Good morning, all you fine forum folk. After some separate discussions with @Poja, I'm having another go at enabling the hanging indent. From the looks of it, judging by the same text in this post, I'd say it works as expected. At least for now. What is a hanging indent? That's where the first sentence of a text paragraph is slightly indented to the right. How does this work? I've added a button to do this. It works with CSS, and I'm adding the markup to work across forum themes. It adds a line of code to your text that looks like this: <p class="text-indent"> Your text indent starts with this paragraph. </p> The text-indent…

Hello crew. @Adaptus @Gallambria @Iverica @Sunset Sea Islands @Tagmatium Rules @Variota Earlier today on Discord, there was some discussion about writing quality and mentoring new members. This seems to be a regularly recurring topic of discussion. I may have found a solution which I'd like to share here first for discussion by RP mentors. ℹ️ A note on transparency. Once we are all satisfied with the proposal, this discussion will be moved to the public help area and become visible to the community. 1. Entrance level: what's the difference? Right now, anyone who registers can join the RP forums. I am proposing that we have two tiers of R…

Invision Community has come a long way over the past five years. We've added many new features and invigorated the front-end user experience to keep it current and in-line with modern interfaces. One area that has remained largely the same is the Admin Control Panel. When we released Invision Community 4.0 back in 2014, the Admin Control Panel was updated but has stayed relatively dormant since. But that's all about to change with the upcoming release of Invision Community 4.5! The Admin Control Panel in 4.5 has received a substantial update, resulting in a modern color scheme and a clean, minimalistic design. We felt that a lighte…

Since we announced native Invision Community apps for iOS and Android, the response has been incredible. Hundreds of customers registered interest in joining the testing process, and for the initial round we selected around thirty users, roughly split between iOS and Android. Thank you to those testers for their work in reporting issues and providing feedback over the past couple of months. Open Beta I'm pleased to report that we are now ready to begin an open beta of the app, allowing everyone to install it and test it. See below for information on installing the apps. As this is still a testing process, we'd welcome any bug reports or feedback you ha…

Some of you may know of the Augustin Alliance. This friendly bloke August created a Discord bot that includes automated roled management by verifying a member's NS nation account. Details here: NS Verify: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1172824 The bot that does it: https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=472017 I'd like to have a conversation about: whether or not this would save enough admin time to merit setting up whether we need to verify NS nations (mind the feature to exempt certain accounts) any other Discord- or bot-related ideas that pop to mind

I'm excited to reveal that we are making Invision Community native apps for iOS and Android! For the past few months, our staff has been using an internal test build right here on our community. Now we are ready to widen testing to a larger pool of customers. Information on how to become a tester is at the end of this post. But first, let's take a look at the app itself. Technology Preview We have a lot of exciting plans for the Invision Community app. We wanted to take full advantage of a clean slate and build a brand new experience that embraces a native app's interfaces. While the app is unmistakably Invision Community, it features new ways of interact…

Minor releases are almost always just maintenance releases. We gather up a fistful of bug reports and fix them to ensure that every month or so, our clients enjoy more stability and efficiency with Invision Community. However, more recently we've noticed that we're running low on bug reports, so we've managed to squeeze in a handful of improvements in Invision Community 4.4.5. Let's take a look and see what's new in Pages. How should the canonical tag behave? While this isn't the most exciting name for a feature, it does explain it reasonably well. We had a recent discussion on the forums where it was pointed out that the canonical tag directed search eng…

Hello fellows. Context In the past we had a custom forum theme: Dimension. I had bought this for $30 when we moved to this new forums. https://www.ipsfocus.com/themes/dimension/ The license was valid for 6 months. We used it for longer than I had access to updates. A few months ago some design elements started to break. This is why I set another default thee. Proposal Now that the Patreon is up and running, we can think about either (a) renewing the license, or (b) trying a new theme. But before we start the discussion about colours and styles, I want to know if you really want this. And so we arrive at this poll. It'll be up f…

Do you recall that scene in Harry Potter where young Harry is sitting in his Uncle’s living room when hundreds of letters from Hogwarts burst through the fireplace, filling the room? Sometimes, when you log into the administrator’s control panel, it can feel a bit like that. As the administration control panel has evolved, there has been more of a need to display notifications, alerts and warnings to the administrators. There are several things which may require an administrator's attention which may show a notice on the AdminCP dashboard, a banner on the community, or send an email. For example: When a new version of Invision Community is released. …

Hey team, Issue Recently I took some time to split our OOC forums from the IC ones. This was announced and implemented earlier this months. http://www.europans.com/topic/4740-a-brief-reorganisation/ I hope it helped bring some clarity to our OOC forums. Proposal Now I would like to do the same for our IC forums. I have been contemplating the following organisation. It is based on an easy structure of ABC. Affairs: what is now "World Today" Business: everything that is trade related Conflict: whenever military actions are involved Debate: includes all international organisations Entertainment: cultu…

Would it be possible to allow users to edit the actual source code of their post (whether it's BBCode or HTML+CSS)? It's not possible using the WYSIWYG editor to include a BBCode floating box (or a box at all) because it seems it only understand a more limited form of BBCode, and a box isn't included, meaning Wiki-style factbooks aren't possible on the forum. The WYSIWYG editor also makes other compromises regarding formatting, such as regarding each {hr} divider as being in its own paragraph spacing-wise, inflexible tables, and being unable to choose a more granular font size (or, for that matter, a font which is not included as a preset in the drop-down menu). One way o…

It's past midnight for me. While finishing up before heading to bed, and I noticed some inline debugging information being spewed out by the "Dimension" theme. I already knew it was a couple of months out of date. But I didn't expect it to cause any visual problems. Apparently, it's now adding a white on black text. Sorry about that. Since it's night for me, and I cannot fix this right away, I've moved everyone over to the default theme, aptly named "IPS Default". This takes a litte getting used to, but should do for now. This will be sorted out tomorrow. G'night. 🎩

Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such helpdesk topics as "GDPR updates", "Forum upgrade tonight" and "A Brief Reorganisation". Tonight, we would like to discuss the important topic of the moderator. Moderators, or "mods" as are sometimes also called, are a valuable and important element of making sure the community stays happy and healthy. The Issue Right now, we have different moderators on this forum versus the Discord server. Forum moderators Discord moderators Moderator on one Adaptus Suverina Tagmatium Gallambria Variota Moderator on both …

Unless you've been living under a rock, or forgot to opt-in to the memo, GDPR is just around the corner. Last week to wrote a blog answering your questions on becoming GDPR compliant with Invision Community. We took away a few good points from that discussion and have the following updates coming up for Invision Community 4.3.3 due early next week. Downloading Personal Data Invision Community already has a method of downloading member data via the member export feature that produces a CSV. However, we wanted Invision Community to be more helpful, so we've added a feature that downloads personal data (such as name, email address, known IP addresses, k…

Quick question: trying to create a wiki-styled factbook I have been using tables for a decent layout. However, when I insert a table (nation infobox) within a table, the latter simply disappears when the post is made...? Is this due to size (width being larger than 500px for instance)? Also: since I am not a full member I can only edit a post for a limited amount of time, correct?

Since December 2015 I have set the forum background image to a winter theme: https://sites.google.com/site/orionieuropa/...-protonmail.jpg For the upcoming spring season, I was thinking of changing to something else. And, as always, this is open to suggestion. When summer comes around, I may go with this desert scene although nothing is set in stone: 1. http://whois.domaintools.com/images/backgr...esert-hills.jpg 2. https://cdn.thinglink.me/api/image/49276821...10/scaletowidth 3. http://imgprix.com/web/wallpapers/desert-b...y/1920x1080.jpg And then of course there is autumn.

This is a quick announcement to inform you about a couple of structural changes to the RP forums. To make the divide clear between IC and OOC forums, I will be grouping the following subforums into their own section. OOC Planning & Discussion. Will remains as is. Atlas (or similar name). Map discussions are buried within the world news. Claims are also handled in OOC. So it makes sense to display this as such. Encyclopedia (or similar name). This contains the current factbooks, and can contain information from the Wiki as well. The Art gallery. Where you can request help with design to improve the look and feel of your nation and stories. …

Hi people. I'm thinking of adding some style to the way a quote is presented here on the form. Right now a quoted text on this forum looks like this. While this is clear to read, I was thinking of make it a bit more stylish. From what I know is possible with CSS styling, you can make this look like a real piece of paper. For example, look at the background of these: http://codepen.io/mlms13/pen/LKFoy (my favourite) http://codepen.io/claudericke/pen/VLGmWL (still ok) Still readible. Looks unique. Will work rightaway for all old post and new ones. And I can always undo. My only real concern is what to do with quotes in quotes in quotes. To solve …
