won the local elections in East-Ormpetarr and North Tamurin. In borth regions, the party has the absolute majority and the new governor will be from their party.  The conservatives and socialists suffered great losses. All other parties (liberals, communists and nationalists) are out of the parliament.  This means that the isolationists have now a powerful voice within the nation. The alliance in the national parliament between conservatives and socialists has become fragile, since many politicians have formed a new isolationist fraction. If a couple more politicians change their allegiance, President Hartman will loose his coalition.  Meanwhile, Vice-President Sumner has indicated that he suggests new elections for the parliament and the president, since such instability could cause nationwide problems. Vanarambaion
The Holy Emperor of Vanarambaion stepped onto the podium. Around the world, those turned to VBS saw him step up in real time (with 7 second delay for editing purposes ). Turning to face the cameras, he began to speak. Â "Ladies and gentlemen of the world, we come to a trying time in our world. With nation-less militaries, collapsing governments, rogue states, and restrictive alliances, the people of Europa need a voice. A voice greater and more worldly than the CPA or the EPA. A voice stronger than a simple defense alliance with a neighbor. In this era of world conflict, every nation in the world is entitled to a voice that will reach every other nation in the world. That is why I have come here to introduce to the world the Council of Nations. It is a treaty that has been signed between the countries of Vanarambaion and Tamurin, and I now ask every other nation to sign it in the name of peace and maintenance of the status quo." Â With that, the screen flickered for a few seconds, and returned to the regularly scheduled programming. Link to comment

Mongol-Swedes
(A Transmission from the Tribal Tribunal, Courtesy of the Mongol-Swede National Broadcasting Company, or MSNBC) Â We of the Tribal Tribunal of the Confederation of the Socialist Tribelands of Europa have, for the past two decades, been champions of peace in the provinces of Europa, and, along with the people of Tamurin, sought to ease the tensions between the growing 'Big Three' defense treaties, that is, the CPA, the EPA, and the POA. And with that, we are honoured to announce that the Tribelands will sign the Council of Nations treaty, in accordance with the ratification of the recently established Legislature of Tribal Elders. Â We also offer to the nations of Europa that an official meeting place be established here in the Tribelands, as a sign of our Peoples' commitment to perpetuating the peace and unity that the people of Europa richly deserve in these troubling times. Tamurin
---- Voice of the Republic ---- Â New elections! Parliament dissolved! Â The isolationist movement gained six additional seats in the parliament in the last week due to defectors from the socialists and the conservatives. They held the absolute majority in the parliament. Â Surprisingly quick, President Hartman dissolved the parliament today and fired Vice-President Sumner. Hartman set a date for parliament elections: July, 31st. Â "I cannot lead a government that lacks the support of the parliament and I won't be quiet and see, how an irresponsible movement led by my own Vice-President destroys what we've fought for in the Civil War. The people of Tamurin shall now decide if this movement, which was not originally elected into the national parliament, shall govern the United Republic of Tamurin." President Hartman said. Â "Finally the President made the right decision", Ex-Vice-President Sumner said. "I will run for the isolationist party in this election. The old ways of the Republic have brought us death and destruction. It is time to try something new." Â Polls show, that the isolationist movement can get up to 50% of the votes. The conservatives can rally 25 %, the socialists 15 % and the liberals 5 %. All other parties lie below the 5 % - barrier. Â If the isolationists win, the President would face an opposing parliament. This would lead to many problems. Link to comment

Vanarambaion
The Holy Emperor threw down his report as he paced around the room. "This has gone on long enough!" He yelled, displaying the fiery temper that had allowed him to run his country with an iron fist since his coronation. No one dared stand up to the Marshal when he was angry.  Snatching the telephone off it's cradle, he barked into the phone, "Get me Colonel Li'akan, NOW!" A few seconds later, the red-faced man said in a very low voice, almost a growl, "I want you in my office, pronto." He slammed down the phone and marched back to his chair.  Several minutes later, the concerned colonel walked gingerly into the room and saluted. The Holy Emperor started immediately, "Take a seat. Have you read the reports?" Without waiting for a response, he slid the list of numbers across the table toward the leader of the Shadowcorps. "If this mangy mongrel gets into office, we're going to see one ally become quite useless. Bloody isolationists."  "What we need, sir, is a several pronged attack. Militarily, diplomatically, and most importantly, foreignly, this has to be an outstanding week and a half for the current President."  "What do you propose, Colonel?" The Marshal was beginning to calm down, now that concrete action was underway.  "Well sir, we need an agreement with a foreign power that would benefit the average Tamurin citizen. Perhaps an untimely terrorist attack would also show them that they cannot stay disconnected from the world. And...hmmm...maybe a visit from a powerful foreign head of state..." He looked at the Marshal knowingly.  The 6'6" Holy Emperor stretched his long legs out in the chair and thought about it. "What are my approval ratings in Tamurin? If they're not good, it wouldn't be a great idea to go. If they're very high, then perhaps a terrorist attack at some place that I'm scheduled to be would be appropriate. If they're average. Well, I'll just go. Get me those numbers." The Colonel saluted, and quickly left the office. The Marshal called his secretary in to transcribe a telegram.  ________________________________  ***Super Highly Encoded*** To: President Tamurin FOR YOUR EYES ONLY From: Holy Emperor and Marshal of the Armies Tinsman  It has come to our attention that your grasp on the presidency is not what it could be. I would like to help in any way I can. After talking to some advisors, I would like to suggest a treaty between our two countries lowering (uranium, oil, whatever it is that's the main export from Vanarambaion to Tamurin, I can't remember) prices and tariffs. I would also like to come to Tamurin on a visit. No campaigning, just a simple presence and touring the country so that we can talk about the specifics of the treaty. Let me know your thoughts on this proposal.   Link to comment
Tamurin
*** Presidential code enabled ***  TO: Holy Emperor and Marshal of the Armies Tinsman FROM: President Hartman  The balance of power may indeed shift in my country. It is ridiculous - you win a war for your people and then they elect another...well, it happened to Churchill and who am I to compare myself with him?  Luckily, the isolationists have only a very slim advantage in the polls over the conservative-socialist-alliance. Both parties agreed to continue the great coalition if they succeed.  A visit of you in Tamurin could be the deciding event. If the people can see that we're an important part of this world and we can benefit from strong friendships with other nations, it might be enough to defeat the isolationists.  Perhaps, a big treaty of economic and military cooperation between our countries might be enough - let's say, our Navies and Air Forces would cooperate in joined training operations, Vanarambaion would open its IT market for tamurinian corporations (no tariffs) and Tamurin would open its arms and mashines market for vanarambaion corporations (no tariffs)....that could be enough to make a victory of my coalition possible.   I'm very grateful for your help and I'll be happy to personally show you around in our beautiful country.   Regards, Hartman President of the United Republic of Tamurin Link to comment
Vanarambaion
***Alpha One Code Enabled***  To: President Hartman From: Emperor Tinsman  Consider it done. Losing Tamurin to the halls of mediocrity is not an option we care to discuss at this time. The treaty arrangement sounds more than acceptable at this point. Please forward an itinerary as soon as you have it completed. We will draw up the paperwork for the treaty and forward it to you in advance of the talks for your comments.  ____________________  Vanarambaion Evening News Team (OOC: VENT )  Emperor Tinsman announced today that he will be spending some time in Tamurin touring the country and possibly coming to some sort of agreement with Tamurin over the tariff questions that have impeded relations in the past. "Tamurin is a crucial member of the international community, and it is time that we came to the table with no outside agendas to discuss what's best for our countries in the long run," said the Holy Emperor in a late press release this afternoon. "We hope that the Tamurins are as ready to come to an agreement as we are." In a rare show of solidarity with the Emperor, Sean McGaghey, Prime Minister of Vanarambaion stated, "I think it's about time we put aside our differences and worked together, not just with Tamurin, but with other nations as well." Tamurin is seen by some to be an odd choice for a visit, considering the upheaval following last week's dissolution of Parliament by President Hartman, and the impending election next week. Tamurin
---- Voice of the Republic ----  Emperor of Vanarambaion visiting the country  Emperor Tinsman of Vanarambaion will visit Tamurin soon. This was announced by the presidential office of Tamurin and Vanarambaion news agencies. Apparently, the Emperor and the President will sign an arrangement concerning tariffs and economical cooperation.  "Vanarambaion is a major power of Europa and no country can succeed in this region without strong ties to the major powers. Our relations with Vanarambaion have been more or less strictly on a military basis. Now it is time to expand these relations." President Hartman said.  Isolationist leader Martin Sumner opposes this visit. "This is clearly an election-campaign-trick of the government. They try to show our people "benefits" of international relations. Vanarambaion has been involved in every major crisis in Europa. Do we really want to bond ourselves to a nation with such a history of war and armed conflicts?"  New polls didn't show any conclusive reaction of the voters to these news. Link to comment
Tamurin
--- Voice of the Republic --- Â The visit of the Emperor of Vanarambaion and the stronger economic ties between Tamurin and Vanarambaion seem to have tipped the polls in favor of the government parties. Vanarambaion
"The coming of the Emperor was something the Tamurins could not have prepared for," thought Colonel Li'akan, who was taking a few days off to travel Tamurin with the Holy Emperor. Â The Holy Emperor had arrived several days before then with a ton of cash, and just started spending like crazy. He could be seen personally going into small shops all over the town, talking with the shop owners and buying different things. In the evenings, the Vanarambaion Evening News Team would broadcast video (no audio though) of the negotiations with the Tamurin President and his staff. He was really going all-out on this, and he hoped the voters of Tamurin were getting the idea. Link to comment
Tamurin
New Parliament in Tamurin; Small fractions, difficult majority  This is the result of the election from july, 31st:  Isolationists: 38.5 % Conservatives: 27 % Socialists: 19.5 % Liberals: 5.5 % Nationalists: 4.5 % Communists: 3.5 % Others: 1.5 %   The political results: The isolationist movement collapsed in the last week before the election. Public support dropped massively when the Holy Emperor of Vanarambaion showed how important the international involvement of Tamurin was.  On the other hand, the old coalition of conservatives and socialists lost its majority. Only 46.5 % are not enough for a new coalition.  The third development, a surprise for everybody, is the rising of several small parties, the liberals, the nationalists and the communists.  President Hartman will have a hard stand in the future. The socialists said, that they would not cooperate with nationalists or liberals, but were interested in a cooperation with the communists. The conservatives said, that they would never work with communists, but would appreciate a coalition with the liberals. Nationalists and Isolationists are bonding, but just have 43 % of all seats in the parliament...  So, President Hartman will have a fractured parliament to work with. This could block many of his projects for the country. This will create many problems.  But he said: "The isolationists didn't win and their support is still dropping. This is the most important result." Link to comment
