Turmoil in Regis Celestia

Several new projects have swept through the country post-war, in an effort to improve the efficiency and modernity of Asgeirria. The first and foremost of these is a huge shift in tax policies; the removal of all but a value-added tax on goods in an effort to encourage economic growth and spending while maintaining or increasing overall government spending in the domestic market.

Additionally, in an effort to improve development in the newly-integrated Outer and Inner Rim Islands, a new imperial academy is being developed to be inclusive of gifted individuals from the newer provinces, as well as other nations, in an effort to break down the stigma of Asgeirrian intellectual superiority that is hobbling international and domestic relations.

In response to rumors of cooperation between the @Sunset Sea Islands and Asgeirria on a defensive network similar to what is in place on the Island itself, High Command has issued a statement regarding collaboration:

'Reports of our cooperation have been greatly exaggerated. If the Sunset Sea Islands asks, their proposal will be considered.'

Iron Indignation

While Asgeirria lacks the sheer volume to keep up with all the latest and greatest advancements, High Command makes it a point to have a finger in every pie. Railguns are no exception, and while the ship-killing rigs that some countries have might be out of reach for the time being, AsTech has been developing a much smaller proof-of-concept model, firing an 8mm round instead of a larger, more effective projectile. However, it is enough that it shows Asgeirrian scientific competency. AsTech is working on a production model for potential use against aircraft and missiles, though much work needs to be done to integrate such a weapon with radar advanced enough to calculate firing solutions for an ultrasonic projectile intercepting supersonic objects.

Decanus Pinscher of Bravo battalion, 3rd Company, XXXIII Legio

II Armata is being readied for sea in the port of Valencia, XXXIV and XXXIII Legio, two of the legions belonging to the Imperial Corps of Engineers, are being supplied for the planned humanitarian mission to rebuild the former state of Xara following their decision to unify with the Republic of Ahrana. Members of ICE are quite excited for their first international mission, and look forward to being the global spotlight, hoping to earn a name for themselves. Their transport ships are being escorted by II Armata due to the hostilities in the area, although the engineers opted to not bring along any escort force of troops.

The mission to Xara is primarily to modernize the power grid, transportation infrastructure, and public utilities, as well as supervise the construction of buildings up to stringent Asgeirrian code to prevent accidents due to sloppy craftsmanship. High Command hopes that, with the presence of Asgeirrian humanitarian manpower, the tension building up in the area might be relieved.

May glory find XXXIV Legio Firmo, XXXIII Legio Munitor, and II Armata Amphitrite in their mission to bring wisdom and safety to the people of the Argic region.

New Technology To Give Vets A Leg Up

New-Bionic-Leg.jpg

AsTech is working with disabled veterans of the Coalition war to develop bionic limbs, so that they can live normal lives to their fullest potential. The research has been going on in the background for quite some time, but with many amputees committing ritual suicide, there have been few test subjects. Now, with the influx of wounded veterans, there are plenty of people to experiment with/on! The future is looking ever-brighter in Asgeirria!

In other news, nudity protests in Tarsien have gotten to the point where Peacekeeper units are being posted on the streets. The rise in violent crime correlates to cheek to street radio in the increasingly disrobed east. The Emperor has issued a decree that nudity is legal, and will appear soon to give a speech to the public.

Asgeirrian Islanders Fight For Their Rights

High command has made the decision to allow people from the former Coalition islands to serve in the military, and establish their own government-sanctioned Houses, as a reward for good behavior in the months following the liberation of the people. A new division will be christened, and a new Legate to represent each of the islands will be selected in due time. The first batch of troops are to receive military training instead of a full stint in the reeducation centers, and have even performed an exercise with Asgeirrian troops from the 3rd Division.

latest?cb=20150928201135

Of the volunteers for the new division, former militia lieutenant Tzhere Khan has stood out among his peers. In addition to an honorable service record in the Coalition militia, he performed exceedingly well in all tests and trials during his military retraining by the Grand Army, and has even been accepted into the Salazar military academy. We watch his career with great interest, and hope other islanders follow suite.

Blue Violets of Spring

II Armata has arrived off the coast of the Ahranaian province of Xara and offloaded its supplies and the ICE legions, where they will begin work on the infrastructure overhaul of the recently assimilated province. In conjunction with this, several bridge officers and Legate Brandt Muninn have been airlifted to the newly formed III Armata, made up of ships gifted by Ahrana, where they will begin their journey to the Verde Sea to meet up with the returning II Armata to make the long trek home.

In the new island districts, things are heating up as an insurgent force has presented itself on Charybdis; apparently several militia garrisons disappeared into the jungle with a significant amount of weapons, ammunition, and gold. The 3rd Division has dispatched troops to deal with these upstarts swiftly and decisively.

The Emperor's New Clothes

The Emperor has long supported the nudist rights movement in Asgeirria, and has made it a point to promote marches and the acceptance of nudists, including the desegregation of beaches, bathrooms, and restaurants.

Following several counterprotests, the Keeper of Man appeared famously nude for his televised address of the nation, issuing the following speech:

"I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the Asgeirrian moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Nudist's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the Conservative Asgeirrian or the cold, but the Asgeirrian moderate who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says 'I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;' who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Nudist to wait until a 'more convenient season.'

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Regis Celestia has refrained from commenting on the nationally-televised spectacle, though several officials said, on condition of anonomity, that they had some concerns at how the publicity of the Emperor's dingleberries might affect foreign relations.

AsTech Looking Ahead

While some nations would like to dispute this fact, we Asgeirrians know the truth: The best pilots in the world come from Asgeirria. And the best pilots need the best planes. However, it is becoming apparent that the capabilities of our aircraft are outpacing the training and development of pilots. With directional thrusting, our aircraft are extremely maneuverable even at high speeds. But our pilots can only train so hard, and our genetically modified humans are decades away from where they need to be to man our aircraft. With the advent of modern imaging and seating technology, we are exploring prone cockpits, predictive onboard AI, and structural enhancements geared towards maximizing in-air fighter performance. While details of these projects are closely guarded secrets, the public is always allowed to access lists of ongoing projects at www.ATTP.asg, the government's one-stop shop for full transparency.

Automation Driving Innovation

The process of alleviating Asgeirria's overemployment crisis has come a long way in the past months, and as freshly reeducated citizens flood in from the island provinces, jobs are being filled, domestic prices are being lowered due to reduced production costs, and the economy is on the rise. With cooperation with companies from @Synturia, the Republic's industrial automation has come a long way in a short amount of time. Meanwhile, High Command has been developing ways to reduce the manpower load that the Grand Army exacts, and one of these ways is automating combat roles. AsTech has developed Asgeirria's very first fully autonomous tank, requiring only a remote operator. The prototype has been pushed to early systems testing, with one semi-functional prototype hitting field tests later this month.

Military Spending Soars

The new Pioneer division is looking for new and improved methods of transportation, and AsTech has just the thing! Earlier this week, the R&D firm confirmed that they were doing tests with the military on jetpacks and high-speed personal hovercraft. While some call this decadent and wasteful use of Asgeirrian resources, High Command calls it a responsible investment in an innovative and battlefield-shaping technology, reminiscent of the move from elephants to tanks a little over a century ago.

"We are a high-tech nation with high-tech needs. Every Legate was personally appointed for their qualifications by the Imperator, who also happens to be the CEO of ValenCorp, of which AsTech is a subsidiary." Legate Valentino told a reporter, in an interview. "We make decisions based on our sound judgement for the safety, security, and freedom of this nation."

Some people have criticized Regis Celestia of nepotism and corruption, but we were unable to find them for further comments. Several outspoken critics of the government have recently been sent to reeducation centers due to inappropriate conduct induced by the irresponsible use of recreational drugs. The Peacekeepers maintain an ever-watchful eye on the populace, doling out justice and uplifting the wretched and backwards in the name of the Emperor.

Former Ahranaian Ships to Rejoin Home Country

Following a long training voyage, and in response to changes in the balance of power in their government, the Ahranaian ships have been sent to the Asgeirrian-made docks in Xara via the Verde straight, where they will arrive soon, while simultaneously moving Asgeirrian ships out of the enclosed area and back to the homeland for refitting and resupplying. The crews have enjoyed shore leave in the lovely summer of Xara and Ahrana, taking in the culture of the area, and sharing their own.

After an uncertain period on the brink of war, it would seem an age of peace is upon us, and we could not give such a time a warmer welcome. Citizens from across the globe are arriving in droves to live, work, or simply visit in awe of the majesty that is Asgeirria. Similarly, our citizens are becoming more worldly, exploring what other nations have to offer; to those that find a home across the vast oceans, there will always be a place in Asgeirria for you.

Stormy Waters in the Argic

With the trial of the former head of state of the Ahranaian nation, coupled with diplomatic red tape being wrapped around Asgeirrian operations in Xara, Regis Celestia is left in doubt of its diplomatic relationship with @Ahrana, after several years of shaky diplomatic relations following the deposition of the royal family. Regis Celestia has long maintained that Asgeirria is an ally of the Ahranaian people, not its government, but the volatile and uncertain nature of the new Socialist government has many worried that Ahrana cannot be deemed a steadfast ally should a time of crisis come.

The Emperor assuaged doubt earlier this evening in a speech, stating that he expects a diplomatic visit from Ahrana's new Secretary General, and all doubts will be addressed at that time.

Grand Army's Mastership Floating

After a long period of construction, several of Asgeirria's naval projects have entered the sea trials phase of their construction. Namely, the CV-1, Asgeirria's first aircraft carrier, and the sister ships BBC-1 and BBC-2, Asgeirria's first nuclear-powered military vessels, have entered the steam-powered phase of their testing, before their reactors are fully laid in.

Other ships currently in sea trials are the DD-2 through 8, and AM-2 and 3, both already having ships in their class.

Other notable developments are the Saturn and Gemini-class nuclear-powered ships, designed with the experience with the BBC-series and previous civilian ships, with the @Sunset Sea Islands in mind.

High Command truly never fails to surpass expectations for the defense of our nation.

Charged Rating Sparks Fiery Outrage

The Mundus Liber report, or as some are beginning to call it, the Mundus Libel report, is beginning to face international backlash as many nations, free and oppressed alike, protest its biased and, in some cases, blatantly incorrect rankings.

John Valentino, on call from a diplomatic summit, was asked to comment on the scandal;

"This isn't a genuine ranking of nation's freedoms, this is a crusade of conformism. It's an insult to the heritage of freedom our culture boasts; we are a bastion against those who would take freedom for a promise of safety. We are a beacon of independent thought, we are the mecca of the free thinker. Millions of Asgeirrians have died for the principles of liberty and self-determination that we stand for. Perhaps the small minds of this world see us 'authoritarian' or 'backwards', but ask any man on the street what the government gives him, and he will answer his right to choose. The choice of life, death, happiness, sadness, sacrifice, passion, art, the choice of love. The love for the vivacious culture that surrounds you, the majestic landscapes found across our country, love for your fellow Asgeirrian, love for yourself, and love for whom you choose. You have the right to pursue happiness, in any and all forms. No matter what any insular survey says, we are free."

In other news, Ahrana has broken off the alliance between us and them after Legate Zhurong exposed them as collaborating with TRIDENT. She sent proof while being pursued by Ahranaian political enforcers, before being caught trying to escape to her homeland. They threatened to attack Asgeirria if they did not allow personnel, including two legions of humanitarian troops rebuilding infrastructure in Xara's decrepit ports, to be jailed within a week. They also had spies in Asgeirria, and ordered them to torch military assets! The treachery. The Imperator has not chosen the course of war, wishing to spare those who have families in Ahrana the loss that would occur once their government was forced to begin drafting soldiers to feed the meatgrinder that a war against us would be.

Asgeirria's space program is beginning in earnest, as the first government-funded satellites with the express purpose of research have been launched. Regis Celestia has cited allowing citizens the freedom to explore and learn about our universe as the one of the main reasons for the program's creation, as well as better understanding Eurth's physical processes to maximize combat capabilities. The Imperator has ordered that part of the profits of Asgeirria's sizable Sovereign wealth fund be put towards scientific endeavors, and improving the existing educational system.

Surprising Resurfacing for Archeology, Theology

Today in the Zhakrifa region, surveyors confirmed reports of a huge stone structure buried beneath a layer of sediment along the river, first indicated by surveillance satellites analyzing terrain for the expansion of precision farming in Asgeirria. The structure itself seems to be made of a polished limestone, and was once capped with some sort of metal cone or tip, judging by chemical deposits on the upper structure. Large-scale excavation is slated to begin after the end of the flooding season in Zhakrifa, with surveys of additional sites also being in the works as the increase in surveillance from orbit has revealed other possible sites. The original builders of the structure appear to be the Middle Kingdom, judging from the age and quality of the masonry. Perhaps with further study, more can be learned about the enigmatic civilization that fell over 3,000 years ago.

In an interview with the Imperator, a very important question was asked: Are non-Asgeirrians ever worthy of the next Dreaming?

"I find no evidence, contemporary or historical, that might suggest genetic heritage has anything to do with ascending to the next Dreaming. The notion that Asgeirrians and their descendants will be the only inhabitants of the next dreaming is a misconception that, as misconceptions often do, stems from a kernel of truth, which is that one must be worthy of the next Dreaming in order to ascend, and Asgeirrians are, as a people, supremely worthy."

Many conservatives decry the extremely liberal nature of this judgement, especially among the recently reinstated Hattusa. In these turbulent times, the rumblings of change are often drowned out by the chorus of nay-sayers.

    • BREAKING: President Duval announces snap general election for late November; first Prymontian Rus elections due November 2nd NEW HALSHAM, COURTMARSH - President George Duval has confirmed that, amidst the rumours of the past few days, the United States will be holding a snap general election on November 30th. This will come as a surprise to few, as rumours and hints have been circulating since September that pressure within Courtmarsh House has been building for a new parliament. The public are holding Duval to account for the failure to meet election promises: lower military spending, reduce unemployment, increase public services spending, and stabilise the chaotic political situation of central Argis. Politicians are also unhappy with Duval, as the National Party are now being accused of rigging the historic July 2017 elections to hand themselves an overwhelming majority. Prymont's five main political parties have been given just under six weeks to prepare and publish their election campaigns. The National Party confirmed that Duval will be their President if their campaign is successful, and despite their declining support figures, they are still the party to beat. The People's Party, a centre-right conservative group headed by Felix Frey, are believed to be the biggest threat to the National's majority, as they appeal to the public by promoting capitalism and promising the generation of thousands of jobs. The United Prymont Future Party, another centre-left organisation much like the Nationals, are believed to be a slightly riskier alternative, as they promise to reverse the recent tax increases and lower the cost of living. PNN will provide detailed coverage of the lead-up to election day. In addition to this news, the President has also revealed that the newly formed Prymontian Rus will have their own general election on November 2nd, after months of trouble and turmoil. The USP humanitarian groups have been successful in quelling the disputes of the land, and have sought enough former and new politicians to create a varied political landscape. The National Party-backed Iskander Yegerov, of the National Rus Party, is a firm favourite for voters and fellow politicians alike to win the Premiership.  This news has not been met without trouble in the United States, as voters have gathered on the streets of New Halsham to protest Prymont's involvement in the new country. Many believe that the National Party are using the former Hellenic Rus state to gain further political control over central Argis, and to channel funds into boosting the United States' military capabilities. However, the 'takeover' of the country can be a positive investment, as engineers have already started work on the Canamo Canal in newly purchased southern lands bordering the Mediargic Sea, which will massively improve maritime trade with the area and propel local economies into significant wealth.
President Duval photographed shortly after announcing the snap general election.   Ostport state government shows plans for β3 billion 5-year renovation plan CANASTOTA, OSTPORT - In an annual state government public consultation, the Ostport state government have revealed a staggering three billion Prynd renovation and upgrade plan for the next five years. Ostport's considerable growth since the creation of the United States has been hard to ignore, and Canastota has long been the most populous city in the country. Many companies are now choosing to locate their headquarters in the state's capital, such as massive economic benefactors the Kaldestad Aamot Group, the Northern Bank of Ostport financial giant, and alpine equipment specialists Koren. It is also understood that the completion of the Canamo Canal in late 2019 will bring great trade benefits to Canastota, the docks of which are already receiving β300m for upgrades to handle the added capacity. This monumental amount of money for one state will be going to several good public causes. Public transport will be the recipient of approximately half of this capital, to invest in new transport hubs, rail and bus routes, modern equipment, and new job roles. Hospitals in the state will also receive funding to ease staff restraints and modernise equipment, while money will also go to supporting families who have lost jobs through the demise of the fishing industry as well as reorganising public services such as unemployment schemes, homelessness reduction plans, and charities chosen by the public. The plan is the brainchild of Jasper Revheim, a critical figure in Ostportian politics since the 2017 elections. Revheim represents the National Party, and hopes that this scheme will support his chances of reelection in November.
High speed trains like these, pictured in Canastota's Sparby Station as part of the Canastota-New Halsham Line, will become common with the new funding.   Kaldestad Aamot Group purchases Central Canastota Sports Stadium KAP STADIUM, OSTPORT - The Central Canastota Sports Stadium was constructed in 1995 to bring sports in the United States to a global stage. It is the current home of the Prymontian Yetis, the country's national football team, as well as the Canastota Sharks, one of the top teams in the domestic league. Over the years, the CCSS has also hosted music concerts, rugby matches, and boxing events, showcasing the diversity of the arena. The Prymontian Football Association, the governing body of football in the United States, also calls the stadium it's home.  In 2012 the stadium underwent expensive renovations to bring it up to date with modern standards and equipment, as well as providing a higher seating capacity and providing space within the stadium grounds for public shopping areas to provide an additional source of income. In 2017, the stadium went up for sale, as the National Party sought to generate revenue and eliminate unnecessary expenditure. Today, a new owner has been found in the Kaldestad Aamot Group, one of the largest companies in the US.  The stadium has been renamed to the KAP Stadium, promoting the largest brand within the KAG, and CEO Erik Bruun has revealed plans to create a 'greater sports complex'. These plans include a superdome for domed sports and exhibition events, a velodrome, an aquatics centre, and an indoor karting circuit. The cost of purchasing the stadium and surrounding land is yet to be disclosed, but it is believed that the Group will be spending billions in the coming years to create the world standard in sporting complexes.
A CGI rendition of the planned superdome.   Prymontian Yetis top the standings in the Argic & Northern Alharun Football Association Cup CANASTOTA, OSTPORT - The ANAFA League Cup began on the 10th of October, with ten of the best teams from the two continents playing for glory. The Prymontian Yetis were successful in qualifying for the Cup, and drew in a friendly against Limonaia before the league commenced. In the first game, the Yetis beat @Soreana by 3 goals to 1, placing them atop the standings with the Limonaians. The second round of matches were held on the 20th, and Prymont were victorious once more, beating @Limonaia 2-1 to improve upon their previous draw. This win kept the Yetis at the top of the table, joined only in points by @Variota. Thus far, the Yetis have scored the most goals in the tournament, and have the greatest positive goal difference. The team couldn't have gotten off to a better start, and are receiving great praise from supporters, but pundits are yet to be complacent with their position. In years gone by, the Yetis have shown glimmers of hope, only to be shot down shortly after by poor plays, inadequate players, and failing leadership. Team manager Nojus Fauskanger assembled a mixed squad of promising youths and experienced veterans for the 2018 @Orioni World Cup, and while the team exited that tournament in the group stages, many applauded their performance. Now, with weak links out and new players in, the Yetis are showing stronger than ever, and many are confident that they will go on to the quarter finals in December. Others are adamant that it is only a matter of time before the team return to their old ways of failure and demise, but captain Vincent Borge hopes to silence those critics. "Our team has played brilliantly so far, and we've changed our training methods and squad rotation to ensure that we're always at our best. We've got some amazing players on board this year, and it's now the start of something great for Prymont's national football scene." The Yetis will next play @Seylos on the 24th of October.
Team manager Nojus Fauskanger barks his orders from the sidelines, during the Prymont-Soreana match

    • Transport Ministry, Dartha "...of course, we'll give regular updates to the Senate as requested...thank you Senator Charvanek...and a good day to you too," and he hung up the phone. Miro Tumel had just been promoted to Chief Engineer, the immediate subordinate to the Minister, two weeks earlier after his predecessor was removed from his position due to a major disagreement with a powerful Jaridan senator. The identity of this politician was never divulged but he suspected that it was his newfound senatorial backer, Livana Charvanek. Now wasn't the time to contemplate this and rather to put his skills to work on getting the high-speed railway project off the ground. Up until today, Yhfillain, the more notable face of the Ministry, had been charged almost exclusively on operating the public transport system - the commuter railways of the three major cities, the intercity bus network, and the various riverbus services along the major waterways and along the coast of the Apnex Sea. Now, this body had been ordered to be responsible for the planning and construction of a high-speed line between the capital, Dartha, and the third-largest (yet second-most important) city, Peldred to the southeast in the Chetris Province. This was a completely foreign territory for the Ministry. He knew that the Senate wanted quick results to show the masses that they were addressing their concerns. He adjusted himself in his desk chair and pressed a buzzer on his intercom. "Elvia, can you come in here please?" he asked. She was his secretary, equally attractive and unemotional in her work. "Yes sir," she inquired, getting her pad at the ready to take down his instructions. "I want you to work with Jeran and Ulik in preparing a contract posting for an engineering and design consultant to help us with the high-speed project." She nodded in acknowledgment. "Both of them already have all the details from me as to what is required of our eventual contractor," he said pausing for a moment. "And one other thing," he began, Elvia was attentive, "Senator Chavarnek and I are supposed to meet every week, can you work with her aide and set it up." Elvia began skimming his calendar as he was saying this. "I'll get on it right away. Anything else sir?" she inquired. "Not now," he responded. "That will be all." She nodded once more and left the room. After she was out of the office, he picked up his phone and called Almor. "My friend, how are you...and the children...good, good. I am sure you heard the latest over Tlaru Aihrifv Rheilhhu...you have? Then I don't have to go over the entire story with you...is it possible for you to arrange a meeting between me, the Mayor (Maiori) of Peldred, Cildan; and Chetris Governor (Jahærenen) Lakol? Thank you. Call me on my cellphone the moment you have that three-way conversation confirmed...we'll talk again soon, have a good day..."

    • "...sounding second alarm at Via Zannoni 3381, fire has spread from vehicle to nearby housing..." "...additional units requested at Via Renauld 477 for domestic disturbance, neighbor reports argument regarding footballing..." "Turn that off." "...all available units in area, respond immediately to Embassy of Asgeirria, diplomatic quarter, this is an officer needs help call..." "...10-16, 10-16, respond immediately for support to Via Rocca de Baldi 88, fire unit reports being under attack by hooligans..." "I SAID TURN THAT RADIO OFF." Senior Inspector Prisco Vigliotti bellowed the order at the driver of the police bus, who finally switched off the dispatch radio. Vigliotti did not even bother to mutter a thank you before turning back to his platoon of riot officers. "We are thirty seconds out. Remember: no deadly force. This is the eighth game in ten years that we haven't lost. The president does not want this success undermined by bloodshed." The field officer of the Faramontese Paramilitary Police had barely finished that last statement when the bus suddenly lurched to a stop, nearly throwing the man -- the equivalent of a captain in the army -- to the ground. "I can't get any closer," the driver said, "there's fire trucks in the way." "Amateurs," Vigliotti remarked with contempt, eyeing the firefighting vehicles, before turning back to his men. "Alright, then. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR. DISEMBARK, NOW. MOVE!" The thirty paramilitaries onboard jumped to their feet and quickly exited the vehicle through its three doors, forming up on the pavement outside. They found a scene of utter chaos. The local and national police had been trying to keep order near Terrome Stadium, but clearly, that effort had failed. Injured policemen were sitting everywhere, being helped by firefighters and paramedics. Up ahead, Vigliotti could see that some firefighters and other volunteers were helping to maintain the police's haphazard riot line. The acrid smell of smoke and the sound of sirens filled the air, but above all else, it was the noise of the crowd -- the screaming, the breaking glass, the brawling -- that stood out.  "Well," Vigliotti said to no one in particular, staring past the police line at mob of several thousand Faramontese football fans violently celebrating their team's narrow escape of defeat, "it would appear we have our work cut out for us."
