Request: Faramount

Recommended Posts

Posting here per Orioni's recommendation. I'd spent a couple hours chatting with people on discord last night about where/what I might play. I'm pretty open -- I just don't want to be European, don't want to be developed, and don't want to be neighborless.

  • Nation in Europa: Faramount (though in-game name may be Faramont, if I go with Fleur as my colonizer)
  • Flag: Three stripes -- orange, green, and light blue. Very simple.
  • Capital name: TBD (based on who colonized the country)
  • Capital location: TBD (will need to decide this once I start figuring out the history more)
  • Factbook link: None of yet
  • Newsroom link: None of yet
  • Culture: Probably a mix of several African cultures with some kind of European overlay from period of colonization (currently thinking French, as Fleur de Lys has offered to be a colonial power that ruled me, but nothing is finalized).
  • Climate: Something on the warmer end (tropical? hot desert?).
  • Location: We had talked about my being placed here last night, but I recognize that "I want that land" is not how this works. I'm open for anything.
  • History: Nation would have been drawn into existence by European colonizers in the last couple centuries, hence it being relatively sizable (though I imagine a low population density due to underdevelopment). There'd be several different ethnic groups, and a number of different tribal groups, all lumped together unhappily. This would underpin the ultimate instability that I plan to be a central plot point of my RP. Nation would start game ruled by a dictator, who seized power in a bloodless coup not long after the colonial power withdrew (maybe 50-60 years ago).

I'd be nice with another nation in Alharu, just a thought here... Perhaps having a coastline would be smart, considering you used to be a colony, and Marudiviah wasn't a colony of Fleur de Lys?

You make a very good point about a coastline likely being a good idea. I'll get to work on a factbook, and then we can proceed.

Here is my request, remade after further worldbuilding.

  • Nation in Europa: Democratic Republic of Faramount (République Démocratique de Faramont)
  • Flag: Three stripes -- orange, green, and light blue. Very simple.
  • Capital name: Port Jacqueline
  • Capital location: Coastline of nation, ideally at mouth of a river.
  • Factbook link: Link
  • Newsroom link: 1, 2, 3
  • Culture: French, which was imposed upon an indigenous African.
  • Climate: Something on the warmer end (tropical? hot desert?).
  • Location: I'd like to be a relatively sizable state with only a limited coastline.
  • History: Originally colonized by Limonaia, then by Fleur de Lys, before achieving independence in 1945. Military coup in 1963 established present government.

@Faramount I've come up with a few ideas. Being next to @Mauridiviah is a good idea, although I would suggest settling east of him. Alternatively, going even more east, you could claim the largest river delta in the world.

WOIwuKE.png

Furthermore, you could settle next to @Shffahkia as well, as it would fit colonial lore as well. However, those lands are either continental or mediterranean climate-wise.

That river delta one...

😍

I've had a chance to inspect the map quite closely over the last 2 days and I have to say that general area is quite nice. Faramount, I think you have a winner with that one.

I definitely took great interest in the delta, and I continue to agonize over which is the better place to go. Yet I think ultimately, I am averse to the delta because its so good. My nation is a former mining colony; it was indirectly ruled for all but 40 years. But such a prosperous river delta -- it would've drawn settlers, not imperialists. I'd surely have a transplant population -- and, given the natural basis for agriculture, gravel, and sand, probably an economically successful transplant population. My nation doesn't have that same level of economic prosperity.

But I'm certainly open to input here. What makes you guys prefer it?

I'd say an imperialist nation would seek such a prosperous river delta for exactly the reason you spelled out. They'd want that territory for its own economic interest. There is also an argument one could make that they claimed the land but never fully utilized the land to its full potential, giving you, a now-independent country, the opportunity to seize the moment and put both feet upon the land and turn the former colony into a very rich country in no time, assuming there are no volcanoes underneath or plague of locust that were waiting for the imperialist country to leave.

I suppose but even when colonization occurred, many colonial powers didn't have a full readout of the land's potential.

Now, if you didn't take that delta region, what would your recourse be? l have taken a look at the other options presented and if you didn't take the prosperous one, I'd recommend looking at the suggestions in Aurelia, but that would mean some climate changes and probably a change in population makeup diversity-wise. I really do think you have the best option on the table.

Y'all are very convincing. I'll need to give this more thought. I'm happy to take input from anyone that's willing to give it, if anybody else is following this.

Y'all have got me convinced -- I'll do the river delta. I'd like to ask for a bit of a chance, though -- I'd like to have up to the Northwards fork in the river, so I can have another city there. Red would be my capital; brown major cities. How does this seem to you guys? I estimate (from google Earth) that I'd have a total area of ~160,000 square kilometers, putting me around the same size as Tunisia or the US State of Georgia.

I think that's a wonderful idea and I am glad to see that you went ahead with the river delta options.

Goodnight @Faramount.

  • Factbook on IIWiki looks fine. http://iiwiki.com/wiki/Faramount
  • Newsroom. I see you created two agencies. That's alright.
  • Location. Now that's I've read up on all the above, including the location switches ;) , I agree with the last screenshot you posted in southeastern Alharu. That request would match up with your description.

Good to hear!

I'd like one small change -- for now, no other cities besides the capital. And I'd like the capital to encompass both the red dot and the little brown dot next to it. I think, in terms of map size, that'll work out better, anyway. If possible, have the center be like right on the coast between the two rivers that end right next to each other.

Okay. So now that things are ironed out in terms of name of direction, I've a new map, which has labels for cities. If you would be so kind when making the next map update, I'd really appreciate it if in addition to adding in my nation, you'd add in these cities.

7zXwJaH.png

A. Port Jacqueline. This is the capital (red dot, if unclear).
B. Faraville. This is a port city. (Please do not place on map).
C. Orville. This is a normal city.
D. New Lyrie. This is a port city.
E. Zaleville. This is a normal city.

Nation in NS Europa Region: Fleur de Lys
Current Name: République de Fleur de Lys
      Future Name: République Lysienne
      Current Flag:

      Future Flag:

      Current Location:

Future Location (expansion in this case):

      Current Capital Name: Lyrie
      Future Capital Name: Cœur
Current and Future Capitals location are indicated on the map above.

Factbook link: Current one. Under construction one, which shall succeed if the expansion is approved, and shall see the changes RPed except for the removal of Bellefaye, Neaumanin, Danebourg and Mauvin (which, just disappear?).
Newsroom link: Currently APL. This (the name, stance and status of the APL newspaper) is however open to change or some updates in function of the RP

OOC Context: I have decided to kill in the egg the idea of an Union Pan-Républicaine (and de facto the nations added for such RP) for two main purposes: First one, being that I’ve never been good at RPing large nations or military (I mean nations of +25 millions in demographics), this isn’t something in my nature (had experimented couple times, but I do not feel comfortable), Second given the feeling of some people of “unfairness” even if the application have been approved, which I shall understand and prefer therefore to limit this.
I, however, given my most active diplomatic network (at least before May) had a bad after-taste, given the lack of demographics to support such active military operations overseas (deployment in Afropa with Iverican means, Operations in Ahrana, supporting ISTC logistics where needed, helicopters active in Adaptus navy patrolling near Derthalen, 2 Fighter Squadrons along Patrol Planes being deployed in Sunset Sea Islands), as I find it weird for a minor nation (in both economic and demographics definitions) to handle that many things, I felt the need to “upgrade” (that’s from where the idea of the Union was born, add to this a launch for “fulfilling the map holes” of the continent of Europa, which seems to no longer be the rule). As you may have seen in my factbook, currently the Lysian population is of about 7 528 709 citizens for a total GDP of 565 338 287 519,00 USD. The expansion would consist of making it pass to 20 372 959 citizens (increasing 2,71 time the population) and a total GDP of 1 179 648 314 441,35 (increasing 2,09 time the GDP) making overall the GDP per capita go down (of 19 000 USD, or at 77,11% of the current one).
Given this, if the expansion was to be approved, the République Sœurs would also have to be removed definitely from the map (Bellefaye, Neaumanin, Danebourg and Mauvin) as two of them (Danebourg and Mauvin) would be used to explain and RP the expansion of Fleur de Lys.
But most importantly, this shall give me a fair amount of fresh air. Why? Simply as, in RP, one of Mécra’s motivation (and mine) also is to reform the Republic, which as you probably have read in the Crisis in the Assemblée Nationale thread, is pretty bureaucratic and long to RP, something I was enjoying before, but I feel I need more free move and politic action (rather then everything passing through the Assemblée Nationale at a moment or another, which is basically the case today in Fleur de Lys’ working, fun fact, I retook French 3rd Republic working principles, and this may explain why it ended up badly), and much less characters if possible.
This shall naturally happen with @Cristina and @Magnaeus approval, as also (I suppose I need approval?) the removal of the 4 Republics.

History: How shall it pass? First of all, if Seylos “A Great Europan Collapse” shall not be applied, the scenario shall remain as the following (more or less, details to be adapted after naturally or in function of demands/protests):
Following the failed negotiations of the Union, the République of Mauvin, having took the leadership of the provisory Union (with Protectrice Maréchal) would be much displeased, and see the main reasons as this failure Mécra’s (which was the one at the origin of the idea an Union) opposition (which he got, given the fact he haven’t been elected Protecteur, unlike what most had predicted). Violents exchanges also had happened during the Congrès, making in the end, the 5 nations, more separated then before. The République of Mauvin, willing to exercise some pressure on Fleur de Lys, given also a strange aerospace violation by an unknown flying object, which was coming from Fleur de Lys, would impose a suspension of Mauvin uranium exports to Fleur de Lys. Fleur de Lys, having 3 months of reserve, have the time to see how it may go, however given Mécra’s revanchard after-taste, shall make everything to push for sizing the Mauvin uranium mines by the Lysian military, which is exactly what shall happen following a series of rising tensions and events. However, once occupied, the mines shall not only be managed by the Lysians, but to also ensure complete independence from foreign power, the territory they reside in, shall be annexed.
Second, south of present-day Danebourg. Given great strikes, which have been introduced by Président du Conseil Crolly, socialism is on the rise, as Rostelsa, which is conservative, refuse to give up, leading to great manifestations against the current Government, and calling for general reelections, along reforms. To stabilise, the Danebourgeois Government, having similar stances then RL Germany when coming to military and little police force (as after all, if you remember correctly, it is also the only of the 5 Républiques to do a budget surplus) call its neighbours to send police officers to maintain order, something which obviously Neaumanin shall deny, while Fleur de Lys do send indeed troops. Following a series of rising tensions once more, leading to a total destabilisation of the Government, the Lysians, in order to secure more the territory the Danebourgeois had given them to secure because of the lack of means they have, shall send the military to enforce law in the region. Given the new situation, of a destabilised Government and Mécra with full powers as Dictateur in Fleur de Lys, shall de facto proclaim the République Lysienne and annex those territories, along reforming the entirety of the administration system.
The RP, shall pursue itself mainly in the thread “Crisis in the Assemblée Nationale“ even if references of those changes shall probably be done in other threads (including, newspapers, diplomatic meetings etc.).

    • @Mauridiviah's Mundus Liber ranks Prymont 8th globally on Inalienable Rights - ATARA Delegate speaks out controversially on survey's flaws NEW HALSHAM, COURTMARSH - Yesterday, the Mundus Liber Institute published the results for their Inalienable Rights Survey, the third global ranking they've releases this year, which ranks nations across the globe based on rights such as working hours, bearing arms, seeking asylum, and drug use restrictions. The United States was ranked eighth overall, for:  no right to bear arms foreigners not allowed to seek asylum adultery is illegal no capital punishment hard drugs are illegal Previously, Prymont has ranked third on the Freedom Index, and second on the LGBT Rights survey, with this placement of eighth coming as a shock to many. Since 2017, the government has worked tirelessly to promote freedom and rights in the country, reversing the negative effects of the socialist tendencies that held back the country from 1995 to 2017. These positive changes were apparent in the first two rankings, but many have called for Prymont to change their stance regarding inalienable rights with the release of the current survey's results. Culture Minister Brooke Weitz agreed to walk PNN through the laws that limited Prymont's final ranking, and to provide an explanation as to why they are in place. PNN learned that bearing arms is illegal to prevent frequent public shootings that are seen in countries where the right to bear arms are present, and to generally ensure the safety of the general populace; foreigners are prevented from seeking asylum due to former legislation implemented by the socialist Freedom Party, and the current National Party are seeking to overturn it; adultery is illegal to promote healthy relationships for the younger generations; capital punishment is illegal as it is seen as excessively harsh, but minor advocate groups are pushing to legalise it; and hard drugs are illegal to ensure the health and safety of the general populace, and to prevent severe health effects that come with the abuse of hard drugs. It's easy to see why these laws are in place once the explanations have been provided, yet thousands took to Wittier this morning to express their dismay and anger at their government. Foreigners being disallowed to seek asylum came heavily under attack, with many calling for capital punishment to be reinstated for society's worst offenders. There was also some support to legalise adultery, with the more vocal citizens claiming that the government shouldn't interfere in their love lives. Despite this, there was mass support for the right to bear arms and hard drug use to both remain strictly illegal. PNN Radio 1 tackled the issue this morning, with radio host Troy Aunan providing brief clarifications upon Prymont's laws and broadcasting the varied opinions of his listeners. During the breakfast show, which usually features political discussion and special guests, the controversial ATARA delegate, Julian Nordeng, made an appearance. A self-proclaimed deeply patriotic man, Nordeng was quick to criticise the Mundus Liber rankings in his uniquely interesting ways. "I mean, where do we begin?" "How about the most criticised set of legislation, the one surrounding a ban on foreigners seeking asylum in the United States?" "What about it? It's a brilliant idea, one that we need to keep! Have you seen the kind of people that are in Argis? You know, the people that we're keeping out? Ahrana is full of commie pigs. Poland-Lithuanian soldiers are killing their neighbours to spread their commie agenda. Greater Serbian politicians are killing their own people to spread their commie agenda. Argis is riddled with the worst kind of people. Do you really want these people coming into our perfectly safe country, and posing a risk to national security as the Serbian dictator tracks them down and sends suicide bombers?" "Don't you think you're slightly exaggerating there, Julian?" "Am I? Think about it, man! Everyone listening, have a good, hard think about it! Use your brains! Clearly, those Mauridivians are twisting our amazing laws to fit their own communist agenda-" "I don't think Mauridiviah is a socialist country."
Julian Nordeng expressing his disgust at the Mundus Liber results during his interview on PR1. "Shut up, let me finish! We've been placed in the top three in both of their last surveys, right? We're an amazing country, with amazing people who follow our amazing laws. Who gives them the right to place us so low? Let's look at the results, shall we? Number one, Variota. Bollocks. That plastic surgery abortion known as Dina Diva probably sucked off every commie working for the Mundus Liber to get number one. Adaptus, number two. Bollocks again. They sucked off the commies too, but they weren't as good so they only got second. And then Mauridiviah third! The cheek of it! But that's not all, oh no no no! Ahrana... now, are you ready for this... fourth! They're communist filth! They should be dead last! And then Lysia fifth, how did that happen? The commies were probably too drunk on that water-like Lysian wine to think properly. Sayf is sixth, they're clearly up to no good, probably threatened to suicide bomb the Mundus Liber HQ if they didn't rank well, and Gallambria is seventh. Nobody even knows what they do! We should be number one, plain and simple." A spokesperson for the National Party was quick to release a covering statement, claiming that Nordeng's views were strictly his own and were not shared by the party in any way. The statement praised the unbiased work of the Mundus Liber to spread information about the countries of the world, and assured that they'd work with Nordeng to confirm his opinions and to continue his work to further improve the country. Callers to the show were quick to shun Nordeng, who eagerly fought back before the interview finished.  Nevertheless, Nordeng's comments have only further fuelled the raging fire that surrounds the Mundus Liber in the United States. While many back the decision of the institute, some continue to lambaste them, and call for their local government representatives to debate the rankings in Parliament. The National Party have confirmed that they'll continue to make the country a better place to live and visit for all, and will take on board the criticisms provided by the controversial survey.

    • "...all of Kipan is in sadness today. Much of the country has been shut down to mourn the passing of Emperor Ozu, the most enlightened and progressive of rulers in several generations. He, like his predecessor, was a benevolent ruler who truly loved his people and strived to make their lives as comfortable as possible. It was at the start of his reign that he proclaimed that all students had the opportunity to attend higher education, outright eliminating school fees. This triggered a 55% increase in the number of students in just five years. During his later years, he even took a bold step by introducing universal healthcare, covering nearly 95% of the populace. These two reforms alone have transformed Kipan. From the outside world, these actions would seem as if the Emperor was gravitating towards socialism. Ozu always firmly reject such titles, saying that it was in the best interest of the Kipanese people." "This same rationale can be applied to Ozu's deathbed declaration of abolishing his own office. NBK found a clip from an interview it had done with Emperor Ozu six years ago in which he commented on some remarks made by the Kipanese Democratic Movement. He said the following: With his death, Democracy seems all but assured at coming. At the time in which the Emperor implied in his past remarks." "The Emperor's body has been laid in state in the Imperial Palace. Members of the Kipanese population will be able to view his body for the next three days before he is buried in a private funeral that will be attended by the Chamberlain, his surviving immediate and extended family members. A spokesman for the Chamberlain would not comment if anyone of the Hundred, the group NBK is for the time being referring to as those to be convened in Ryuku, would be present." "Individuals should be alerted that demand for rail transport to Miyako from across the Metropolis and across the Islands is extremely heavy. Kipan Railways is attempting to accommodate the surge as much as possible by adding additional services."
    • With the ban of FdL, I've been rewriting my nation to be a former Limonaian colony, instead of a former Lysian colony. This has necessarily required the renaming of my nation's cities. I'm hoping in the next map update, they could be changed. Port Jacqueline would now be New Limone
New Lyrie would now be New Sermerio
      Orville would now be Oroa.
Zaleville would now be Umberto. Thank you!
