Aurelian Cup Day 2 - March 27th

Shffahkia vs. Asgeirria (0-1)
Municipal Stadium, Matana

It was mostly a sea of red and yellow in Matana as Shffahkia played against Asgeirria, a country looking to improve upon their horrifying 2018 SATAMFC League Cup performance, placing dead last and being only one of two teams not to advance past the group stage. In just 9 minutes, The Asgeirria National Team scored their first goal of the tournament and held onto their lead as they tried to pierce through the aggressive Shffahkian defense while they put up quite a bit of defense of their own, starving Shffahkia of a goal and winning the match.

'Marioneta' vs. Metzlitlalio (2-4)
New Bank of Yulaa Stadium, Yulaa

Going into this match, pundits and experts expected this to be an easy win for the 'Marioneta' National Team, but perhaps the relatively friendly and passionate crowd filled with Metztli fans launched the National Team of Metztlitlalio into a scoring frenzy. In the first half in over the span of 15 minutes, Metztlitlalio scored not once, not twice, but thrice! Despite a slight struggle in the beginning of the second half by conceding an own goal to 'Marioneta' and a couple of yellow cards, they still hung on and put another one in the net, bringing an upset not many saw coming.

Aurelian Cup Day 3 - March 28th

Shffahkia vs. Oyus (1-0)
Hani Center, Arbaro

While the host team had the crowd on their side, the score most certainly wasn't as Shffahkia looked to bounce back from their loss to Asgeirria. While Oyus put up a convincing defensive, it perhaps backfired with yellow cards being handed to Oyus like it was Alon's Day. Despite the setbacks, the game remained rather even-handed between the two teams until Shffahkia scored late in the game and kept the ball until time expired. While there is doubt about the host team performance, Shffahkians can sleep well tonight as it was clear that they can still advance to the next round.

Metztlitlalio vs. Selayar (2-0)
Municipal Stadium, Matana

In a favorable setting in Matana, the National Team of Metztlitlalio went up against Selayar to once again prove itself, and quickly showed that their first game in the tournament was no fluke. However, it was not without great effort that Selayar went down as they took more shots than the Metzli team to no avail. Some may point to the fouls and Yellow Cards the Selayari team produced as perhaps the reason why momentum may not have been behind them, but in truth one couldn't know for sure as Metztlitlalio makes a name for itself in Oyus.

  • Shots on Goal: 5 for Metztlitlalio, 8 for Selayar

Aurelian Cup Day 4 - March 29th

Asgeirria vs. Little Flau (0-1)
Municipal Stadium, Matana

Group A's trend of low scoring matches seemed to continue in this game with Asgeirria's struggle on display, allowing Little Flau to put one past them in the first half while not finding many opportunities to put one past Little Flau to at the very least force a draw even after Little Flau was handed two yellow cards. Despite the setback, a path remains for them to advance as they hold at second in the group and Little Flau took the lead.

Kirvina vs. 'Marioneta' (4-0)
Oyusard Fidelity Bank Field, Farla

Perhaps 'Marioneta' may need to look inwards from coaching to players as yet another blowout match saw another four goals fly by them. Kirvina's National Team had a field day as three of the four occurred in the first half and another just minutes into the second half. Frustration from the 'Marionetan' team was very clear especially when you consider that the Kirvinska National Team hauled in as many Yellow Cards as they did goals against 'Marioneta'.

Aurelian Cup Day 5 - March 30th

Shffahkia vs. Little Flau (3-0)
New Bank of Yulaa Stadium, Yulaa

It was a tight game, Little Flau and Shffahkia both had shown to be teams ready to beat the other as both knew that if they lost that it could be the end of the road for them. At first, it was quick. 15 minutes into the game, Shffahkia put one in Little Flau's net, but this wouldn't discourage the little islands that wanted to. However, Shffahkia was relentless unlike Little Flau, and continued taking shots over and over and over. There was hope even as it got closer and closer to the end until 9 minutes before expiry, Shffahkia punched through another goal to seal the deal and a third for good measure at minute 86, rocketing to first in Group A and advancing to play the second seed of Group B.

Oyus vs. Asgeirria (2-0)
Oyusard Fidelity Bank Field, Farla

Despite being dead last in Group A, all was not lost for the host national team. Asgeirria had managed to beat a respectable team after their SATAMFC performance which made many nervous when Oyus had her turn against them. Would her shots be sniped mid-air by an Asgeirrian player before reaching the net? Asgeirria was relentless at the beginning, with three shots on goal in less than 10 minutes but perhaps being so razor focused on trying to score was easily exploited when an Oyusard took it across the field and scored at minute 10! The game seemed to remain in favor of the home team with a vocal crowd on their side and perfect ball management relentlessly bombing the Asgeirrians until eventually getting another in before time expired.

Selayar vs. 'Marioneta' (1-0)
Hani Center, Arbaro

It was as though there was no longer anyone home inside the heads of the Marionetan players, as if they had given up. With less than 3 minutes having passed, Marioneta got its first yellow card during a somewhat clean run in the tournament, an omen of what was to come with another four being awarded to them, which made many wonder where the professionalism and discipline of the Marionetan team had gone? This was also apparent in play too, as they let Selayar walk all over them. Selayar had twice as many attempts as Marioneta on the day allowing Selayar to cruise to a win and advancement to the next round against Group A's Shffahkia.

  • Shots on Goal: 8 for Selayar, 4 for ‘Marioneta’

Kirvina vs. Metztlitlalio (2-0)
Municipal Stadium, Matana

The most dangerous person is the one with nothing to lose, and perhaps that is also applicable to the Metzlitlalio National Team as they took the field against Kirvinska. In Matana, Kirvina now faced either continuing to climb up or watching themselves possibly fall down the group standings. Despite a respectable performance with more shots than Metzlitlalio, it was the latter's shots that were more successful. It was likely out of their hands with the momentum that the Metzli team had gained in their first two matches as Metzlitlalio saw themselves marching on to face the host team next for a spot in the finals and for a chance to make great run even better.

  • Shots on Goal: 5 for Kirvina, 4 for Metztlitlalio
  • Shots: 13 for Kirvina, 8 for Metztlitlalio
  • Fouls: 24 for Kirvina, 14 for Metztlitlalio

Selayar vs. Shffahkia (0-1)
Oyusard Fidelity Bank Field, Farla

After some days of rest and practice, teams took to the field again to fight for a spot in the final and take home the Aurelian Cup. In the first match, Selayar took on Shffahkia in Farla. Selayar put up a pretty good fight and it was anybody's game for much of the match, even despite Selayar's numerous yellow cards and lopsided offside calls. However, as time came close to expiring, Extra Time was avoided as Shffahkia scored at minute 90, just in time, advancing to the final. It was clear that Selayar put lots of effort behind the ball and perhaps they shouldn't be underestimated as they look to prove they are at the very least, the third best team in the Cup.

Aurelian Cup Day 9 - April 3

Oyus vs. Metztlitlalio (0-0)
New Bank of Yulaa Stadium, Yulaa

After some days of rest and practice, teams took to the field again to fight for a spot in the final and take home the Aurelian Cup. In the second match, Oyus faced the promising team that has yet to lose or draw in the tournament thus far. Good defense deterred many from taking shots and ultimately losing possession of the ball in a back and forth jog across the field, but it was clear the host team found paramount to take a shot when possible against a very capable neighbor. While Metztlitlalio was held off for nearly 30 minutes, their second shot off a corner kick would quickly go in just a mere minute after their first shot of the game. However, in the second half, it would not take long for the host team to respond after a rowdy pep speech was given by the team manager. However, it would be forced into an edge of the seat over time which saw a prepared Metztlitlalio dominate in targets. Despite the eventful show put on by the team, the true test came after time expired once more, moving to the inevitable shootout. The visibly taxed Pika Tilo, Oyus' goalie, barely saved the first of five attempts before conceding the next four to Metztlitlalio, resulting in a resounding win as the historic run continued into the final of the Aurelian Cup against Shffahkia.

Aurelian Cup Day 11 - April 5

Oyus vs. Selayar (1-2)
Oyusard Fidelity Bank Field, Farla

While Oyus made it far by making it to the Knockout Round, it still hurt that it did not hold on to fight in the final. No less, all was not lost as they could still prove to be a team worthy of remembering playing the third place match Or, were they? In just the first minute, Selayar scored quickly killing the motivation of the Oyusard team. This was especially noticed when the team could not capitalize on a Selayar yellow card and conceding the ball and another score against them minutes later, all in just the first half. While a rally was attempted, answering with one goal against Selayar, it still wasn't enough as Selayar held on.

Aurelian Cup Day 12 - April 6

Metztlitlalio vs. Shffahkia (3-1)
New Bank of Yulaa Stadium, Yulaa

It would be one for the history books in Yulaa. In a rare appearance at the final match of a tournament, the Metztlitlalio National Team was taking the pitch having yet to lose a match against a professional Shffahkia National Team. It was rather clear, at first at least, that the Aurelians knew what to do against this team that had scored the most goals compared to any other, by being the first to score. Not long after, though, the tides began to change as the Metzli team kept taking shots at Shffahkia eventually tying the game, 1 a piece. The game was tense, and perhaps nerves got to Shffahkia in a second half that went to Metztlitlalio. Just 2 minutes after the start, an own goal is scored by Shffahkia, giving Metztlitlalio the lead. While they did their best to try to tie up the score, Metztlitlalio went and punched through another one to put the game away up by two. At the end of the match, the Metztlitlalio players could be seen celebrating with streams of tears going down their face. It was a historic moment in their football history.

      THE EUSTACIAN WARS
NOS GUERRES, NOS VIES, NOTRE DESTIN

The year was 1807. Dark stormclouds gathered across the Aurelian continent, promising to burst and shower its citizens in a torrent of unyielding blood. Aurelia may have been at the corner of the world geographically, but its residents saw themselves as its center- proud, stoic, and innovative. It had already been host to all manner of events, including a full crusade, and not one but two great migrations. The continent had weathered a thousand storms. And yet, heralded by the modern age, there came another- one so promisingly devastating, one so divine in its terror, that even right before it all but those at the very top held their breath and prayed that it would not arrive. This is no cataclysm of God, this is no epidemic. These are the Eustacian Wars, a work of man himself, and I will recount them, battle by battle, step by step, the genius and folly of each great general and legislator as he left his stamp in the annals. The page will be covered in red ere we are done. But before we introduce a battle, we must introduce its battleground, those who are battling, and its background. The atmosphere in Aurelia through the nineteenth century was  unprecedentedly tense, but it was not as tense at any point as it was at this one. The forces that made up the continent had begun to finally, after centuries of co-existence, collide in the most spectacular fashion possible. Their colonial overlords having fallen to revolution, the Shffahkians had cast off their Europan chains- and set about with, in their eyes, a right ordained by God to dominate this backwards and heathen continent- to stretch from sea to sea, a glorious imperial sprawl. Their nascent republic had been a whirling inferno, unstable and plagued with infighting- executions, filibustering, and corruption. This had come to an end with the meteoric rise of a young general, Eustace Talante, who after a victorious showing in a campaign to reclaim Lunahasse from the loyalists had earned himself the support of his soldiers. Not wasting a moment, he had marched back to Port-Reel and proclaimed himself not General, not Viceroy, but Emperor, casting out the old government at gunpoint and having many of its radicals shot.
What he destroyed and desecrated in intellectualism, he made up for in stability, and after a quick reorganization of his country's administrative divisions and fundamental laws- changes that would persist to the present day- he organized himself for the long march south to the other coast. Unfortunately, in his view, there were other nations between himself and that great prize. Specifically, the ancient entente between two powers of Tagmatine descent- the Kirvinska and the Rihannsu- that was no pushover in its own right. His settlers' encroachments to the south had been met with reactions ranging from cold distaste to outright hostility, and now that it was a decision backed outright by the government, he was certain that it could lead to nothing but outright war. Still, for a few years, he gathered his munitions and men, deciding where it was best for him to travel and where it was best for him to begin his grand campaigns. But his opponents were not idle either. They did not rest in the face of such danger. Sensing in this Emperor's belligerent rhetoric the desperate search for a casus belli, the Kirvinska Grand Duke Constantine had set to shoring up his ancient defenses. His government partially paralyzed by rebellious magnates and a lack of funds in the treasury, his reign thus far had been hamstrung with difficulties. The military infrastructure on the borders had degraded, and so had the quality of the land army, being made up now of a pitiful lot of conscripts and robbers. In these few years before the war, he was granted critical moments to make changes that he thought- and were indeed- necessary and vital. The first of these sweeping changes was the transition of a lot of the Marines into a land army. The Kirvinska navy had always been the pride of the nation, owing to their origin and their overseas ambitions, and while they sprawled as a land empire their hearts always gazed outward to the ocean. This meant that these troops had been spared the budget cut, and so he was able to create a functional army in a fraction of the time that he would otherwise need. Another sweeping change was the revitalization of the border fortifications and the border guards, the Akralai. The Emperor Eustace, through his aggressive stance, had granted to Constantine the perceived threat he needed to curtail the power of his magnates and draw them into a much closer role serving him. With their money, he was able to bring spending up to normative levels once again, and prepare his soldiers for a protracted war. Whatever other historians may write, there were no misconceptions among higher leadership about the likelihood of this battle. It was expected, and planned for.
The Rihannsu, faced with their recent unification, were confronted as well with the problem of an extremely low core manpower and extremely low core discipline. While their men were brave and willing to fight, even to the death, they were not of the sort of quality that could carry on through Aurelia's harsh conditions without the promise of battle or glory. So they would have to be drilled. And yet, there was not time to drill them, at least not in the lengthy Kirvinska fashion. A School of Desperation, 'Fhilvanam', began to take hold among the Rihannsu generals. Corners were cut and men were prepared with only a small piece of the usual training, just the essentials. It was the greatest hope of Rihannsu High Command that they would be spared the most crushing blows, and as such would have more time to refine these troops into a genuine fighting force up to Europan or Argic standards, with the help of their ally, of course. All three made ready for war, shifting resources to the border area and sending increasingly threatening messages to the other side. There was, however, another player in the game. The Tárek, the indigenous people of the Aurelian continent, straddled lengthwise between the three increasingly menacing great powers. Their history was one of long tragedy, a slow and painful decline from all sides gnawing and clawing at them. First of all it had been their most noble foe, the Kirvinska tribesmen who had come overseas to leave their fates as clients to the Aromans. From them they had learned steelworking and ironworking, animal husbandry, and the art of constructing grand metropolises to house thousands upon thousands of citizens. But the battle against this foe had not been a winning one. A slow retreat over the course of hundreds of years drove not just the Tárek states, but the Tárek people, over the Batreasca to never return. Then came the foreigners. The Rihannsu, and in rapid succession the Lysians, the Limonaians, and the Derthalers. These foes had no scruples. They destroyed the greatest, glistening holdouts of the Tárek people, never to be rebuilt. This grave injury was remembered, and carried in every true tribesman's heart. In the middle as they were, they would have to choose a side before too long, or perish in the blaze.
