  1. Thanks! It's been a bit tainted by the fact I'm getting over the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had (hence my lack of recent activity - sorry!)
  2. The Ide Jiman Broadcasting Corporation: ‘The Voice of Serekan’ Imperial Address Concerning Recent Diplomatic Developments: In a move unprecedented in recent years, His Majesty Artakai I this morning gave a public address before the Imperial Palace in Victory Square, Serekan. In a 30-minute long speech, His Majesty pronounced a ‘new era’ for the Ide Jiman Empire. The address marked a rare example of what appeared to be a criticism of the Central Directorate. Lambasting the isolationist policies pursued by the Central Directorate for the past two decades, the Emperor stated that: ‘engagement with foreign powers provides a golden opportunity for the development of our nation, an opportunity that has been willfully ignored by elements of the Government for far too long… this can only be considered an act of utmost recklessness. The era of re-construction, and of recovery from the ravages of the illegal regime is at an end, and it is now that the Empire must move forwards, for the benefit of every citizen of this land’. The Emperor subsequently confirmed in his speech that an agreement had been reached for an exchange of embassies with Tagmatium. Shunroku Matsura, a retired Admiral and the heir apparent to the Barony of Shinuur, has been announced as the emperor’s representative to the Greater Holy Empire. The Emperor concluded his address by confirming that further efforts towards establishing constructive foreign relationships are expected to follow shortly. Immediately after the Emperor’s address, Han Ro-Ha, the Interior Affairs correspondent for IJBC, spoke to Colonel Ru-Tze Won, an attaché to General Sincho. Colonel Won furiously dismissed the notion that the Emperor’s address heralded a cooling of relations between the Imperial Family and the Military, stating that: ‘The military is the shield of the Ide Jiman people, and a devoted servant of the Emperor, any suggestion to the contrary is tantamount to treason’. Colonel Won refused to offer any comment concerning the absence of several key members of the Central Directorate during the Emperor’s address. Recent appointees General Sincho (Head Spokesman) and General Yeong (Foreign Affairs) were both known to be present at the palace during the address, however, several further members of the Directorate were notable by their absence from the capital this morning. The Central Directorate Decries Terrorist Incident in Altanserleg: The Central Government has elected unanimously to deploy troops to the streets of Altanserleg, following an attempted assault on the city’s main banking institution two days ago. Releasing further details of the incident during a televised press conference, the City Prefect stated: ‘On Wednesday morning, security forces acting on information provided by military intelligence located and neutralized a viable car bomb, parked feet away from the main entrance to the regional headquarters of Darhan Investment Banking Group. Through the diligent efforts of the security forces there was no loss of life… A terrorist organization, termed the SPLF, are believed to be the perpetrators… The intentions of the failed attackers remain unclear; however it is understood the SPLF are proponents of false communist ideology. Following an appeal to Serekan[Rob1] , forces of the 152nd Light Infantry Brigade were immediately re-deployed from Kherbayan… The military is now working in full conjunction with local law enforcement to orchestrate a full sweep of the city, and surrounding regions. Intelligence services have already identified the terrorist ringleaders, and are acting as we speak. Further updates are expected to follow shortly…’ The Southern People’s Liberation Front (SPLF) is a relatively unknown quantity, thought to have been formed by a coalition of low-level bureaucrats associated with the former regime. SPLF activity to date has been limited to a handful of relatively poor areas in the outskirts of the port cities of the southern coast. This week’s developments indicate a higher degree of ambition, both geographically and in terms of audacity. IJBC understands that several community leaders have already questioned the need for the military counter-operation as being heavy-handed, however, no response has yet been offered by the Government. Obituaries: Professor Baasu Kagenari, Head of Antiquities at the University of Xian has passed away suddenly at the age of 67. Kagenari, considered to be one of the major figures in the field of Ancient Ide Jiman History, passed in suspicious circumstances whilst leading an excavation in remote countryside to the west of Altanserleg. A known figurehead in the newly emerged field of Ancient Ide Jiman History, the Professor served previously as an advisor on cultural affairs to the Emperor in the immediate aftermath of the restoration, before returning to an Academic Career in 2005.
  3. In the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Serekan… Serving as the equivalent Foreign Minister for a nation that had taken great pains to distance itself from any form of overseas influence over the past 30 years might sound to many to be an easy job. General Roe Chon-Yeong, however, now found himself between a rock and a hard place. The Emperor had only recently announced an era of openness and engagement with foreign powers. Whilst nobody in the government would dare to defy the wishes of the Emperor, the relative newcomer Chon-Yeong now found himself to be the human face of a campaign that was anathema to the old guard that continued to populate the ranks of the Ide Jiman Government. The Central Government District of Serekan continued to reverberate with fallout from the recent declaration that embassies would be exchanged with the Greater Holy Empire. The announcement of the Empire’s pending application for membership in the EOS would undoubtedly serve as a smack in the mouth for many of the more conservative elements of the Government, however, the Emperor’s will was unwavering, and the General knew exactly on which of the side of the potential divide to stand. The news that the application for membership had been placed before the Member States of the EOS reached Serekan in the closing stages of an already fraught day… “General!” the Aide stormed into the General’s office without stopping to knock, “the Chair of the EOS has tabled our application for membership!” Taken aback by the unexpected development, the General paused for a moment, before responding “There can be no delay, we must prepare a further statement to the EOS in support of our application … Emphasize the support we can offer in dealing with the situation in the Bainbridge Islands, and do all you can to reassure our prospective allies of the Emperor’s intentions!” Offering a salute, the Aide stopped short of marching straight out of the room… “The Emperor’s intentions are surely clear, sir?” “The nature of Government for many of the EOS member states differs significantly from our own… whilst you and I may have no doubt that the Emperor’s statements are made in earnest, recent history dictates that we are under an onus to prove that the Empire is capable of engaging with foreign powers in a meaningful and responsible manner… Just forward me the EOS dossier, and I will have the statement ready for imperial assent within an hour…” From: General Roe Chon-Yeong, Nominated Spokesman for Foreign Affairs To: The Member States of the EOS Esteemed Colleagues, Writing on the express wishes of His Imperial Majesty Artakai I, the Ide Jiman Government expresses sincere gratitude to the Chair of the EOS for taking into consideration the Empire of Ide Jima’s membership application. It would be inappropriate to pursue membership of the EOS without first offering some acknowledgement of the differences that have existed between our nations over these past decades. Please be reassured, the Imperial Government is in no doubt that engagement with regional allies represents the most beneficial course of action for all parties. Co-operation must undoubtedly pave the way to a brighter future for all the peoples of the Oriental Littoral. In view of recent history, it is fully appreciated that the burden of proof for the Empire’s application rests wholly on our shoulders. To that end, any further detail required by the EOS in support of the Ide Jiman application will gladly be supplied. Turning to recent developments, you are no doubt aware of the Emperor’s firm commitment towards tackling the recent upshot in terrorist activity in the Bainbridge Islands. The task force previously dispatched by the Emperor is nearing the Azure Sea, and further preparations are underway. The Emperor has made clear that, within the confines of this crisis, military support must be offered to neutral shipping, regardless of our membership status within the EOS. Yours in Friendship, General Roe Chon-Yeong Nominated Spokesman for Foreign Affairs
  4. To: the Agios Basilikon Kounsistorion of the Megas Agios Basileia ton Arhomanion From: General Roe Chon-Yong, Nominated Spokesman for External Affairs, under the express direction of His Majesty Artakai I Your Excellence, The Emperor expresses heartfelt gratitude at the recent communique received from the Tagmatine Government. The proposal for re-establishment of diplomatic ties with the Greater Holy Empire has been upheld unanimously by the Ide Jiman Government. The history of our nations has, for better or worse, been a formative theme in Eurth’s history, and the Emperor wholeheartedly welcomes the opportunity to open a new chapter in the shared story of our great and ancient nations. His Imperial Majesty Artakai I has himself issued a directive for an embassy to be made available for the Greater Holy Empire, effective immediately, within the Central Government District of Serekan. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure that an Ide Jiman embassy is available to dispatch to the Greater Holy Empire at the earliest opportunity. With Sincerest Respects, General Roe Chon-Yong, Nominated Spokesman for External Affairs
  5. The Ide Jiman Broadcasting Corporation: ‘The Voice of Serekan’ Growing Concern at the Situation in the Southern Approaches! Following an increasing volume of reports concerning terrorist activity in the Azure Sea and the Northern Meteorolas, the Central Military Directorate has released a public statement, several days after an emergency meeting of Military Affairs Committee of the Directorate was convened. Speaking exclusively to IJBC staff this morning, General Nae Sincho, General of the Paratroopers for the Northern Region and nominated spokesman for the Central Directorate delivered the following statement: “As you are all no doubt aware, recent months have seen an upsurge in piracy in the Southern Approaches. The southern ports of our nation are reliant on the shipping lanes that pass through these waters… The repeated attacks on the very ships that represent the livelihood of so many Ide Jiman people are an act of war, and nothing less. Following personal consultation with his excellence Emperor Artakai I, it is fully apparent that the time for action is upon us! The Second Battlegroup of the Southern Fleet, previously on routine patrol in international waters off the 30th parallel has been re-directed to the Azure Sea in order to protect shipping in that region. In addition a second task force is being readied for action in Kharyagat as I speak, with a view to maintaining a sustained and meaningful offensive against the enemies of Ide Jima… Furthermore, the Emperor has made expressly clear to me his hope that imperial forces will work in full conjunction with other regional powers to crush this threat.” When approached shortly after the conference Marine General Sobong-Chol, an attaché to the central directorate commented that Sincho’s remarks may only indicate the ‘tip of the iceberg’ insofar as the proposed course of action was concerned, adding that the Emperor was ‘not at all pleased’ with the situation, but declined to comment further. The End of an Era: It is with regret that IJBC must report the passing of Baron Hae Chon’Rok of Wonchaek. Baron Chon’Rok, widely considered a hero in the eyes of the Ide Jiman people, passed away peacefully at the age of 96. The last surviving uncle of his excellence, Emperor Artakai I, the Baron represented the final vestige of the pre-communist royalty. During the closing stages the Long War, the Baron directed the successful evacuation of the surviving members of the royal family from Serekan, repulsing repeated assaults by communist forces with only a limited number of troops. Following this, it is reported that he left the city on the last vessel after the evacuation of most of his army, despite heavy shelling from the enemy. Following a period in exile, the Baron maintained a low profile in public affairs, but was known to act as a close adviser to the emperor following his accession. The Emperor has spoken previously of Hae Chon’Rok’s influence in his efforts to abandon isolationist policies, and has declared a fortnight of commemoration in both Serekan and Wonchaek in his honor. The Baron is survived by his son and three daughters. The Realization of a Dream: Following a ceremony on Tuesday Evening attended by her excellence Empress Cirina, the high speed rail link between Serekan and Altanserleg was declared open. The opening of the direct high speed route to both passenger and freight traffic represents a drastic improvement on previous journey times, decreasing journey times between the two cities by up to four hours. Previous journeys between the two cities required a lengthy and circuitous route trailing the coast. The project remains underway as the Dalshir-Altanserleg line, which traverses some of the most inhospitable terrain on Eurth, is currently undergoing a major upgrade. In addition, Empress Cirina confirmed at the ceremony that a further upgrade connecting the high speed network to Darhan and Taigal has now received the approval of both the Emperor and the Central Directorate, and works are expected to commence shortly.
  6. Bump! I've updated the first entry - please ignore the others for now!
  7. Sorry for the length of time it's taken me to reply, I've had a bit of a hectic few weeks. I've probably RP'd my fair share of expansions/civil wars in the past. I'll have a look at the map, and come up with some thoughts - I will aim to start a thread this afternoon
  8. I'd love to start a new militaryish RP. I'm more or less up for any kind of scenario, I was thinking of a kind of oil exploration-gone-wrong thing (typically unimaginative, I know) Any thoughts? (Or better ideas?)
  9. The Communist Regime had achieved victory in the Long War by the early 1950s, but paid the price. By this point, the economy of Ide Jima is shattered completely, despite the successive economic improvement programmes, the level of production in Ide Jima is still only just beginning to catch up with pre war levels. With nearly all government resources being poured into heavy industry in a bid to catch foreign rivals, the military has been left neglected. Much of the airforce remains based around piston engined fighters, and the navy operates no aircraft carriers, and very few submarines (of questionable status), and a few obsolete frigates and gunboats. The pride of the Navy, the Battleship Proletariat lays rotting in Serekan harbour. A relatively large army remains, consisting of several hundred thousand, but it is severely under supported and almost totally incapable of deploying outside Ide Jiman borders. Assault capability rests upon a tiny naval infantry corps, consisting of no more than 2,000 troops. Despite this, the government follows the traditional Ide Jiman stance of hostility to foreign nations, especially those that had opposed the Communist regime during the Long War. By 1970, the Ide Jiman nation is beginning to gather speed economically, but still lags far behind others. Despite economic shortcomings, the regime under the ruthless command of War hero Marshall Ryuzen, remains desperate to export its ideals at any available opportunity. Ironically, at the same time, the government is desperate to make new friends, as the economy requires foreign markets - as it is still unable to process many of the primary resources produced. For the regime, any chance to get attention will do...
  10. I felt the earthquake too! It was pretty neat...
  11. At this period, my country is still ruled by a supposedly Communist regime. The main focus of the communists in power until the 60s/70s has been improving the economy, leaving the military slightly delapidated - to 1950s standards. Despite this, it is likely to remain incredibly hostile to foreign nations. Of course, being miles from the action won't make it easy, but I guess I could send a couple of ships or something.
  12. No problem, once I know others are ok with that, I'll get my post up there
  13. I don't think it was Van's, it's the really little neutral one next to the island Adaptus owns on that map
  14. That's cool, I'll begin drafting something. Is it ok with you guys if the island involved in my fiendish plot is the one that looks like 0.2 on this map: http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r137/We...lsy-825-web.png (The Neutral One between Haru and Deltannia) Sorry if I'm rushing people, if anyone does have problems with my plan just shout me. It's just a plan after all.
  15. I have an idea - to save removing posts and such. What if someone does something to make the meeting and stuff irrelevant. i.e. If I were to start landing substantial military forces in neutral territory near to the area of oil. The nature of my government would allow for rash decision making of this kind. Due to this, the need for action becomes somewhat more urgent, and the meeting is cancelled. Diplomatically this could be used to split Europa into two camps (I'd rather everyone didn't team up on me ) For the sake of the RP, is it safe to assume I am operating out of the territories I laid claim to on the map thread?
  16. When the Update comes, please can I be re- added but on different plots: 36, 37, 38, 39
  17. Hi Byzantine Nova, long time no see Not bad thanks O, and yourself?

    Black Dawn!

The Ide Jiman War Pavillion, Serekan... 'What do you make of that, then?' The Emperor adressed his Generals, the Adapton news report had finished running on the screens next to them. It didn't take a genius to figure out that the Emperor was annoyed. 5 years of surveying the Byzantine Sea had built up to nothing, and internal reserves in Taishan were so low they were running at a loss. 'The question is your highness, how are we to lay our hands on this oil?' Air Marshall Shan spoke up. 'Our military is heavily reliant on fossil fuel - no, totally - short of a few of the big ships in the Navy and the infantry marching. Our civillian power structure is heavily reliant on nuclear power - notably the 16 plants that dot the country, so that is not so much of a concern'. 'What do you propose?' The Emperor was puzzled. 'Sir, it would be stupid for us to go in all guns blazing here, I suggest a diplomatic approach'. 'The fate of the nation hangs in the balance and you are suggesting a diplomatic approach?' 'For the time being your highness, after we have made good friends with someone in the region we can start to think about sending in military force. The inability of the northern nations to control their greed means that it will not be long before the battle lines are drawn.' 'That is all well and good, but what if your conflict never comes to pass?' 'Then we can make sure it does. I will have the Admiralty ready SSN-71, and dispatch it to the Storm Sea. It can hide in deep water for a long period, if the situation shows signs of calming down - then we plug a few torpedo holes in the hull of a ship from a nation of your choosing. We keep silent on the diplomatic front for now, to them up north it would be good for us to paint the image that we don't care about the oil.' 'Very well General, you have convinced me. I will place the Admiralty in charge of the proposed operation.' Khamseen Naval Base... Within an hour the SSN-71, a state of the art Nuclear hunter killer, launched only a year previously began to get ready to put to sea. On board were 44 Type 98 High Explosive torpedoes, capable of breaking the back of the largest ship with deadly accuracy over a reasonable range. In addition, 8 short range SLBMs were carried in vertical tubes the nuclear reactor was capable of moving the vessel at 32 knots underwater. By the following morning the pride of the Ide Jiman navy would be at sea...
  21. Let's just keep it simple, try out a 10 year jump with Adaptus's Oil RP idea. If it fails, let's just file it away somewhere. We have to do something to increase forum activity - and this would be far better than nothing.
